    use several loose zip ties around gasket, that will hold it, then cut them off when tightening

    I’ve just had my zf5hp24 on my 01 4.4 lose drive. It was thumping between 4/5 so I did a service on it , which didn’t cure it. It lasted two weeks before it stopped.
    It’s being trailered off to a trans specialist tomorrow to assess.

    Changing oil is just to lose the composite and the discs start to slip. Lack of cleaning and lubrication in the selector box is 90% of the cases in an emergency mode, the rest can be summarized as leaks, high temperature or water in the system due to the inefficient heat exchanger.

    Thanks for sharing that, Nathan! I never fully understood how it was exactly done. I have my transmission serviced every 25,000 miles. New filter and I’ve used Red Line ATF. 03 525ai daily driver.

    The GM transmission takes a Dex Merc. I used Valvoline Max Life synthetic fluid, red color. Worked just fine . The ZF takes a totally different fluid, that is gold color.

    I wish I'd seen this before:( .... I decided to use Motorcraft SP on my 6hp21 as an alternative, and was surprised it only took about 4 qts ..... I test drove for about 75 mi and just felt kinda harsh shifting and got the gear Icon! I came back checked the level and lo and behold, I was low 3qts!!!grrr! Anyways, I tested again, all seemed ok, then decided to re-set....during the adaptation, the gear icon came on again and I panicked....I cleared the error and it's been fine, strong, kinda smooth shifts, no slipping, no more icon, yet, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed, until the trans adapts.
    I want to change to MAX life, but I'm wondering if the mixing of fluids is going to cause more issues than it's worth and stick to the SP fluid. As an FYI, I'm running a Honda Accord on Max life for 400k on the original transmission!, so I do swear by Max Life. Unfortunately, being my first BMW, I was too cautious and amateurish on my fluid procedure.

    You missed filming the part I was most interested in ha. So you run the car and cycle the gears u till the pan measures roughly 100 degrees f and you're done when it spills out at that temp? Do you pump it in while the engine is running?

    • @nunayadoxing4623
      @nunayadoxing4623 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      for anyone else. fill it after you put pan back on. once it comes out put plug back on. start car idle for 5 seconds. then move through gears manually from park, to reverse, to n, to d, then repeat 2-3 times. Then move across to manual mode and go thru gears slowly 5 secs between gears, 1,2,3,4,5,6 and back down. leave car running. wait for it to get to running temp (use a temp gun on bottom of pan). Once temp is up 35 deg c + then take out the filler bolt. If it runs out your good. If it doesnt add to it while engine is running still until it comes out. Once it comes out seal it up and your done. test drive.

      Redline, my x5 e53 N62 has 266K miles, I only use Redline D4. I change at 25k when I tow a lot and 35k when I'm not. I believe Redline reccomends 45k. I change filter everyother filter change. For poops and giggles I looked up the oe equivalant to bmw gear oil and they said 45k. But BMW says life of car.

      I would go for an older BMW. I have no personal experience with a 7 series, but I have heard on those cars if one of the computer modules go out it's an exspensive repair. Again, not my personal experience but only what I have heard. I would do alot of research first. I personally think pre 2005 BMW's are much more reliable and would stick with a 3 series or 5 series with an inline 6, but I am not a BMW expert by any means.
