The tuning fork with the fish is a pictorial of an old play-on-words joke..."you can tune a piano, but you cannot tuna fish"...or in this case, maybe you can.
There's no way on earth that this song doesn’t leave you in a good mood after hearing it. It is classic mainstream rock at it's absolute best. REO Speedwagon are legends. RIP Gary Richrath, a criminally underrated guitarist.
One of their best songs! It also contains one of the top lyric lines of all time (for me anyway)…”So if you’re tired of the same old stories, baby turn some pages.” A bit of truth right there! Glad you enjoyed this!
1000% I've always liked REO but this is their best song, imo. And spot on about one of the best lines of all time. One of those the older I get, the more I realize how truthful it is in any situation.
REO Speedwagon formed in 1967 but came to prominence mostly in the mid-70's and through the 80's. Their lead singer is Kevin Cronin. The name applies to the band, not just the lead singer. The name is pronounced "ARE EE OH Speedwagon." The object in the fish's mouth is a tuning fork, a device tuned to oscillate (vibrate) at a very precise frequency and prior to digital electronics was the most accurate means of tuning certain instruments like pianos (in fact, they're still used for that purpose by many professional tuners.) I think that answered most of your questions. Nice reaction Britt!
Yet another band that proves the Rock and Roll HOF is a joke for them not being in it. They formed in 1967 but didn't hit stardom until 1980 and the Album "Hi Infidelity". Lead singer Kevin Cronin and guitarist Gary Richrath were the driving force during their biggest years. They have sold over 40 million albums and 13 top 40 hits. Also one of the many live shows I've seen and it was one hit after another.
REO was amazing in the day. Great concert band, lots of energy and fantastic talent. This particular song has a great message that humanity seems to have forgotten.
The band is named after a 1915 truck called a Ransom Eli Olds Speedwagon... REO Speedwagon is the somewhat shortened version, hence the name of the band, which was originally formed in 1967. I've seen them in concert 4 times, and they never disappoint! Always a fun show! 😊 *KEEP ON LOVING YOU* *RIDIN' THE STORM OUT* These 2 song titles you should definitely react to!!&!
There's a lot of goodness on this whole album. I wore it right the heck out. It's a tuning fork in the fish's mouth. REO has a bunch of good songs that I'm sure you'll really like. Have a good day, Britt.
Yeah. Gary. I had my little daughter with me in a Chicago area recording studio, and she started crying. Gary said let me hold her. He moved around and "sung" to her. Hummed. She immediately stopped crying and stared at him. Ha. I'll never forget Gary humming. I do miss him. RIP my friend.
Back to basic rock & roll! You have no idea how blessed i feel to have lived when I did and experienced all this great music Live when it was affordable!!
REO Speedwagon (REO pronounced as individual letters R.E.O.) One of the most incredible live/recording bands of our/my time, imo. This is one of my absolute favorite songs of all time - such a great positive message, in a freaking absolute rocking song. I was fortunate to catch them live twice in my lifetime, but wish I had seen them more. Great reaction, looking forward to more reactions from this band. They were incredibly popular in the early 80s - and they still sounds great live. 👍🏻👍🏻🎶👍🏻👍🏻
I always loved the energy in this song. On my morning runs if this song came up I would find myself in a sprint without even realizing it the energy was that infectious.
