@@OldMusicFan83 Hello OldMusic! What a lovely thing to say, my friend. Do me a favor, never stop telling her that. Thanks for the comment, It was greatly appreciated. All my best 🙏♥️
The name of the album was "Hi Infidelity". It was a play on "Hi Fidelity", "or Hi-Fi". And "infidelity" is one word. No, I'm not trying to be a Grammar Nazi. The difference is important here. The way you wrote it, "High in fidelity", would mean someone is high in their faithfulness. "Infidelity" means "unfaithfulness", or, cheating on your other half.
Gary Richrath is one of the most underrated guitarist ever. He left the band because of the problems he had between him and the lead singer Kevin Cronin. Biggest mistake they ever made was letting him go.
CE Beidler...I wish I could give your comment two thumbs up. It's obvious Gary had his demons (as we all do), but there's nothing inaccurate as it relates to your comment. RIP Gary.
Through a mutual friend I happened to meet and hang out with Gary back in the 70's. My memory of him is he was basically a dick, but a talented dick. R.I.P.
REO was beloved in the Midwest during the 70's and 80's. For some reason they felt like a hometown band to me. Remember, this video was played in the early days of MTV. I wouldn't make too much of it. Artists were trying to figure out the new medium. This is a bit softer than earlier work, but a really great power ballad.
Actually when you think of R.E.O wedding songs, I'm sure most would agree it's "I can't fight this feeling!" But seriously you can play literally any song from the album "You can tune a piano but you can't tuna fish" yes, that really is the name of the album!
Hey, y'all! Just stumbled onto your channel earlier today; can't stop watching, now! This is one of my favorite 80s song!!! I was in junior high when it was released and there are so many great memories with this song. This album HI INFIDELITY has several great songs including my other favorite of theirs, TAKE IT ON THE RUN. Another later mid 80s song of theirs is CAN'T FIGHT THIS FEELING...excellent music video. Great music, great ballads, great rock music. I ❤ Rock and Roll!!!! Thanks for reacting to REO Speedwagon.
Roll With The Changes by REO is still one of my favorite songs. Shout out to Gary Richrath and the Flying Turkey Trot. You guys should know REO in Colorado was the first concert MTV ever aired.
REO Speedwagon along with Journey and Loverboy were huge when I was in junior high and like the first year of high school. The 80s were such a great time for rock music of all sorts. You had bands like this. The post punk, new wave bands were on every video channel and metal was making a resurgence despite music video channels not playing them. One of my favorite times of my life.
This is one of those songs that really takes me back. When this song came out in '81, I was in the 3rd grade, and this is one that I would here on the radio a lot while on the school bus.
LOL no they're not. A large amount of mentions for the "First power ballad" goes to Nazareth for their cover of "Love Hurts". Not ALWAYS, just saying....they get mentioned the most in lists of "the first power ballads". Also Aerosmtih's "Dream On". Both of which were before 1980.

The lead singer said this song is a response about finding out that his wife had been cheating on him before they were married. Instead of leaving her, he decided he would keep on loving her. He said that a lot of people over the years have told him they use that song as their wedding song, but that's a bad idea. In the very first verse of the song: You played dead, but you never bled, Instead you laid still in the grass, all coiled up and hissin'. She was a snake in the grass. Then he goes on: And though I know all about those men, still I don't remember...
REO Speedwagon is an amazing group. I'm an 80's brat, born in the 70's but I love a lot of the old classic country music and rock and roll, including some hard rock and classic rock from the 70's. Some of the best music. I love watching you guys react to a variety of music and videos that span through the decades and genres. You should check out REO Speedwagon's can't fight this feeling....... I think you would love Carrie Underwood's 'Just a dream' for Female Friday. "Say Something" by A Great Big World" "Storm" by Lifehouse.. I love seeing you react to Patsy Cline too. I am loving it.
REO Speedwagon signature song… “Riding the Storm Out” For another band, I encourage you to react to the Alan Parson’s Project, “I wouldn’t Want to be Like You”. Love this song.
For a couple of years we could not wait for REO SW to come to our town so we coud jam out to "Riding the Storm Out" and then they went the power ballad route with the lead singer( I think he wanted to be a Eric Carmen clone) winning out over Gary Richrath their talented underrated guitarist and it was never the same
Ridin' the Storm Out (the live version) is my all-time favorite REO song!!! My friend in college grew up in a very small farm town in western Illinois, and the high schools were so small that a bunch of them got together and had their prom at Western Illinois University. When REO Speedwagon was first starting out, they played his brother's PROM!
