After FOUR YEARS, the feral queen cat that was here when I moved here FINALLY is letting me pet her! She really likes pets now... anything is possible with perseverance and love ♥
Same thing here. Feral cat kept coming around. Looked skinny. Finally decided to feed him (outside on back porch). After several weeks, let me pet him. Figured, oh crap, guess he's gonna keep coming around. In between all of that, he attacked my legs everytime I walked out the back door. Then, all of a sudden one afternoon, he jumped up on ottoman. Let me pet him some more (gently). Then he bit my hand so bad (pain, swelling). Had to go to E.R. Gave me 5 shots plus RABIES shot. Had to get Rabie shots once a month for 4-5 months. Called animal control for a trap cage. Got him in it. Shelter was closed that day. Didn't know what to do. Took him to Planned Pethood. Got all his shots & neutered him. Brought him home. Was going to take him to a shelter the next day. Then my "wuss" of husband 😂😂😂, said oh let's give him a chance. That was 5 yrs ago. Now he lets me pet & brush him & kiss top of his head. Can't bring him in house. Have 4 indoor cats & he is a fighter, big time!! Bring him in the heated garage every night, with his cat bed. He never leaves the property. Follows me everywhere. He is presently sitting on my lap outside. Glad I gave him a second chance.....BUT, I STILL DON'T TRUST HIM. 😨😨😂😂 Sorry for the long text. 💛
@@maryannvitelli5818 I admire your perseverance. You are giving him his best life. Some ferals are never going to be an inside cat, and thats OK. I know bc I have a feral just like him. He knows he can come to me for a warm and safe place to call home and still have his freedom. He trusts me 🐾😽💙
@@maryannvitelli5818 Thank you for caring for him. I've taken care of ferals for years, trapped and spayed or neutered them, then fed them, provided heated beds and cat houses in winter and heated water and food dishes -- even got to where one of them let me put flea medicine on her back between her shoulder blades while I petted her in the summer so she wasn't flea-ridden. Thank you for being an awesome feral cat mama.
@@womanofacertainage5892 Oh yeah. He's my boy now. Sit outside all of the time (retired now, friggin love it 😂😂😂), reading, messing on phone/internet, etc... Not one for Facebook, Instagram at all. And not one for sitting inside all day watching TV either. Go inside to do housework, laundry, cook, sleep, spend time with my indoor babes as well. My husband never liked cats. He does now. 😁 Blax is my outdoor lap buddy. Love him. Amazing transformation. Cats are sweet, beautiful, dogs too, but cats don't get a break outdoors at all. Bless you for what you do to help them, as well. 💛
I love that you use the "parent" word instead of "owner". I hate saying that I own my cat. She is my mate, she is a lovely individual being and a part of our small family gang :)
It took me 2 months to get my cat to trust me. She has started to follow me around and wants many many pets. But last week I sneezed a little too loud and now she won’t get out from under the bed lmao I have unintentionally traumatized my kitty
Yep...loud unexpected noises will scare any cat. You didn't traumatize your cat. Just remember this video and don't start catering your cat's needs while under the bed. Be patient and do all the things this video talks about 😽💕
I thought my cat didn't love me, but after watching yours videos I'm understanding that she does loves me! Now I can understand her! I'm so happy that I can understand her! Thank you!
I’d go with a ”Play with your CAT” like straight away 😊Our other cat became a wall flower after we moved and getting him out of closet took a dozen of different tunnels, feathertoys etc. UNTIL I finally got the toy he really enjoys playing and now he is always there, ready to play, eat and even! be touched. He started flourishing!
I have two cats from the same litter.. rescued them from side of the road but one is EXTREMELY social and the other is the polar opposite. Sometimes she’ll let me pet her if she’s in a good mood but she’s like terrified the entire time. It’s interesting how they live in the same environment but are so different.
I have 4 from the same litter, I was there when they were born, 2 are shy, the other 2 loves attention, one of which is even shyer then the other shy one, I can never get her to not run from me, even if I get 6 feet away from her, it's too much
My girl used to be like Kadu. I started giving her special attention, and now she's definitely better. I still put down her food dish before her brother's.
You are AWSOME! She hid for the first eight days. I was doing exactly the wrong thing. Feed her and pet her there to make her comfortable. Did what you said, blocked off all the hiding places...OMG totally different CAT! WE Love You!!!!!
A loop, of a cat purring, will make them feel extra safe. That’s how I tamed my feral, who didn’t wanna leave her carrier, when my parents first gave her to me. It really helped. She even loves to sleep on my bed, with me, now, and is pretty much my emotional support animal. She’s always there for me 🥰🥰🥰 Sit on the floor, and give off good vibes, while the loop is playing, too. That’ll help it go even more smoothly ❤️ I can even make my feral feel safe, around guests, to the point where she comes out of hiding, and wants to get petted by them 🥰 Her name is Jasper, by the way. I named her after my favorite character, from the show, Steven Universe
Thankfully, the only time my cat Abby tries to avoid me is when she thinks I'm going to either give her medicine (twice daily) or clean her ears (twice a week). She doesn't like either, so I can't blame her for acting that way. But I give her treats afterward as a reward, and she quickly forgives me. Other than that, she is very friendly and loving. A sweetie! 🥰😺
@@blackmagicwoman8280 It isn't hard. They have ear wax just like us, and they are a bit darker. So you use a q tip to clean it only in the areas you can see. Usually it build up right after the entrance, a bit below, were "you can't see it" at first, but with a bit of an angle you can see it, and this place is really shallow, so no worries If this explanation isn't enough, do tell me and I'll make a tiktok teaching how to do it :3
Cats are fun to work with and get them to adjust their feelings to you. It takes time and persistence and your willininess to work with them. I've 18 cats and always trying new things with them. They think it's great, since it's a creative way to interact with them. I've picked up tips from Jackson along the way, and see a lot of what he says works.
