I find for me that when I'm tempted to donate a deck it's better I let it go- I have so many decks I absolutely LOVE and don't have time to work with as it is, and I almost never regret letting a deck go. We have a family friend who lost their job and holds regular garage sales as a way to bring in some money, and the decks I "donate" to his garage sales bring a lot of sales and attention for some reason- people gather around them when he puts them out and wind up buying other things, as well. So anything that I'm even tempted to rehome I just give to him to sell, even super rare decks- I feel like maybe someone else out there might be able to find a deck they have been hunting for, discover a love of Tarot, and/or our friend can benefit as well. But I do this because I'm in a stage where I just really want to eliminate any indecision and attachments from my life, and those "oh I like it, but it's more of an interesting deck than a partner in my practice" or "I may someday want to reach for this" or "I'm only keeping it because I paid so much for it..." decks really just add a lot of noise and prevent me from reading because they take up space and take away attention from decks that I just absolutely love love love. So many decks, so little time.
Omg…I love your perspective! I’m thinking long and hard about what I bring into my life now that the years seem to be wizzing by. I’m not quite at the point of Swedish Death Cleaning, but I may be getting close. I just don’t want my husband or kids to have to deal with my stuff. And it’s not only decks, it’s my clothes and hobby supplies too. We often make the mistake that we think our kids will be interested in our things, but it’s rarely the case.
@@oldsoulmermaid1543 That's exactly right! My daughter is 18 and not very sentimental- we all have to build our own lives. A few things are nice to have available if family wants, but people tend to enjoy accumulating their own special things of meaning through their lives.
I’ve been missing your presence here in TH-cam land and I’m so happy you are back! Your voice is much needed as there is no one quite like you. As to which deck I’d like to say goodbye to but cannot? That would be the Tarot of Aphrodite - in all its pink glory. I cannot stand pink, and yet, here we are. The problem is that it reads so well (for me) and that’s absolutely marvelous when I need a clear and direct response. Thanks for making videos again!
@@oldsoulmermaid1543 If you love pink you should have a look at it. The deck is now on its second edition with clearer pictures and an added guidebook. The author is so lovely! Needless to say, I’m very tempted 🩷🫣
I had a similar experience with that deck. I bought it, but didn't use it much. Then towards the end of 2023, I started using it along with the guidebook and now it is among my most used--in a tiny collection.
I also have the Influence of the Angels Tarot, & I don't reach out to it as much as I do with my other decks in my tarot library. It doesn't read as clear when I use it to read for others but boy, everytime I use it for my personal reading it is bang on - straight to the point, clear as crystal! And I have learned to love this deck because of that. Although I still don't reach for it as often. But when I want a clear answer to my questions for personal readings, this is definitely one of the few decks I rely on. 😊
I love being pleasantly surprised by my decks. I’ve also had decks that ticked all of the boxes as far as preferences and I couldn’t read with them 🤷🏻♀️
I really enjoy this deck and I was afraid I wouldn't, for the same reason as you! :D But now I love it! I have the new version with linen cardstock. It's not a perfect linen, but I love the texture!
I enjoyed this, from the clarity of imagery to the addition of music and your voiced thoughts. I had some of these decks myself and opted for Kat Black's Golden Tarot, which works best for me. The Touchstone Tarot is all portraits and doesn't do for me as I like to see some manner of action/activity taking place in order to read, as opposed to just people staring at me. The angels deck I've had to recontextualize for myself and for others as I don't embrace 'angels' decks, but as I said to others, remember that this deck is not about the angels, it's about the "INFLUENDE' whatever you take the word 'influence' to mean. It could mean the influence of religion or belief on action -- motivation, guilt, sorrow, etc. Maybe think of it as the haunting influence of religion, or conscience, always floating in the background of behavior. I ended up passing the Influence of Angels deck on because of one particular card whose art seemed different from the rest of the deck and was used for the cover art of an album by a rock group called "Kansas". I just didn't gel with it. I have had decks I've put aside and drawn out of a rehoming deck later with an evolved perspective having a second honeymoon of appreciation with them. I don't think there are any I regret parting with. Over time our tastes and interest and education change. I couldn't deal with pip decks 5 years ago, but now there are some i absolutely love. I also hold onto the Tarot of Delphi even though I never use it, I still like the artwork.
