FAREWELL CANDLESTICK: Visiting San Francisco's Legendary Stadium Site 10 Years Later!

- The last San Francisco 49ers game at Candlestick Park was 10 years ago.
Let's revisit the site of so many championship teams and hall of famers on the south end of San Francisco. Candlestick was one of the most storied stadiums in all of sports.
Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Steve Young, Barry Bonds, Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Will Clark, Juan Marichal, John Madden, Kruk & Kuip, Vin Scully, Terrell Owens, Frank Gore, The Beatles and so many more built their legacies right here at the former site of Candlestick Park.
From legendary 49ers and Giants games to behind the scenes tours, we'll talk about the sports history and our personal memories.
Shoutout all my friends & fam with me in these memories, you guys mean the world to me.
"Candlestick Park, located in San Francisco, California, opened in 1960 as the home stadium for the San Francisco Giants baseball team. Originally named "Candlestick Park" due to its location on Candlestick Point, it later became known simply as "The 'Stick." The park gained notoriety for its challenging weather conditions, including strong winds and fog, which made it a unique and often difficult venue for both players and spectators.
In addition to baseball, Candlestick Park also hosted football games, primarily serving as the home stadium for the San Francisco 49ers of the NFL from 1971 to 2013. The stadium witnessed several historic sporting events, including the Beatles' final full concert in 1966 and the 1989 World Series, famously interrupted by the Loma Prieta earthquake.
Candlestick Park underwent renovations and upgrades over the years, but by the late 2000s, its aging infrastructure and facilities led to discussions about building a new stadium. In 2013, both the Giants and the 49ers moved to new venues, marking the end of an era for Candlestick Park. The stadium was demolished in 2015, making way for a retail and housing development called Candlestick Point. Despite its challenges, Candlestick Park holds a significant place in the history of San Francisco sports and entertainment."

This video did Candlestick proud. You properly captured the essence of The Stick and the feelings so many of us have for that place. I got chills when you mentioned walking through the concrete hallways towards the seats/field.
Nothing like that place. Just special.
Appreciate you bro! Miss this place everyday!
Meet at the tower at 12:00
@@vvarietyshowAs a bears fan, CP was a house of horrors from 1987-1994, even worse was the 1988 NFC championship game at Soldier Field on January 6, 1989, a 28-3 Niners win. I was 7 years old and was dejected. Later that year the Giants would beat the Cubs in the 1989 NLCS 4 games to 1. Great stadium , I miss seeing this old legendary buildings I remember from my childhood.
Nice work! It feels like a crime the way Candlestick was demolished and the team moved to that horrible location in Santa Clara.
@@vvarietyshow Did u have to get permission to walk out where the field was?
After the final event held at the Stick (Paul McCartney’s concert) my wife ran down to the field and pulled up a chunk of the grass for me (a lifelong Niners fan and former season ticket holder). We brought it back to our house in Portland where we planted it in a large flower pot. The grass still lives to this day. Long live the Stick, and go Niners!
Go Niners!
that is so awesome, don't know how I missed this comment. I still have some grass from the Oakland Coliseum I got in the 90s
A lot of Oregon residents grow grass😆
That's fantastic. Speaking of Paul Mccartney, the Beatles played their last concert in the United States at Candlestick Park.
My wife arranged a tour the day after the Carolina game in 2013 to tour the stick. It was the most memorable vacation ill ever have. My kids got to sit in the seats of the greats in the locker room. My 3 month old got to crawl on the field. My wife also procured some grass from the field. Everyone on tour took turns recreating The Catch in the same spot. I got to say a proper goodbye to the place which held so many of my happy childhood memories. Wifes are great. The good ones anyways lol.
I’d trade Levi’s to get Candlestick back in a heartbeat. So many great memories there. I got to go on stadium tour a couple months before they tore it down. It was an awesome experience. So much history, Giants, Niners, the Beatles final concert, etc. We used to sit in the Family Pavilion out in right. My cousin caught JT Snow’s first HR as a Giant there.
Man catching JT Snow's first Giants HR is so cool
Family pavillion was great even for a non family guy. It had great view. One of the most strange baseball configurations with the fence in the outfield and all the empty space with the kids running for the HR balls. Saw my first and last DH at the stick v the pirates. Also saw the first regular season NL/AL game Giants v. Seattle. Also saw Dave Dravacky last game 2 hitter v. the Reds.
