This is the best Godfather movie essay I’ve seen and I’ve seen a lot! Great video
Wow, thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed :D
I wouldn´t say it´s the best, but it´s not bad
I appreciated her attention to lesser-discussed aspects of the film, like set and costume design.
The Room made me want to be a filmmaker
Fun fact: Lenny Montana (Luca Brasi) was so nervous about working with Marlon Brando that in the first take of their scene together, he flubbed some lines. Director Francis Ford Coppola liked the genuine nervousness and used it in the final cut. The scenes of Luca practicing his speech were added later.
Wow! Yeah im wondering why he's memorizing his lines.
Lmao that's amazing
Also, to add to your observation, in the "it's strictly business" scene, when Michael says he's going to kill them both, they show everyone laughing as they perceive his statement as absurd.
Then, the camera's on Tom Hagen's face, where we can see he is still hurt, wants to react but cannot because he just had a pretty intense argument with Sonny and now, even Michael is not taking his advice, that head movement he does, so subtle, so good...Then somewhat understands Mike's point.
That scene is a masterpiece and everyone is on top of their game.
This movie gets better with every viewing, in a league of its own.
I'm so obsessed with this movie that I can confidently say that I watched this movie more than 100 times, yet I have never noticed the 2 fishes on that window until this moment, great video, awesome details a big thumbs up
You’ve wasted 300 hours of your life watching this movie?
@@drewbuckland6557 He can do whatever he does with his life, I noticed the fish detail, Pixar movies like +100 times, Cars is the movie that I've watched most times in my life, I don't have the count but I think I've watched at least +100 times since I was a kid, maybe that's why it's my favorite movie of all time, but I also enjoy movies like The Godfather since I was a teenager, it's also one of my favorites.
While The Godfather isn’t a personal favorite of mine I can certainly appreciate its greatness. It really makes you feel like this is a lived in world with characters that have a long history you can believe in.
I watched it and I personally didn’t enjoy it but I know objectively it’s one of the greatest movies ever like how can all these people be wrong? I wanna give it another shot tho and I think I’ll like it it was a while aho
its not great . pretty boring.
@@DannyCosmos yeah well not every movie can have action sequences 24/7 lmfao
@@somewhatunbiasedtalks not asking for non stop action. interesting dialouge can be very interesting and make a great film. 12 angry men is all dialouge and never boring. godfather movies are boring as hell. i hated them
@@DannyCosmos just because you disliked something does not mean that it’s bad
This movie would be the greatest movie of all time if not for The Room.
I can't believe I'm the first one to like this comment. And to reply to it. That is naaht right! It is bullsheet!
Oh. Hi, Mark.
Literally the only movie you could have chosen that wouldn’t piss off the universe. Well played.
Troll 2 is way better than both combined.
The room? Which year was it released
Gone With The Wind has better actors, better story and a really better music
This is the best Godfather essay of all time. There are so many details that you picked up that I didn’t pick up and I am a person who picks up all those sort of details.
Next level essay. Bravo.
So glad i found this channel! I love the concise but still in depth style
I love the context in time given by this review. Thank you for this.
I love how detailed, structured and entertaining your reviews are. Keep it up ✌🏼
Thank you so much! Excited to come back soon!
I've been watching some Godfather videos lately since I don't have the time to rewatch the Trilogy.
Now TH-cam made me a recommendation, I couldn't refuse!
Great Vid! I've already noticed most of the details you mentioned and I realized I've missed some. Btw I really loved the way of your narration! Good Luck! 🖤
It is hands down the best movie of all time. I have watched it hundreds of times and still see something new each time. Excellent review.
It's so amazing!! Godfather 2 is next on my watch list! Thanks so much for the comment, I'm happy you liked it! :D
Godfather 2 really tests Michael as the Don.
@@AlyxaHellman Godfather 2 is almost as Great as first film. Both are Masterpieces of cinema
@@jasonkapeluch4653 Part 2 is better than the first, but the first is way more rewatchable
What a fantastic video! You covered so much ground and so many details. Much better than most other video essays on this masterpiece.
I’m Sicilian and I love how you called them “medieval villages!” It’s just so amusing to me, yet fascinating at the same time. We don’t call them villages. But yeah, love hearing people who aren’t Sicilian talk about Sicily. It’s interesting to see what others see or think about us and our region. Great video btw :)
Idk man, i call them villages just as well, they are certainly not towns or cities, but a small rural community
@@alessiobenvenuto5159 In realta hai ragione. Vuoldire nazione, ma tutti i miei amici e la mia famiglia usano paese per quasi tutto (non vuoldire chè è corretto però). Le città: paesi. I villaggi: paesi. Le nazioni: paesi. Percui in realta credo chè hai ragione tu. Però io non ho may sentito a nessuno usare la parola “villaggio” per un posto, e chiamando questi paesi “medieval villages” è cosí strano (almeno per me).