@@bereal6590 I don't know how it happened but it did. I just know there are so many on the street, and they choose who they want to be with. I know there will be no more kittens unless we rescue one. I have all my cats done, so no kitten making will happen. They are all inside cats, but have a few entertainment windows, available for them.
My cat, Rose, isn’t scared and is very sweet but she also just likes to be alone most of the time. She doesn’t really hide under the couch or bed but will go somewhere else if someone tries to pet her most of them. I kinda figure She just likes to spend time by herself cause occasionally when she wants to play or wants attention she initiates it. Some cats just like their alone time and that’s okay.
i’m almost 2 months into owning my cats. i adopted a bonded pair, both being 4 years old. my skittish girl is finally letting me pet her in her safe space. she is even coming out to be pet occasionally. i still have a long way to go with her, but she’s doing great. hopefully after resolving her dental issues and ear infection, she will feel better too and that will also show in her confidence.
yeah, i have a mama and son. mama is a calico, runs my house, will let almost anybody who is chill/has cat manners pet her, and generally *i* get pets when my chronic medical stuff is flaring up. her kiddo, on the other hand, is basically a one-person cat and it took several months to build that bond (totally worth it, he's the cuddliest bb i've ever had, he just is not a big fan of people he doesn't know in his space. i used some of jackson's tips to help get him where he was at least cool with me.)
We just adopted a one year old kitty cat last week. She hides under our bed and only comes out to eat at night when we’re in bed. She jumped up into bed with us and was loving us talk to her and petting her. She even followed my husband to the bathroom. All this is at night when it’s dark. Then she was awakening us to eat several times at night. So I started her on a three times a day feeding schedule like our meal times . I brought the food to her to get that started. But now that she only woke us up once last night I see that’s working so trying to get her to come out to eat. I’ve never had a fearful cat before. My husband and I love our kitty cat! We just want to see her progress in oonfidence.
Took my cat a week to stop hiding under the bed when I first adopted him. I adopted him at 6 months old he was the most shy of his litter. I worried that no one would give him a chance. Turned out he’s just shy once he got to know me and my family he’s the most affectionate cat I’ve ever had. He’s still shy and skittish about loud noises but he’s my best bud now. he’s comfortable around me and the family he knows. He’s my best bud.
My moms cat avoids me at all cost. I dont persue her, but if I can get her to sniff my hand, Im happy. Weve settled on that. We think shes traumatized. When we got her, my mom got her, and I got a kitten too, and we had to quarantine them together. I worked long days, so my mom was in charge of caring for them (very very sick, like the Vet didnt think theyd make it). We kept a log of perkiness, food, water, poop/pee, just in case. I checked and he had been just fine, but I wanted to see them before bed. I found him mid-seizure. I moved him to a different room (didnt want ot traumatize my moms kitten with witnessing a death), but shortly after he passed away. Somehow I knew. Shes avoided me ever since. We think its kind of a.. i took her brother away.. forever. Im just happy now if she sniffs my hand when I offer it. Petting her is not allowed. She doesnt like me. I can pick her up if I absolutely need to (like a vet visit or emergency), but she will run from me for weeks if I do. Funny thing is Ive actually saved her life. I heard her scream, and I ran out to the living room to find her tangled up in the blinds cords, dangling 8 feet off the ground. Shed climbed up a cat tree, pulled the cords down (we tie them up but shes known to be a little sneaky and crafty) and tried to get down off the tree, but got tangled when she went to jump down. Having jumped down, now she was mid-air, tangled. I grabbed her, held her up as high as I could to relieve the pressure, and my mom ran over and just started cutting strings. She wasnt hurt at all, extremely lucky, but.. shes still scared of me. No good deed!
The problem also may be that Kadu is sensitive about the other cats in her home with whom he may not be familiar, and so he is assuming a submissive position in order to not stand out and possibly be targeted by the others. I have a girl cat in my home and around her litter mate brother she's comfortable but whenever she's out in the main areas where our other cats are she's always vigilant and cautious and winds up hiding up in a cat tree most of the time to herself. If I intentionally isolate her in a room with just myself or with her brother, she suddenly comes to life and is very active, bright, playful, vocal, affectionate, etc., but around the others she becomes subdued and fearful. Maybe try isolating Kadu in a room away from the main cat living area and see if by spending quality alone time together you can get him to comfortably open up.
You're a genius! Our new cat was hiding under the couch and I took your advice and got her some cat toys and played with her under the couch for 15 mins. I went to do some work in the other room, and I hear her coming out confidently, exploring around. Now, she's sitting contently on the bed. That cat mojo is everything isn't it! Thank you so much, Jackson, for putting this information out there! Or else I wouldn't know what to do. 😻😻 Medium height cat condo is on it's way!
