I wonder whose idea it was to string everyone along in a useless pairing war instead of just making a choice and going with it. Not this constantly "will they won't they" and botch so hard you had to have others make a movie to redo the development only for it to backfire because it undermines the very things that makes Naruto, Naruto. "He doesn't know what love is." Give me a break. MHA didn't have this problem. We all knew. Either you accepted it or you didn't. Twas not a matter of if...only when. "Every fake interview I have found." Which ones? Don't make a claim like that, and then don't elaborate. Some interviews may be fake, but when you have the manga itself have Minato ask Naruto if Sakura was his girlfriend and he says "yeah." You kind of spat in the face of your readers. And this is just the pairings. Red herring, my foot. That makes it even worse if you're telling me you deliberatly fueled the pairings wars for a weak payout where the light novels and movies needs to put in the development you couldn't. I am not even going into the horrible chakra system which can't decide if it works by harry potter logic, alchemist logic, or Dragonball logic. Im sorry, but all this video proved to me was that Kishimoto is not a story teller.

Isayama is a gem. He's the kind of author I aspire to be. F with marketable stories, he's a free man with free will, writing whatever he wants. For someone like us who self-criticizes so hard, our mind is our own limitations. We're being a slave to our inferiority complex. I'm a writer & artist, I understand that feeling sm. Being able to overcome that is so fitting with the AoT main theme: Freedom. Istg when Eren screamed at Grisha to finish the story he has started, I feel like it's Isayama telling himself that. It even affects me personally for always trying to run away from my novel drafts. It's scary sometimes for how relatable AoT is for a lot of ppl 😂 Isayama is a genius!

  • @Brandon-a-writer

Hi, I had been a reasonably successful novelist and academic for the early part of the two thousands and with obscure books, academic publishing and generally making enough to help me live was able to get me through really dark times despite having an enormous amount of work by the beginning of my 30s, dozens of novels, hundreds of short stories, and significant financial freedom, but I was never satisfied with anything, and put more work aside out of just not trying to sell it than anything, and though I was financially successful I forced so my self criticism on myself that writing became a way to interact with demons, and it was less of a joy and more of a compulsion. In growing up, you either continue to depend on massive validation from others, from those who love you, or you produce something as an artist that is able to gain wide acclaim. In 2021 I joined a large news channel on TH-cam, and in the process, some time after, a TH-camr made a video about what made our news channel so great while I was the main writer and researcher. In a sense, I was able to write more freely after that. It kinda put a bandaid on my soul. I know exactly, exactly how this guy must feel in the kind of reactions he's seen, the fan feedback being kind to him reminds me of that moment I saw hundreds of people publicly talking kind about me (and this can still be seen in the video comments!). When you put this much effort into a work of art at some point you have an obligation to the story, it demands of you what it shows to be necessary. I think AoT is a rich character story, and it has a lot in common with the best in anime .... I hope his anxiety has chilled out, at the very least, writing can burn you out so much ... Seeing my son grow up also helped my early intellectual angst ... turn into a [hopefully] more appreciative and less dismissive attitude towards everyone around me, and ultimately, more forgiving of myself, though still incapable of seeing past flaws that ... continue to moving me forward, compulsively obsessing about the current projects and how they will be received, when they will be published, if, and the cycle of it all continues. This was a great vid, hope the channel sees much success!

Great video, finally some decent yt recommendations. It's interesting to hear the challenges Urasawa faced especially with Monster whose premise is instantly gripping. I never realized the Fugitive connection but it makes perfect sense in retrospect. One of the most "eccentric" things about Urasawa is that he maintains a public persona in contrast to the "cult of anonymity" that's remained so pervasive among mangaka to this day. I really commend him for his work and his openness towards speaking about the industry.

    • @CorvuSphere

I love that Naoki played by the rules until he saw others break them ; he was such a rebel and pioneer and it was fascinating to see what inspired him for Monster (which i watch semi-annually). I loved that he always stuck by his work and stayed dedicated to his own story. He never sold his soul for mainstream fame. Also love thr clips from Manben talking about his approach to characters and facial expressions is so fascinating. It's inspiring. His characters are so realistic that you feel like they all exist in some world. Anyways, Great video, editing, and format. It was super engaging and can't wait for more.

I appreciate this, thanks! TH-cam's always slow to test out/push my vids to new audiences, so hopefully it starts to pick up over the next few days.

It was either 2008 or 9, when I was about 16. I was a big weeb and I tried to read every manga I got my hands on. But I was always a bit of an action oriented goblin, drawn to the shonen way of life. Words cannot describe the impact 20th Century Boys had on me when I found it. I always go out of my way to recommend it to people. It was complete when I found it, and I gobbled it all up in less than a month, and when the movies came out, I watched them too. I'd be lying if I said I remember everything about it, but the premise hit me like a ton of bricks, the back and forth between (at times) 3 or 4 time frames was always masterfully done, a lot of the scenes in the past talked about kids in a way that still felt relatable to me, even though I couldn't have lived a far away enough life from a japanese kid in the 60s. And don't even get me started on some of the panels. Man knows how to draw money shots. I can't believe I haven't checked out his other works yet, but this video really opened up my eyes that I absolutely should

That's awesome! Firsthand testimony that he really is as good at drawing kids as they say (referring to 19:10). Great to hear the vid is helping to make his other works look appealing too!
