    Finally someone that really understands the importance of the offset and is not just putting on a modern front end. I am doing this for years and use the triple clamps of the VF1000F for this since they have 50mm of offset which is about the same as the old Hondas.

    thank you man, this helps a lot. i’m putting a 2001 yz250 front end on a 1987 rm250 and this helped a lot!

      Awesome! Those YZ forks are great. I ran a set on an old XL500. That's gonna be a great swap ✌️

    Thank you so much for doing this! I'm right at the point where I'm swapping the front end on my 82 CB750 to a 94 CBR front end and this was a huge help!

      Any chance if you know whether the moderns upside down forks on the CBR use the exact same style stem length? Im working on trying the USD modern forks on my 79 CB750 dohc- and this video is extremely helpful. Thank you for all your help.

    Very helpful video! Learned more from your 20 minute video than hours of surfing the web. Only question is does a lot of this also apply to 92 CB750? Assuming just minor differences and maybe a different model CBR?

    You can use liquid nitrogen to shrink the stem to get it in if you don't have a presser.

    amazing video. thanks. I'm planning on doing the welding up and turning method to get the thickness I need. once I get the bottom to the thickness I need, do I need to do the same to the top where the stem will sit in the yamaha top triple tree?

    • @shinyribs2178
      @shinyribs2178  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Taylor Nelson I can't really say without seeing the actual parts you've got to work with, but I doubt it will work to weld up the top bearing register, too. More than likely, if you increase the O.D. of that top register, you won't be able to slide the bottom bearing past it. Good luck on your project!

    Wouldn't the easiest option be to just press the CBR stem down in its bottom yoke the distance needed so it matches the height of the stock steering stem. Grind off the excess you pressed through the bottom and reweld?

    • @shinyribs2178
      @shinyribs2178  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The CBR stem is not long enough. The reason this particular swap works so well is because the all the dimensions between the CB stem and the CBR stem are the same, except length. The CB uses a long headstock, so you need the longer stem to reach through. Hope this helps.

    Very nice video! How big press do you need for this? Is 6 ton enough?

    • @shinyribs2178
      @shinyribs2178  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Martin TK , 6 tons is more than plenty. It really doesn't take much pressure to press the stems out. You could drive it out with a hammer, but using a press makes it possible to set the proper depth and to prevent damaging any parts.

      shinyribs I manage to do the job with a big threaded rod, some pipes and muscle. How is it to weld on the yoke. Aren't they cast iron? I thought welding on cast was nono.

    • @shinyribs2178
      @shinyribs2178  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Martin TK , sorry for a slow reply. They're not difficult to weld at all. Personally, I just lay two tacks 180° apart, about 1/2" long each. No preheat or any sort of pretreatment needed, IMO.
      I can't say for sure, but I don't believe they are cast iron. If I had to guess, I'd say the are cast steel. Whatever they are, Honda had no issues welding them originally.

    Hello Sir, I have a stem that needs to be swapped. Are you a mechanic that accepts this work? If so, can I have your business info? Thank You!!!

    I wouldn't have used the press next to that newly painted car without putting a sheet of wood between them.