I’m so glad I ran into your channel. I started fostering kittens and I’m learning from each one. My current kitten, Pumpkin is super shy and just wanted to hide. I have another kitten and small dog that loves him. He’s fine with my other pets, but was hiding all day when I’m home. I would force him out of hiding to pet him and he’ll have the LOUDEST PURR. He’s fine once I have him so I was letting him have his “safe place,” not knowing that isn’t helping him. Once I sealed all hiding places, he was on the sofa, under the table, and cuddling more with the other cat. He’s still terrified when I get close and he’ll run. It’s been 3.5 weeks. He finally is letting me pet him when he’s on the sofa. I think I can touch him when he’s half awake and likes it. Your videos are fun and educational. Love what you’re doing. Thank you.
Six years and Kadu is avoiding his hooman? Indeed, so sad to hear that. Great advice from JG as always! 👍👍 My lil princess Maxie isn't a lap cat but she is always next to me. 🐱Right now, she's napping on my sweater while watching the video. 😆😀
This video was SO HELPFUL!!! We rescued five semi feral kittens. We’re on week two. Three hide, I have two carriers covered where they usually hide on the side of it under cover. The other two are under the futon but it’s opened and I can play with them a little. I was just thinking I may need to remove those covers to discourage this hiding. They’re four to five months old. I get the slow blink from all five, but I CANNOT pick them up unless they’re under the cover and I can then scoop them up while they’re wrapped. They don’t like it at first but then I can feel them relax as I pet them. I sit with them when I feed them. Three will come out to eat and they’re touching distance but I still CANNOT pet them while they’re eating. It’s a work in progress for sure but this video gave me hope! I probably do over compensate like you mentioned in the video. If you have any suggestions please let me know.
This channel has been a great help. We have been fostering my brother-in-law's cat Bruce, a cute long-haired tuxedo since the beginning of November because he couldn't have the cat at his new apartment yet. Previously he lived with family and kept Bruce shut in his bedroom 24/7 for fear that someone would accidentally let the cat out. Bruce is very shy and fearful, and (I don't think) very socialized, but I think we've done a lot to rehabilitate him. We have dogs so haven't really been able to let him come and go as he pleases, unfortunately. For the first few weeks he would only squish himself underneath the desk and hide, but has been a lot happier since I got him a cat cave, and we put up barriers in front of our bedroom door and let him roam around our apartment at night, because he would very vocally let us know in the morning that he didn't want to be cooped up anymore. My only regret about his time here is that he just stays inside his cat cave all day and never really got comfortable enough with me that he'd be super friendly. When I was a kid I had a short-haired tuxedo that I absolutely loved, so I think Bruce reminded me of him.
@@petraginzlova7229 I found my newest kitten behind a dumpster. Her owners was hoping that the truck would end her. My German Shepherd found her, and brought her to me. She was a bed hider until she got licked from head to tail by my dogs. Now she's a happy kitten. Sleeps on them
Outstanding advice. One of my cats has major anxiety. I brush her and give her special play time. She goes outside for 3 minutes, only if I leave the door open. She had no Mother and had been bottle feed. My other cat is afraid of nothing & very social.
I believe anyone that gives Jackson a thumbs down is either jealous or hates cats. His videos are very informative and I have learned to be a better cat mom because of them. Thank you Jackson Galaxy!!😘
Perfect advice. She's a great cat owner. By this time next year, Kadu and his sister will seem like different cats, and enjoy their lives more. So will Tallyta. Awesome!
I have a 15 yr old cat who has a 5 foot rule. No one can be closer to him or he runs away. He doesn't hide away, but just doesn't want to be too close. The only exception is at night when he will sleep with us on the bed with the other cats as long as we aren't moving. I think his life is pretty good in spite of that. He has 3 cat buddies who all cuddle and groom each other. When he needs his claws trimmed or we need to take him for a vet check up, we have to close the door of a room he is in to catch him. Don't think he was feral, but was a rescue adoption that wasn't socialized properly. I blame myself some for not working with him when we adopted him. He is submissive and doesn't bite or scratch when we do catch him. Sometimes there isn't much you can do but I worry as he gets older. He still has some endearing qualities even though he acts this way. PS Just noticed the bicolor cat on Jackson's merch looks a lot like one of mine...including the left ear tip! He is my rescued stray kitty...spicy feral turned sweet.
Love your shirt, Jackson! The reason I now have 13 furbabies, hehehe... Your videos helped me a lot in better understanding my cats' individual personality, and most importantly, their health and well-being. Thank you so much! ❤️
I just adopted a very beautiful boy bengal who was caged and bred his whole life. He’s very anti social at the moment but thank god I found this TH-cam channel.
Block the under bed and upper luggage storage. Remove the top tier of the cat tree. And put an open cube on top the table so he can see you at your level but still feel protective, he will venture out eventually.
Just adopted a cat here. She panicks at the sight of daylight and hides under our bed all day. By night she’s perfectly normal eating and drinking while being ready to play with us. Hopefully in due time she’ll be comfortable enough to hang out with us during the day
I adopted a rescue yesterday who had been in a foster home. I left her alone but gently encouraged her. She slept with me last night and now I can't find her. She's somewhere under furniture. All closets are closed. 4 of my rooms are shut off to her. I am currently searching under and behind everywhere with no luck so far. The outside access has been closed so I know she didn't get out.
Three weeks ago, I adopted 2 cats (1year old). They used to live with 38 other cats in the woods with a lady living there and feeding them. So they were not socialized. They did socialize with the foster mom, that made me hopeful. One week in they found a way to hide under/behind my kitchen. I have no way of reaching them, even to know if they are still alive or dead.. They stay there the whole day and only come out at night to eat and roam around. I can see that they eat, use the litterbox and leave hairs on my couch. Thank you for making this video. I am going to stop the night time feeding. If they want to eat they will have to come out.
