The Kriegsman comes to honor his fallen brothers and sisters, but finds that the place where their graves once stood to be barren, the flowers that surround their graves covering and hiding the helmets. Making it seem like they were never there.
But he does not despair, for where once their markers stood on a blasted battlefield of torn and scarred earth, now they sleep amongst the vibrance of a living world. Their death was not in vain, their lives given so that the planet could survive and grow beautiful once more. In life, shame. In death, atonement.
I think it supposed to Krieg itself, it an ideaised Krieg, that the Emperor has forgiven (in the mind of the Kriegers) hence why the grave markers didn't disappeared, they turned into the field of flowers (new life)
Just brothers. Kriegsman are almost certainly all a sort of clone of one incredibly hard bastard, that was willing to become a monster and nuke a world to near total oblivion, rathee than let it succeed from two Imperium. If there are women on Krieg, and that's actually questionable, rhey would exist only to bare more soldiers and work to supply them arms and equipment. Krieg exists purely for war. It's a loving hell that has absolutely no room for anything other than total war, as efficiently and zealously as possible.
It is said that if the Emperor were to ever walk among his subjects once more, he could crush the fighting spirit, madness and the very will of the kriegsmen with but three words…… “I forgive you”
"Kriegsmen, we are forgiven. No more zealous carnage and sacrifice to atone for our ancestor's sin." "...umh...comrades...we...we should find a way to thank the god emperor for his love and mercy....any ideas?" "...how about we thank him with zealous carnage and sacrifice?" "Works for me. Fix your bayonetts. For the love of the emperor! CHARGEEEEE!"
@@Reyfan601 I think it goes even deeper than that. Kriegsmen believe they are born with the original sin of treason. The penalty for treason is death, so they can only gain absolution by dying in battle. To be forgiven in life is unthinkable, because the Emperor never pardons traitors. That's what makes the Emperor fair and strong, and is why they have such fanatical trust in him. If the Emp forgave them in life it would destroy the foundation their entire culture is built on. They would percieve him doing so as arbitrary and weak. There is nothing more heretical.
What I find so beautiful about this, is that their graves don't remain in a blasted wasteland. Life recovers and seeing how long it takes for something as resilient as a Lasgun to rot away, the place enjoys a lasting peace. The death of these Kriegers meant something, their lives were not spent in vain.
Indeed, they become the foundation for life to sprout once more. For even if a Krueger dies, they still have the duty to bring life back to where they brought death. For even if they may never atone for their egregious sins against the god emperor of mankind, they still atone for death with their own life. Hm? Wait inquisitor, I’m not talking heresy! Seeing the nine grave marks indicates that he maybe the last of his squad, I see an officer's helm, a grenadier and a few other rank distinction, it must also indicate that they must be the youngest. He was reassigned and later revisited the tomb of his fallen comrades, a noble sentiment towards their fallen brethren.
What hits the hardest is that in-universe, those graves may have been marked but as soon as the area is secured those rifles and helmets will be given to new or current soldiers, so that the pattern can repeat again
to those brave souls this is the only gesture I can do "pours out a measure of Fenrisian Ale on the markers" now you stand with the Allfather may he protect you now and forever
Kriegers are just people. Indoctrinated, bred to kill, but still people. So even if a Krieger, told to find redemption in death, when he is in immense pain, physical or otherwise, he will react like any other would. They are no different to you and me. This video shows that :)

In the 42nd millenium, much has happened, after the incredible actions of an imperial loyalist group that managed to bring back the broken and scattered souls of the god emperor to its body on Earth , much of the events at the galaxy at large became a blur, the war was no more a losing battle but an ever grander reconquest of all lost sectors and with the eye of terror finally shut and the final tyranide invasion stopped by an impromptu alliance between the Imperium of Mankind and the Silent King. Much of the Imperial worlds we're at last, in peace. One such planets was Krieg, a planet once known for producing millions of soldiers a month was now going a phase of regrowth with the vegetation and liberated animals free of their genetical modifications roaming the land. After the last battle for erasure of the eye of terror, a titanical battle between thousands of demonic prince and the god emperor and its Custodes, 100% of all Krieg personnel were sent to fight in the name of the emperor. In the aftermath of the battle, the God Emperor himself seeing the ever loyal Kriegsman action with a fervor that could rival even his own close guard. Would officially pardon all of Krieg for their ancestors crimes. But such an event reduced Kriegs forces to a barely 5 person strong unit, marking them as the last Kriegsman. By their choice, no more soldiers would be produced, no more of Krieg would be used for war, no more death would come. Bringing us now to the last Krieg, Keled R83940E84BT7 would approach the grave of his comrad and friend, lost during the finishing hours of the war against the tyranids. Their death brought them full military honor with a parade and all that comes with it, but such a thing felt hollow to Keled. still having a part of his soul stuck to this era of his life that made him into a war machine. So with nothing to do of his time, he would make 4 'final posts' for his comrad. in the true tradition of all dead kriegsman. Now hundreds of years old, way older than any guardsman that ever breathed inside and outside of Krieg, Keled couldnt stop himself to check one last time on the resting place of his comrad.
Damn, could you imagine if Krieg eventually got destroyed and there was one Krieger left in the galaxy, and he has to continuously battle his lust to die gloriously to carry on the legacy of his homeworld

