its called love.. love for their music, love for him, love for whats to become.. it doesnt change over the many years they've been together if you keep watching them
Oh Mandolin Orange is on my list of young people echoing our roots, Ruth Moody and Wailing Jenny’s, Gillian Welch, Trampled By Turtles, Dead South, the list is long and great, I really thought for a few years we had lost a generation, instead the reward has been so rich.
Being seriously hooked on these two for some years, it was a real pleasure this summer to see them (all 5) live, and say hi to Emily- one charming lady. Totally confirmed my suspicions. As expected, they made a lot of new friends/fans. IMO they give hope.
You are totally right. To find good music now, you need to be a searcher. Not on mainstream radio, not on TV, BUT it is out there. There are thousands of fantastic undiscovered and unheard musicians and songwriters. It's almost like we have reverted to the old days of passing down songs and stories from one village to another. Just now, it is on the internet, on TH-cam, or at little local radio stations. Thank God there are a few left.
MANDOLIN ORANGE is bloody brilliant - duo, quintet, whatever! I discovered this band by chance about 2 months ago. I'm South African - I live in Durban, on the east coast - and nobody to whom I have spoken knows of them. I've tried 1 major chain record store - blank fucking looks from a young dude who probably thinks that rap ain't crap!

The way she keeps so carefully listening to him while doing her fiddle parts and the supporting vocal always amazes me.

I love these two. Their chemistry, their style, and I love more and more of their music.

I'm late to the party. I've seen hundreds of their videos on YT, but this remains one of my favorite songs and performances.
To think this was just a year into their duo, and they're THIS GOOD ALREADY?!!
As a Scot I love how this grass roots music connects back with the `irish/Scots that went to America that were pioneers across the Appalician.
it's your legacy manifest through time and space.
Ok Olaf Hairyfoot, and Olga Bungeye.., spare us PLS.
This is the brightest young duo I’ve seen in a long, long time. Their music and arrangements are impeccably tasteful.
I can't get enough of them. Remarkable talents!
This is likely the greatest example of love any of us will ever see.
Great to see you so young, I hope this song is still an active part of your repertoire , it's lovely. Thanks, as always much warmth and respect
This song stopped a crying baby in his tracks. He froze and stood watching for the duration, mesmerized.
+Sam D he thought angels were singing but something was off ?
Music soothes the savage breast. (William Congreve)

Absolutely the best duet, Folk Sound To Come Along in years! I wish for them nothing but success!!
A delightful combination - great track.
Just goes to show, good music is still out there. You just have to look a little harder to find it.
"Look harder"? I think not, there is so much available, if you know whereabouts to look, and where to avoid.

Two of the best, to watch, to look at, and to listen to.
They look so young. And wise and it just got more wonderful.
Going to see them in Frederick Md. Nov 24th. Isn't it here yet ?
I love the power she brings with her fiddle to his voice in songs :D
Shed love the power of my fiddle,,,🤐😉😁😋
@@KaptainKlunk1 I'm back to re-listen to this in 2021. And you're so right, Emily's fiddle playing is magic.

LIFE ON A STRING
If all this is easy and all that we need
we’ve fallen behind, we’ve fallen behind
you can dig all you like and make a big pile
and sing all the while, and sing all the while
But you’re just a boy who strummed the right chord
and I’m just a boy who gave an ear
write, it’s alright, I’m shedding my skin instead of these tears
Swimming alone and torn in between
life in a dream or life on a string
living atop our own little hills
perched for the kill, we’re perched for the kill
and you’re just a boy who strummed the right chord
and I’m just a boy who gave an ear
write, it’s alright, I’m shedding my skin instead of these tears
If love was the light first seen at our birth
and then all the earth, and then all the earth
how can it fall so far behind
try to remind me, and I’ll try to remind
But you’re just a boy who strummed the right chord
and I’m just a boy who gave an ear
write, it’s alright, write, it’s alright, write
Thank you!
would that be "right" instead of "write"?
unclebobunclebob intended, i’d say.

i love the girl....
Ah God...at 3:46, she adores him.
...talking about being on the same page!
I feel very sorry for 29 people (who gave this! a thumbs down).
So glad a video like this is still enjoyed!
They look so young here
Jeez, 3:45 What is that? She's moving her lips but, well, I don't know what's going on there. Great harmony? I guess.
Umph. Good.
well, thanks for that -
Holy shit this makes me want to learn to play violin
In this case, you'd be the boss!
So, five years later, did you give the violin a try?
