Even if checked if you test with a multimeter, it may appear OK, but there id still arcing internally. A multimeter works at about 9 Volt, but the actual voltage is 15000 to 25000. A different story. I have experienced this. They last 3 years max.

Yes best to replace the leads , distributor cap and rotor, after 2 to 3 years

Its humiliating when your car does this. I've put up with this for more than a year. I'm waiting on the parts now so hopefully in a few days I can end this lingering problem once and for all.

Good tip is to run your engine in the dark and spray water mist over it while it is running. If any of your HT leads are not insulating properly, you'll see the arcs in the dark, and you'll know where the issue is.

Also wise to invest in that multimeter and just do continuity and resistance check, I myself got fooled by replacing coil first then it was the leads, but I was wet behind the ears then, lol.

May I point out that the ''main'' lead from the coil works four times harder than the leads to the plugs, and is more likely to give trouble. I would like to hear from readers what their experience has been with carbon powder filled leads

Could be flooding,or fuel getting too hot if you using the fuel separator ..fuel gets so hot in there it vaporises..making it hard to start ..that's why it must cool down .

    • @pjs-golfmk1-diy

Hi ,cap and rotor won't affect the timing.just ensure u put the leads into the correct holes when you do the cap.do it one by one..then u good
Ensure u put the cap on exactly as the previous one...and also make sure you snap the rotor down securely

    • @pjs-golfmk1-diy