Wait when snow is falling fast, Wait when summer's hot, Wait when yesterdays are past, Others are forgot. Wait, when from that far-off place, Letters don't arrive. Wait, when those with whom you wait Doubt if I'm alive. Wait for me, and I'll come back! Wait in patience yet When they tell you off by heart That you should forget. Even when my dearest ones Say that I am lost, Even when my friends give up, Sit and count the cost, Drink a glass of bitter wine To the fallen friend - Wait! And do not drink with them! Wait until the end! Wait for me and I'll come back, Dodging every fate! "What a bit of luck!" they'll say, Those that would not wait. They will never understand How amidst the strife, By your waiting for me, dear, You had saved my life. Only you and I will know How you got me through. Simply - you knew how to wait - No one else but you.
He closed the box, retied it’s ribbon. He held it to his heart, let it rise and fall with his chest as he breathed deeply. “We do not forget”, the colonel muttered to himself.
I’m sure they’d want nothing else. The Krieger’s philosophy is self destructive and to them being “forgiven” for the crimes of their people is to be forgotten. That’s the true tragedy of Krieg, and why I will not weep for them… only pity them.

With their sins forgiven, they are to be forgotten Their respect and drive, will not be not be known on a single hive For their hard work, repaying the one who bought them They will be wiped from every database, and in the end…they will be remembered by no archive

Weep not, for the fallen Kreigsman, for his life was not his own to give. Cry not, for the fallen Kreigsman, as his duty did he could not outlive. He dug the trenches, as he dug the graves. The fact he was carrying poppies hit me very hard; poppies are the flower of death in war and the strongest representation of WW1; which the Death Korps are based on WW1 Germany. There was a lot about this that hit hard with me; especially since the graves are long since gone by the time the one who made them has returned.
I wait for the time when The God Emperor of mankind says these words "krieg is frogiven" I wait for the time when the Kriegsmen fight to honor the will of their god not to endlessly atone for the sins they have long atoned for.
"And as the last of that war-torn world knelt before the Emperor, begging forgiveness, last bayonet broken and charge pack expended, grenades all thrown and armor all shattered, fists bloodied, nails broken, I saw that it was not the Enemy who destroyed Krieg. "It was Him. "For with five words, the Emperor laid low the last child of Krieg. In an instant, every sacrifice Krieg ever made was rendered useless, with nothing but five words that washed it all away like paper before a flame; *"There is nothing to forgive."* "And on that day I knew that the child kneeling before the Emperor could be a child of Krieg no longer, for what was Krieg without her sins? "It is the same blasted wasteland. A great basalt tomb. "But now, it is a a tomb called Pax."
You know, if you think about it, the ultimate dream for Krieg is a world where they're no longer needed. If all the enemies have fallen, then there is no purpose for them any longer. They will have finally, at last, redeemed themselves through service.

The field full of poppies is so beautiful. Because poppies are symbolic of a peaceful death, are associated with Remembrance Day (the end of WW1), and the Kriegers are modeled after WW1 German soldiers.
You got me welling up now. “Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep” is what my great Uncle Clifford recited to my Dad and I before he passed away. He was 85 years old.
Just thought I’d put this here, the flowers that cover the field look to be Poppies, they were popularized during WW1 because they still bloomed in the terrible conditions of no-mans land, it was believed that they were red because of the blood that sank into the ground. Now why I bring up Poppies is because a famous WW1 poem called “Flanders Field” is about Poppies, and it was created after someone witnessed the death of a close friend. Poppies are also worn as a reminder of WW1 and that we won’t forget those that gave their lives, this sound eerily familiar. WW1 was also were Blitzkrieg was born, pioneered by the German Stormtroopers.

