Your music has accompanied me through deep and expansive loss - my wife died. Shortly after her passing I found your music and felt that Mary was gifting you to me and thank you for that. Here I am 6 years later and still follow you and find your melodies and lyrics really speak to my spirit. Living now in Montana and there is something special about the way your music almost makes this landscape and the wildness that is western Montana, come alive in a new way. Realize that if these lovely folks sang "WILDFIRE" 160 years ago to a Southern audience, it's likely they would have been arrested, jailed or just hung. There's a great truth in these songs from Andrew and Emily, which is why I come back here again and again to hear and remind me. Thanks for putting this out there.
I suppose you could glean that from the song. There is a bigger message than that to enjoy. Let’s dwell on your ideology though… Isn’t it weird how only the southern USA was enslaving people? All across the world, everybody was so pure, caring and loving. Those folks down south were ALL so hateful and the ONLY recipients of those folks that the tribes caught and sold from Africa (primarily). And what did it do for them? Nothing! Right? It wasn’t good for the following generations of the enslaved. It wasn’t good for the cultivation of the nation. Man… if only they could have learned from the altruistic Northerners and every other kind, pure soul around the world. Thanks for taking us down the path of recognizing the victim/perpetrator message overtones. We needed it. 💔💛💙💜💔

"It should have been different, it could have been easy." Best summary of the tragedy of history I have ever heard. Don't think it will ever be bettered. Really intelligent song. Touches the heart. Puts words to how I feel about the history I have seen with my own eyes.
Colin kelley, I'm right there with you. That song feels spot on in this day and age. This should be easier. But the true demise is hatred passed down through the years... and pride has a way of holdin' too firm. Boy doesn't it.
I'd heard "Wildfire" a few times, including at a live show in L.A. this year and it moved me deeply, and that was before I read the words and really got it. Once of the best songs about racism ever. These folks are extraordinary.
Michael the song isn’t just about racism. Only a small portion of the south owned slaves. Look at Lincoln. He wanted to just deport all blacks. The north was just as racist towards blacks. The real issue was the south was paying 75% of federal taxes. The civil war was really about state’s rights vs a massive federal government. Now we have the largest federal government in history with the most amount of debt ever in worlds history more than any country or empire to exist. We have like 200 trillion in unfunded liabilities like Medicare and social security. And by 2035 some old people aren’t going to be getting checks because the government causing inflation is destroying social securities assets which is only debt. Wildfire is a good song, but the civil war wasn’t about slavery at first. Lincoln only freed the slaves to ensure he won the war. Be interesting to see if the US has massive inflation or we default.
@@koltoncrane3099 I think you are right about what the Civil War was really about when it started, but Ulysis S Grant retired for awhile and was called back into the military during the Civil War. In the inbetween he inherited or was given a farm by family somewhere in the midwest and with the farm came a bunch of slaves. He immediately set them free, helped them with their paperwork and helped them get established, no strings attached. He paid some of their expenses out of pocket for awhile. His family disowned him and took the farm back. During the war, when his forces captured an area, with slaves, he invited them to lunch, he made sure their paperwork was correct, made sure they became freed Americans, and then gave them jobs in the military helping with logistics and with adjusting to being free. He told them, if anyone gave them any trouble, to let him know personally, and he meant it. He did it because it was the right thing to do, but the the black community was and is tight and the black vote pretty much everywhere pushed him over the top to win the Presidential election. Everyone, including he himself was surprised. At that time the black community was pretty much 100% Republican. The Southern Democrats invented the Jim Crow chain gangs. Hillary's mentor, Senator Byrd was a KKK grand poopah until the day he died. Hillary herself is a racist.
Live in Scotland now, but this really makes me miss home. We moved a lot when I was a kid: West Virginia, Florida, Nevada, etc.. This just feels like the best side of home. Watching the pain in the US right now is a killer, and ``Wildfire'' just about ended me. I wish my brother could hear it and understand, but, that's just not happening. Thank you for this beautiful thing.

Andrew, you hold such power in that container of yours, the focus and intention of your music, poetry and droll humor comes out like a well-placed arrow, straight to the heart. Emily, I met you only yesterday (via your videos), and I observe the mature wife/musical partner/mother emerging from the sweet child who first appeared on the scene years ago. Your vocals, accompaniments, harmonies and movements in performance are a beautiful complement to that pillar of a guy standing next to you. Mandolin Orange is a blessing. Hold your partnership careful, sacred, dear ones.

You're both awesome.
From an Irishman, fantastic, the mandolin playing is very cool, it all sounds so good together : )
Seans know good music
Live in Scotland now, but this really makes me miss home. We moved a lot when I was a kid: West Virginia, Florida, Nevada, etc.. This just feels like the best side of home. Watching the pain in the US right now is a killer, and ``Wildfire'' just about ended me. I wish my brother could hear it and understand, but, that's just not happening. Thank you for this beautiful thing.
When I need something to help me relax completely, I always come here to hear their wonderful music! It takes away the worries of the day.
couldn't agree more..and get to see them this Sunday! Babeville in buffalo..great venue for a great band

That was the pastiest crowd I've ever seen.
Perhaps 100 people in the audience, if that many, blessed to have a front row seat to the best modern folk group In the world. When I listen, I feel the proverbial last best hope quivering in my soul.
I used to oun that fiddle. Made by Evan Smith in Idaho Falls Idaho. He is a great maker I still own 4 of his fiddles. Boy she plays it well.

What incredible music is coming out of North Carolina at the moment! Love these two! Wish I could see them live one day. Please come to South Africa.
I love this comment because it’s just some person from a south something human place loving something wonderful from a north something human place.
I love Mandolin Orange and love that they live here in North Carolina. Also very pleased that our governor and state had them play at the Executive Mansion.
the song at 15:00. omg. what a stunning display of being connected. It's not just reading the syncopation. It's breathing it. There may be many equals out there, but none any better.
This the greatest love song in history..
Absolutely fantastic...like the sweetest honey you can find.
my ears told me that IM IN LOVE!
So love seeing you two on one mike, your body language tells a story, in itself beautifully expressive of your precious bond.
Well spoken
These two remind me of the home I hope someday I have. Greetings from Argentina.
Away from home and feeling down. This is exactly what I need to keep going.
I would love to be back home in Raleigh, and get to go to a concert on the executive mansions' grounds, WOW!!!, I don't think they did that when I grew up in Raleigh, 50+ yrs ago...
Smooth as silk. And what a beautiful venue.
Just wonderful. Natural. Uncomplicated. Relaxing but still exciting. Draws me in and puts a smile on my face :)
The amazing thing is 100% of the comments are positive and inspirational full of hope and recall. Where else on the net would that occur...
I can't believe how well in-focus that microphone was in the closeup. Nailed it. In all seriousness, what a fabulous performance. Great work as always!
Any idea what mic it is?
These tunes are so so sweet. 😘😘😘
Is it the love of the two in their gaze...or the strings that pull us all towards....or the harmony closest to heaven as we have heard..or just the happiness that they share.
This is - Beyond good. Beyond heavenly. Beyond love.
And if Wildfire doesn't change minds, I guess nothing will....
I realy like these two alot ,I would love to do what they do .I need friends like this. there is a feeling I get from there music that calms me.