Mr. Jackson, you're an awesome guy! You engaged me to pick up a 6 year old shelter cat. He is a bit distanced but he is warming up. Thanks for all your advice!
The slow blink shouldn't last super long more like *I* love (blink) *you*. Im fostering a feral at and I've realized when my eyes are closed for too long he thinks I'm taking a mini nap which is something cats do all the time. Another way to calm them down would be to yawn when playing so the know you're not interested in hunting them
You don’t have to close them all the way- just a slight almost blink that’s slow, then slowly back open into a very soft look. You don’t need to be staring right into their eyes either. My kitty loves it when I look right next to her and do it, we do it a couple times and then she rolls over and falls asleep lol
I get a nice lil cheek rub w my girl. Love your vids! My cat is 14 suffering arthritis. We are working on it w supplements naturally. She's hurting ironically I'm too. I'm 60 .....oesoarthritic. She's courageously being a trooper taking her meds .But the weather is damp ( humid) she's depressed / from pain. I believe in my cat,Pumpkin.Shes had a clean bill from vet 2 months ago fr vet but for this issue,he offered supplements first to attempt. Now I'm taking us to bed.Goodnite to all cats kittens & cat parents
Don’t give up the cat just try your best to show that cat that you made it no harm in that you love it with all your heart if it scared give it treats give it love give it playtime show it that you’re only mean to love it with all your heart your little children they just need love
If I sit on my bed one of my cats will come lay next to me play and do all the cat things but the moment I stand up to go do something she runs and hides. I feel bad that she's that scared. It's weird mostly because when I do get up it has nothing to do with her but she's convinced herself I'm going to get her. Cats are so vein 😁 they think everything is always about them. Even when no one is even thinking about them.
I recently adopted two stray colony cats (they look like brothers from different litters), and at first I was going to let them hide under the couch forever. I spent a bit of time going through your videos, and have now set up a basecamp in a bedroom, blocked off access under the bed (and under all furniture in the living room which they don't yet have access to). I set up a little cat cave/cocoon in the room, too. I feel so mean, taking away their hiding places. My only consolation is that they don't put their ears back at me, and they sniff at whatever treats I approach them with. They still stare at me (because I'm new and strange, I guess?), and don't want to be touched. I think with a little patience, we'll get there. :) Thank you.
Tallyta is not what I would consider a stereotypical "cat-lady." :) This is an awesome channel and it's cool to see that you have an international audience!
Tallyta - when you call Kadu you're making a noise - that to me - sounds like a hiss. I 'd just call him by name. When trying to play, I'd get on the floor (as close as you can get without him running from you) and try dragging a toy in front of him very slow. I think fast play movements can scare a cat. Or if he's up high in his box, I'd try running a toy (like a feather on the end of a stick) slowly along the edge of the box. You'll know it's working when his eyes follow the toy instead of you. It's a great feeling when you can get a cat from being scared to curious. Good luck!
I've actually heard a lot of people make that noise when calling a cat. I'm not entirely sure what the rationale is, but it does seem to work for piquing the curiosity of at least some cats. Personally, I don't make that noise. If I ever make a noise like that, it's more like a kissy noise. Sometimes even just rubbing my fingers together successfully gets my cat's attention, if it's quiet enough for him to hear (this tends to work better for leading him to my hand). But usually I just talk to him, and try to use words that end in the "long e" vowel sound, which animals seem more responsive to. I don't know if that noise she made registers in her cat's brain as a hiss, but it is entirely plausible that some sounds might work better for certain cats. They're all a bit unique. I do agree about the toys though. My cat loves feather toys, but if the toy is too big, he acts afraid of it, even if I move it slowly. I think "giant flying thing with feathers" makes him think hawk, which I know he is afraid of.
@@heatherbryant4197 Isn't that interesting about the lhe long e sound ? must be why just calling kitty works. Re the hiss sound, I've seen dogs respond to it, but I've only seen it scare cats.
@@AnnPhilipp It is! Often I end up saying "kiki" -- short for "kitty," but twice the "ee" sound. And lots of high-pitched baby talk, of course. I find a way to make everything sound like that; I call myself "mommy," dry cat food is "crunchies," birds are "flappy chirpies,"and water is "kiki wawa from Waikiki" (silly & cheesy, I know). Now that I think about it, I think the "psspsspss" sound is supposed to sound like a mouse or rodent of some kind, and get the cat curious instinctively, much like a soft clicking or kissy noise. Problem is it doesn't actually sound that much like a mouse a lot of the time. I find that scratching the corner of a paper bag with my thumb nail sounds a lot more like a mouse chewing on something, and usually gets the cat to become fixated on what's in the paper bag. But if you're trying to get their attention that way, just be prepared for an ambush 😆
Wow, that sounds like my cat, but I think Talita sounds like me even more. I've had Catnip for about two months now, she's a very skittish adult little void. I knew it'd be a bit of a challenge to get her to trust me since she didn't let anyone approach her at my local shelter. I did have some progress with her up until now, I can sometimes get her to play a bit with a rod or laser toy (which do not require me to be close to her) and sometimes she does slow blink at me when I do that to her, and sometimes she keeps looking at me as if she is curious, she did jump on my bed once when I was lying there, but I still think she's not comfortable enough with my presence. But it seems I have been doing many things wrong as well, I've even put her cat bet, food and water bowl inside my wardrobe for her to feel safe and she hides for most of the day. I did think I might need to change these accommodations, but didn't feel confident in doing it. Now, seeing this video I feel betteer about it and will start today by taking her food bowl out of the wardrobe.
