Thanks for your unbiased review Ken, this is what youtube was always about. You confirmed my initial thoughts. This is truly bang for buck. And if anyone's worried about longevity, if a manufacturer's offerring 3 years warranty on a PC monitor, they're confident.
Great review thanks! All the reviews I could find seemed sponsored or have poor technical knowledge. I already purchased the monitor though, hopefully it should arrive tomorrow, but this review gives me confidence that I made a decent choice.
Thank you for your kind words! It is indeed a great choice, its not perfect by all means, but it is as perfect as a ultra wide monitor at this price range can be. 😀👍
@@kenspchardware9867 Really? lol! I can't find it anywhere though. Tbh, the extra 21Hz would not make a difference to me if that is the only spec change. Also, I tested with the DP cable and get the same issue as you did with the BIOS screen. I am using a GTX1060. So definitely an issue there but otherwise I am all round happy with the monitor. Even if i did miss out on an extra 21Hz boost!!
Sorry I missed your message. Yeah glad to hear that too I feel the same way as you about the monitor haha. It's good to know I'm not the only one with the problem of accessing the BIOS screen, thanks!!!
the bios not accessible thru dp cable is an issue with windows 11 not being compatible with your gpu. I've contacted nvidia customer service about this and it's still an ongoing issue up until this day. Quick fix is to go back to windows 10.
Owned it for 1 month and decided to sell it off because I am unable to get use to the contrast and washed out colours of a VA panel as compared to an IPS one. I guess, as with many other things, buying a good monitor still takes effort. Honest review videos like yours are hard to find but even then your expectations and level of tolerance may still be different from ours, thus, it is good to hear your honest review and still check out the actual monitor before deciding to click buy, ever so conveniently, on the website. Thanks Ken! Keep up the good work! And may more honest and genuine reviews like yours continue to populate rather than those paid/sponsored ones. Cheers.
Thanks for the encouragement! Sorry to hear that you're not satisfied with the monitor, have you tried colour calibrating the monitor with a tool like Datacolor Spyder? I tried calibrating the monitor before without it and I could never really get close to the calibrated settings by the software, maybe my skills are just not up to par but for me, the Spyder 5 really makes a big difference. If you're really sensitive to the colour and brightness output of a monitor it's a tool that you definitely need to get. Overall, my calibrated X340 feels like about 85% - 90% accurate vs. an IPS panel, and that's a trade off I'm willing to accept due to my work not requiring me to go a full 100% colour accuracy. In return I get the large screen size, QHD resolution with the low price, it's always a balancing act isn't it? A large IPS monitor with high refresh rate does exist in the market, just that the price would be over the roof compared to this X340 😅...
@@kenspchardware9867 yeah, totally Ken. It is definitely a trade off between refresh rate, color and some bleeding between both type. Haha I was too lazy with the calibration cos, like you, I am a noob and only got to know about the difference when I got the Prism+ monitor and was kinda affected by the color and quality of a VA panel that I started reading up about it as compared to an IPS panel, which is also how I stumbled onto your video. But I give Prism+ the props for their prompt and helpful support after sales. In the end, just wanna go back to my comfort zone and chose a 4K IPS panel with a measly 60hz refresh rate. Thankfully, I am not a hardcore gamer, so the refresh rate and response time are things I am willing to sacrifice. 😂🙏🏻
Hi Ken, Thank you for the great review. Just wondering if you would recommend this monitor for primarily working on MS Office and windows based applications such as usual office software. Games and videos are my secondary concern. Thanks for the help. Regards
Hi Ken. Is there any chance you are going to do a review on the PRISM+ Q43-QE? Tried to find a review on IT, but unfortunately there are none. Really am hoping that you will do the review... subed
Unfortunately no, I'm not a rich youtuber who has a fund to buy these products for review, but a quick search on Q43-QE seems like it is very similiar to Samsung's TU7000 to TU8000 android TVs, so maybe you could research from there? Sorry for not being of much help, here is one example I found: th-cam.com/video/bBjSB1O8aAQ/w-d-xo.html
Hey man, a fellow owner of a glorious X340 pro 144hz here as well what is that arm you're using there? i'm thinking of getting the North Bayou H100, any thoughts? I'm using a Ikea Linnmon table by the way.