Ho scritto “may” per sbaglio. Sto perdendo l’Italiano più vivo in Inghilterra 😂
alyxa, a fantastic essay video. perfect job!
Great review Alyxa! You inspired me to finally start using my Letterboxd!
Great essay! Very well put together!
This essay is sheer brilliance... Perfect analysis of the godfather
This is the best review of The Godfather I've seen so far besides i like your narration style 👏👌💯
This has always been one of my favorite films. Really great job on this. I enjoyed your observations.
Great video. I honestly could have listened to more of the details you pointed out. I wish you nothing but success. Got a new subscriber.
I didn't believe that someone could have a unique perspective on the Godfather, but you managed to do it. Nice video.
Thank you so much!
This video was really well made! Well done!
Thank you so much! :D
Great review, Alyxa! Keep it up, I'll be looking for Godfather II! (you can't have one without the other.)
Promise I'll get to Godfather II soon! I'll be back :D Thank you for the nice comment!
Loved the review. Thank you
Thank YOU!
Sooooo freakin excited to see this in 4K in theaters this year!!!
on that La Motta fight promo...a trivia addition...the boxer was later portrayed, in a biopic, by Robert De Niro..who just two years after this movie would portray the younger Vito Corleone in The Godfather Part II.
Alyxa, I'm so glad you are a "detail-oriented psycopath." I really appreciated this wonderful review of the greatest movie of all time. Naturally I immediately ran the movie (which I've watched 25 times over the years). Thank you so much for doing this. Bravo.
beautifully edited and produced film! I’m doing a presentation on “The Godfather” for my film criticism class, I’m very excited because it’s my favorite movie!
I never noticed some of these observations thank you!
Terrific observation. Matches with mine on the dot on the Michael PERSONAL scene👍👍👍
Loved your observation!
Wow! I never noticed the fish in the scene where Brasi goes into the bar... but it's definitely on purpose. Amazing. The more I learn, the more I see what genius went into this movie.
loved this video :’) So excited for more future video essays !!!!
Thank youuu 🥺❤️
most films have plotholes flaws and bad writing...not godfather...its perfect screenwriting
Great review! ❤️
The ability of this particular movie to transport you to the Godfather universe is amazing... Somehow you don't watch the movie, but you live it..
Awesome video! Thanks!
Thanks to you, I now appreciate the art of movie-making.
❤️❤️
I’m in love with your voice!!
I first watched this film when I was 15 and it has greatly appreciated over the years. This film is about family and conflict and learning to admit when you're wrong before it's too late. It's a film about peace and what happens on the journey to secure it.
Great review
Thank you so much!
Love the film and your voice! 😊
Great job. i am movie fan. Loved your breakdown!
You're accent impression is adorable lol
The Godfather is probably my favorite movie of all time up there with Synecdoche, New York, The Shawshank Redemption. Great video by the way. 👏 ( I forgot to mention Casablanca is amazing as well)
I'll have to give Synecdoche a watch! I loved Shawshank. And thank you for watching! :D
Orson can you explain what makes this movie the best? What does it do better than every other movie?
I'll wait.
@@EMPERORSPROTECTION-TERRA4LIFE What makes this movie great, by far better than most are the performances, the cast, timeless tone, the story and how thought provoking and philosophical it is. It changed movies because of the portrayal of violence and changed the gangster genre but if you don't enjoy the film that is ok.
Godfather is definitely one of the greatest movies made and it's my favorite. Ur observations are amazing. I never noticed them. Have made observations on other scenes n dialogues.
You should watch raging bull, it's one of my favorite movies. It's about Jake LaMotta, the boxer in the poster that you pointed out. Made me think of that movie, seriously one of the best movies I've ever seen
I gave this three and a half stars on Letterboxd and my brother who watched this with me loved it more then me and told me to watch a review on this movie to change my mind
cool review
this Movie Teaches me why Cinema is about Telling Values is Uniq Ways.
So, when it comes to the titans of cinema, I usually see it boil down to Citizen Kane vs the Godfather. How do they stack up against each other?
The screen play and acting were superb,
As much as I love this film, and I do love it, I find it hard to believe that either sonny or anyone else would make a deal and side with the person he knows killed his father. So why would Solotzo ever believe his plan could work. Granted sonny was hot for the deal, but he wouldn’t be after he shot his dad.
I mean...Tom was literally trying to convince Sonny to hear the guy out, so it might have actually worked had Michael not been there with the corrupt cop earlier
I didn't realize the paraphrasing and improvisation going on. While Marlon was trying different methods he stays to the script the most[In the first scene for sure ].That's the theatre background. Also he liked the words he was given.
The Godfather opening and The Godfather 3 ending very powerful moments of my life.
I have friends of mine that say the Godfather is really good they just don’t understand why it’s the greatest movie of all time they said it’s not better than Shawshank Redemption
And they are correct
I've just watched The Godfather. the cinematography was brilliant. However, I found the actual story to be cliche, dated. The story is about a bunch of gangsters, I felt no empathy with any of the characters. it was difficult to remember who was who and their names. I just don't get it. What is so good about this movie? I mean, it's not a bad movie, I just don't know why it is a masterpiece.
You sold me the movie in less than 1 minute, even though I struggled to watch it for years
This is a great video! Unfortunately, I didn’t like The Godfather due to its pacing but I respect it. This isn’t a bad movie at all. Gosh, I wish I liked it more.
Well I respect your opinion, lots of old movies is slow but I enjoy them. Now movies is usually fast and straight to the point. Sometimes you have to appreciate the details in the movie for example 2001 a space odyssey, it's a slow movie but it's an absolute masterpiece
@@anderswong9196 actually my opinion on The Godfather has changed! It’s now a movie that I really really like!
@@nathanslay6342 Oh that's great! I saw your comment in why pulp fiction is the best movie too! I love it too 👌 it's so well put together! Tarantino nailed it 🤘
@@anderswong9196 space odesy is a film you trip on acid to. Not a piece of entertainment.
@@nathanslay6342 this is wholesome asf and idk y
Nice!
Just watched this for the first time last night. My husband is on a mission to educate me about movies I’ve avoided all my life, having grown up in nyc. This all started with the west side story lol
Honestly, I think the original one is better then the sequel
Exclltte! Grazii
This movie was nuts saw it first time yesterday and I missed a lot of the plot tho
What truly makes this the greatest movie ever is that if you discuss these technicalities of filmmaking, it's a masterpiece. If you discuss the plot and character writing, it's still a masterpiece. If you discuss it's storytelling, how it conveys thoughts and emotions to the audience, it's again a masterpiece. And no need to even talk about the acting performances. I say this thing that this movie does it all. It's closest to perfection that motion picture has gotten. There might be better technical masterpieces, there might be better written movies, there might be better examples of storytelling but to do it all masterfully in one movie.. I can't think of any other movie quite at this level.
Shawshank redemption is better
@@jothishprabu8
Lol. You got to be kidding me. Shawshank is just another enjoyable movie with some feel good factor on the side. It's not even in question, not even in top 100 for fuck sake..
@@jothishprabu8 Shawshank does nothing better Godfather.
@@aliensconfirmed3498 Shawshank is a masterpiece.
@@LucasAlves-gw3ic
Well I won't readily accept it as masterpiece. May be I will need concrete definition of the word masterpiece for that. Some movies are so well made that they're without a doubt something I can call masterpiece but Shawshank wasn't just that good. Don't get me wrong.. it was good or very good but I am not sure I can call it masterpiece.
I've seen it several times but I never spotted any of those details.
I watched The Godfather for the first time last night I’m Dolby Cinema and it was very interesting.
I’m in love with this movie thank you Coppola

