Awesome haul Sharmon, nine Rose Murex, wow! Looked like a great trip. I spent the morning collecting shark teeth with my daughters in South Guana Reserve. the both got about 30 each and I got 10. I lost a diamond in my ring on Keewaydin and I've since had the ring fixed. Now that it's all shiny and sparkly, I don't want to wear it in the ocean! I had bought a "fake" one that is really quite uncomfortable and I forget to put the rubber ones on sometimes 😃 I am sorry to hear you were awake from pain but I am so glad I can get you to think of something else, at least for 30 minutes or so. I hope you were able to get some rest. I myself had a wonderful sleepy Sunday and I'm ready to take on the week!

There is nothing like Kice! I have never heard of anyone finding that many rose murexes in one trip! I feel like the cones used to be more “rare” and my last visit to Kice on the day before you, I came home with 18! That doesn’t even take into account how many live ones I encountered. Every single rose murex I found was still occupied so I didn’t collect any. 😢 These storms really change things for the animals and thus the patterns of what you find on the beach change too.
There really isn't anything like Kice is there? Kice was rather lacking in the cone department, but that tropical storm Debby really kicked things off and the storms keep coming. No giant shell piles, but I'll search through that muck for the treasures any day!

My toes are still killing me from hitting every stump possible😂. The scratch on the forehead is finally under control. We loved finding the “cone zone” and all the rose murex’s. We were out literally the 22nd,23rd, 24th, and 25th. The most exhausting trip to date 😍😂 got my steps in for sure
I have NEVER seen a live top snail! Pretty cool! And a live turid??! Interesting that you found a live PA lucine without any periostricum. Almost all the hinged ones I find up here have that. Nope. Love, love, love the rose murex. We were on Sanibel a week before Milton and saw a gazzilon live banded tulips. I also found my first alphabet cone and ended up coming home with four of them. I just bought muriatic acid to clean all my shells with. I do need to find your video showing how to do that and what shells I shouldn't use the acid on. I dont want to ruin any of them. went to Kice today with Ali's (unguided) tour....we first went to the sandbar, and then Kice. found critters including a huge seastar, banded tulips and alphabet cones. still managed to collect lots and lots of shells!

I was watching post hurricane shelling on Florida beach walks. They were finding so many large tulip shells but they had small hand trowels and were gently digging. You said you don’t dig, maybe you should start?

What a smart cookie you are! They are on Kice, but they like to hang out on the bay side of the island, so you would find them not on the gulf side where I am normally shelling, they would be on the bayside, the other side of the island. I hope that makes sense. They like to hang out in mud. The shells are SO satisfying to clean 🥰

Can you recommend locations for good shelling for someone who needs a walker or wheelchair. Are there any good beaches for accessibility. I can drag my walker around but can’t get very far. I do have a family who can go anywhere they want but I’d love to be close to them. I’m just concerned about locations that aren’t damaged by past hurricanes.
2 locations come to mind. Delnor Wiggings in Naples has parking that pretty much lines the beach so parking, transportation and the beach are all very close and accessible. Lovers Key has beach wheelchairs that you can rent! Watching too many naval history videos and so I guessed wrong about the type of shelling…
Question: In some places there are a bunch of black things sticking up. Are those roots? are they stiff or flexible? I'm curious about how difficult it is to get through those. OK, that was a couple of questions lol
They are old roots that are not all that flexible. Kice Island is not easy to get around and I stub my toes a few times every trip!
I don’t see how you can shell and keep from falling over those stumps while filming fingers crossed
LOL - believe me, I still stumb my toes all the time. I choose my heavier beach shoes for this island!
Slip on water shoes work the best.
Can you recommend locations for good shelling for someone who needs a walker or wheelchair. Are there any good beaches for accessibility. I can drag my walker around but can’t get very far. I do have a family who can go anywhere they want but I’d love to be close to them. I’m just concerned about locations that aren’t damaged by past hurricanes.
2 locations come to mind.
Delnor Wiggings in Naples has parking that pretty much lines the beach so parking, transportation and the beach are all very close and accessible.
Lovers Key has beach wheelchairs that you can rent! You would need to park and get to the trolley, but once you are at the beach, there are beach wheelchairs available for use: th-cam.com/video/39TKDgO5xEQ/w-d-xo.html

We are prohibited from removing coral from the beach, so any coral that is found should stay where you found it.