Ahhh the Linnmon, I just changed from the Linnmon to this table, but let me get back to it in a moment.. I'm using a Loctek arm currently, based on what I see from shopee, the Bayou might be better in terms of adjustability, especially up down tilt where the VESA mount is located. Because of the monitor's weight, I have to tighten the tilt adjustment to the max because the monitor will slowly tilt downwards if it's loose. Spec wise it's similiar to Loctek so, I'd also go for Bayou H100 since it's much cheaper. The thing you should concern about Linnmon table though, isn't the dimensions, but the weight at the center of the table. I put my old CPU + a 24" monitor which weighs roughly 8 to 10Kgs on the Linnmon, and over time the center actually bended and the long & thin wood ply at the side actually came out. It was still usable but really ugly. If you're gonna mount the X340 on Linnmon, you need to mount it at the corners nearest to the legs, that should prevent the table from bending! =)
@@kenspchardware9867 Yeah man i did some research on that and noticed it to, i i actually have my rig on a separate table and planning to mount it to the side of the table, i just bought the NB100 from Lazada this morning, fingers crossed i get it by tomorrow :D
bought one in January, what you said about it being bias to Cool colors is definitely what I experienced too. It was literally "too bright" for me, strained my eyes. I switched all my windows to "Dark Mode" because of this. Also thanks for reminding us to manually change the screen refresh rate. I also want to add that full screen on netflix stretches the video sideways. Whereas if i turn off "full screen" but stretch the netflix window to cover the full screen, the aspect ratio's are usually just fine. This I find quite annoying, because it shows that the default aspect ratio of the videos can work, but for some reason setting it to "full screen" on netflix screws it up.
Ohh thats interesting.. I didn't try Netflix yet on my desktop, my guess is that if you don't use the full screen mode the browser is on responsive mode so by resizing the window it'll work for our ultra wide screen. Whereas clicking the full screen button probably defaults to 16:9 aspect ratio and occupy the whole screen, their website designers probably haven't account for ultra wide monitors yet. I have an idea, why not you use the F11 shortcut to make the browser full screen? It should probably still retain the responsive resizing of the video. I'll try that over the weekend when I'm back home but if you have any success in the meantime, pls do let us know! 😃👍
@@kenspchardware9867 Thanks for the suggestion! Just tried it and it didnt really work. To be fair, it doesnt happen with every video. I was watching certain movies, only then i noticed that something looked wrong. The movie i vividly remember is the 2018 Robin Hood film. However, most of the series I watch do it fine.
Hmm, I just tried out Robin Hood and various other movies, the netflix full screen & the F11 is working fine for me. For the TV shows that was in 16:9 format it just has two black bars on the side like TH-cam, it doesn't stretch to fill the full screen. Maybe does it have to do with the browser you're using? I'm using Chrome btw...
Will the 144 Hz compatible with laptop HDMI port with gtx 860m? Since you can't plug directly to your GPU HDMI port. The HDMI port might be from the processor and not from GPU since it's a laptop.
Hmm, great question, I am not sure of that because I currently don't have a laptop to test that, my main setup is my desktop and a Microsoft surface tablet when I'm on the go. Having that said, in the past I have connected my old laptop to 1080p monitors to play games like Dota, and it played really well without lag. So I'm thinking that if laptop HDMI are dependent on the processor instead of GPU, the games wouldn't run as smoothly. Maybe you can test yours by connecting your laptop to a TV? The other issue is that I think the GTX 860m might not be able to support up to 144Hz, probably the same as my GTX960 at around 100 Hz. Do let me know what your findings are, thanks! =D
Hmmm, good question, I've noticed that the X340 Pro's price has crept up about RM200 since I bought it, but it does come with additional 21 Hz refresh rate and a height adjustable stand... But the problem is that does Xiaomi offer a similar 1-to-1 warranty exchange within 3 years? The last I checked it only has international warranty because they don't have a local presence serving customers who bought their monitors. That's the problem with Xiaomi, their products are too diverse, and that's what made me chose Prism+ because of their specialization. The thing that might change my mind though, is that local retailers have begun to push back against Prism+ and I've seen similar spec-ed monitors selling cheaper than the X340 PRO. It's no longer true that Prism+ X340 Pro is the cheapest 34" curved monitor in Malaysia, I saw a Samsung 32" 4K 60Hz monitor sold by a reputable retailer at a cheaper price. That might be enough to sway me towards the 4k bandwagon😍 . In the end there's just a lot of variables to consider if we want to get the best deal, but I certainly didn't regret my decision as the X340 is still plenty capable. Just that the market conditions are moving so fast that my 3-month-old review video might already be obsolete! 🤣
@@kenspchardware9867 thanks for the feedback Ken! there's also this gigabyte 34" at the same price range. will probably put on hold my plans to get one as the market moves fast.
Glad to help. My suggestion would be to wait for 11.11 when there's a really big sale and the retailers would probably be desperate to clear this year's stocks 🤑
Hi Ken! Can i ask where did you get the vesa mount plate to fix your monitor stand? i bought a 3rd party monitor arm and it didnt have the vesa mount converter for this monitor...
Hi, hmm that's weird, because I remember that the x340 pro came with 4 long screws to mount to the flat Vesa plate that came with my monitor arm. There are quite a few Vesa adaptors but without knowing the shape of your monitor arm it's hard for me to determine which suits best. I think it's best you contact the monitor arm manufacturer for advise.
Did you experience any Black Smearing that is usually present in all VA monitor panels out there? (Usually very obvious when looking at text). Figured that you might notice it or not since you do a lot of MS Excel work.