Great review, Alyxa. Please check out our three-part web series, "The Goddaughter", which is about the second daughter of Michael Corleone.
In the very last scene of movie when kay and connie shocks Michael when they entered the room, I believe he was smoking a doobie in the starting, As connie leaves he continues to light a cigarette later, which appears very different. Idk could be something else.
Top Notch, please keep doing the classics reviews(DO GODFATHER2 PLZ THX), and think about maybe modern classics(PARASITE MAYBE??)?
IMO your style of review have good niche on youtube, you got great potential to grow to at least 500k easy.
YOO I WAS HERE BEFORE THE ALGORITHM PICK YOU UP
Thank you so so much! I will definitely consider modern classics and YES! I want to review Godfather 2 soon! :D
best picture, actor, and writing????? goat stuff
Can I fall in love with you just by listening to your voice and the way of speaking.
I'm sure I have fallen
Felt like a fashion review
It is the best because it is and it will always will be
Beautiful movie
Fantastic insight lovely to have a female observation on the greatest film of all time . Respect x
4:58 😅😂 god damn it
The Godfather is a Masterpiece!!!
Another reason why The Godfather is the best movie (maybe one of the best movie, either this or Citizen Kane is #1) because the whole movie encapsulates the mafia/gangster genre. While Bonnie and Clyde came out in the 60s and is a gangster movie, it isn't as influential than The Godfather as the movie influenced many gangster movies in the future.
Watch the Godfather's great analysis on my channel!
Top 5 of all time for sure. Thought part 2 edged it.
It’s not
It really is the best film ever no doubt
Italians 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Hm.... there are scenes from Part 2....

The Godfather 🐐
Would it be a cop out to suggest Jaws is the greatest film ever.
I mean the theme alone can clear out an indoor pool in no time.
i wouldnt say greatest

to each their own. it's always gon be debatable
After all the hype I've decided to watch the movie in 4k. I think it's good, but far from being the greatest movie of all time.
❤
Your take is cute but also highly intelligent.
I love the way you narrate so casual and pure natural and seems you really enjoy doing your craft. Now why did you stop creating such brilliant content?

Marlin Brando is the Godfather. No actor could have portrayed the Godfather like him. Sure there were other great actors...Duvall...but without Brando...he memorialized it forever.
I’m still salty about Pacino never winning an Oscar for Michael!!
