    This week’s film breakdown analyzes University of Michigan's NFL draft prospect defensive end, Aidan Hutchinson. Hutchinson is the projected number one overall draft pick and he has the production and athletic scores to back it up. But, there are rarely ever perfect prospects and Hutchinson is far from perfect, specifically in one area. What is that area and is he capable of overcoming his problems at the next level? This week’s episode uses the all-22 coaches film to analyze University of Michigan’s defensive end Aidan Hutchinson as he enters the 2022 NFL Draft.

      I'm more impressed with Thibs on the field than with Hutchinson, but Hutchinson is my number one because of what he can do to any team's culture since day 1. You draft him and your defense(and team overall) instantly gets a leader and a role model with insane work ethic, so he's basically another Watt brother. Jaguars could get Thibs because he's a more talented edge rusher, but the Jaguars NEED someone like Aidan Hutchinson to turn this team around.

    Good Video Alex!! I think that with Hutchinson, his arms are almost an inch shorter than Nick Bosa, and he is gonna need a good coach in order to teach him how to adapt to his arm length when going against behemoth tackles which are becoming more common now.

    • @AlexRollinsNFL
      @AlexRollinsNFL  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      He reminds me a lot of Nick to be honest. There were questions about Nick's athleticism coming out of OSU, and while Hutch has the combine numbers, his athleticism doesn't necessarily JUMP off the tape. Nick's pass rushing repertoire was more polished coming out, however Hutch is more of an all around polished prospect imo

    @jmg999 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    This was another really great analysis. I appreciate that you mentioned his dropstep, b/c I'd seen that on gametape, too, but I hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere else. Another recent high draft pick he reminds of is Chase Young, although for different reasons. Young was incredibly athletic and relied on that athleticism in order to beat most defenders. His technique wasn't nearly as strong as it could have been, and some of this has shown up in the League. In the case of Hutchinson, while he is unable to rely on that level of athleticism, he's honed a couple of techniques to his advantage, and by doing so, I believe that he found what worked for him the majority of the time. The problem was, against elite offensive lineman, especially the type he'll find at the next level, he a couple moves only go so far. I feel that he'll have to broaden his repertoire of pass rushing maneuvers in order to remain competitive at the next level.

    • @AlexRollinsNFL
      @AlexRollinsNFL  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks JMG, yeah that showed up way too often. I'm not doubting Michigan's staff, but I wonder if it was some odd sort of technique they were trying to teach? He's similar to Young in terms of repertoire of moves, but I'm not sure I'd comp him much more than that.

    • @jmg999
      @jmg999 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlexRollinsNFL I didn't communicate my point very well. I don't think that Hutchinson is similar to Young on a player-to-player basis. What I meant to say was, I think that they're similar in that they both rely on a few very specific techniques to make their games work.

    One thing about the combine, it doesn't measures a person's motor/ mentality. Teams get enamored with players that test great in the 40-yard dash but does it match their production. He resembles JaDaveon Clowney in the sense that his skillset is so limited that in a defensive context that doesn't set him up to win he won't be an effective speed rusher. I would make the personnel argument as a coach to have him play more and transition to a stand up 3-4 edge because he plays the run so well as well as having the football understanding of the game he has.

    Thoughts on the weird hate that KT is getting recently? Some people having dropping out of the top 10. Micah Parsons had the same “character concerns” last year that caused him to drop out of the top 10, it was just stupid in my opinion

      I haven't given him a super in-depth deep dive, so can't speak on if it's a talent/film issue or not. I know Hutchinson is making a PFF podcast based on his entire life story, so I don't see how that's not more of a red flag than anything KT has done so far..

      @@i_feel_bad_for_my_haters1810 - Yeah, but I’m not sure if that was because of a character issue or something else. The Cowboys have proven time and time again that they will draft and trade for players with character issues (Charles Haley, Micah Parsons, Ezekiel Elliott) *OR* add reclamation projects with similar issues (Aldon Smith).

    His length is going to be a huge problem in the nfl. How effective was he against future NFL tackles? Not at all. He got dominated by ever tackle with length. His quickness will work well for awhile but I just don’t see consistent pass rush effectiveness in the NFL. I see a good motor player who is maybe a 6-8 sack guy and 3rd down specialist.

    • @timjackson116
      @timjackson116 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Had absolutely no problem against NPF, Curne, Rasheed Walker, Bruss, Jones, Beach, Skoronski, Kirkland, Mumford. If your opinion is the Georgia game where he got belted 1 play than idk what to tell you.
      He is the only pick at 1. Work ethic, motor, leadership, smart, numbers, athleticism. I look at players who made the entire team better, made the secondary better.

    That transition, lol. Just seems to be a weak class, not a great year compared to some of the recent ones we’ve had. Could be wrong, I’m not a college expert but lot of the analysis I’ve read/watched has said there aren’t a lot of slam dunk picks.

    • @bolbyballinger
      @bolbyballinger 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In terms of slam dunks maybe not, however because covid led to guys getting an extra year of eligibility a lot of good, but not great, prospects stuck around another year and we're now seeing the backlog come forward.
      There are a TON of good prospects in this draft and it's arguably the deepest ever.