I’m a New York guy and I was never at candlestick park, though I wish that I was. I watched many games from my sofa, as the Mets and Giants battled all those years. And I know what you mean. When you say you would trade your new park for candlestick Park in a heartbeat. I too, would trade Citi Field to have Shea Stadium back in a heartbeat 💗
As someone born and raised in the Bay and went to MANY games at the Stick, what a great love letter to the stadium we all knew and loved.
Thank you 🙏🙏🙏
As a niner fan and someone who grew up not that far from the stadium, candlestick truely was hollow ground. So many fond memories and great moments. Jerry rice's last game as a 49er, the catch 2 by TO, the playoff comeback against the NY giants in 2002, the playoff game against the saints in 2011, kaepernick lighting up the packers in the playoffs in 2012 and of course bowman pick at the 'stick in the final game in 2013. Miss candlestick so much man the feels
So much sports history it's crazy!
“Hallowed ground”. Lots of memories for sure.
I remember living by Candlestick and hearing the crowd roar from my house.
I wish I'd made it there...sad😟
I was at that game against the NY Giants in 2002. What a great game.
As the old saying goes, "Don't know what you got, till its gone"... So many Giants and Niners memories from the 80's n 90's RIP Candlestick!! You will live on in our memories for eternity
I will always miss it 🙏
I'm an East Coast 49ers fan... I got to see the stick once... it was the NFC Championship game against the NY Giants in 2012... heartbreaking game but I got to experience the stick in all its glory... thanks for this man.
I was at that game also. The footage at the tailgate with the pedestrian bridge was that game.
Thank you for checking it out 🙏
Thanks for doing this young man. I’m 64 and used to live in Daly City. I like many diehard Giants and 49ers fans, spent many days at this historic stadium that we’ll never forget. So many memories….😢
Yup! I'm 62 and we lived on San Bruno Ave.back in the day walking distance to STICK . Thank you for sharing. What about that Prudy boy .. Go Niners baby!!
Thank you all for watching 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks to everybody watching! I brainfarted and said 1989 World Series Game 1, meant Game 3. It was the first game at Candlestick in the series and that's what my dumb brain was thinking.
Also shameless plug we have an Etsy shop with some cool Candlestick prints: vvarietyshow.etsy.com
This video is 🔥
Well, technically, you weren't wrong. It was game 1 at Candlestick
@@spencerstewart2172 that's what was in my brain. Hard to keep it altogether while walking around a dirt lot in the sun 😂😂😂
Where did you get the candlestick park hoodie and New Era hat 🧢?
@@KatelandVu Hard to remember it's been so long, but I think one or both was from a shop at Tanforan Mall back in 2013
I was at the pick at the stick with my mom when I had just turned 18 and to this day it’s my favorite memory I have with her, candlestick will forever be home ❤️
That moment was insanity
As a Raiders fan I respect Candlestick Park
You should you guys played there too hahaha
@@vvarietyshow dang I didn’t know that but it wasn’t for long anyway. The coliseum will be viewed as our home even over the LA memorial stadium
This brings tears to my eyes. You did such a great job capturing how important Candlestick Park was for so many.
Thank you so much 🙏
Totally disagree. As a Bay Area native, Monster/3com park was a sh!thole. Much preferred watching games in Oakland until the Mt Davis atrocity was built. Saw 3 football games at the stick and the sight angles were so bad. Yes the Niners were amazing but the stadium had nothing to do with it.
Im a die-hard Dodger fan but absolutely LOVED the Stick!!! I miss the true energy of the Giants-Dodgers rivalry. I miss the mud, broken pavement, cigarette smoke, freezing July nights watching Valenzuela vs. LaCoss! Nothing beats it! … Of course the Niners games were epic as well. True hardcore Niners fans were in their true element there at the Stick. Levi stadium is not the same.
Agreed bro. Dodgers Stadium had that feeling before the billion dollar renovations too. Something special about the big concrete dumps. It's about the people and memories
@@vvarietyshowYou guys respect the rivalry, the best in all of baseball!
Favorite memory at the Stick was the fights between Raiders and Niners fans in the parking lot 😂
hahaha
I talked to a security guy once and said there were more fights at Raiders,49ers games than any other games
Mom passed in ‘06…every single game with her and my family at this stadium were some of the best memories of my life….made that Playoff game against the Saints, Smith to Davis on the goal line, so much more impactful.