I have noticed that petting a cat upwards right behind the ears, around the neck area, like a mom cat would lick her kitten, seems to help them calm down when they are stressed. I have one cat that is terrified of fireworks, and they have been setting them off for a week now in my neighborhood.
I have had my kitten since she was 4 weeks and she a anti social cat as well. It's almost been a year and almost every day I do the cat blink but I can't even get her to look at me , she never gave me the cat I love you and I don't know what to do. The closest I ever got was almost a half one eye wink. She she looks at anything but me.
does she have another cat as a companion? 4 weeks is way too young to be separated from mom & siblings and she probably is very traumatized if she is all alone since then. Does she interact with you e.g. through play? Can you touch her?
I’ve had my cat for a year now, and she hides under the bed all day and then at night she’s a social queen. I realize that anytime during the day she does not want to be bothered but at night she acts normal.
Wish you'd been around 25 years ago when I was puzzling over my big, dumb, shy, gentle Hoss Catwright. Born in my house, lived like a prince, acted like I whipped him every day. He would run away from me every time I approached, same with any other human. He sure ate the food I bought, though. But even when I had to track him down and stuff him into the cat carrier to go to the vet, he never once scratched or bit even when he was struggling to get away. Completely normal acting around the other cats. 16 pounds, all muscle, never got aggressive to me once. What an enigma.
I always have my notifications on, but this video I didn’t see until I went on the channel. So happy I saw it when I did! It’s 3 days old now this video but still new to me😁
Jackson, I have a suggestion for a video subject (unless you've already covered it and please point meet to it). In the past I tried to offer some variety to my cats for their meals. I bought five different flavours of two or three different brands of the same type, for example Merrick's canned pate in chicken, turkey, etc., and a couple of Wellness canned pates (I know canned is preferred over dry). And I offered this variety a different tin each day without issue. But any time I've ever seen a reference to changing a cat's diet, it has alway said to do so *slowly* with the eventual result of removing the previous food. So my question is a) don't cats get bored with the same food every day? I mean, historically would they eat a bird one day and maybe a mouse the next day? And b) why this constant emphasis on changing slowly and eliminating the other food. On a slightly related topic, when my last cat was diagnosed with early CKD he was given a Rx diet (Hill's KD, that smelled like faeces, btw) which I'm sure was responsible for sending him into diabetes nine months later because the diabetic Rx diet was exactly what he supposedly had to avoid on a kidney disease diet. I'll spare you the sad details, but long story short, isn't it better to vary their diet...for their pleasure *and* health?
Watching this video now. I have a scared kitty who has been here with me for about a month now. She was found in an abandoned apartment by my granddaughter. My kitty, Onna, lived with them for about two years and was a complete cuddle bug. Really loving, social cat with my daughter and granddaughters. Onna was even in an environment with multiple animals and had no issues. She is the only animal here. She hides from me all the time if I am awake. She is not vocal, or aggressive, or destructive. She is afraid. It is very possible that I resemble someone who was unkind to her. And that breaks my heart. It is impossible for me to block off all hiding spots in our home. Just not possible. I have invested in two cat trees, I have done the two litter boxes in separate locations, I have continued to leave dry food out for her to nibble on at her leisure, I made the switch to wet food at dinner time, I sing a silly little made up song at dinner time to signal that it is time for good food and treats, I leave out some of her favorite treats in different locations every night to encourage her to explore her new home, I have bought toys to try to initiate play, I talk to her constantly throughout the day even when I have no clue where she is hiding, I leave out an article of clothing that has my scent on it and leave a few treats on it for her, I do everything that I can think of or learn about to help her realize that she is completely safe here. Right now, her life is fear. Living in a state of constant fear is not a life. It's just existence. I feel so bad for her. Part of me thinks that maybe I am just not her human and we may never bond. I just want to do what is best for her. And I feel like I am failing.
@@phantasticdrago230 she has adjusted very well. She loved being in my lap. And she follows me everywhere I go. She is a very well behaved kitty. Thank you for asking.
Recognize early tendency and monitor food. My Muggles has this tendency which suprises me when young never thought she would become plump. No more. Has a young kitten to have active play. 🐭
My wife rescued a stray young cat (almost passed the point of kitten, maybe a 3 months old). Was a pretty long drive in the cat carrier. She immediately hid under the bed. I was out of town, and my wife ended up coincidentally getting pretty sick the day she brought it home, and had a loud cough. The cat (Tux) hid under the bed for 5 days before I got home. When I got home, I sat on the floor next to the bed for long periods of time talking sweet, and set designated morning and evening feeding times where I put the food on a plate right in front of me. Day 2 of me being there Tux started meowing back at me talking sweet. That evening Tux came out from under the bed to eat. Day 3 Tux started to watch me swing around a toy I had bought. Evening of day three I don’t know what happened but something clicked and Tux started nuzzling me like crazy, purring super loud, and bumping my forehead with his forehead. Was literally a super slow progression and then a light switch. I love this cat.
