    Kinda bothered now you seem to never acknowledge the issues with these bikes, a quick glance at the comments on any video will give you a good idea of how people really feel about them.
    I guess that’s how the bike TH-cam is nowadays, never holding the companies that give you a press trips and early sneak peaks to account…

    The Svartpilen is killing itself with that price. It needs to be priced well below the MT-09.

    • @LowQualityPigeon
      @LowQualityPigeon 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      True. Mt-09 is already killing it in the market. Even among the journalists almost all of them praised the bike heavily. To complete with MT-09 they need to price it lower for sure to atleast have some secondary choice if someone is not into mt-09.

  • @exothermal.sprocket

    Neither. If it's the 790 or 890 engines, neither. I cannot guarantee whether the engines are going to burn through a set of camshaft lobes by 12,000 Km or not. And if I don't service every last thing through the KTM dealer according to KTM's service schedule, they will probably deny any warranty coverage and I'll be left footing the bill. It's a shame, because the 1290 engine has been bulletproof, the 790 and 890? Nope.

    • @youtubed9695
      @youtubed9695 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      890 is fine and current 790 engine is too.. the original 790 engines definitely had issues.. I should know I blew mine up at 130+mph lol but I've got the 890R and it's been on at least 10 track days and runs perfectly

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@youtubed9695 That's not satisfying enough for someone about to throw down 10 to 12 grand of their hard earned money. While I might not be perfectly reasonable in asking KTM to turn out Japanese reliability and longevity, I do think it is reasonable to ask KTM to produce a valvetrain that isn't dying long before anything else wears out or dies in their engines.
      All I see is anecdotes of people's experience online. I don't have numbers. KTM isn't putting out bulletins or service notices or recalls. KTM isn't giving its customer base the satisfaction of buying their products knowing that they will last beyond 12-15k and not need a top end replacement.
      Sure there are examples of people running them longer without issue. Sure there are examples of of those using them in racing. That's not good enough. That's not going to tell me what the probability is that if I purchased a 790 or 890 motor, I'd not be peeling out 5-6 grand after 15k miles, or have every last service interval done to the book at an expensive KTM dealer to avoid being denied potential warranty compensation.
      By contrast, I never think about issues with Japanese bikes. I've purchased a good number of new Jap bikes and broken them in, did my own service, and never once had an issue. Mind you, mileage wasn't high before I traded or sold.

      @@exothermal.sprocket well ktm warrantied my bike and I paid £11500 for an 890R nearly 3 years ago.. its been amazing.. ducatis are alot more expensive and they break down more than anything.. my mates triumph 765 has had problem after problem and another mate gave up on his s1000rr due to issues.. in my experience my ktm has been more reliable than all my mates bikes and yet mine gets thrashed so much more.. you can't say ktm are unreliable just because people say it in comments section.. most of them probably can't even ride lol 😂

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@youtubed9695 That's not satisfying anything I've already addressed. It's all anecdotes. Means something to you, doesn't mean anything of satisfaction to me. What percentage of 790 and 890 bikes has KTM sold that have broken down in rather unacceptable ways? Oil leaks, camshaft lobes made of marshmallows, other problems? To tell me yours has been fine doesn't negate the fact you can find videos of people with their engines torn down and all sorts of carnage revealed on the insides, or their personal correspondence to KTM with returned letters, and warranty headaches and all the rest. Some of them weren't even aware their cams were already dissolving until the service department called them on the phone with the news.
      Hard core numbers would satisfy me. 12k dollars isn't something to gamble away.

    Love the svartpilen. I'm going to be cleaning up garage in the next couple of years, so I can pickup a used 801. However, I will have to closely compare the market price for the 790 or the 890 at the time. Always hated the ktm look, but the 790/890 design is starting to grow on me. I would however want to tone down the orange a bit and replace with black. The headlight looks alright to me.
    I would also wait 2-3 years for them to work out the kinks.

Would not buy again for the all the troubles I've gone through. KTM really needs to work to improve the reliability of its product. In the market now there are strong competitors like MT-09/XSR, Triumph Speed Twin, Kawasaki Z900RS, CB etc...really needs to pull up its quality.

    Engineering will have to get far better to appeal to the North American target market which is clearly the goal here for both as there is a massive War going on in a space *("Ukraine")* that is using motorcycles as logistical effort and to an unsurprisingly ineffective result. Powertrain is not nearly robust enough and engines not nearly enough low end torque to provide for the required work effort. Need spare tires, rims, space for hooking up baggage or even a trailer plus proper outfitting of the rider list is endless at the moment although at least they have product. #Buell starting to suddenly make an appearance in the North America domestic product now as well. Might see a return of #victory_motorcycle as well.

    To be fair. Has motobob ever acknowledged the shortcomings associated with long term ownership of any bike he’s made videos about? Atleast not in these shorter comparison/first impression style vids. Now, if KTM actually acknowledged the issue and he never says anything in the longer form podcast style videos he puts out then I’d be suspicious but why people are questioning his integrity on these types of videos is a little beyond me.