Is it? You gotta check how much the recommended weight their arc stealth can handle. I bought the Loctek DLB851, which is a more expensive model that is rated to handle up to 9kg if I remember correctly. But even so, I have to tighten the tilt adjustment (facing up / down) real tight for it to hold the monitor in place. The other adjustments work just fine
twitter.com/KensPropBlog/status/1397381167091916803?s=20 I've put the datacolor results here, not so sure whether it's what you need, sorry i'm not that well versed in colour calibration as I just let the Spyder 5 do all the job =D
Thanks bro, for this honest review, appreciate this over tons of sponsored review all over YT. Btw, got some questions need your clarification: 1. Naturally VA panels, compared to TN and IPS, are having advantage on their contrast and color re-production. Colors are more favorable, though might not be accurate, and the true black like OLED without light leakage like IPS...correct me if i'm wrong. But it seem like some ppl critics on its washed out color and displays...is it really worse than IPS monitor huh? really have obvious washed out and bad black color presentation? 2. Regarding that 1ms response time...i think that's not GTG 1ms la...VA panel's common issue of ghosting effect exist on this model? is that 144hz make this ghosting effect better than usual VA panel? playing FPS game like CS GO does have obvious ghosting effect? 3. Saw review from other platforms saying dead pixels are quite common problem...does your unit comes with it? and ppl say it's build quality feel cheap and not sturdy, is that true?
Hi, thanks for the encouragement! Sorry for the late reply cuz this last week was super hectic... 1. I read some articles online that VA panels are the superior one to IPS in terms of colour reproduction and contrast, but I feel that there's a lot of confusion here, myself included. I personally feel that my old Dell IPS monitor is more superior in sharpness, contrast and colour, only that the refresh rate is low. But the difference isn't too big, I'd say it's a very subjective + 5% to +10% better, this VA panel isn't really bad. Only for certain "Dark" movies like Batman Vs Superman the shadows really suffer and I can't really see anything much in certain scenes. 2. no obvious ghosting effect i can detect in CS GO, and uh sorry i'm not that advanced to know whats GTG response rate 😅. Maybe you could share with everyone? 3. I have no dead pixels on my monitor, as for build quality, hmm I have no complaints about it. It doesn't creak when I adjust the monitor arm, everything's pretty much plastic... not so sure on how high of a build quality to compare with, aside from my old monitors. If I had to pick, I'd say the monitor buttons really need to be improved, but it's not like I use the buttons everyday so that's fine. I guess the overall experience of ownership really comes down to the buyer himself. I am not someone who babies my stuff and count every imperfection, but rather more enjoys the time using them. My computer table that I bought from Lazada had a few huge bumps and scratches on the legs... Granted some may feel that's enough to warrant a return but for me, mehhh... I'll just put in a review and move on, it's not like the table is completely unusable. 😄
Hi Ken, Here is my sharing, I was having the same issue that not showing bios by sing GTX 1080 with Display port cable. However it shows the bios after I change to RTX 3070 ti (by using same display port cable)
Sharpness isn't an issue, the figures will show fine as the numbers are in black, as long as the colour is in contrast against the white background it'll be fine. The issue will be however the when the white background comes together with similiar colours: light grey, light yellow, light blue, etc. So if you imagine selecting a cell and it's highlighted in light grey, you'll have a hard time seeing which cell was selected and the grid lines can barely be seen. To solve this, you'll need to adjust the colour towards the warmer side by dialing up % of Red, or dialing down Green & Blue, I think.
It should work right, as long as it has a hdmi or a display port... again I don't have any Mac products to test it though, sorry. Maybe you can ask their official channels
@@kenspchardware9867 Bit late here but I checked with Prism and for what it's worth, they said that their moniotors are compatible with all Apple devices.
Brilliant review, Ken. May I know your opinion on the severity of motion blur in first person shooters that require fast movements/twitches. Is it noticeable, barely noticeable, or negligible. I am asking because I was thinking of buying the Huawei MateView GT, and one of the only downsides was the motion blur when making fast mouse twitches in games like Apex Legends, CSGO, and such.
Mine is not the arc stealth arm, is a 3rd party arm. Instructions would vary across different monitor arms but, just remember to fix yours at the edge of the table near the tables legs. If you fix it on the center, the table might bend.
Yeah price wise & specs it's pretty much similiar, except that the philips has 100 Hz refresh rate while the Prism+ X340 Pro has 144 Hz. If the added USB docking and the other features mostly catered for laptops or multi devices are essential to you, then by all means go for it. For me, the defining feature was the 144Hz, and the 1 to 1 exchange warranty. I only plug in to my desktop and I mostly try to go wireless so the philips actually didn't appeal to me. 😀
whoa that's great! i'm searching on info for whether Ultrawide TVs are supported by PS4s, some user in Quora said: "PS4 does not support ultrawide monitors. If you use an ultrawide monitor on the PS4 then either there will be no image in the far borders or the image will have lost the correct aspect ratio and appear stretched." But the more pressing issue is: "Curved monitors also commonly have a vertical pixel resolution of 1440p which isn’t supported by the PS4. A regular PS4 or PS4 Slim can only output at 720p or 1080p, while the PS4 Pro can output at 720p, 1080p or 2160p (4k). As 1080p cannot scale easily to 1440p then the picture will look poor quality on a 1440p monitor. 1080p scales well to 2160p, which is why 1080p looks fine on a 16:9 2160p 4k display but not on 1440p." So i think for now PS4 and5 is still best not played on 1440p...
