Totally disagree about the Rivian storage between bed and cab. It's an awesome feature. You can put large things you don't want stolen in there and lock them up. Unlike being in the cab- no one can see them through the windows.

You want the pro lightning or base Silverado trim then. This is an "adventure vehicle" even when they do in house motors in a couple year's and switch to cheaper lfp pack's. It's still gonna cost 70-85k depending on options. Assuming they survive that long anyway. 😀

That storage cubby tunnel is incredible. I would love to have a tunnel there on my truck for either a full pullout tool kit for a work truck or a camp kitchen for a camper rig.
The first thing I thought of was there is no need for a tool box stretched across the bed. The only thing it needs is a pull out tray incorporated and there would be no question for its usefulness.
@@wheeln24-79 if only people using them for work would buy trucks, they would sell one tenth of them. And rivian has never tried to sell it as such. A well specced trx costs 90k+. Indeed, for the performance both on and off road, it is kind of a bargain. Relatively speaking
The majority of people who drive pickup trucks in America don’t use it as work utility vehicle. So the lack of charging infrastructure doesn’t really matter to most people who use electric pickup trucks as domestic vehicles.
This is one of the fun ones. But does Rich know about the slide out rack option for the tunnel + power source inside? People are going to do some stupid stuff with that and I'm looking forward to it.

It looks a lot better in person to be honest. I thought they looked really dumb too, until I saw one... There's a lot more detail in the headlights than there appears to be.. Kind of distracts you from the googly eye look that stands out in photos.

I remember when I first saw images of the SUV Rivian, my impression was "4Runner". Seeing the pickup in consumer hands has only cemented that. Maybe I'll be able to afford one with all the kinks sorted out by the time my 08' 4Runner starts giving up, assuming it ever will, which is debatable.

My grandmother's GMC Spring (El Camino thing) had speakers where the headrests should have been on the bench seat. I only temporarily owned an Chevy El Camino. Hope they make an electric version sometime. Companies keep building trucks into the air. Bring 'em back down low.
Nobody wants a low truck. And definitely don't want a car that has a bed. Well Camino, ranchero, Subaru Baja, and every other car truck has failed. They may steal some of the market from the Subaru outback from the group of rugged lesbians that buy them, but that's a tiny market pool to try to steal from.

Last time I went camping we were sleeping in our Subaru and everyone else had $200,000 RVs that cost who knows how much to fill up. My friend’s Ford pickup was even more than $85,000 and it eats gas and definitely doesn’t have a pullout kitchen.

BEVs make perfect sense for compact cars, not so much for heavy SUVs, Trucks. In those categories, Hybrids make more sense in efficiency. Even more now, that BEV are getting even more expensive, with supply chain shortages for battery production.

I wish ICE cars would keep improving, and Porsche would hurry up and mass produce e-fuel so ICE cars could run completely cleanly, and therefore could be legal in countries (and states such as California which are trying to outlaw the sale of new ICE cars) that are trying to save the planet by removing one of the greatest achievements of human history. If ICE cars ran clean, then auto manufacturers could continue increasing power output in ICE vehicles to meet and surpass that of BEVs.
Richard, I live near the Rivian manufacturing plant here in Normal, Illinois. The R1T (truck)is all I see coming out of the plant. Not one R1S (suv) has come out. So beat the hell out of it and push it past its limitations! Great video!

That's honestly crazy to me that you can't jack the truck up without removing parts of the skid plate! I guess the buyers of these things aren't the type to care about that though. Titanium would be much better.
Interesting the gfi tripped. I have had my Leaf plugged into a gfi for years with no problem. My brother borrowed the Leaf for a month and his gfi tripped 3 times. That would get really annoying waking up to a partially charged car.
That rating has nothing to do with the gfi tripping on a 12 amp load. GFI trips when the amperage going down the hot wire doesn’t match the amperage coming back on the neutral wire. This protects from electricity going through a person to ground. Which is what kills people. But other things can cause a gfi to trip, which is referred to as nuisance tripping.
@@chrisstearns10 well if you look at the bed of this truck, it has those curved beams that leave a large gap between the bed and tailgate. When you need to clean it, just life up the middle section between the tailgate and bed. In a normal truck, you have to kinda fight the bigger rocks back into the bed.
You know I love this channel and think it’s the best thing since sliced white bread (don’t hate on me that’s an actual saying.. I think?) but that pass through is one of the coolest uses of otherwise dead space so, why you hating on it Rich😂

That's honestly crazy to me that you can't jack the truck up without removing parts of the skid plate! I guess the buyers of these things aren't the type to care about that though. Titanium would be much better.

Interesting the gfi tripped. I have had my Leaf plugged into a gfi for years with no problem. My brother borrowed the Leaf for a month and his gfi tripped 3 times. That would get really annoying waking up to a partially charged car.

There are 15 amp and 20 amp receptacles.
That rating has nothing to do with the gfi tripping on a 12 amp load. GFI trips when the amperage going down the hot wire doesn’t match the amperage coming back on the neutral wire. This protects from electricity going through a person to ground. Which is what kills people. But other things can cause a gfi to trip, which is referred to as nuisance tripping.

@@chrisstearns10 well if you look at the bed of this truck, it has those curved beams that leave a large gap between the bed and tailgate. When you need to clean it, just life up the middle section between the tailgate and bed. In a normal truck, you have to kinda fight the bigger rocks back into the bed.

The cargo tunnel becomes very useful if you install the kitchen. I can definitely see the benefit there when truck camping.
Just got this thought now looking at the tunnel doors. What happens if you forget to close it or it pops open whilst driving? Could cause serious damage or hurt someone.
That is an interesting point. I wonder if they will eventually have to solve that with a sensor.
