    Just use vinegar. It will kill the moss 100% and it’s cheap and pet friendly. 500ml (30p) bottle mixed with 300ml of water in a sprayer..Within 2 weeks the moss will begin to die and start to turn brown/ black. Some expensive path & patio cleaning product contain just this one ingredient (but on their label it’s called by the chemical name Acetic acid which is plain vinegar). Hope this helps. Been using it for decades.

    • @Premier_lawns_official

      Hypo is really hard on sprayers. If I'm using it, it's through a watering can. If I'm spraying with a knapsack it's an algicide
      You also have to factor on what happens if a hose or similar fails and you have that knapsack on your back with hypo in it

    I have a shaded driveway which suffers badly with green algae. I have a video doorbell and can literally watch it get greener every day. I powerwash it every year to clean it up, it never dawned on me that this was a possibility. I discovered this video and bought some biocide and put some down on Saturday afternoon. Its now Monday and its alll gone. Literally zero effort. Thanks so much for this video, like button has been well and truly smashed.

    As someone who runs a jetwash business i would point out that jet washing tarmac drives isn't as bad as it is made out to be the issue is regular jet washing (yearly) that leads to damage, a good one off power clean with a biocide post treatment is absolutely fine, then it comes down to maintenance, 12-24 month biocide treatment or sometimes sooner in problem areas, a good jetwash every 5 years is absolutely fine if needed (some people dont maintaine their driveways at all like having it resealed every 3-5 years, not even sweeping it) also tarmac driveways tend to last about 15-20 years if looked after at which point sometimes its the organic growth holding it together then no matter what method you use it will cause damage (which is when i turn down the job and recommend resurfacing), there are cowboys or inexperienced people with jet washers that dont know how to clean tarmac or know when to not to take on a job, they use the incorrect nozzles or to much pressure and they are the ones that i personally think have given jetwashing a bad name/method, and ive noticed gardeners tend to have a dislike for jetwash companies which again is down to bad practice with hypo, it happens with all trades, the decorator will slag off the plsterer, the plasterer with slag off the drywaller, the drywaller will slag off the framer/bricklayer and so on, no matter what tradesman you have come do work for you its a gamble on if they are good at what they do or not.

    I do agree about not using bleach on tarmac driveways, I classify tarmac into two categories, black and grey, black driveways that are say five years old or less and grey that are older.
    The mistake I saw a customer do was use hypoclorite on a patio but the run off caused clean mark stain marks on the tarmac. If they had of wetted the tarmac first and kept it wet this would not have happened.

    Excellent stuff. One quick thing I was hoping you could help on is.....I recently blasted out all remnants (sand, dirt, weeds etc) with my turbo nozzle pressure washer to get all cleaned and put polymeric sand in between the joints of my lockblock driveway. Looks great. A few months passed and moss is starting to settle on top of the joints and some grasses look like they're either on top or might have survived the pressure washer and sanding and are poking through my sand. I'm reluctant to pull the grasses as it'll create holes in the sand so my question is, is there a biocide or algicide that can deal with the green algae, mosses and the grasses all in one go?
    Thanks.

    Hi Robbie, just a theoretical question. Just imagine time & money wasn’t a constraint. For the concrete slabs could you use the Hypo for immediate effect and after a week or so retreat with the MMC. Best of both worlds? Or just jet wash it?

    • @Premier_lawns_official
      @Premier_lawns_official  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Jet washing is great, but removes the cement, Hypo works fast but leaves a salt deposit and the green comes back much faster. MMC works slower but the effects last much longer and the slabs will be brighter over time
      Your choice

    Iron sulphate, all acids eg vinegar, and copper sulphate all work well.
    Copper sulphate is particularly good as the copper it is toxic to moss and algae at very low concentrations, which means it tends to work for a long time even on a pitched roof in a wet climate. I use it on my roof and will continue to work for 6-12 months.
    Best solution is a strip of copper every few meters, will never have moss again.

    • @littlemunchkinscompany2775
      @littlemunchkinscompany2775 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you spray copper sulfate on your deck and driveway as a preventative like every fall spray and it works all winter?

    • @yp77738yp77739
      @yp77738yp77739 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@littlemunchkinscompany2775 Yes it is not just immediate contact, it absorbs into the substrate and then leeches out over time. How long it lasts depends upon rainfall amount, but for example on my roof tiles it gives 9-12 months moss re growth protection and we live in the perfect moss growing climate. I’m not absolutely sure whether it is the copper or whether it is the sulphate group which is active, because iron sulphate also works, being the turf moss killer used by groundsmen. It is my understanding that many wood preservatives (and anti-foul boat hull paints) are copper based. So maybe both are anti-moss.
      I did once try it on freshwater pontoon boards to try control algae, but it leeched away too quickly and did nothing after a month.
      I do try to use it very sparingly, I don’t like the idea of it getting into the water cycle, although farmers use sulphates by the tonne.

      It didn’t work!
      To kill algae, it needs to be a bit warmer, kind of like the same temps that weed killer works at.
      Had to retreat the entire thing again doh!
      Though to kill moss, I have found it still works at lower temps, it just takes a bit more product.

    Hello Robbie. Great video thanks. Just one question. Will the biocide kill my lawn if it drifts? I never had moss on my driveway until this year. I always washed my cars around the back on Tobermore bricks but I don’t have room now and since I started washing them on the tarmac it has gone green! There must be something in the products I’m using.

    • @Premier_lawns_official
      @Premier_lawns_official  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! I say this with caution or at least with applying a good dose of common sense, it won't damage your plants if you are careful and applying it in the right weather conditions. Or at least I have never had a problem and I use a lot of it. That's not to say if you are spraying a lot of stuff on them it will/won't burn them, it probably will...

    Hi Robbie, is it important to prevent MMC pro from drifitng onto plants or is it safe on drives near hedges etc ?

    • @Premier_lawns_official
      @Premier_lawns_official  ปีที่แล้ว

      A few people have asked this and I didn't cover it in the video... I have never had an issue, but I'm careful. It shouldn't (if you apply a bit of common sense)
      I'm sure if you splashed it on, it wouldn't do it much good, but I have never tested that theory!

    I have a balcony with a slanted roof below the railings and each side, behind the railings there's a small top end that comes to the railings that has lead right across the top of it,straight below that going to the gutter there is no moss,but on each side of my balcony where there is no lead there is, so I think that the moss doesn't like lead or what comes from the lead that runs down the roof, the moss just won't grow there,i just wonder if you soak lead in water then use the water water for garden's, how the grass would react to the lead water, something I must look into or does anyone else have an idea what would happen,,don't get me wrong i like moss very useful, I often pick it by hand for baskets, it's plentiful for that purpose, so not all bad instead of trying to kill it years ago we sold it to garden centres

    What time of year is best to use the MMC pro on the tarmac Robbie?

    • @Premier_lawns_official
      @Premier_lawns_official  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can be used anytime, but best NOT to do it on a cold day. It also depends on what the target is, if it's lichen / black spots on paving etc then warmer the better for moss that's not going to be an issue as such.

  • @Thursdaym2

      What a lot of folks do is clean the blocks with a power washer every few years, then apply MMC pro once a year to keep it clean

      Assuming you are using a knapsack sprayer
      1L per 4L of water (Strong) or 1L per 9L of water (weak)