Love, love, love your channel!! ❤️❤️ I had a couple of cats when I was very young (4-7 years old, then none until I was 18, so since then I’ve had at least one cat for thirty years, usually 3. 🙂 They’ve all been different and I’ve loved every single one. I would love to tell you stories about them, but it would be a book. I also had two large dogs for ten years and they all got along great. As much as siblings can. Thank you for what you do! (I would send you pictures but I don’t know how to do that.)
one of my four kittens was so afraid of me all the time for no reason well i was always trying to hold her or pet her as all her brothers and sister what i did to help her relax is to completely ignore her existence i walk around her without giving her any eye contact she started to feel more relaxed and she now even comes and sleep right near me if i sleep on my bed she put herself between my legs and start grooming herself, lately i start to pet her when she didn’t refuse it if i feel like she’s not into it i just stop touching her , her biggest brother is a dog like cat he is always trying to get petted and groom me with his tongue and he always came and sit on me whatever i am doing , if he broke things which he always does he didn’t make eye contact and lie down on a hilarious way, every cat has it’s own personality and needs
Blocking my scared cats safety zones is something I have been putting off way too long, making them even more afraid crushes my soul, but it needs to be done
My situation is pretty different. I have 2 dogs and 1 cat. My cat is a male Korat and he is pretty moody cat. He likes getting pets when he is indoors, but the moment he goes outside it’s “Stay away from me at all times” even if he is calm or just relaxing. I do not mind him being outside, but it bothers me that he can clearly hear me when I call his name and ignores me, he arrives at the front door “whenever he feels like it”, there has been nights where he sleeps all night outside which worries me because he doesn’t get a long with other cats. If you want to ask where we got him, we got him when he was a teenage cat and all we know is that he was found under a car and was alright being around with my mom and decided to take him. We are not 100% sure if my cat was feral or ran away from home and became a lost cat, he didn’t had a collar on him at all. He is very anti-social with guest, the moment guest arrive he dashes off to the trees. I really want to know how to make my cat come to me when he is outside, because half of the time I have to sneak behind him and grab him. I really cannot do my stuff because I’m 90% of the time waiting in the living room waiting for him to arrive or on occasion try to call him.
I have a former feral cat that still won't let us hold her. Or basically physically interact with her. She is SO skitish!! She allows us to pet her. But only two or three strokes. She will give me hairy ankles when she wants food. She will even rub her cheek on my hand when I feed her. But she still acts like we are going to eat her or something. Always runs away. Hides/sleeps under one of the sofas. But she does spend a lot of time on the back porch. She plays with our other cat. Just so frustrated. She had no siblings. She and her mom were skin and bones, but wouldn't come to us for food. The mom abandoned her, and the other stray we were feeding showed her how to cone to out back door for food. Eventually that o e abandoned her too. So we just took her in. Just do t k ow how else to get her to trust us. *Sigh*
This advice is good. I followed it for my extremely shy cat and she has slowly been coming around. When we took away access to her hiding spot under the bed, she then took to hiding in the bottom part of the cat tree all the time, but now she can be found most times on our bed with her "brother". Which reminds me. Does anyone know if there's a DNA test for cats to find out if they're related? For some reason, it bothers me to not know if I should call them brother and sister or mom and son or just besties. 😅
I had no changes in my house except for a work schedule change over a month ago, and my adopted shelter tuxedo cat she used to be very social for the 3 years i have had her and always wanted to be around me whatever room i was in, but lately she is under the bed most of the day and night and she eats well. I don't understand it and I even got a cat tower tree she used to always be on
5:25 Okay that's the first ever time I heard you say block off anywhere high up because ironically you say give them vertical space to feel comfortable Edit I love your challenge line concept and for anyone who doesn’t know.what that means like me recently it just means pushing their comfort zone
When I was growing up, we had a cat named Gertrude. I had brought her mother into our house as a kitten. She was a lovely cat all her life, but before we even realized it, she came into heat and got pregnant. She gave birth to three kittens, 2 males and 1 female. The boys were very cute kittens and we had no trouble finding home for them. I named the female Gertrude. She had a tiny head and long, rather strange looking body and was painfully shy. She spent most of her time hiding in one closet or another. Nobody wanted her, so we wound up keeping her. She never enjoyed human company and her whole life, her mother was the only animal she would allow to be near her. I never figured out why she acted the way she did. She passed away decades ago, but I never forgot how strange she was.
My cats seem to need some alone time even from each other. I have nap snuggies set up in dif areas and places by the window for them to sun nap. I check on them if they hide, make sure they aren't sick or something. They need places they can feel safe and they both like to move to dif areas during the day.
my friend gave me 2 brothers, 3 months old, but they were raised on a farm. now they are in apartment. First one(that I was planning to only get in the start was more curious the second one was more afraid and under the bad. The good thing is me and my roommate had to move the bad so we can put the carpet under it, and I had to chase him out and hen I hold him behind his head and place him in my lap and surprisingly he stayed and didn't try to move at all. I was petting him. I noticed him running away when I walk by so I started to making bigger circles when I walked by. I notice him being under the bad every time his brother was laying with me so I started moving little bit bad myself but this time when I reached him he didn't try to run away. I even lift him up under his belly. Put him next to his brother and me. Even at night he would go to my legs and I had to place him back. 2. night of us sleeping together he purred for the first time while me petting him. We still need to work out with him not leaving just because his brother is next to me :)
Okay, all of this is great information. But what I want to know is: how long should you give your cat to eat their food before putting away the food bowl?
My cat, I am convinced, teleports to Narnia between the hours of roughly 10AM until dusk. He then just appears out of nowhere and observes the house activities until the sun comes back up. He is not interested in toys, He is not interested in boxes. Loud noises instantly teleport him back to Narnia no matter the time of day. I say Narnia because I have searched for him during these times in every conceivable place he could gain access to without success. I need to strap an air tag to him I think.
