I love all the people criticizing their "hipster tastes." Their tastes are no more obscure or quirky than any of the artists in this series. Guess what? It turns out people in good bands like exploring strange and interesting music.
growing up my mom was a musician..not popular but good in her own right..i remember she liked and mentioned francoise hardy it is just odd to see that name again after all of these years.
The bats almost forgot about them. Great band. The scientists were awesome have a record of theirs somewhere. Saw them one night in Sydney i think they played with the hard ons.
Saw The Scientists supporting Mudhoney many years ago. The guitarist trashed his guitar near the end of the set, at which point the singer said "dude, whatcha do that for? We've still got one more song"
Woody Guthrie was part of the 60s folk revival in terms of mentoring Ramblin' Jack Elliot and Bob Dylan but he started playing music in the 30s and did most of his recording in the 40s. The Anthology of American Folk Music came out in the 50s.
***** Yeah, I like some of their music, they're one of those bands that tends to sound indistinguishable one song to next unfortunately, not nearly as eclectic and interesting as their taste. Though I felt that way about Carissa's Wierd and Kurt Cobain too... must be something up in the Pacific Northwest water supply.
I like how all Colin's albums are chosen to enrich his creative projects. The other members' choices seem to be more focused on the music for its own sake.
Go listen to swampland, they are more like the cramps than the birthday party, they are a weird in between of both, very important band, dont diss them so easily.
And then you might also like to try Kim Salmon & The Surrealists (The Scientists were Kim's band)...don't just take my word for it, used & recommended also by Jon Spencer...
Love the Decembrists, but I have to admit these choices didn't really resonate with me other than Francoise Hardy. Of course, 5 second clips isn't much of a sample.
These vids are so frickin sick. They introduce me to so many new bands and artists and things so thank u thank u thank u
Decemberists are the real deal. Their appreciation of the art that is music is really interesting to watch
Hey, that's the lead singer of Sparklepony right there

This is actually one of the more impressive WIMB videos. Excellent picks. Great taste.
You can tell she's the fun one one of the group
j'adore the decemberists!
colin meloy: c'est cool! : )

Definitely my favorite of this series thus far. "It's all about the segues." Haha.
I don't know their music, but they seem like nice folks! Interesting picks as well
"Picaresque" is a good starting point for the Decemberists, in my opinion.

Love that he picked up the Adventure Time art book. AT is a must in life if you have kids. To watch and love with them of course!

*Elliott
"Old Hag You Have Killed Me" has got to be one of the best song titles ever
*Hey Beardo Colin, that's not the first time the Posies lp is on vinyl. Sheesh.*
Bothy Band fuck yeah.
Kudos for picking The Bats - great Kiwi band
Portland huh . . . Never would have guessed :)
Good for you to accept that you're most likely to stumble through life oblivious to just about everything...
Love their album "Hazards of Love"
I had no clue that girl who guest starred in Portlandia was in the Decemberists that's hilarious
Neither did I!
Michael Chapman’s ‘The Man Who Hated Mornings’ - Highly recommended ☝️😁
Yo-Yo MA is the winning find.
Colin Meloy is a younger, hunkier Nick Offerman.
that Harry Smith reissue. drooooool!
Brad Meldau and Chris Potter? These guys know their contemporary jazz.
Good band, nice eclectic picks.
oooo i have similar taste as john and colin!!
The Girls with Guitars record is FUCKING RAD!!!
Both Françoise Hardy and Sylvie Vartan reissues are mostly likely public domain releases, great albums nevertheless.
Nate is a super nice guy, although I'm not sure how he can pick Zep III over IV
Band members or college profs?
Not a fan of their music, but they have nice taste.
Especially like that French stuff.

the hipster cred is off the charts
I wanted to say this, but they seem like good people so I did not.
+Dolo D. They are pretty genuine people.
the chick needs to work on her pronunciation a bit first

oh sees!
Damn this band and their eccentric tastes(sarcasm); I want to purchase almost all of their picks.
Thanks Amoeba
The Parson Redheads sound like if Fleet Foxes got an infusion of new energy or something. Like a coffee I.V.
Smithsonian Anthology of American Folk Music? Sounds fun.
Michael Chapman!
Respect to Jenny for picking The Bothy Band...just go buy their three albums.

I think that’s the point…🤔~😐

scientists sound like a bad birthday party rip off

Don't let your uncultured, buffoonery get the best of you - there is still hope!
...so much cheesy French Yé-yé....
rareblues78daddy don't shame other people's tastes
That must be the most boring tour bus ever. Who stole the fun?
So much mansplaining going on in this video.
Lol. "Mansplaining." Go reeee somewhere else, child. Nobody wants to hear it.
Ah yes, bad band does mean bad taste.