For me the best thing about this, is how the environment recovers and returns to its previous state before whatever battle they died in took place. For things like their helmets to vanish completely, their resting place must have enjoyed a lasting peace. This means that the battle they gave their lives in was not fought in vain.
I don't know what the flowers at the end are meant to be, but in my eyes they are Poppies. They are psychologically broken during training, turning them into pathological suicides thinking only about Death and atonement for the separatism of 500 years ago. And then one survivor tries to honor the death of his comrades-in-arms and regret that he is still alive, because for them death is atonement for their sins of betrayal. But he does not despair, for where once their markers stood on a blasted battlefield of torn and scarred earth, now they sleep amongst the vibrance of a living world. Their death was not in vain, their lives given so that the planet could survive and grow beautiful once more.
In life, shame. In death, atonement.
Theres nothing to mourn about a life spent in service to The Emperor, beloved by all.
They are with our holy father now
I think it supposed to Krieg itself, it an ideaised Krieg, that the Emperor has forgiven (in the mind of the Kriegers) hence why the grave markers didn't disappeared, they turned into the field of flowers (new life)
Just brothers.
It is said that if the Emperor were to ever walk among his subjects once more, he could crush the fighting spirit, madness and the very will of the kriegsmen with but three words……
“I forgive you”
"Kriegsmen, we are forgiven.
@@phreakazoith2237now you making me imagine that scenario, nice
they would only fight harder.
Baldermort…

I like to think that this Krieger is the one from the memes about Kreig Perpetual, still remembering his brothers after all these decades.
Maybe. Who knows how many times he has died for the emperor so far.
That's probably the very best ending you could get from an existence where there was only war.
As it could be much worse.
Get a Salamander, he needs a hug

"We must not be remembered, our sin must be purged and our death must happen, perhaps in death, The God Emperor forgives our offense, we must live and die for him, only then will we be forgotten and forgiven by our lord"
That's what I think... But I'm weak, a sinner who deserves death and should be able to accept it, but there is no more battle to fight and no enemy to fight to the death, finally the war is over, and my hell is to live my life freely, i won't be remembered, but I will not be forgiven either... Wait, when those with whom you wait
Doubt if I'm alive.

Wait in patience yet
When they tell you off by heart
That you should forget.
Even when my dearest ones
Say that I am lost,
Even when my friends give up,
Sit and count the cost,
Drink a glass of bitter wine
To the fallen friend -
Wait! And do not drink with them!
Wait until the end!
Wait for me and I'll come back,
Dodging every fate!
"What a bit of luck!" they'll say,
Those that would not wait.
They will never understand
How amidst the strife,
By your waiting for me, dear,
You had saved my life.
Only you and I will know
How you got me through.
Simply - you knew how to wait -

I’m sure they’d want nothing else. The Krieger’s philosophy is self destructive and to them being “forgiven” for the crimes of their people is to be forgotten.

The fact he was carrying poppies hit me very hard; poppies are the flower of death in war and the strongest representation of WW1; which the Death Korps are based on WW1 Germany.
There was a lot about this that hit hard with me; especially since the graves are long since gone by the time the one who made them has returned.
The Kriegers are an amalgamation of all WW1 troops.
Their name and helmets are German, their uniforms are French, their gasmasks British.

I feel for this guy he was the last survivor of his team and he had to say goodbye to all of them and when he had a chance to comeback he couldn’t find the ones he used to call brother
In fact, there is an even greater tragedy here if you understand the context. The Krieg Death Corps are recruited from a planet that is a nuclear wasteland. They are psychologically broken during training, turning them into pathological suicides thinking only about Death and atonement for the separatism of 500 years ago. And then one survivor tries to honor the death of his comrades-in-arms and regret that he is still alive, because for them death is atonement for their sins of betrayal. For him it is literally possible torture.

Good.
some reason I think of melancholy as a pleasant mood. I don't know why. I know its not, but its what calms me. Humbles me. Reminds me. I guess that's why.
Watching this att night makes it feel even better
I lost my mother last mounth. This was one of her favorite poem. I know she wants me to take care of myself but it's very hard without her here. My wings are broken after her passing.
5th like also sad
keep living
I’m not sure what or why but this hit me in the feels the fact he comes back looking for there graves but can’t find them is tragic but the fact that the graves where ar on point on this blasted wasteland but now lie under lush vegetation is both beautiful and tragic but shows life will recover things will get better even if it’s not immediately apparent but that poem is both incredibly tragic and hopeful
The fact that death is like a blessing from the emperor to the Vat Born Children of Krieg hits hard

My cat passed from this world a few days ago... this helped me a little.
This is a beautiful war memorial. For a fictional army or not.
The forgotten dead deserve their honors, and even when the names fade from memory their actions and legacy deserve observance.