Solid video dude 🤜
Appreciate you! Those memories are priceless.
Dude, walking through the tunnel and getting the first view of the field before a Giants game. That gave me chills. I remember the feeling of seeing that for the first time. Core memory for sure. 1987 season against the Padres.
Great video, man. 🤙🏽
It was literally my favorite part of the experience. The first walk out.
I watched so many games at Candlestick Park! My first game was in 1976. I was fortunate enough to sit with the wives of the Dallas Cowboy players at the back of the end zone during the Dwight Clark the catch❤ Thanks to Jamie Sardella's stepdad, who was head of security ❤❤. I was able to meet all the star players and Bill Walsh. I will never forget that day.
That is awesome! Wish I could see their reactions when it happened. Thank you for sharing 🙏
Thank you for doing this. Sad. I remember being a 13-14 year old going to Giants games FREEZING at night screaming BEAT LA in the early 60s. That was only one thing. Giants/9ers....being a native SFer. Stylin in the 80s when we were the wine sippin 9er fans, with Jennifer Montana in the stands. Forgetting where I parked my car later a few times, lol. Windy as hell but it was SF.
Nothing better. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories.
Unbelievable job on Candlestick. We grew up in the same era and I miss the Stick so much. My father took me to my first Giants game in the freezing cold with hotdog wrappers. So many great memories. I went to the last Giants game there before they moved home plate to PacBell Park. I also went to the last ever playoff game just like you when Kaepernick ran wild over the Packers. You did a hell of a job getting so many great clips from so many great sporting events that took place at the Stick. The Niners should still be playing there to this day. Levi’s will never be the Stick. It’s sad they couldn’t even build anything there and that place has stayed vacant for years. Not even any statues or landmarks. What a shame. Niners need to do something with that land and bring it back where they belong. Keep up the good work.
Appreciate you! Those memories will never be topped, we all have our era... and after I filmed this I found out another development plan is in the works. Hopefully they do something to preserve the history.
@ch-yq5yn yeah kids whose parents work in Silicon Valley. It will never be a dual sport stadium like Candlestick was with the history that took place there. Nor will it be part of San Francisco tradition. Great it will have concerts and a Super Bowl but it will never have that tradition the Stick created good or bad. Nobody will remember Levi’s except how poorly the parking was set up and how they can’t build shade on one side of the stadium because of the airport.
@@user-vz3dl2en6sTHIS! Omg dude it's just got too many lame aspects, the place sucks, and is far af away
There is sadness in tearing down an arena or stadium. The memory of fathers taking sons to their first games, epic plays and players, the sights and smells......all to be torn down and to be forgotten.
It's surreal
I was born in 63' and grew up in SF and then SSF. I became a fan when Plunkett was QB. My first Niner game was in 79'. Montana backed up Deberg. Great video, awesome memories.
Thank you for checking it out 🙏
I’m from NYC. The first NFL game I attended was at Candlestick Park when the Bills beat the 49ers in 1992. I was 8 years old visiting the Bay Area for the first time. The 49ers fans were nice to me even though I was a Bills fan rooting against their team. I’m still bummed that I didn’t get to see the GOAT QB Montana play live, but I did get to see Steve Young in his 1st MVP season.
That's awesome! Those Bills teams were so fun
I’m an AZ Cardinals fan, and was able to attend that 2007 opening day Monday night game in San Fran. We got harassed like no other, but was an awesome experience. Glad I was able to see Candlestick. Also was able to attend a Giants game there. You guys are our rivals in Football and baseball just because we wish we had that history. Nothing but respect.
We are fun divisional rivals. We compete and both get to root for eachother when playing the Dodgers 😂😂😂
As a niner fan since John Brodie was slinging them to Gene Washington, and who was fortunate to be at the last home game against the hated Rams, this video brings back fond memories as I recognized one landmark or hint of a landmark after another. The tailgating atmosphere in the dirt parking lot, getting misdirected up onto the hillside road while trying to figure out the right way to a parking lot, the view of the bay, the December sun cooking the fans on one end. Still haven't been to the new stadium; all my memories were tied up in the Stick.