Time for an REO history lesson. They were formed in 1967 at the University of Illinois in Champaign. The keyboard player with the wicked organ solo, Neal Doughty, was one of the founding members who came up with the name in his history of transportation class. The original REO (initials R.E.O.) Speedwagon named for the founder of the REO motor car company, Ransom Eli Olds, (later founder of the Oldsmobile company) was a truck from the early 1900's that was one of the first heavy duty trucks with speed and power mostly used as a fire truck. The hellish guitar solo was played by the great late Gary Richrath. The drum tracks were laid down by another original member Alan Gratzer. The lead singer who is still with the band is Kevin Cronin the voice behind all the power ballad hits from the 80's like Keep On Lovin You and Can't Fight This Feelin both number one hits. This song was from 1978 album called You Can Tune A Piano But You Can't Tuna FIsh.. By the way it's a Piano tuning fork in the fishes mouth, thus the pun. The harder rock songs were from the 70's and include must listens such as Golden Country, Keep Pushin, Riding The Strom Out(live version) Time For Me To Fly, Back On The Road Again (Sung by the bass player Bruce Hall). Their biggest hits were from the 80's and were more pop. The biggest album was Hi Infidelity from 1981(album of the year) with 4 top 40 hits including Keep On Lovin You, and the fantastic Take It On The Run (#5). Great all American Rock band still on the road playing to sold out venues all over the country. Most of their songs are about feeling better and fighting through the tough times in life and love. Start down the REO rabbit hole and enjoy the ride.
There's a live version from back in the 70s. That you really need to watch to really appreciate it. When that organ comes in & then the guitar solo, it's smokin'.
First Timer Here. HOLY SMOKES absolutely Aaaadorable reaction. Great song, Great album, Great band and AWESOME Singer. My next R E O fave to this would be "RIDIN THE STORM OUT"!! They have a BIG CATALOG Of Hits lady. Keep On Loving You, Don't Let Him Go and many more. Great Job Miss Britt!! Peace 🕊️☮️
Love your reaction to one of my favorite songs ! It truly has EVERYTHING that a feel good Rock n Roll song should have ! Warms my heart to see the younger generation enjoying music from the greatest decade for music ! IMO of course
I am so glad you found and enjoyed REO Speedwagon. They are still out there rocking. Their biggest and best hit was "Can't Fight This Feeling." I also love "Time for me to Fly."
REO was a great 70s rock band. They had a bunch of hits across several years. A lot of their songs were on the radio all the time for years. Check out another of their hits called Golden Country. And rest in peace to Gary Richrath, a fantastic rock guitarist.
R.E.O. Speedwagon mid seventies popularity soared. Was a staple of our 70s played often at every party. Neal Doughty, founding member and keyboardest while taking a class in college on “The History of Transportation,” he saw the term “R.E.O. Speedwagon” written on the blackboard. The R.E.O Speedwagon was a vehicle popular in 1915 from the Oldsmobile automotive company
REO Speedwagon is and always has been one my favorite bands. Several years back I got to go backstage and meet them. Kevin is a super nice down to earth fellow.
Right, they're a band, & the letters "R-E-O" are pronounced individually. They're one of the rock bands infamous for the members not getting along with each other, with a lot of personnel changes, but still managing to churn out hit after hit. This awesome song is from '78. Thanks for your reaction.
Yeah, just might be my all-time favorite jam from the '70's! I met Bruce Hall from Reo Speedwagon in a club in Wilkes-Barre, PA (of all places) around 1990 and I gotta tell ya, what a nice guy he is! Great band, GREAT song and... GREAT CHANNEL! Is it me or is Britt like a breath of fresh air??!! 😃 Subscribed!
R E O Speedwagon is a favorite group of mine. I love this song and your reaction to it. They had many many hits. Another good one is "Time For Me to Fly".
Late 70's early 80's rock and they venture into soft rock a little, That is a tuning fork in the fishes mouth hint Tune-A-Fish LOL cant fight this feeling is the biggest hit to me.
The best concert I ever went to was this album tour. This album had so many hits that the stadium just vibrated with the crowd singing along. It was a vibe.
Songs From REO to be listened to after this: "Time for Me to Fly", "Riding he Storm Out". "Keep On Lovin You" ,"Take it on the Run" "Don't Let him Go".
We saw them in concert recently at the Golden Nugget casino, the building was shaking so much from people jiving to the music that I thought it was gonna collapse. The tall speakers behind the band were shaking back and forth. It was so good
The organ in this song is a Hammond B3. They were used in many rock&roll and blues songs from the late 60's and 70's when paired with a Leslie ( the Leslie makes the swirling sound) the sound becomes unmistakable.