I always hear..."Crazy Cat Lady" Well we have a wonderful Crazy ABOUT CATS Man! We rescued 2 kittens(Admiral Mushington and Pirate Toe Bones) at about 9 days old...bottle fed the brothers and taught them kitty box time too. We have a HUGE dog (Mack) that they treat like furniture. Mack plays with the crazy babies all the time.....it most certainly is about PLAY! Break out the toys!😻😻 All my love from Mack, Mush and Toes!
I have had my cat for two months. She is very shy. I knew that when I adopted her from the shelter, but I didn’t expect it to be this extreme. She spends 100% of the day hiding behind the fridge. Because of the way my place is set up it is not a space I can block off. She does not interact with me at all and only comes out at night. I hear Jackson suggesting set feeding times and not allowing her to eat at night when I’ve gone to bed. I tried that before and she just stopped eating. It scared me because she is very petite to begin with and should not be skipping meals for days. Any thoughts?
Hey Erica, I'm in the exact same situation now. I adopted two kitties and they just hang out behind the fridge and only eat at night. Did you get your cat to eat during the day at some point? 🥺
I been taking care of 4 feral kitties in the back yard. I have been able to pick up 2 of them allowed to hold them and pet them for a few seconds. I got 2 flea collars on those 2. I trying to get them socialized enough to take them one at a time to the ferral clinic. The other 2 bite and scratch me. The only time they let me pet them is when they are working on a pile of treats. None of them really want anything to do with me unless they hungry. I just keep working on socialization
Way to go, Tina, the SW Cat Lady!
I love this community. Cat parents who love their babies and want them to feel their best, and Jackson who loves all cats and helps so many parents.
I love that you use the "parent" word instead of "owner". I hate saying that I own my cat. She is my mate, she is a lovely individual being and a part of our small family gang :)
@@skrzacikowo yeah I used to use the word owner, which ashames me now. Pets are not things to own, they are living beings who need love. ❤️

It took me 2 months to get my cat to trust me. She has started to follow me around and wants many many pets. But last week I sneezed a little too loud and now she won’t get out from under the bed lmao I have unintentionally traumatized my kitty
Oh my....I laughed so hard at this. We have all traumatised our cats with a sneeze. I'm sorry yours happened when she was still fragile!
2 of my 3 cats run for their life's when my partner sneezes lol
Yep...loud unexpected noises will scare any cat. You didn't traumatize your cat. Just remember this video and don't start catering your cat's needs while under the bed. Be patient and do all the things this video talks about 😽💕
My sister sneezed and scared my cats like 12 years ago. They are just now getting over it. Maybe. . .
@@debbie4503 oh no!! Luckily for me my kitty has become accustomed to my sneezes. Our relationship has been healed since I made this comment 🤣
I thought my cat didn't love me, but after watching yours videos I'm understanding that she does loves me! Now I can understand her! I'm so happy that I can understand her! Thank you!
Talyta's little cat family is so adorable. I love seeing everyone with their babies and caring so much about them.
Snap lol...it is pretty much their individual personalities allyson, treats usually do the trick.
Same! One of my cats is a social butterfly but the other only comes out to eat or use the litter.
I have 4 from the same litter, I was there when they were born, 2 are shy, the other 2 loves attention, one of which is even shyer then the other shy one, I can never get her to not run from me, even if I get 6 feet away from her, it's too much
Same thing here! I just adopted two kittens that are siblings. One is easygoing and social, whereas the other is almost always hiding.
@@stemarabellathecat oh man this doesn't fill me with trust that the cats we adopted 3 weeks ago will ever become tame...
My girl used to be like Kadu. I started giving her special attention, and now she's definitely better. I still put down her food dish before her brother's.
Wow 4 cats in an apartment, what a champion!
She's a great cat mom!
She’s always there for me 🥰🥰🥰
Sit on the floor, and give off good vibes, while the loop is playing, too. That’ll help it go even more smoothly ❤️
I can even make my feral feel safe, around guests, to the point where she comes out of hiding, and wants to get petted by them 🥰
Her name is Jasper, by the way. I named her after my favorite character, from the show, Steven Universe
Thanks for the suggestion. I never thought of that. Did it confuse Jasper though, to hear purring but not see any other cats?
Can you post a link or title of the vid that worked for you best PLEASE 😁
Thankfully, the only time my cat Abby tries to avoid me is when she thinks I'm going to either give her medicine (twice daily) or clean her ears (twice a week). She doesn't like either, so I can't blame her for acting that way. But I give her treats afterward as a reward, and she quickly forgives me. Other than that, she is very friendly and loving. A sweetie! 🥰😺
I clean my cats ears all the time too.
But I try to desensitize them by often touching, looking and "flaping"(?) their ears
@@rebecamatos721 How do u clean cats ears?I want to clean my boys ears Dudley but I’m not sure how 🐈
@@blackmagicwoman8280 It isn't hard. They have ear wax just like us, and they are a bit darker. So you use a q tip to clean it only in the areas you can see.
Usually it build up right after the entrance, a bit below, were "you can't see it" at first, but with a bit of an angle you can see it, and this place is really shallow, so no worries
If this explanation isn't enough, do tell me and I'll make a tiktok teaching how to do it :3

18 cats?! Wow you are amazing 💕
@@MischaDitamparOma thank you 😸
Ooh I wish I cud have 18 😊
@@bereal6590 I don't know how it happened but it did.