I'll always miss it 🕯️🙏
Thanks for reminiscing……the memories are some that will forever be with me. I too was there the day the big earthquake happened October 17th, 1989…..Battle of the Bay…..people leaving the stadium that day were actually very calm….Candlestick held up for the most part…..i remember that there were no cell phones back then and we learn about the Bay Bridge collapse on this portable antenna TV that a person had a couple rows down from us. Then the TV screen went black. It was a scary drive home on 280….to Cupertino…..we ran into a huge hole in the road on 280 and believe or not very few cars were out…..everyone was home getting ready to watch the game. It was a day i will never forget.
Wild day! Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
Although Levis stadium has much nicer grass, I truly miss Candlestick Park. So many of my favorite football memories were ingrained from that field. The Dirty Harry scene on Candlestick was also epic.
I can’t even begin to explain the flood of memories that comes back every time I think of the Stick. I was 12 the first time I saw the Giants in ‘73. From there it was watching the Niners and Giants play some incredible games. Great video fellas!
Appreciate you watching and sharing your memories!
Very good tribute to a park that housed so many sports memories. I'm like you...I cherish historic locations where history took place. I grew up in Santa Clara and went to at least a dozen Giants games and 4 or 5 49er games including Joe Montana's final game as a 49er. I have a piece of asphalt from Fremont Drag Strip off Durham Rd. and a piece of concrete from Winterland Ballroom (Post and Steiner S.F.) when it was being torn down in 1985. I've also been to Pearl Harbor 35 years after Japanese planes were bombing it in 1976..been to many Civil War battlefields back east...Custer's Last Stand...and many other places thinking "wow...that actually happened right here!" It's a mindblower to see your video of what's left of Candlestick Park...all that happened there...almost like ghosts are still running around. BTW...I commented on your video when you visited Agnew State Hospital. I installed many of the 1 ft. square ceiling tiles laying all over the floor there. That brought back memories, too!
Man you have some great artifacts and stories! Thank you as always for sharing, it makes it so much better sharing my videos when I get to hear other stories and experiences too. Makes it all connect for me.
You probably are a bit young to recall Winterland Ballroom. It opened in 1928 as an ice-skating arena. Rock promoter Bill Graham began having concerts there 9/23/1966 and ended 12/31/1978 with a capacity of 5,400. There were 611 (give or take a couple) concerts there during that time. I went to 11 shows beginning in 1970. I have a complete list of all the concerts...day, year, and performers. Back in the day it was typical to see three bands (sometimes four) in one show. Almost every band except Elvis and the Beatles performed there...including Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Doors, Led Zeppelin, Cream, on and on and on! What sits there now at Post & Steiner (S.F.) are apartments. I've heard there is a plaque in the lobby commemorating the site was where Winterland stood. I happen to be in the city when the wrecking ball was knocking it down. That's how I picked up a piece of concrete from one of the walls. Lots of rock history happened there! @@vvarietyshow
@@sunking2001that's incredible! I have heard of Winterland Ballroom but never researched it too much. I was just looking into stuff about the old Fox Theater that was torn down. There was also Circlestar down in Redwood City that was torn down when I was a kid. So many historic venues long gone
Yes, there are. I've been to the Circle Star theater once back in the mid 80's. The Stage rotated slowly so everyone in the audience had equal viewing sights. Luckily, the Cow Palace survived being demolished. It opened in 1941 and has hosted thousands and thousands of concerts, events, sports, shows...you name it. The Beatles played there two times in '64 & '65 and the venue also has a very lengthy list of concerts that happened there. Sadly...the Oakland Coliseum and Arena will be a "memory from the past" with lengthy histories of sports, concerts, and events. Keep up the good videos.@@vvarietyshow
Thank you for taking me back down memory lane we lived on San Bruno Ave. San Francisco back in the day and used to walk to the STICK we used to go fishing by the entrance and where I learned to drive and later where I learned my CDL CLASS 1 . I remember the wind and the cold very well. I thought I was having a heart attack when they named it 3 com park WTF . Boy I miss the STICK lots of great memories!! ❤
I'll always miss it 🕯️🙏
Thanx for the memories. I spent time as a fan, and as part of the working press at 'The Stick'.
Those shots from the press box brought back the good times covering the 49ers & Giants.
That is so cool
This was a very well done video. I got chills and teary eyed at some points.
I always feel a void and sadness when I drive up 101 and see the void in where Candlestick used to be...
I'm glad you felt the same as us. I still tear up.
Thank you for this video - the memories are coming back like a great flood watching this - the place was electric- the crowd was the OG FAITHFULS - and the tailgating was memorable- the culture that the stick had will never be matched - my heart will always be faithful to the stick
Thank you for checking it out... I'll always cherish these memories and will always miss it.