REO Speedwagon. This song, on their 9th album Hi Infidelity (1980) was released in late 1980, and was their first top 10 hit, reaching number 1. REO has been around, however, since 1971, when their 1st album was released. Been listening to them since the early 1970's. Great REO songs that pre-date Keep On Loving You are: Keep Pushin', 157 Riverside Avenue, Ridin' The Storm Out, Golden Country, Little Queenie, Like You Do, Roll With The Changes, Time For Me To Fly, Only The Strong Survive, & On The Road Again. My favorite REO Speedwagon album is their 1977 live album, Live: You Get What You Play For.
You have to remember that A LOT of ‘80’s music videos were often directed by ‘commercial’ directors trying to make a name, and the video’s frequently are an artistic indulgence for the director. They seemingly have no context relating to the song. The song is the song… the video is the video. If you had never seen this video, and listened to the song, it would literally just be a sweet love song, slightly in the ‘power ballad’ category. Often overlooked with REO, is the harmonizing. Kevin. Cronin’s natural soprano, (that’s not falsetto) needs to be harmonized with a few voices in lower registers, they did that as well as anyone.
The chorus is called the hook. Every song has one. It holds the song together and most important it’s the part that grabs the listener and the part that keeps playing in your head.
...."you played dead, but you never bled.... instead, you lay still in the grass all coiled up and hissing"... some of the best lyrics ever in 70's arena ballad rock history
The 80's rocked one of my favorite groups when I was a teenager. Still love them today. Time for me to fly, take it on TV the run (yeah it's the video, videos ruled the 80's helped sell song's)
At the 2:00 minute mark is the best line of any love song ever. "Oh, you played dead But, you never bled Instead, you lay still in the grass, all coiled up and hissing." I would have my feelings hurt for life if someone said that to me...lol.
This is their best song, and actually the very first power ballad to use strong electric guitar power chords. It started a revolution! This was early 1981, and it FINALLY put them on the map. It hit #1, and so many rock bands followed in their footsteps. You just listened to the beginning of the 80's power ballad era with this song!!! 💯
REO Soeedwagon songs are every memory from my H.S. years and my first concert in 1981 (Cost $9.00 plus a .25 cent convenience fee) ! They had several top 10 hits from the late 70's to mid 80's. Aahh, the good ole days 😎.
It’s a deep cut but “The Key” is one of my favourites. Other hits are: 1) I Wish You Were Here 2) Can’t Fight This Feeling 3) Here With Me 4) Take It On the Run 5) In My Dreams 6) I Don’t Want to Lose You 7) Time For Me To Fly
My wife and I were fortunate to see this hit machine last year when they toured with STYX. It was a great show. Both bands sound just as good now as they did when the tunes originally came out.
PLEASE do "157 Riverside Avenue," "Roll With The Changes" and "Riding the Storm Out." Roll and Riding are more traditional straight-forward rock songs with a driving beat and great vocals. For 157 you'll want to get the live version. It's just NUTS, but a lot of fun. Guarantee you've never heard anything quite like it in your lives! Three GREAT SONGS! Back in the day REO was considered one of the best arena rock bands you could see live. They just put out everything they had into every song. You won't see anything like that today. And it's too bad.
Kevin Cronin actually wrote this song about his wife who he was in the middle of separating from at the time. The beginning of the video is just some bum director's lousy idea that means nothing and they probably regretted doing it immediately afterwards. I have strange feelings about this song for an unusual reason. When it came out, everybody who knew us thought it was me and my music partner and that we hadn't told anyone back home who used to come see us that we'd been signed to a record deal and released a single and that it was supposed to be a surprise. Lol! My partner sounded like the lead singer and I used to sing really high like in the chorus. I heard about this for years afterward whenever I'd hear from people from back home. Lol! But actually, like so many others, it just never happened for me.
REO & Journey have their own musical genre Rock N Roll mixed with some blues. Not only that the two bands have the best ballads in music history/ to this very day!!
Such a great band! Other hits of theirs include Roll with the Changes, That Ain't Love, Take it on the Run, Don't Let Him Go, Time for Me to Fly, Back on the Road Again, and Ridin' the Storm Out.
REO Speedwagon Chicago Cheap Trick Styx Survivor 5 bands from my home state of Illinois. They were largely contemporaries. Chicago was a few years ahead of the others. They have produced 120 hits…40 top 10 hits…each band has had #1 hits. Cheap Trick and Chicago are in the RnR HOF.
Reo Speedwagon has over 40 years of amazing songs...check out more of them...the more you hear from them the more you will love them..great band..great guys...lots of uplifting songs from them...check out roll with the changes or say you love me or say goodnight...great piano solo.
This is the album that put them on top to number one back in 1980. The whole album is a masterpiece! Their guitar player Gary Dean Richrath died in 2015. The band was formed in Chicago.