The band was named for the REO Speed Wagon truck manufactured in 1915. REO stands for Ransom Eli Olds, the man who founded the Oldsmobile car company. I love your videos, Britt. Greetings from Columbus, Ohio.
Britt, the Name of the Band is R E O Speedwagon, they formed in the late 1960's and were popular throughout the '70s. The "fork" in the fishes mouth is a Tuning fork used to tune pianos.
Love REO. saw them once in 70's. Their from Illinois, like I'm from Chicago Illinois and still live. I work for the city. Anyway REO had a pretty good run. It's a group. Check out their other songs.
On their 1978 album. I was 25 and lived through all this great music. Try driving down the freeway out in the open with this playing and see what speed you are doing about halfway through. Britt needs to watch a live performance and watch the keyboards hands during his solo.
The REO is spelled out. So you would call them R E O Speedwagon. They named themselves after a muscle car. REO stands for Ransem Eli Olds, who was the founder of Oldsmobile.
1970's the best rock era!! REO SPEEDWAGON "You can tuna piano but you cant tuna fish". Wore that album out, every scratch and bump is a treasured memory. Btw *go listen to REO Golden Country the lyrics still reign true today. ✌️❤️ Thanks Britt
this band has been on "perma-tour" for quite some time...saw them in 10th grade, touring their 2nd album (circa early 70s)...they hailed from Champaign, IL...
The name of the band is REO (said one letter at a time) Speedwagon. This song is from the 1970's. Lead singer Kevin Cronin is one of the top voices of all time.
One of my very favorite Album names. You Can Tune A Piano, But You Can't Tune A Fish!!! And that thing in the fish's mouth is a tuning fork thats used when you tune a piano. R.E.O. Speedwagon is a band and they're surprising!!!! ❤❤❤❤
I grew up in central Illinois and luckily, they released Hi Infidelity my freshmen year of high school. What a time to be alive. I've seen them live over a dozen times in everything from small venues to huge stadiums. In fact, the first date I went on with my now wife was to a REO concert in Peoria, IL in 1993.
It's a band-; the name is from a historic truck that they were studying in keyboardist Neil Doughty's History of Transportation class at the University of Illinois back in 1967 right at the time when drummer Alan Gratzer said he wanted to be in a band with Doughty so they should think of a name. Nothing really to do with the band, just a coincidence. Then they went through four guitarists before they found the Most Underrated Guitarist of All Time (no, seriously, he won a poll), the late great Gary Richrath. In the early days, Gary wrote most of the songs as they went through several singers, but Kevin Cronin (heard here) also ended up writing many successful songs, including this one. (BTW, it is R.E.O. Speedwagon, using initials rather than a word. Ransom Eli Olds had founded one of the great early car companies, Oldsmobile. [They were one of the original parts of General Motors.] But since corporate infighting in 1908 was not so different from today, Olds got tossed out of his own company and founded a new company, R.E.O., who made the truck Doughty was studying. An actual R.E.O. Speedwagon is seen on the cover of their debut album.) A fantastic live band, which kept them going through the rough years until they hit it big. This song is from 1978, but in 1977, they put out one of the great live albums, "You Get What You Play For". If you like, you can start right at the beginning with "Like You Do" (one of Gary's best songs) and go straight through to the end, "Golden Country", which is perhaps THE best. So much to discover! Enjoy!
This entire band could sing backup vocals. They produced this song in 1978. Neal Doughty, the last of the founding members left last year. Terry Lattrell was replaced by Cronin. Greg Philben was replaced by Bruce Hall. Alan Gratzer was replaced by Brian Hitt. Richrath was replaced by Dave Amato. They still rock.
It's just like the letters R E O they were a great band at their height in the late 70's early 80s. I highly recommend watching the live version of this or any of their songs. They were my favorite back then still listen to this music it was positive and a big part of my teenage years.
The band is R E O Speedwagon. That is a tuning fork in the fish's mouth. The singer in Kevin Cronan and the late, great Gary Richratn on lead guitar. The album was released in 1979. This is 70s classic rock. This song was a monster when it was released. This song kind of became an anthem for leaving the 70s and going into the 80s. This was released just before I started college in the fall of 1979. One of REO's best.