I still can't get used to not seeing candlestick from the car when I am on 101. It was this constant from my childhood on to adulthood and then one day it disappeared. Had so many good memories of the 'stick.
Always my favorite part of any drive on 101
Great video love the history! I remember watching game 3 when the quake hit!!👏👏👏
I was at daycare lol
Amazing video!!!
Candlestick Stick is rich with sports history and I still can’t believe it’s been ten years since the 49ers had their final season there.
I have a lot of fond memories of seeing the Giants play in 1997 aka the Worst to First season.
The only time I ever saw the Giants play there.
So many great 49er moments with Montana to Clark, to the rivalries with the Cowboys and Packers to the Harbaugh years and WAY more.
The Blackout game vs the Steelers was also memorable!
Thank you Dylan for making this epic video.
Tell it bye bye to Candlestick.
Thank you as always Jacob! This place had such a rich history it's crazy

Beautifully done. Respect The Stick. I recall seeing Will the Thrill hit his first homer in the Stick off Nolan Ryan. Watched Marichal with his high kick, Mays and his speed, McCovey and his sweet swing. Earned a hatful of Croixs.
Awesome history
I’ve been a Giants and 49’ers fan since 1970.My mom and dad took me to my first Giants game and I couldn’t wait to see the players who I had watched on tv and when I opened the doors to get to our seats I saw the playing field and players warming up and was mesmerized by how everything looked to me as a 10 year old kid. Will never forget that day and all the other games I attended over the years.Like you I have so many great memories of Candlestick and watching your video it really takes you back in time.Candlestick Park may be gone but the memory’s and good times I had there will be with me till my last breath.

Even as a packers fan this place is special to me. Wish I would have been able to go to a game there. Who knows, maybe in 15 years they will build a new stadium there. But the truth is that great moments and games give stadiums their mystique. But honestly, nothing beats the geography of candlestick point. Great vid!
Thank you and I agree
Wow, the memories came flooding back. Awesome video of a trip down memory lane!
Glad you liked it!
I watched the NFC divisional round there with my dad in 1994 against the NY Giants for Phil Simms' last game. Niners won 44-3. Moved away from Cali the next year but will never forget that day!!
Phil Simms went straight to the broadcast booth after that stomping 😂😂😂
Great video brother! Put a tear in my eye. I will never forget my first game there. I sat directly behind Jennifer Montana on the 50 yard line. The 1990 Monday Night Football game was a memory maker for sure as was the 1989 NLCS against the Cubs. So Many Chicago Cubs Memories ⚾
And Still Counting
Remember The Cubs Going Out To 🕯️ Candlestick and Getting Swept out of the NLCS by the Giants in 1989 (went to both games at Wrigley Field Gm1 and Gm 2) Also went to the 1 Gm Play In to get into the Playoffs in 1998 vs Giants at Wrigley Field and was at Wrigley the day Barry Bonds hit 2 home runs during his record breaking year
Little Bit of History with the Giants vs Cubs ⚾💯
I want to see Wrigley soooo bad
Went to many many giants games, only one niners, but my all time favorite memory was being up near that top concrete on opening day 93 watching Barry Bonds hit his first homer as a Giant with my dad.
The lead up to that day was crazy with the Giants almost going to Florida only to be saved last minute.
My dad talking all post season about how amazing it would be if we picked up Bonds but how unlikely it would be, he still had that glimmer of hope in his eye though.
Then sure enough his wish came true and we somehow got tickets to see his first game and our team we almost lost.
I remember it was Bond's first at bat, I could swear it seemed like the first pitch but we could never remember correctly, and he just blasted one and the place went nuts. My dad with a huge grin on his face looked down at me between high fives and said, "This is a sign of things to come."
We had no idea at the time how right he was going to be about that.
I love that Bonds highlight! He destroyed it
My home sweet home!❤️🏈💛🧡⚾️🖤 I miss the Stick! So many memories!

I saw my first game watching the Niners and Jerry Rice there in 1999. After that I went to more games but before they tore it down I took a behind the scenes tour of the locker room and field and owners box ect..with a group of other people. I was the only one to think to bring a football out there so we all definitely had some fun on the field. Great memories!