You are very correct. Guitar oriented- their song “Take it on the run” is the quintessential banger - kid u knott- top ten guitar solos- so much power and you will love the wailing on the high high strings
“You played dead but you never bled. Instead you laid still in the grass all coiled up and hissing”. Great lyrics. Love this song. I agree, the video is a little creepy 😂😂. Still, a fantastic song. Merry Christmas 🎄🌺✌️
I was born in 1990 and this was the first song I remember being obsessed with when I was a kid it was my dads cassette he had I listened it over and over again.
About 5 years ago, I took my kids to see R.E.O., Def Leppard, and Tesla. They knew every word to every song. So glad you’re loving the 70’s and 80’s. They are the best!
I love REO Speedwagon... two of my favorite songs by them "Take it on the Run", and "Can't fight this feeling". I just love the way they sing together! Had never seen the video...song is better than the video.
The part that gets to me, is when he says "When I said that I love you, I meant that I'd love you forever". It's just an absolutely beautiful song.
I’ve laid that line on my wife before.

"Ridin' The Storm Out" and "Roll With The Changes (Keep On Rollin')" as well!
"Take It On The Run", "Roll With The Changes", and my personal favorite, "Riding The Storm Out." REO Speed Wagon is a great group.
Favorite song by them is Take it on the run
'Take it on the run' is a classic.
One of my fav songs what a voice what a band
What a great, great group. One of my tops.
I'm surprised no one really mentioned "I Wish You Were There". That's a must for you to listen to.
REO & Journey have their own musical genre Rock N Roll mixed with some blues. Not only that the two bands have the best ballads in music history/ to this very day!!
Saw REO in concert back in the late 70's in college. It was amazing!!!!
Such a great band! Other hits of theirs include Roll with the Changes, That Ain't Love, Take it on the Run, Don't Let Him Go, Time for Me to Fly, Back on the Road Again, and Ridin' the Storm Out.
Back on the Road Again is criminally underrated!
You forgot 157 Riverside Avenue . All songs on "You Can Tune A Piano But You Can't Tuna Fish" and "You Get What You Played For".
Not one of the most underrated guitarists of all time, but THE most. R.I.P. Mr. Richrath, you are missed
In my opinion this is absolutely their best song sometimes we get caught up in the lyrics but the music and his voice are amazing great reaction guys.
i have seen these guys in concert in the late 80's and wow OUTSTANDING
"Don't Let Him Go" is much faster-paced song, with another being "Roll With the Changes"
Roll With the Changes! You have to hear Roll With the Changes! Such good energy and some of the best musicianship of any song ever!
This song brings me right back to 11th grade.
REO Speedwagon
Chicago
Cheap Trick
Styx
Survivor
5 bands from my home state of Illinois. They were largely contemporaries. Chicago was a few years ahead of the others. They have produced 120 hits…40 top 10 hits…each band has had #1 hits. Cheap Trick and Chicago are in the RnR HOF.
Yep all Ilinois bands!
Take it on the run is my favorite by them. Great Band
Reo Speedwagon has over 40 years of amazing songs...check out more of them...the more you hear from them the more you will love them..great band..great guys...lots of uplifting songs from them...check out roll with the changes or say you love me or say goodnight...great piano solo.
REO Speedwagon...another band with that classic 70's sound. Love it!
Riding the Storm Out was my favorite rocking song from them.
OMIGOSH I love this one! Seen them once in concert and was great!
This is the album that put them on top to number one back in 1980. The whole album is a masterpiece! Their guitar player Gary Dean Richrath died in 2015. The band was formed in Chicago.
Love REO Speedwagon!!!!! Gotta do some Cheap Trick, Surrender!
The sound in this particular song is just screaming ...and so rich !
Loving the 70's Rock vibe today.
Amber, you need to listen to Lynard Skynard Simple Man... A mother and son song!!
I was born in 1990 and this was the first song I remember being obsessed with when I was a kid it was my dads cassette he had I listened it over and over again.
I have this album on vinyl and I played it so much when I was a kid. I loved it so much. Good song choice!
Dig deep early 70s Gary Richraft flying turkey trot live REO Speed wagon guitar solo and golden country live
About 5 years ago, I took my kids to see R.E.O., Def Leppard, and Tesla. They knew every word to every song. So glad you’re loving the 70’s and 80’s. They are the best!
These guys are from my teen days...lots of memories. Can believe I still remembered all the words!
I love REO Speedwagon... two of my favorite songs by them "Take it on the Run", and "Can't fight this feeling". I just love the way they sing together! Had never seen the video...song is better than the video.
I played this song on cassette! so many times. Still love it and REO!!