That’s a tuning fork in the fish’s mouth. A visual reference to the pun that is the title of the album. And that, beloved child, is Rock and Roll in its purest form. Screaming guitar, blazing keyboard and a come to Jesus finale for the ages. REO Speedwagon had a bunch of very popular hits, but this one is a barn burner that ranks among the all time greatest. Much love ❤️
this is my "hit the wall" song .. I'm 65 now .. I remember when this album was released... LOVE the tuning fork in the fish's mouth ... Hence "can't tuna fish" .. 😉 When I hit the wall .. screwed up, knew I had to find another way ... I'd sit down with my headphone and listen to this song ... There's always another way ... a better way ...
Their lead is no doubt an excellent singer and musician. It is a band. Lots of great songs. Have you done ? Can’t fight this feeling? Great song. You will know it immediately.
This was one of my favorite songs for a minute. I love the change over from Neil on the piano/keyboard to Gary 😇guitar. Too bad the "changes" they were talking about was their change in their overall product with "Hi Infidelity" It got them their well-deserved millions but was a drastic change to the dark side of HI. I bought the album the day it was released. Listened to it twice and sent it to my 12-year-old sister and said, "you're gonna love this". She didn't. She couldn't even believe it was REO. THIS was the good stuff. It's a crime they're not in the R&R HOF BTW this Friday night they're playing with STYX at the Nugget in Sparks, NV.🎸🎸 A few other great REO late 70's check out "157 Riverside Ave", "Golden Country" and "Ridin' the storm out".
R. E. O. Speedwagon is a 1970’s/80’s band of 5 very talented musicians Gary Richrath lead guitar, Kevin Cronin lead vocals/ guitar, piano. , Neal Doughty keyboards, Alan Gratzer drums and Bruce Hall bass Gary was so good and had one of the best guitar tones, I just loved that he would find space in just about any song and play a solo 🤘. Hahaha. The live version of the song “157 Riverside Ave” is worth a listen
oh my goodness you have to do more REO Speedwagon, Time for me to Fly is my favorite, but then there is Cant fight this feeling, keep on loving you, and take it on the run are some of their best
I saw REO in concert at an open air venue a few years ago. pre covid. many of the head liners from the 70s and 80s are playing smaller venues again. Sammy Hagar Vince Neil Fog Hat Reo Speedwagon ZZTop J Geils and many more
♦️♦️♦️🎼♦️♦️♦️🎼♦️♦️♦️ Really great song here by ........ R ( ... pause ...) E ( ... pause ...) O ( .. pause ..) ---- Speedwagon !! They were on the radio constantly in the 80s .. love their vibe and the lead singers voice . Nice on Britt !! 🎼 RRRR EEEEE OOO Speedwagon have bangers 🙊🙉🙈
It's a band...and this is quite easily one of the songs that if you don't have cruise control in your car you can get into some trouble. It was released in 1978...and it's Rock'n'Roll. IMO it's the 2nd best song off of the album...number 1 is The Unidentified Flying Tuna Trot.
It's a tuning fork. This band was always on the stereo in our senior lounge in 1978 😊
Best album cover ever. 70's. A group. The REO Speedwagon was a classic car.
@@douglasbriel6103 Yeah, if I remember REO was the initials of Robert Elvin Olds. They made some great trucks
I stand corrected, REO stood for Ransom Eli Olds
Yes a tuning fork i was surprised britt didnt know that....she is still a little cutie
The tuning fork with the fish is a pictorial of an old play-on-words joke..."you can tune a piano, but you cannot tuna fish"...or in this case, maybe you can.

I was just going to comment that line! I have actually used it in real life 😂❤
1000%
I've always liked REO but this is their best song, imo. And spot on about one of the best lines of all time. One of those the older I get, the more I realize how truthful it is in any situation.
Also one of my favorite Richrath guitar solos.