Awesome memories
Thanks for doing this. For all of its warts, I miss Candlestick a lot. My favorite memory was marching with the Cal Band at half time in 1981. We were actually invited for the NFC Championship Game (the one with The Catch), but NFL said no show due to the poor condition of the grass.
That's so cool what an incredible memory!
Nice tribute! Spent much of my youth and young adult life at Niner & Giants games. It's surrreal to see what's left -the old signage, barren land, and other debris. So sad that the Niners bailed for that dump in Santa Clara. Much better fate for the Giants who got their much-needed stadium IN the city much earlier.
It's so surreal walking around

This is a great memorial video for Candlestick, the Niners and Giants. TBH, I got a bit teary eyed watching it. Lets not forget the "OOOH Licks" that Lott delivered every time he stepped on this ground. Or Kaepernick rushing around defenses when they had no answers for him. Montana surgically moving the chains like a general. Rice making circus catches, causing our crowd to loose their sh*t... Young running around knocking down camara guys after finally spanking those guys. I always remember driving up through the hood, looking for parking, the walk, and finally going up the escalators. The signs, the wind and cloudy days, all the red and gold... you knew you had arrived.

I'm at work, in Phoenix AZ. I went to the final season, watched the Niners beat the Pack for the first game of that season. Watching this, its like I'm there with you brother. GO NINERS!!!
That was a good game 🙏
Great editing of nostalgic clips. Beautifully done with a sweet soundtrack. Thank you for this love letter to the stick!
I appreciate the kind words 🕯️🙏
This is a very awesome video with such nostalgia i hope the 49ers win there 6th superbowl soon
me too my friend, me too
This stadium is where the 49ers dynasty began against the Cowboys, its also where the 90s Cowboys dynasty began against the Niners!
They beat us up those early 90s games but we got the last laugh
Fantastic video! My first visits to Candlestick were in the early ‘70s to watch the 49ers. Berkeley Farms had a “Junior 49er” ticket giveaway program for kids and I was lucky to win them several times. The funny thing was the section where the seats were located, you could only see about 2/3 of the field. I didn’t care, it was fun seeing John Brodie, Gene Washington and all the legendary players of the time. They were like superheroes to me with the uniforms and helmets. The only negative is that we always seemed to be playing the Rams, and Roman Gabriel and company would always beat us. Later when I grew up, I was lucky to get season tickets. Stopped being a season ticket holder when they moved to Santa Clara. So many great memories of Niners and Giants games. Wish I could share my video of the last Niners game played at the Stick - fireworks, “When the Lights Go Down in The City”…😢. Thanks so much for putting this video together!
Great memories!
Thank you, I was born 3/29/58 in San Jose I almost missed opening day. I grew up loving the Giants and still do. I was in my seat at the stick when the earthquake hit. My best friend and I stayed at the park all night walking all around the Stick to see for ourselves how badly damaged she was. We watched the helicopters fly in and out as they were checking the damage. Thanks again, the memories bring tears.
Because of the earthquake the 9er Patriot game was moved to Stanford which made 10,000 more tickets. We were able to go, sadly that was the day Strong Safety Jeff Fuller got his neck broken. It was hard times. Lott and Fuller what a pair. 49ers what can I say? the best! same heart as the Giants. There is a documentary on TH-cam called It was their time. A lot of it is about John McGraw and the early Giants, if you are not careful it could bring tears.
As a Seahawks fan some of the best games in the Hawks-49ers rivalry were at the Stick all of the early 2010’s were great I actually can’t believe it’s been 10 years
I was at that Thursday night game where we beat eachother up good in 2012
People refused to call it 3Com Park to the point that even the TV and Radio would call it Candlestick. They would always, at least say formerly or at Candlestick Point, but "nobody" called it by the sell-out name.
yeah 3Com and Monster lmao
@@vvarietyshow - It is disgusting that after 10 years, nothing has been done to replace the spot. Doesn't Kezar stadium still exist? It is sad that a grass Bill Walsh field at Candle stick point doesn't still exist to run and throw the ball around in.
I was lucky to go once, the first week back after 9/11, and have front row tickets with my dad to watch the 49ers host the Rams.
I didn't grow up in wealth and only had that one chance. We lived north of Sacramento, so that moment will love with me forever. I don't even live in the USA,but what I wouldn't give to be able to step on the grass of a park where that field once stood and toss the ball around before I die. I hope they develop that area.