Okay, so basically it works, but streched out, both FHD and UHD setting on the PS4 Pro, sorry i dont have a fat or slim version of the PS4 nor a PS5 🙏🏾
sure, what settings do you want to know? Brightness, contrast, the RGB Colour settings? But need to take note that the calibration might be different for each user because the Spyder 5 actually reads the room's light intensity and recommends the correct brightness settings. The settings recommended for me is Brightness: 56%, Blacklevel 68%, Contrast 50%. I only needed to adjust the brightness levels during the calibration process. The RGB settings inside the monitor is maintained at default 50% after my datacolor calibration, the software itself applies it from the GPU side so I can't find out what is the exact RGB values that the software uses.
Hi Ken, I am considering this monitor. Would you happen to know if what would happen if my graphics card doesn't support the full 1440 resolution? Any advice is appreciated.
What's your graphics card model? Depending on how old the GPU may be it might help me get a good context on the outcome. Generally from my experience, for windows based work it doesn't affect too much. I've had my almost 2 decade old laptop connect to 1080p monitors and it displays just fine, only that the hardware may be lagging when using excel or browsing the internet. But then it comes to movies and games its a whole different ball game. I think displaying shouldn't be a problem, but running it smoothly might be... 😅
How is the x340pro power cord looks like? got any adapter? Also, what is the actual response time of this since it is 1ms mprt? it didtn write out the gtg
The power cord for Malaysia is just a normal 3 pin plug power cord without an adapter, just like the one that connects to the CPU Power Supply Unit. So, easy to replace if needed. Using the Blur Buster's test, I measured a MCR Ratio of 1088, Persistence 0.9ms (MPRT) at 110Hz, 89 pixels per frame & 9790 Pixels per sec. I think my GPU limitation at 110Hz may have affected the results in a bad way... or I don't really know how to measure it, sorry! I'm just a casual gamer so the response time doesn't bother me at all haha.
Hey Ken, great review. Would you recommend this monitor for work purpose to increase productivity? Is it suitable to use ultrawide curve for work? Or ultrawide flat would be better? Thanks!
Thanks!!! Yeah definitely I do recommend it for productivity. After calibrating it to the warmer side it'll be easier on your eyes, and the widescreen is really like a big canvas which you can scatter your software anywhere you like. I don't really need to split screen or anchor the windows perfectly; I just open 2 spreadsheets and a browser which works just fine for me. When I do video editing or 3d design I can set my editing software at 3 quarters of the screen and leave 1 quarter for a youtube tutorial. It really worked wonders for me 😀 Whether if it's flat or curved, after using it for almost 9 months, I pretty much got used to the curvature and it feels very natural to look at a curved screen (it was quite weird at first). Maybe it's because my eyes need to refocus less when looking at the far edges. However, I don't feel there's too much of a difference compared to a flat screen, but then I need to compare them side by side to know for sure...
@@kenspchardware9867 Great review Ken! Im also more to the productivity side. How about if the Prism+ put against Xiaomi Mi curved 34 inch monitor? Any thoughts? Can you help me to decide? Thanks!
Hi Ken, I just got mine. It came with a DP cable. My Mac HDMI port is not a DP port. So I can't connect and use the free sync. If you are using free sync with the monitor, can you share how and what adaptor you use to connect the monitor and your PC port so that u can use the free sync ?>
I'm not sure whether HDMI or DP cable affects freesync, I think both are able to use freesync. If the cables do affect, I think it's probably due to the cables speed not being high enough, therefore I'm using a Premium High Speed HDMI cable. Freesync in X340 PRO has to be turned on via the monitor's Menu: Home > Other > FreeSync (Adaptive Sync) > On In any case I couldn't test whether Freesync is working or not becuz I'm limited by my GPU, it couldn't support high enough refresh rates for the pixel shearing to be seen. Hopefully GPU prices will go back to normal soon...😢
I'm using a Premium High Speed HDMI cable, it is able to support up to a maximum 144Hz. Higher refresh rates need a grade higher, I've pasted the link in the description, and you can google for the official HDMI certifications. Many normal display port cables are also able to support up to 144Hz but I think for older generation graphics card, somehow I can't get into BIOS using DP cable. As for the monitor calibration, basically there are 2 ways: 1. Manual: You'll need to adjust the brightness, contrast, Red, Green, & Blue levels in the monitor manually, until your eyes are able to look at the monitor comfortably and all the items appear correctly. There are many contrast & colour calibration images used by photographers that you can use to calibrate your monitor: images.app.goo.gl/KEqCutBACbpvWfps5 If you are using your monitor for non-work related things then this should be enough. 2. Software: I use the Datacolor Spyder 5 to calibrate my monitor, it is a light sensor that I place on the monitor and its software automatically calibrates the monitor and loads it up everytime I start my computer. It's quick and easy, and a must have for people who do design / photography / videography, to ensure that the colour & brightness in our work is reflected accurately.
