I'm going to add my 2 cents. For 1 year I've struggled to get my 1.3 golf MK1 Citi to run properly. I've replaced carburettor, fuel pump, fuel lines, replaced the tank, fuel sending unit, fuel hoses, petrol filters, fuel separator I even put a t piece just like in the video with a reducer nothing worked. So this is what I found. The mechanical fuel pump pressure is to low to pump fuel with all the connections and fuel separator. Yes t piece does increase a bit of fuel pressure but still not enough. So the 2 options you can do. Number 1 add a low pressure electronic fuel pump to help the mechanical fuel pump then you will have no issues whatsoever. High pressure pump will kill you spark plugs and over fuel the carburettor. Number 2 go straight to fuel injection but be prepared to dig deep into the pockets very expensive to do. In my experience add a low pressure electronic fuel pump to help the mechanical pump to get the right amount of fuel to the carburettor.
Been struggling with this since replacing an engine last year and could not find a video with a good detailed solution. This was everything I needed to know. Going to sort out the problem right now and maybe my wife will forgive me for spending so much on that engine. Dankie broer.

As far as the vapour separator goes, I have moved it away from the egnine using a bracket that I made. I replaced it and the car still had fuel starvation only when hot. I discovered petrol boiling in the separator. Up here in Gauteng, our petrol has some ethanol in it that lowers the boiling point. When I pulled off the outlet when the symptom appeared, I could hear it boil. When I moved it away and the problem stopped. My engine was at the normal 80 deg C.

