Did it! I installed a Kingston SD hard drive. I had a few surprises. One of the screws to the hard drive caddy was jammed in and I stripped it. My friend used a Dremel tool to try and get it out and the vibration loosened it. I found another screw on an old hard drive caddy to use. I didn't get the keyboard ribbon inserted right the first time but got it in fine the next time. Thanks! this has made such a difference. So much faster, especially the boot!
@@rickstechrepairs I looked a little closer at the mobo, and it looks like the previous owners ripped the small daughter board next to or just above the HDD right out with the HDD! Only a small piece of it's left!! The plug in port is slightly messed up too!
bugger, you could still possibly use it with the daughter board missing and also if the HDD Connector is too far gone, but up a copy of linux off a USB Stick
@@rickstechrepairs I haven't looked closely at the SATA port for the HDD. It almost looks like a small, separate daughter board as well. I think the port might be fixable, but replacing would be better! Thank you 🤓

Awesome to read you have overcome a few challenges but have now greatly increased the speed of your computer :D
Thanks! You even tell which screws go where, which saved me some puzzlement.
Cheers, i try and capture that in the footage
I got a hold of an Asus x555d, in pieces, as the HDD was removed! Thanks for the guided upgrade, and where the different screws go!
No worries at all

Nice video. Thanks for high quality and detailed explanation.
Cheers
Thanks for the video, but well.... this looks like a proper nightmare. I'm having second thoughts.