@@benjaminchai9653 You're welcome! I bought the cable just by walking into one of the IT stores in Digital Mall. Most of the IT stores do carry them, just need to tell them what monitor refresh rates you need to support and they'll let you know.
I'm running the monitor on a GTX 960 because GPU prices now are so ridiculous I can't buy a new one yet, my GTX 960 only supports a maximum of 110Hz so the monitor is limited by my GPU.
Well, the P438 is about 44% more expensive than X340 PRO, with almost all the specs being superior, and it's an IPS panel. It really isn't a fair comparison with X340 because normally we wont compare a 44" with a 34" inch monitor, I think +/- 5 inches is the max we normally go. Besides the P438 not being a curved monitor, I think the biggest difference is the aspect ratio, with it being at 32:9 ratio is much wider than it is tall, so I'm guessing that for youtube videos at full screen, the black side bars will be double the amount from 21:9 ratio? And weirdly if you watch a cinematic movie at full screen, I don't see how it can avoid having two black bars at the side to maintain the aspect ratio. But I can't confirm this, maybe someone who has experience with 32:9 monitors can chip in? checkout this thread about 32:9 ratios for movies, this guy really explained it well: www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/bu8x95/329_feature_film/epid95o?context=3 Besides that, the second most surprising comparison is that the P438 is a 1080p FHD monitor, not QHD. While usage wise it isn't that much of a difference, but at that pricing for a 1080p monitor is abit hard for me to swallow. I would have gone for a 4K monitor at a smaller size and that would blow me away more than the wide screen estate 🤣.
Hi Derek, welcome! I suspect that the Gigabyte G34WQC has the exact same samsung panel with Prism+ as they share the identical specs, down to the look of the bezels. But I can't be sure as Gigabyte doesn't disclose who is the manufacturer of that monitor's panel, but price wise I think Prism+ has a slight advantage maybe?
@@kenspchardware9867 thanks a lot, you have valid points. Prism+ seems to be very strategic on their products. Their provided monitor stand seems minimalist and smart; they seems to have done their great job in market research before diving into this intense market. Thanks it appears that Prism+ is the way to go (price vs specs ratio winner) , and especially still replying my messages (many TH-camrs don't reply messages, 😆).
yup you're right! 7 months using the X340 PRO and it's still going strong, no problems so far and it's really great for productivity use. So you won't be wrong getting either Gigabyte or the X340 =) And you're most welcome! Thanks for watching my video! 😁
@@kenspchardware9867 entering two months of using my X340 Pro as recommended by you. Hahaha.. satisfied as ever. Though the brand is still new and information are pretty scarce and people are usually afraid of unknown stuff. Their logic just wouldn't comprehend. :D But I'm still very glad that I choose to buy this monitor during the 9.9 this year.
Well as I said in my other comment, I can't test Gsync because my GTX 960 GPU isn't enough to support high resolution games to make the pixel shearing visible. Which means, I can't run a high enough resolution at a high enough refresh rate of a AAA game title to make pixels tear and therefore test whether GSync is working when its on. I tried tomb raider and the game simply won't run. Maybe in the future when GPU prices have normalized then I can buy a new GPU to test out the GSync, sorry.
i'm using a Loctek DLB851, there are tons of brands out there. I think as long as you use an arm that can withstand the weight it should be fine. I just bought an arm that can support up to 10+ KG just for added safety.
Hmm, I don't think it would be best to decide which GPU to go for based on the monitor. It would be better to decide based on what you use it for. Do you use it for media and movies? Any gtx or rtx would be good. 1440p gaming? If you don't set at max settings even gtx cards are okay. For 3d design? Rtx or quadro cards. While I think the monitor choice mainly affects the refresh rate and aspect ratio we see, the rest (quality, rendering time etc) would highly depend on usage and personal preference. Maybe you can share what would you use the gpu for?
Well in that case any low end GPUs can work for you because non-media related software are not graphics intensive, the GPU's main task is to render 3D images and textures so if your usage doesn't involve those, any small GPU would work just fine. If you're gonna open many programs might as well spend the money on 16Gb of RAM instead 😊
@@kenspchardware9867 ive been googling about ps4 pro on 2k reso. and im still not quite sure. ps4 pro is 4k support, is it support at 2k? sorry if its not relatable to your vids.