I love this! I know the reason I’m able to work with this deck now is due to some religious deconstruction and a little education. I had to laugh about the “Kansas Album Cover Card” (King of Wands). I would have to agree as the artwork is depicting abolitionist John Brown. Aesthetically it doesn’t really fit, but I’m getting use to it 😉. The Tarot of Delphi is a thing of beauty and sadly one that I don’t own. If I had it I think that would be won I could never part with whether I used it nor not 😁
I also have been considering rehoming some decks. I have just been picking up my decks again after almost a year so I don't want to be too hasty either. I would like a little more minimalism in my life too. I find getting myself motivated to rehome things is hard!
Hi, Bonnie. I used to have the Golden Tarot by Kat Black but rehomed it due to the Christian symbolism. Beautiful deck. Very clear. I really like the imagery of this deck. Lovely art. It helps me if I think about angels as benevolent beings / energy and kind of divorcing myself from the Christian perspective. Does it always work? No. But it can help me come to terms with it. You have a good attitude about handling these tricky situations.
I never bit the bullet with the Golden Tarot even though I did think it was beautiful for the same reasons you re- homed it. I love your perspective about the angel imagery. I’ll have to remember it if I ever have a problem with it again 😉
I'm a little over half-a-century old with young kids (youngest is 12) so I'm thinking more of thinning out what I have in the house. My kids' toys and books took over the empty spaces though lol. She loves her dollhouses and books. I am becoming more mindful of what I bring into the house only because I haven't really got a chance to get to know the decks (except for a handful). I have both Influence of the Angels and Queen of Moon Oracle decks. I love historical-themed decks. As one who practiced Christianity many years ago, I become a little uncomfortable when it comes to angel decks but this Angel Tarot deck is an exception. I never thought of using those two decks together - well, I'm more of a Tarot reader and I tend not to pair decks but maybe I'll try it. Thank you for sharing!
I want to thank you 🙏 for taking the time to share! As I get older, the thought of Swedish Death cleaning becomes more prevalent. I don’t want my kids to have to deal with all my stuff. That means not only my decks and books, but all of my hobby supplies as well 😁
I was interested to hear the you kept both Revival Art Tarot decks. Somehow I have a memory (I may be wrong) of your saying that you were considering decluttering them because of their bulkiness. I also have them both.
You are correct! I really love those decks, but they are large for my hands and they are not the easiest for me to shuffle. I do use them occasionally because they read well for me, but if something very similar came out with different cardstock and in a traditional card size, I would be all over that!
So glad to see you posting again! I found your channel and loved it, and the very next video is when you said you were going to kind of step back from posting 😭
Aw, I'm so glad to hear you found a connection to this deck! I really adore it. My mom was raised LDS and some of my extended family still is. I was always more adjacent to it rather than active in the church but I can totally understand your feeling toward religious iconography in tarot. I feel drawn to it myself, but I think that's a purely aesthetic thing for me. When a deck is heavy handed in g-o-d that can turn me off.
I was just informed that this deck now comes in a linen cardstock. Do you have that? I’m very tempted. I love linen cardstock! You know, my husband converted to Mormonism a couple of years after we married and he had no problem “shedding the Mormon” off of him. I’ve had a harder time as I was born and raised into it. I’ve been listening to the Mormon Stories podcast recently and it has helped listening to others with very similar experiences in that high demand religion.
Hello, Bonnie. I have also watched the previous video you did prior to this one. And as always, I enjoy them. I so love the laid back vibe of your vids. I just want to say I'm so happy that you are back in being active on TH-cam, coz I miss watching things that you share with us. I was really wondering what happened to you, if you have already given up your love for tarot (which will be a sad if you did). But now we know that you were just busy with work. I can fully relate coz I'm always busy with work too, that by the time I come home I'm already so exhausted even just to pull 1 card. :( Anyway, in behalf of your devoted viewers, welcome back to Tarot Tube. ❤
Let me know if you have had a deck that “refused” to leave your collection/library 😁
