    This week’s film breakdown analyzes the University of Georgia’s Defensive Tackle Jordan Davis. Davis is the biggest bully in the draft due to his unique size (6’6 340) and his physical play style. Just a season or two ago Davis would not have been as valuable in the league due to the then-current schematic differences, but now that the league has started shifting back towards the need for the big man, Davis is in high demand. Where will Jordan Davis be drafted and will the team properly use him? This week’s episode uses the all-22 coaches film to analyze University of Georgia’s Defensive Tackle Jordan Davis as he enters the 2022 NFL Draft.

    Great spotlight. Jordan Davis is the answer to the question: What if a Snorlax decided to strap on a helmet and put a jersey on? Even with the concerns, I think any fanbase should be excited if they get him. 49ers already have Kinlaw who really was a pillar against the run before he was placed on IR. I like him, and like Davis just as much. Sometimes I still yearn for the golden era of nose tackles like Gilbert Brown, Ted Washington, Jerry Ball, Joel Steed, Grady Jackson, Norman Hand, or Dan Wilkson. Just big monsters in the middle stonewalling offenses. Perhaps Jordan Davis will be the next good one. I echo the sentiment that he should be a Charger.

    As a Georgia fan, I really appreciate you taking the time to evaluate Davis and his potential in the NFL. He is a beast unlike just about any prospects we have seen in the past. At the same time, I am wondering if you have any insight into why he is slow to react to the snap. That doesn't seem like a problem that is easy to fix, if it is fixable at all. Slow reaction times don't usually fly in the NFL. Also, I am taking the "giddyup" as a Kramer reference. As always...great stuff!

    • @HeyJaccoby
      @HeyJaccoby 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I am by no means an expert, but i believe the reason Jordan Davis does not react immediately to the snap is due to the fact he is reading and gauging the Center and guards movement. It appears he is reading the center and guards movement and then filling the gap or hole on most plays instead of directly watching the ball being snapped.

    • @AlexRollinsNFL
      @AlexRollinsNFL  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Inadvertent Kramer references are the best Kramer references, a Freudian slip! I think it can be improved with better coaching ie where to put his eyes and his presnap process.. but if he's just simply slow to react that could be detrimental

  • @PlaySA
    @PlaySA 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I dunno about him. Seen him get bullied by double teams, and his hands really don't have the power you would expect. Why do we not see him walk guys back all the time? I think he's a promising prospect but could be a bit of fool's gold as well, the tape and production isn't there as much as the combine performance would suggest. He plays too upright so he's easier to move than he should be.

    • @AlexRollinsNFL
      @AlexRollinsNFL  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's a valid concern, he impressed me with his suddenness moving to his left when he was slanting into gaps, but yeah, not quite as much power on film as you'd expect

    • @modelsublime
      @modelsublime 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of that was due to conditioning in my opinion. That's why his film in the SEC Championship and the National Championship is so different. He was gassed less than halfway thru the SEC Championship, in the National Championship he played closed to 60 snaps.

    • @ChawletMelk
      @ChawletMelk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's his height, I think. Being that tall makes it harder to get leverage. Not matter how strong you are, the low man has the advantage in the power department. It's one of the reasons that Aaron Donald is so great at bull rushing, he's insanely strong and he's relatively short for his position, so he always has the leverage advantage on top of it.

But, UGA has such a great defense it was difficult for the football lover to see any faults in Davis. I still think he is going to be a terror in the NFL. One mock had him at 22?!?! In his nfl season he was very promising… the eagles run d was the best when he was on the field but not only that but those 4 weeks he was injured the eagles arguably were the worst rushing defense in the league during that time… I used to think “he’s just big he can’t rush we shoulda got Hamilton” until I seen him stand up two blockers and when the running back went to redirect there was nothing there cause jordan Davis anchored the guard and center and it was a tfl. I do agree that he needs to lose some weight and play at atleast 320 or 315 but he’s primed for a breakout year with a increase in snaps… the eagles didn’t utilize him much because they were mostly in 3rd and long situations with hargrave cox reddick and sweat rushing. Davis got punked in the first game but he got better with every game he played (the cardinals game was a great showing for him) I just hope he stays healthy

    I really hope the chargers land this beast and win a Superbowl he's out missing piece to the front four. We have bosa and mack on the outside and having Jordan Davis disrupting on the inside it's a wrap the chargers offense is good enough maybe pick up a right tackle later in the draft.

    Hot take: He’s going to Atlanta. Run defense sucks, he’ll open doors for everybody else in the pass rush, and he’s so freaky that I doubt he gets out of the top 10. More than anything, the Falcons just need someone to reset the line of scrimmage, and JD would be a perfect fit in Dean Pees’ defense. We’ve never seen anybody this big and athletic before. He’s a really big unicorn.

      @@TheKRL78 uhhh....do people even watch/observe _actual_ NFL D-Line player rotations? Of course, there are exceptions like Aaron Donald, but the vast majority of big guys in the middle(especially 0-techinque guys, which Donald is not) are removed from the field on 3rd down, even former first-rounders, Pro-Bowl guys. It was so prevalent that me and a friend of mine actually had a conversation about it during the first and second round of the playoffs. The creator of this video also brought it up in 10:22.

    I think the Chargers plan to take him if he makes it to 17. He helps the biggest weakness in Staley’s scheme. It’s why the Rams got Ashawn Robinson. But Davis has the the talent to be even more disruptive. I think that’s why they signed Austin Johnson who can be a starter if necessary or a rotational piece.

    The 49ers live with the zone run but also employ the 0-tech in their defensive scheme some of the time. I've been watching the size/speed back and forth in the NFL for 40+ years now ... the things around the edges change but the pattern remains.