Yeah no prob! one of our viewers have asked that question before and tested by RKOEspada: "Okay, so basically it works, but streched out, both FHD and UHD setting on the PS4 Pro, sorry i dont have a fat or slim version of the PS4 nor a PS5" There are 2 problems: first is the aspect ratio. The X340 PRO is extra wide at 21:9, whereas PS4 only supports 16:9 ratio. So by using PS4 on the X340 it'll either be stretched out and everything will seem flattened, or that both sides will have a black bars like what the youtube video looks like. Besides that, what I got from a Reddit forum is: "Curved monitors also commonly have a vertical pixel resolution of 1440p which isn’t supported by the PS4. A regular PS4 or PS4 Slim can only output at 720p or 1080p, while the PS4 Pro can output at 720p, 1080p or 2160p (4k). As 1080p cannot scale easily to 1440p then the picture will look poor quality on a 1440p monitor. 1080p scales well to 2160p, which is why 1080p looks fine on a 16:9 2160p 4k display but not on 1440p." So, best not use PS4 on the X340 yet. We are not sure about PS5 though 'cause no one could buy it yet... XD
@@kenspchardware9867 Thank you so much sir. Good explanation, indeed very informative. Looks like i will have to wait for better monitors. But actually prism got 4k monitors which is prism c315 max. but its wide like this model. I wonder if its okay for gaming console.
You're most welcome. For a 4K ultra-wide monitor it doesn't suffer from the second problem, but the first problem of the aspect ratio will still be there. The cause is from PS4's output, not the monitor. This probably is due to when PS4 was developed UW monitors weren't mainstream yet. I think your next best bet would be PS5. =)
If it's for work or media editing, I'd have to say yes, the same amount of money can get a decent flat screen with the same size. But if you do play games & watch movies, you'd really got to give it a try =)

hey bro, why does it say 110hz in your settings when it's supposed to support 144hz?@@kenspchardware9867
Sorry to burst the news though, they just upgraded the X340 Pro to 165 Hz at roughly the same price in May 2021... 😀

Any updates on the monitor?
the bios not accessible thru dp cable is an issue with windows 11 not being compatible with your gpu. I've contacted nvidia customer service about this and it's still an ongoing issue up until this day. Quick fix is to go back to windows 10.
Hi Ken, so after more than a year, do you have any issue with the monitor in terms of smearing, dead pixels and all?
Awesome, I need this type of review as I was thinking whether to buy or not loll
Glad to be able to help!
Good points.. very helpful thanks
Thanks!!
Can you drop the ICC profile?
how it compares to Viewsonic VX3276-2K-mhd 32 Inch WQHD IPS Monitor?
Thanks for the great review! What kind of monitor arm did you end up getting?
Have you tried dual monitor set up before? If so, what do you think the advantage of using an ultrawide screen vs dual monitor setup?
@@damianng1237 yeah 4K IPS definitely rocks!!

Hi Ken,
Thank you for the great review. Just wondering if you would recommend this monitor for primarily working on MS Office and windows based applications such as usual office software.

Sorry for not being of much help, here is one example I found:

@@kenspchardware9867 Okie, thanks Ken :)
hello sir. can you share your icc profiles sir??
What's the brand of the monitor arm you are using?
Hi. What monitor arm have you used
Hey man, a fellow owner of a glorious X340 pro 144hz here as well what is that arm you're using there?
i'm thinking of getting the North Bayou H100, any thoughts?
@@kenspchardware9867 Yeah man i did some research on that and noticed it to, i i actually have my rig on a separate table and planning to mount it to the side of the table, i just bought the NB100 from Lazada this morning,
fingers crossed i get it by tomorrow :D
Yup that's a good choice 👍
bought one in January, what you said about it being bias to Cool colors is definitely what I experienced too.
Turn on MPRT will be darked
HOW ABOUT 8!! the weird screws you use to vesa mount it??
Fantastic! Thanks

Sorry ken, not something related to the topic, but may i ask, what is the name of the game you're playing 5.57

hey Ken, given the choice, would you still go for prism? or xiaomi?

Nope, no ghosting (a.k.a black smearing) issues I can notice so far with my monitor.
Ken, what monitor arm do you suggest for X340 Pro? I have did some research and majority says the Arc Stealth is not sturdy enough to hold its weight.
Hey Ken could you share the x340 calibrated colour profile please

I've put the datacolor results here, not so sure whether it's what you need, sorry i'm not that well versed in colour calibration as I just let the Spyder 5 do all the job =D
Thanks bro, for this honest review, appreciate this over tons of sponsored review all over YT.
Btw, got some questions need your clarification:

How to adjust 144hz ?
Or its automatic
Hi Ken, Here is my sharing, I was having the same issue that not showing bios by sing GTX 1080 with Display port cable.
However it shows the bios after I change to RTX 3070 ti (by using same display port cable)
Yeah I also just realize that after changing to rtx3070. It's a graphics card compatibility issue. Older ones are less compatible
Excel really washed out? How about those figures on xls? Sharp or struggling?
Sharpness isn't an issue, the figures will show fine as the numbers are in black, as long as the colour is in contrast against the white background it'll be fine. The issue will be however the when the white background comes together with similiar colours: light grey, light yellow, light blue, etc. So if you imagine selecting a cell and it's highlighted in light grey, you'll have a hard time seeing which cell was selected and the grid lines can barely be seen.