I lived in Union City from 1991 to 1993, and worked in Santa Clara about 2 blocks from the 49ers practice field, I was walking across the street and a bad ass car had Flash-80 on it, I looked closer and yes it was Jerry Rice….Candlestick was my first Pro Baseball and Football game….My first pro Football game was the 1992 game between The Bills & 49ers (No Punts and over a 1,000 yards of Offense). I became a fan of the 49ers… Great Memories!!! Great job on this upload…..
I literally grew up in the stick, as my family worked in the 49ers stadium suites , my parents would bring me to work and id sleep in the office I would go to the stick everyday afterschool I would roam the suites, i even played in the field a couple times . I have so many memories, I also learned how to drive my car inside then stadium parking because we had the keys to the gates, i worked there 5 years but I would go since i was 6 as my parents would bring me to work, the last season I joined the marines, id would playing in the press box with my cousins whos parents also worked there, the stick was my home, i also worked all the playoffs except the last season as i was in boot camp at the time. seeing it gone breaks my heart, not only did i get to see the 49ers but i got to see Barcelona train Real Madrid train and some great concerts. I am truly blessed to have been able to experience all that thank you candlestick and everyon i met there.
Pick at the Stick
Great memory
The earthquake was game 3 of the World Series.
I brainfarted
I was thinking first game at Candlestick and boo booed
My Dad first acquired our 4 season ticketed seats in 1980, I was 7yrs old. The 4 seats right behind the 3rd base dugout, Section 6 Seats 1-4. I grew up going every home game til I enlisted after 9/11 and deployed twice to Iraq in over 8yrs in the Army. Attended Super Bowl XIX when I was 11yrs old, sat 5 rows up behind the 49ers bench on about the 44yrd line. My brother and I used to crawl on top of the dugout when the Niners ran onto the field from the locker room, and #88 Jesse Solomon was the first player to slap my hand as the squad ran by...Watchin my Dad, who we lost recently, screaming when it was Montana-to-Rice and Ronnie Lott knock RB's silly when hit em are my fondest memories...Go NINERS
The Catch....absolutely devastating to us Cowboys fans. Thanks for sharing my friend. Dang, can't believe I called a 9ers fan a friend. Oh well, glad you did this because we sure get old....stay safe, y'all got quite a team this year
I had to sleep on the roof of my car to wait for a ticket stub handed out by SFPD to get a chance to buy at ticket for 82NFC Playoffs. Played football in the parking lot. So many memories
Thanks for bringing them back.
Born raised in SF and saw great wins there.
That is such a great memory thank you for sharing.
They should have kept the stick. Levis stadium is horrible.
BILL WALSH FIELD!!!!
What a champ
I am from Cleveland Ohio and I grew up going to both Browns and Indians (at the time) at Cleveland Municipal Stadium that place will always mean the world to me I have a connection with that place like you have with Candlestick.
No doubt! Wish I could go back and time and see some games there too
Nfl you made me emotional over stadium that is on another side of the world and i havent ever been to it. Still i am huge 49ers fan so i know how special this stadium was just never got to chance to see it in person like you. And there is something special about having so many memories in one special place. I find that not many people can connect to places like that but this video just shows how proud and happy you are that you were part of this special place!
Thank you! And it's all good I never got to see Seal Stadium or the Polo Grounds but I still feel a connection 🙏
Levis sucks Niners need to just rebuild there. Candlestick 2.0 opening 2033
I'm down
It’s pretty obvious it will happen in our lifetime
I never got to see a game in person at candlestick but it was one of my favorite places to watch a game on TV. Even through the television you could feel the electric atmosphere! It breaks my heart that all these old stadiums and arenas are being torn down and replaced with modern fancy stadiums that are more profitable for team owners. The venue quality might be better, the seats cushier, screens bigger but its not a sufficient replacement for atmosphere which is something that cannot be replicated with any amount of money! I grew up going to see the Bills at Rich stadium and im so bummed that my childhood stadium will also be replaced soon. Thanks for sharing these stories and images!
It's not about the quality of the venue, it's about the quality of the people, the players, the moments. Had to cancel my Buffalo trip last year due to the epic snowstorm but I'll get to The Ralph eventually.