Well the whole video is focused around removing or identifying any form of blockage which can cause fuel starvation. Hi PJ, I have switched the petrol pump, there is a little bit more petrol however, the petrol filter is not even 1/4 full in the filter. What else could it be? Could it be that the pipe from the tank to the petrol filter might have a crack or hole somewhere. Thank you
@@hadleypetersen8873 the petrol filter is not meant to fill up while the engine is running ... The suction of the fuel pump does not allow the fuel to settle in the filter... its just supposed to flow through the filter. Good day Mr J where are u situated i need ur expertise on polo playa 2000 1.6 desperately. Not sure if i may leave my no on this platform
Hi you could WhatsApp me on 082 346 2437...
Hi, where do I get the correct restrictor for the return line please?
Goldwagen should have it
So why are we disconnecting the return and the feed on the tank, what are we doing there after removal? Because you went from the straight to the fuel separator??
Well the whole video is focused around removing or identifying any form of blockage which can cause fuel starvation. So, when we remove the fuel sender our intention is to determine if the fuel pick up is blocked, and that I have indicated in the pic of the fuel sender, where I specifically made a note in the pic, that you need to clean the fuel pick up pipe. See 6.22
Can a straight fuel pump,, work on a car that had a curved pump on the part that goes on the camshaft
I wud not trust that.. Rather get the correct part made for that specific engine
I went all over I cant find that specific pump even at goldwagen
@@modupetsomo9585 so u say it's a jetta.... Why has it got a curved tip? Maybe that was the wrong part anyway.. You need to just check with goldwagen.. Take that part with and ask if a normal straight tip will work on the car
hi pj plz tell me how to adjust distributer....car is killing me on fuel its 1.6 carb
and car is pinging
the carb is tuned CO's have been set to 1,7 on the CO2 machine
You say it's carb... Have u tried setting it with a timing gun/light?
@@pjs-golfmk1-diy
no u havent
but why is this car so heavy on fuel
if i fill like R60 i am getting like 24kms
i ment i havent tried using timing light
perhaps would u like to chat on whatsapp
If your ignition timing is not set on the mark you will use more fuel. I suggest first have that done.
Evening, I know this is a old video but ive replaced my fuel separator with a t valve / joint. I just want to make sure is it normal for the mechanical fuel pump to get hot, can touch it but it is warm enough to burn, is this normal as I can remember if it got that hot before I did the swap with the fuel separator
Hi. Is it Def after u put t joint in.. Was it doing this before...?... Pump shud not get scorching hot. try reverting to fuel separator and see if it still happens.
@@pjs-golfmk1-diy thanks, I will put separator on again and see what happens
@@pjs-golfmk1-diy and the heat can't be coming from my fuel line (going into pump) that is laying against my water line the top big one coming from my radiator
Hi where can I find the T-piece that you are using. Thanks in advance
Hi there. Most spare shops have these.. You can get plastic, or even metal type...
Thank for asking
Hi PJ,I have checked all these possible areas but my petrol filter stil has little petrol in it. I have replaced the petrol filter, petrol pump and have inserted a t-piece but still nothing. What else can I do?
I have a Golf 1.3 Carb
Do you have fuel starvation symptoms... Does the car cut out and jerk?.. If it is, check how strong the flow of fuel is from the pump,by taking off the pipe running into the carb.it should give spurts of fuel ...not a gentle trickle.Your pump may be new ,but it could just be bad quality..
@@pjs-golfmk1-diy ok I will check it out tomorrow. Thank yoh have a good evening
The most important thing is if you have nice strong Spurts of fuel coming out of the pipe going into the carb.. Have you checked on that yet?. In my latest video I talk more about this. Have a look at the video. youtu.be/th-cam.com/video/yBvQrfIXa_c/w-d-xo.html
@@pjs-golfmk1-diy Thank you PJ, I thought the petrol was supposed to settle in the filter because I recall in one of your videos that you checked the filter to see if there is petrol in there. Also, should there be some petrol in the filter or is it meant to be empty? I will do the test you recommended.
Bro thanks so much for your videos. You got my subscription and like.
Lovely man... Thanks!
Is it wrong to move the separator away from its hot normal position to a cooler place?
Yes ,if u can move it away from its original location to somewhere at the end of the cylinder head it would not get so hot ....I know some Mk1 owners have done this...just takes a bit of creative thinking...
My pump looks like it struggled to suck the feul, any tips or do you think the t piece will fix that?
Hi. Yes you could try a T piece... And see if there's a difference. You must use a 6mm t piece.. Sometimes the fuel separators. are the problem..
@@pjs-golfmk1-diy oom you life saver! I connect the pump directly to my 34 weber om my 1.3 chico and she is running sweet, the feul starvations is gone just did 30km without skipping a beat
I got a 6mm brass t piece instead of plastic hope fully it will last longer
@@joachimcilliers hi there Joachim. That's good to hear.. Did you have on a fuel separator before u connected direct to Carb, from pump? . I speak under correction that u don't need a return pipe if you have a weber carb.... But I'm glad it's running great... Just keep monitoring it and give us more feedback in a couple of days..
@@joachimcilliers have u fitted the T piece also..?
Hi Mr. Jones. Nice videos n thanks for all the nice content. Are you currently still running with the mod and did it effect your fuel consumption...? Thanks
Hi. Pleasure!..Yes still running...fuel consumption seems to be same as with a fuel separator
@@pjs-golfmk1-diy Thanks again. Keep up the good work. Regards my broer
Hi do you have a workshop cause I'm a woman and got Golf Mk1 2005 Chico with feulpump/carburetor problem.
how to you set the air fue; mixture screw i,, 3 plugs are burning black how do i fix that
Hi there. I have a video on my channel " Carb Tuning" . Pls have a look, it explains the setting of air fuel screw . Thanks
my car went out of gas. now it starts fine and revs good but when i drive like a 100m it dies again but gets good feul to carb?
Could just be a blockage
Check your fuel filter.,could be some dirt stuck in your fuel pick up in the tank ,so just take off the fuel filter and blow down that pipe toward the tank...check fuel separator too

How to adjust the curberetor so that it does not chow too much fuel

dankie boet 👍
Good day sir. How can one fix a faulty float (not correct reading given at the fuel gauge)?
Help please👏
Hi Jered.have u tried taking the float out as I show in video?... Maybe it's a bit stuck or the ball could have a hole in it and fuel fills up the ball, and weighs it downward giving wrong reading... It's best to take it out and inspect...
@@pjs-golfmk1-diy I did an inspection but I didn't look if there's any holes in the ball.
I only cleaned the resistor thing.
Thanks Mr PJ