To solve this, you'll need to adjust the colour towards the warmer side by dialing up % of Red, or dialing down Green & Blue, I think.
I really curious if this will work with a 2017 12inch MacBook
I dont notice any motion blur with CSGO. This monitor uses a samsung panel so it's still pretty reliable in terms of performance
Great review
Thanks!! 😁
Hey may I know what's the model of the monitor arm you using?
Sure, it's the Loctek DLB851
Bro I need help how do you fix the curve monitor to arc stealth arm? Any advice
Mine is not the arc stealth arm, is a 3rd party arm. Instructions would vary across different monitor arms but, just remember to fix yours at the edge of the table near the tables legs.
If you fix it on the center, the table might bend.
Should I choose prism over philips 346b1c? Both are priced similarly but philips seems to have more feature. I'm not a huge gamer btw
Table depth 80cm suitable ? Or still need larger ?
Should be sufficient. Any larger would be huge though
Thanks Ken!
Hi Ken. I have a question. Will the X340 Pro 144Hz be compatible to the PS4+PS5? Thanks.
that's a great question, I only have a PS3 so far, let me find out and i'll get back to you...
I can test that for you, i have a ps4
whoa that's great! i'm searching on info for whether Ultrawide TVs are supported by PS4s, some user in Quora said:
"PS4 does not support ultrawide monitors. If you use an ultrawide monitor on the PS4 then either there will be no image in the far borders or the image will have lost the correct aspect ratio and appear stretched."
But the more pressing issue is:
"Curved monitors also commonly have a vertical pixel resolution of 1440p which isn’t supported by the PS4. A regular PS4 or PS4 Slim can only output at 720p or 1080p, while the PS4 Pro can output at 720p, 1080p or 2160p (4k). As 1080p cannot scale easily to 1440p then the picture will look poor quality on a 1440p monitor. 1080p scales well to 2160p, which is why 1080p looks fine on a 16:9 2160p 4k display but not on 1440p."
So i think for now PS4 and5 is still best not played on 1440p...
Okay, so basically it works, but streched out, both FHD and UHD setting on the PS4 Pro, sorry i dont have a fat or slim version of the PS4 nor a PS5 🙏🏾
Thanks so much for confirming! But yeah I guess ps4 were developed before ultra wide screens became mainstream 😀
can u share display settings... hard to find correct display
sure, what settings do you want to know?

Thx for the information 👍
It really worked wonders for me 😀
Whether if it's flat or curved, after using it for almost 9 months, I pretty much got used to the curvature and it feels very natural to look at a curved screen (it was quite weird at first).
Thanks!
Hi, may I know the model of the Sony speaker?
Sure, it's quite an old one and I think it's discontinued already, it's the Sony ZR7 wireless speaker
Freesync in X340 PRO has to be turned on via the monitor's Menu: Home > Other > FreeSync (Adaptive Sync) > On
In any case I couldn't test whether Freesync is working or not becuz I'm limited by my GPU, it couldn't support high enough refresh rates for the pixel shearing to be seen. Hopefully GPU prices will go back to normal soon...😢
Hi Ken, great video. Can you share how you calibrated the monitor? I'm new to this space
May I know what spec of HDMI cable are you using are what is the max refresh rate via HDMI?
I'm using a Premium High Speed HDMI cable, it is able to support up to a maximum 144Hz. Higher refresh rates need a grade higher, I've pasted the link in the description, and you can google for the official HDMI certifications. Many normal display port cables are also able to support up to 144Hz but I think for older generation graphics card, somehow I can't get into BIOS using DP cable.
As for the monitor calibration, basically there are 2 ways:
1. Manual: You'll need to adjust the brightness, contrast, Red, Green, & Blue levels in the monitor manually, until your eyes are able to look at the monitor comfortably and all the items appear correctly. There are many contrast & colour calibration images used by photographers that you can use to calibrate your monitor:
images.app.goo.gl/KEqCutBACbpvWfps5
If you are using your monitor for non-work related things then this should be enough.
@@kenspchardware9867 Thanks for the explanation Ken! Do you mind sharing the purchase link to your HDMI cable?
@@benjaminchai9653 You're welcome! I bought the cable just by walking into one of the IT stores in Digital Mall. Most of the IT stores do carry them, just need to tell them what monitor refresh rates you need to support and they'll let you know.
yo Ken. So the refresh rate is at 110Hz? @4:04
I'm running the monitor on a GTX 960 because GPU prices now are so ridiculous I can't buy a new one yet, my GTX 960 only supports a maximum of 110Hz so the monitor is limited by my GPU.
Hey bro, I just got this monitor, can share what monitor arm you use to hold it?
sure, it's the Loctek DLB851
How this compared to the P438 , trying to choose between this 2
Well, the P438 is about 44% more expensive than X340 PRO, with almost all the specs being superior, and it's an IPS panel.