Have you tried playing with her! The “Da Bird” it makes cats hunting demons (in a good way)!
i’m almost 2 months into owning my cats. i adopted a bonded pair, both being 4 years old. my skittish girl is finally letting me pet her in her safe space. she is even coming out to be pet occasionally. i still have a long way to go with her, but she’s doing great. hopefully after resolving her dental issues and ear infection, she will feel better too and that will also show in her confidence.
I love the variety of personalities that cats can have and how no two cats are the same lol
yeah, i have a mama and son. mama is a calico, runs my house, will let almost anybody who is chill/has cat manners pet her, and generally *i* get pets when my chronic medical stuff is flaring up. her kiddo, on the other hand, is basically a one-person cat and it took several months to build that bond (totally worth it, he's the cuddliest bb i've ever had, he just is not a big fan of people he doesn't know in his space. i used some of jackson's tips to help get him where he was at least cool with me.)
How long did it take for that to transpire?
This video helped me in adjusting my new kitten to the tv sound! I learned not to feed in to my cat’s fear and blocked her hiding places.

Thank you.

And, yes, it's so cool to talk about love to cats with a look and blinking eyes! I did it intuitively 🥰
Hey Arlene. It’s been four months now. Do they let you pet them now?
Because of you my kitten stopped peeing on our sofa. All we needed was an additional cat litter box 😊thank you so much

Finally! This is my problem except my cat doesn’t even like to lay in the open! I’ve had my kitty for almost 2 years. 😭
I tried his scaredy cat drops and they work really well!

This advice has really helped. I foster and have gotten a few wall flower cats to be my friend now. I very much appreciate it.

I hope she will make a follow up video in a few months! I have a cat afraid of sounds, people, air. Thanks for tips.
when i do the slow eye blink to my cat, when i open my eyes back up, she has looked away by then...... it hurts...
The slow blink shouldn't last super long more like *I* love (blink) *you*. Im fostering a feral at and I've realized when my eyes are closed for too long he thinks I'm taking a mini nap which is something cats do all the time. Another way to calm them down would be to yawn when playing so the know you're not interested in hunting them
@@Kidnappedfaerie thank you will you the tips.
You don’t have to close them all the way- just a slight almost blink that’s slow, then slowly back open into a very soft look. You don’t need to be staring right into their eyes either. My kitty loves it when I look right next to her and do it, we do it a couple times and then she rolls over and falls asleep lol
@@MiuXiu aww thats so cuteee. thank you, will try it out with my bby kitten
Tallyta is not what I would consider a stereotypical "cat-lady." :)
This is an awesome channel and it's cool to see that you have an international audience!
Yeah don't u just hate the cat lady logo, like ur sad or sommat. I like my cats and other pets more than most people... sadno discerning yup 😊
It's almost like stereotypes aren't good, or something.
@@heatherbryant4197 Oh, that's so funny, I do the scratching on the paper bag too. And yes, prepare for the ambush!
I really appreciate this video. I'm struggling with my new foster cat and I think that I've been enabling him a bit.
JG is the MAN!!!
I'd NEVER give up on Charlie!
You are a genius. That cat carrier video helped immensely. Thank you.
I love all your videos! 😻
Adopt don t shop. Best moto ever! Thank U!
It's been three months, how is the cat going now?
Still a kitten at 3 months..
Same my tabby cat avoids me but only a few times she likes to pet her, but she like to be alone!
*Sigh*
My old cat used to hide from the younger one in the litter box, under the bed. But now? proud to say I’ve seen the old one bat the young one 😋
Would be awesome to see follow up videos with the subscribers
Nice job Jackson. Your advice to others have saved many human/feline relationships. Off topic, is that Danelectro an original?
This advice is good. I followed it for my extremely shy cat and she has slowly been coming around. When we took away access to her hiding spot under the bed, she then took to hiding in the bottom part of the cat tree all the time, but now she can be found most times on our bed with her "brother". Which reminds me. Does anyone know if there's a DNA test for cats to find out if they're related? For some reason, it bothers me to not know if I should call them brother and sister or mom and son or just besties. 😅
Angel say yes like all cats and kittens is very nice and cutes and much 👍👌😻❤️😸

I had no changes in my house except for a work schedule change over a month ago, and my adopted shelter tuxedo cat she used to be very social for the 3 years i have had her and always wanted to be around me whatever room i was in, but lately she is under the bed most of the day and night and she eats well. I don't understand it and I even got a cat tower tree she used to always be on
5:25 Okay that's the first ever time I heard you say block off anywhere high up because ironically you say give them vertical space to feel comfortable
Edit I love your challenge line concept and for anyone who doesn’t know.what that means like me recently it just means pushing their comfort zone
Does this apply to young kittens that you've just adopted?
Hellokitty and I thank you.
Okay, all of this is great information. But what I want to know is: how long should you give your cat to eat their food before putting away the food bowl?
I'm very late to this post and this is the exact question I want to know as well!
Any suggestions to block the under couch and chairs and end tables areas.
I wish I heard of Jackson Galaxy years ago, when I had my little Meow.
I always hear..."Crazy Cat Lady"
Well we have a wonderful Crazy ABOUT CATS Man!
Break out the toys!😻😻
All my love from Mack, Mush and Toes!
I worried they are going to have babies before I can get them fixed
I'm jealous I want 4!! 😊😊
My cat is the same but blind and i am letting him be invisible but i do play with him and he only sit next to me while i am in bed.
You have helped so much!
