    It looks like the laundry detergent did as well if not better than the zinc. Did you use a baking soda+laundry detergent combo like you mentioned in another video with copper gutters?

      Might have needed to put more on and give it some more time, next test would be to use bleach versus zinc

    Hey bro love your videos, I am running my own gutter business and im running into algae on clay tiles or asphalt shingle that seem to be stuck on there what can I do to get it off?

    • @powerwashprofessor
      @powerwashprofessor ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually ( most cases that we personally deal with ) clay tiles are growing lichen. Lichen is a bit more resistant to chem than algae or mold. When we deal with lichen, we always make sure the client knows what it is, and why it's going to take a bit longer to fully die off/ disintegrate and achieve expected results.

    Where I am guys mainly us sodium hypochlorite. I’ve heard that zinc is more toxic. I’m curious what your thoughts are in terms of the difference. I’ve heard zinc powder you are actually supposed to dilute in hot water first. Another person says if you sprinkle it on straight it can leave streaks. Also one said that it also destroyed their work truck after a while from a bit of overspray (truck had holes eaten threw it) and that it’s not covered under any roofing warranty. Just curious your thoughts on all that.

    • @SpencerClaeys
      @SpencerClaeys  ปีที่แล้ว

      Up here pretty much everyone uses zinc, I haven’t had any issues with it it’s usually the SH that corrodes my tools haha but they’re both somewhat toxic just make sure it doesn’t end up directly into a river and itll be fine

    DON'T USE LAUNDRY DETERGENT ON YOUR ROOF!!! Trust me. I've been installing roofs for 40 years. It's the zinc that kills moss, but laundry detergent has other chemicals in it that breaks down the tar in your roof shingles (if you have roof shingles). The majority of my customers, that have roof leaks, are due to them using detergents on their roof. You can buy a 40lb sack of zinc sulfate for about $75 and it will go MUCH farther than the small can of Moss Out. One bag will last five years or so (five applications).

      @davidsmith5704 Is Moss out liquid a good product to use..? I purchased a bottle of it, and a container to to mix with water, (like a pesticides spray container). I only have an area maybe 15×15 section, that it needs to be applied to. Any insightful help, is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time sir.

    • @davidsmith5704
      @davidsmith5704 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@huckstaunfiltered8200 I never said Moss out wasn't a good product. Its just WAAAAY overpriced. You can buy a 40lb bag of :Zinc Sulphate and a section the size of yours that bag would last the rest of your life practically lol. Just mix the powder with water and you have the same ingredients as Moss out for pennies on the dollar. That was my point.

    • @hpartsch
      @hpartsch 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Where do you typically get such a big bag for that price?

    • @davidsmith5704
      @davidsmith5704 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It looks like Wilco its up to $119 for 50lbs, but that is still WAAAY cheaper than the Moss Out and cheaper than ruining your roof with laundry detergent.

    • @hpartsch
      @hpartsch 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@davidsmith5704 thanks, that's what I found too. I wanted to make sure there wasn't a better store/supplier. Thoughts on zinc versus baking soda? I've been putting baking soda on the entire roof each year, using a bucket with holes drilled in the bottom. Takes me a few hours but seems to work well. Not sure if the zinc application would be quicker to apply or use less? Pound power pound, baking soda from Costco is cheaper.