But I can't confirm this, maybe someone who has experience with 32:9 monitors can chip in?
checkout this thread about 32:9 ratios for movies, this guy really explained it well: www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/bu8x95/329_feature_film/epid95o?context=3
Besides that, the second most surprising comparison is that the P438 is a 1080p FHD monitor, not QHD. While usage wise it isn't that much of a difference, but at that pricing for a 1080p monitor is abit hard for me to swallow. I would have gone for a 4K monitor at a smaller size and that would blow me away more than the wide screen estate 🤣.

Hi thanks for the great in-depth review, what do you think if this monitor compare to the likes of Gigabyte G34WQC?
So you won't be wrong getting either Gigabyte or the X340 =)
And you're most welcome!
@@derekw9358 Great to hear that it's working out great for you! 😀
Any issues with ghosting on that panel when you play games? It's a VA panel right?
After 7 months' usage, nope no issues at all, images are sharp as they are new. Yes it's a VA panel.
@@kenspchardware9867 i am looking for this question and answer. Coz u know...VA panel normally very popular with ghosting issue.
Can you be hosent and test g sync, does brightness flicker?
Well as I said in my other comment, I can't test Gsync because my GTX 960 GPU isn't enough to support high resolution games to make the pixel shearing visible. Which means, I can't run a high enough resolution at a high enough refresh rate of a AAA game title to make pixels tear and therefore test whether GSync is working when its on.
I tried tomb raider and the game simply won't run. Maybe in the future when GPU prices have normalized then I can buy a new GPU to test out the GSync, sorry.
Good vid, i subbed
Hi, may know that monitor stand ? Can i use general stand or how ? Thanks
i'm using a Loctek DLB851, there are tons of brands out there. I think as long as you use an arm that can withstand the weight it should be fine. I just bought an arm that can support up to 10+ KG just for added safety.
@@kenspchardware9867 Okay, thank you for the info, man!
@@aldyanimayazar7804 welcome!
Thanks for the great review. Does this monitor support multiple input signals from laptop and PC and show both on screen simultaneously?
What's the best graphic card or GPU to go with?
Hmm, I don't think it would be best to decide which GPU to go for based on the monitor. It would be better to decide based on what you use it for. Do you use it for media and movies? Any gtx or rtx would be good. 1440p gaming? If you don't set at max settings even gtx cards are okay. For 3d design? Rtx or quadro cards.
While I think the monitor choice mainly affects the refresh rate and aspect ratio we see, the rest (quality, rendering time etc) would highly depend on usage and personal preference. Maybe you can share what would you use the gpu for?
@@kenspchardware9867 I am planning to use for mainly trading , charting , excel and not so much on media.
Thanks
Well in that case any low end GPUs can work for you because non-media related software are not graphics intensive, the GPU's main task is to render 3D images and textures so if your usage doesn't involve those, any small GPU would work just fine. If you're gonna open many programs might as well spend the money on 16Gb of RAM instead 😊
@@kenspchardware9867 ok. thank you.
What is it like with a Xbox one x?
Sorry i don't have an Xbox to test with, but I'm guessing it would be the same as ps5, refer to the older comments for this
@@kenspchardware9867 all good, it’s definitely worth the price cause I bought it :)
sry, just for conformation, this is not 4k reso right? just 1440p
Yup its not 4k, it's 2k, midway between 1080p and 4k.
@@kenspchardware9867 ive been googling about ps4 pro on 2k reso. and im still not quite sure. ps4 pro is 4k support, is it support at 2k? sorry if its not relatable to your vids.
Yeah no prob! one of our viewers have asked that question before and tested by RKOEspada:
"Okay, so basically it works, but streched out, both FHD and UHD setting on the PS4 Pro, sorry i dont have a fat or slim version of the PS4 nor a PS5"
There are 2 problems: first is the aspect ratio. The X340 PRO is extra wide at 21:9, whereas PS4 only supports 16:9 ratio. So by using PS4 on the X340 it'll either be stretched out and everything will seem flattened, or that both sides will have a black bars like what the youtube video looks like.
Besides that, what I got from a Reddit forum is:
"Curved monitors also commonly have a vertical pixel resolution of 1440p which isn’t supported by the PS4. A regular PS4 or PS4 Slim can only output at 720p or 1080p, while the PS4 Pro can output at 720p, 1080p or 2160p (4k). As 1080p cannot scale easily to 1440p then the picture will look poor quality on a 1440p monitor. 1080p scales well to 2160p, which is why 1080p looks fine on a 16:9 2160p 4k display but not on 1440p."
So, best not use PS4 on the X340 yet.

Look like flat monitor is better
If it's for work or media editing, I'd have to say yes, the same amount of money can get a decent flat screen with the same size.
But if you do play games & watch movies, you'd really got to give it a try =)
i'm actually more on cyber security. I need bigger monitor to view logs
im going to buy this www.benq.com/en-ap/monitor/entertainment/ew3270u/specifications.html 16:9 monitor
