static electricity can't kill a person
@Paulo Clyde Catipay it certainly can,if the person has a pacemaker...
HE IS ELECTROGOD
electroboom isnt a pc.
The fact that the first test killed the RAM, really shows that, ESD may not kill your components most of the time, but it only takes one time to kill the component.
Yes and the fact that people simply ignores it is so annoying, it's something completely avoidable
@Tee Hee at that point you're just shit out of luck
Did he kill it though? I didn't see him test it before he shocked. It could have been non working before. He was just taking the companies word for it that it was working that gave it to him.
@Tee Hee been building pcs for over 20 years and have not been grounding myself for 15 years. All of my personal pcs have been fine and have never failed. I do think that pc components did mess up from static electricy prior to 2007-08. So I believe that is where this whole static theory came from. But now today I believe it is a myth.
@Tee Hee that's what you have been told all these years so keep doing you. Lol. I'm just telling you, as I have built thousands of computers of my own and not one has shorted out. I don't think I'm that lucky. But good luck

Both of my fave tech tubers colab hahaha I love this!.
Amazing video, both of you, lmao...Thank you so much for putting up with all that pain.
I've worked inside PCs since 286 and I've never even touched a disconnected ESD strap to move it out of the way. Literally never even laid hands on one. I've also never killed a device with ESD.
My dad just taught me that when you're working on a PC, you touch the chassis (especially if it's plugged into the wall - but it shouldn't be, and so do it anyway to get on the same level!) very often, and do what you can to never touch contacts and traces on boards you're handling - just touch the edges, like old photographs. That way, you minimize your differential charge to the piece you're handling and maximize your distance to where it could arc to you. That's what we did before things were designed smartly.
On the other hand, my Mom's TV survived a nearby lightning strike that made her home's doorknob spark(!!) Her TV died. I opened it up and there was a special gap on the board for arcing extra power. It had a black scorched blast mark across it! I replaced a blown fuse and most of the TV still worked after that. Modern electronics engineers are pretty f'n rad tbh. Much respect for that kind of foresight.
RAM still alive after being tortured for more than 5 tests.

WHEN IS YOUR NEW VIDEO COMING OUT?
I got the 420th like on this comment.
Having been an electronics technician for a very long time I've had quite a lot of experience with static damage. The built in protections nowadays will save you 999/1000. But, what doesn't get much attention is that even though the static didn't kill it, there is the possibility of light damage that causes a microscopic hot spot and current leakage that causes infrequent instability especially in ram. It can cause random crashes that happen at given times or can cause the damage to gradually get worse until full failure.
Officially my favorite video so far. Informational. Legit experiment with great comedic relief. Can't ask for anything better. But now I wanna be shocked in the name of science.

That what exactly happened
“I can’t make it lethal *unfortunately*”
"Sorry"
Yes thank you for just quoting the video and nothing else it really contributes a lot to humanity and has changed my life forever
@@lemau8458 Oh was this not up to your standard? Well, let me try again.
You see, part of shared experiences includes sharing what parts you enjoy. On a platform like TH-cam, it's common for people to call out which parts they liked in comments. Comments then appear as text at the bottom of videos, which other viewers can read and then relate to (or not). Other users can even reply (hence me now writing this in reply to your reply; a re-reply as it were).
In this case, I found it funny when Electroboom made the above quoted comment, but specifically when he said "unfortunately." You see, this was amusing because it implies that he would find it fortunate if it could be lethal. Of course, we all know that normal people don't want to have a lethal shock gun, and that's where the humor derives.
Now, in my comment I made a subtle distinction in the quote. I put asterisks (*) around the word "unfortunately." These asterisks are used to emphasize a particular word. However, it would seem my efforts had failed as you assumed I was simply quoting the video.
Accursed written language and it's lack of nuance! If only you could have *heard* me emphasize that word, perhaps we would not be having this discussion!
But now you are aware of what said asterisks mean. I hope this has enriched your understanding of the nuances of TH-cam comments. Moreover, I deeply hope that this comment is more up to your standards of contributing to your day.
Good day, sir or madam.
styropyro probably can
Everyone in the studio: ??????
These are both of my favorite TH-camrs. It brings tech and electric together.
yeah
As you said several times, the discharge can be to the ground plane, which avoids the sensitive bits. It is also possible under that circumstance that an adjacent active component is partially stressed, and that that shock can partially damage the circuit. You may not see the failure straight away, but it could manifest itself some years down the line. The only way to characterize that sort of damage is by looking at the MTBFs of the abused components. I also seem to remember some years ago where IBM or such like had an electron micrograph showing a partially vaporized metal layer within an IC highlighting this problem.

electroboom is the embodiment of “whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”
This guy (electroboom), will give me a heart attack.
Thata why hes so strong
When is the saying actually true though?
@@iLumberjack It is always true.
Think about it this way: What is bad for you kills you and what is good for you makes you stronger.
"that which is bad for you" = "that which kills you".
"that which is good for you" = "that which makes you stronger".
Therefore you can remove the redundancy. You will end up with this list (!) of two concepts: That which kills you and that which makes you stronger.
That which kills you is the opposite of that which makes you stronger, so to end up with the saying in question, you will have to negate one of the concepts:
That which kills you does NOT make you stronger.
Or:
That which does NOT kill you makes you stronger.
@@Kenjuudo if I lose my leg in a tragic moose accident, there's a good chance I'll live. But I'm not stronger with one leg than I was with two.
If I get a random respiratory infection and don't die, there's a good possibility that my lungs will be permanently damaged. I'm not dead, but I'm definitely not stronger.
If I survive heat stroke, I'm more susceptible to future heat-related injury versus someone who has never had heat stroke. I'm not suddenly better able to handle heat.
I'm not sure where this saying actually works.
This was very funny. I was laughing so hard. Thank for the content. This was definitely a good mix of fun and education all in the same video. Now I know what not to do when trying to remove and install components to my PC.
Do not shoot yourself with a static electricity gun while modifying your PC.
I had this awful gaming mouse I got as a quick replacement. Long boring story short, I bought a gaming mouse. It had a piece that ran down its middle but was sunken in such that it was usually not being touched. My house was a static factory and when my finger would hit the metal my mouse would go wonky and I would have to unplug it and plug it back in again. It was the shortest amount of time I ever had a mouse.

If u worked for Intel u would have worked on cpus, ESD on cpus is even more unlikely usually its a random part on moobo.

I left it sticking out without noticing and my puppy got to it (probably pulled until the drawer was open enough for the package to come out) he took it to a bed and munched it for God knows how long, I wasn't home at the time. It was well packaged but he poked a hole deep enough to leave the modules exposed. Upon closer inspection I was ready to toss them out as they were a couple contacts missing on each of them. But a spark of curiosity made me test them, not only did the system POST, it did pass 4 rounds of memtest86 with no errors (maybe them having heatsinks also made them more invulnerable) but I was shocked to say the least
