There was a big management change happened in MAPPA this year. Hiroya Hasegawa (Vinland Saga Animation Producer) became the Vice President, Shuhei Yabuta (Vinland Saga Series Director) became one of the board members. Keisuke Seshimo (CSM & JJK, their best animation producer) became executive officer. Yabuta can be a big positive change. Kimura also left, he was the producer responsible for taking too many high-profile projects (along with the CEO Manabu Otsuka). This is also a good thing. The CEO Otsuka is not bad entirely, his approach toward having the Studio doing solo productions or being higher in the production committee is genuinely good, it gives studio more control over the projects. Their biggest problem right now is that CSM and JJK are both handled by their best Animation Producer Keisuke Seshimo (basically both projects are done by almost the same team). This has become a huge mess, and both projects are suffering. Their other production lines are doing relatively fine, ranma 1/2 seems to have good production for example. They aren't separating CSM and JJK production line because they don't have any other aniP as good as Seshimo. The new management will have to fix this mess, and it will take some time for sure. We will start to see the decisions made by the new management in few years. I have high hopes tbh (specially from Yabuta & Hasegawa).
That's probably why I didn't watch too many MAPPA shows, I never liked the assembly line mentality/vibe, I did love MADHOUSE for sure, it's just crazy how things in a company can get so out of control, I feel for the animators, so I don't blame them if they decide to quit and/or start their own independent studios.
Around this Corner of the World 🌎🌍 movie released by Mappa in 2016 had really serious competition at that time especially with other big anime films such as Makoto Shinkai's Your Name (or "Kimi no Na wa") and Kyoto Animation's A Silent Voice (or "Koe no Katachi").
Good video and make sure to keep an eye out for Chainsaw Man's upcoming movie. It's shaping up to be the first relatively healthy Seshimo production, with well over a year of production for its runtime and a crazy good staff list. Hopefully, they're able to fix MAPPA's main issue right now, being JJK and CSM both being handled under Keisuke Seshimo, by handing one of the two off to another Animation Producer. Time will only tell, but it genuinely looks like they're heading in a positive direction, without having to make many sacrifices.
Great to hear, online I see people complaining about how long it's taking them to release the movie but I'm just here hoping that they can work on it without constant crunch and pressure. I guess most people want everything as soon as possible, but knowing about how shitty the work environment in anime usually is I'd be happy waiting longer if it meant people didn't have to suffer as much.
I'm glad to hear they were enjoyable! Yes! I really want to talk about the cour 2 stuff, but I'm so behind schedule that I don't think it'll come out until the new year :( I have a vid that will hopefully be ready for release in 18 hours. Then I have one more I need to get out before I start the Nier one. Really appreciate the patience 🙏
Another banger collab Corvu ❤️
@@animangasis congratulations 👏

Thanks for bringing these up! Very interesting insights, they have me feeling a little optimistic as well.

4:12 15 000 yen is a lot, I bet they pay that much to more experienced artists. I think 2-3k is more common pay.

Unrelated but do you still plan on making videos about cour 2 of the Automata anime now that it's done? I enjoyed your videos on cour 1 a lot