My favorite memories are 1 my first game 9er game Dec 4th 1994 a lopsided win over the Falcons. 2 Hearing Candlestick erupt when Jerry Rice was introduced after tearing his ACL the year before and Garrison Hearst’s 96 yard touchdown run in OT over Bill Parcels Jets. 3 Home game 2 against the Marlins 1993 my first glimpse of the new bleachers installed right behind the out field fence and seeing the Greatness that was Barry Bonds debut as Giant. But I will miss the most is the tailgating with my Uncle and his friends before and after games and like your self we became Kings of the dirt lot every time we feasted. Thanks for the tribute you told the story of this beloved stadium well and recaptured the essence.
Appreciate you sharing your memories
This was 🔥🔥🔥 Thank you so much. So many memories flooding back to me
Made it to 8:30 before I got too emotional to watch -- old timer here, saw numerous Niners games, the Rolling Stones, untold Giants games (bleacher creatures!), and one of my proudest moments, when my son's second grade class from Commodore Sloat Elementary School sang the National Anthem and then we got to watch the game from the first base line in 1997. I was also there for McCartney's final concert -- parked all the way in Visitacion Valley and took a shuttle bus to the park. Your videography and narration is beautiful. Thank you, guys.
I appreciate you. I hope you can finish sometime 🙏🕯️
This is awesome bro. I'm so glad you made this. The history, etc. Love it.
Great memories, love this place. My first season I attended games was the year of "The Catch" at four years old. My family owned 6 season tickets and I bought two of them for 16 years. LOVE MY NINERS..... BANG BANG
You got to see all the greats!
Thank you Thank you Thank you!!! Great job capturing what Candlestick meant to so many of us growing up in the 80's and 90's
As a lifelong Niner fan since the 80s, this made me cry. I was there for many many games. And with my little brother was there for the last game too. Thank you for the memories. Will never forget Candlestick.
Never! Thank you for sharing I'm glad you feel the same as we do
Gotta admit.... i haven't watched a video about a point of my childhood that made me tear up like this. This was a great video!!! I have too many gret memories of the Stick and 49ers games and a few Giants games. Great job with this video. I only have 1 correction for you. The Earthquake in 89 happened just before Game 3, not Game 1.
You are right, and I said it years ago when they were going to leave the stick, this is one of the Meccas for the NFL.
I miss it too. Miss it so much, but Levi is starting to get that vibe and we must never forget our historic past and bring it along with us to Levi. Levi in my books is now Candlestick South. 😃
Appreciate the kind words, I'm glad so many feel the same as I do.
Tried to correct the World Series game error in comment, just a brainfart when filming and didn't think about it while editing.
I HATED the 49ers growing up I was a huge Cowboys fan. The Catch Number 1 broke my 10 year old heart. It pissed me off that the Cowboys let it happen , so I stopped liking them too. And The Stick is where it happened, so I hated that place too.
Who knew , decades later, I would move to Central CA, get to know the Bay Area, and become a 49ers fan.
But this tribute was absolutely amazing. My hate has turned to love. The Bay Area is magical. And you brought The Stick to life. I appreciate this so much.
Very well done. I grew up a Giants/49'er fan in the 60's. This brought back plenty of memories. Thank you for doing this.
Thanks for all the great memories. Favorite memory is Joe Morgan's home run against the Dodgers in 1982. My wife bought me two seats from Candlestick when they tore it down. I sit in them every week.
That's great! RIP Joe Morgan
Dope video man. I love the historical context you provided and seeing what it means to you. Captures the way we are all so attached to our local sporting venues, especially those that are no longer standing but alive in our hearts and memories. Learning about old stadiums is a favorite topic of mine. Glad I found this video.
Thank you for such a great video. So many amazing memories of going to Giants and Niners games…I felt every bit of those memories you shared and those highlight videos.
Fantastic video. I live in New York but I was at Candlestick Park twice in 1995. One time was for a Giants game and the other was the 49ers home opener against the Falcons after they won their 5th Super Bowl. I became a die-hard 49ers fan exactly 42 years ago today when Dwight Clark made The Catch. I've been hooked ever since. Even though I was at the stadium twice back in 1995, most of my memories of Candlestick Park were watching 49ers games on TV. So many great games. It's hard to believe I became a 49ers fan over 40 years ago. Time goes so fast. I do remember a couple of nights before I saw the 49ers home opener in '95, I went to a Expos/Giants game a few nights before and freezing my butt off. It was cold and windy that night. I certainly don't have the memories you do of going to so many games but your video does bring back incredible memories. Great job. Go 49ers!!