No introduction to REO Speedwagon is complete without hearing a live performance of "Ridin' the Storm Out". 🔥🔥🔥
1970s and early 1980s. It's REO Speedwagon. One of the top selling and longest lasting hitmaker groups of all time.
Yet another band that proves the Rock and Roll HOF is a joke for them not being in it.

this great music is from my hayday when I was in my late teens. the 70's and 60's were the best. btw you're absolutely adorable. keep rollin" Britt
Glad you enjoyed it!
Speedwagon is seen on the cover of their debut album.)
A fantastic live band, which kept them going through the rough years until they hit it big.
Enjoy!
One of my favorites love REO had all their albums 70s rock great music we were blessed
I seen this band 3xs. They sound this good live!
Definitely a rabbit hole worth going down! Love, love, LOVE REO Speedwagon! ❤
This song is an all-time classic. That organ solo!!
My favorite song of theirs by far.
Classic rock at it's finest !!
this is my "hit the wall" song .. I'm 65 now .. I remember when this album was released... LOVE the tuning fork in the fish's mouth ... Hence "can't tuna fish" .. 😉
When I hit the wall .. screwed up, knew I had to find another way ... I'd sit down with my headphone and listen to this song ...
There's always another way ... a better way ...
They rock! Just saw them live 2nd row center stage.
REO Speedwagon is a rock group formed in 1967 by University of Illinois students. They were very successful in the 70s and 80s. Many great songs!! 😅
Red Lion Inn. 70's. 💥
@@joanmayfield4791 I had a couple beers with Gary one night at the White Horse watching the All Star Frogs
My favorite reaction of yours so far. So clueless. So open and sweet. Thank you, Britt.
Their lead is no doubt an excellent singer and musician. It is a band. Lots of great songs. Have you done ? Can’t fight this feeling? Great song. You will know it immediately.
I haven't but I will keep that song in mind, thanks!
These guys were my first concert Toronto CNE 1981. Kevin had such an amazing voice, and Gary RIP was such an underrated guitar player.
There's absolutely no way on earth that you cannot be in a good mood after hearing this song. RIP Gary Richrath.
It's a crime they're not in the R&R HOF
BTW this Friday night they're playing with STYX at the Nugget in Sparks, NV.🎸🎸
A few other great REO late 70's check out "157 Riverside Ave", "Golden Country" and "Ridin' the storm out".
Sadly, "Cornerstone" was to Styx as "Hi Infidelity" was to REO... the beginning of the end. Lost two formerly great rock bands to top 40 pop. RIP.
Styv "Caught in the Act live" was excellent, even though it was the cause of their breakup.
Another great band from the late '70's, early '80's...they all had a message and they actually meant it..."keep on rollin'"
oh my goodness you have to do more REO Speedwagon, Time for me to Fly is my favorite, but then there is Cant fight this feeling, keep on loving you, and take it on the run are some of their best
Such a great band. He is such a great singer. Now you have to watch a video or live video.
This is the 70's late 70's ,my first concert at Summerfest the world's largest music festival!! Milwaukee Wisconsin!!!!!!
How could I have not noticed such a beautiful lady next to me 😅
Britt, you are the best. The world is your oyster. Peace. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS
I saw REO in concert at an open air venue a few years ago. pre covid. many of the head liners from the 70s and 80s are playing smaller venues again. Sammy Hagar Vince Neil Fog Hat Reo Speedwagon ZZTop J Geils and many more
High energy song,,,,,,💥💥💥👍🤪
Late '70's,,,,great reaction,,,,glad you like them. 👍
That's a tuning fork in the fish's mouth. My great-uncle tuned pianos and repaired violins, as a kid I use to play with the tuning forks in his shop.
Nobody talks with guitar the way Gary does! Arguably 1 of the most underrated guitarists in rock n roll. listen to 157 Riverside Ave, the best.
Love your reaction to this song. It’s as if I’m almost reliving my first reaction to hearing this song ❤
This is classic rock & roll. Welcome to The Super 70's. Those are some on the earliest electric keyboards. Casiotones.
