A year after this video, I have upgraded to the manticore and after watching many hours of 'instructional' videos, this is the only one that really matters. Pity you didn't carry on this series. The effort though must have been signifcant and thus is well appreciated. Minelab should pay you to do all their stuff.
As always very thorough! Through the years I have learned to rely on and respect your very appreciated tutorials. You are quite adept. I will revisit this. Thanks.
I want to thank you for encouraging me to keep trying with manticore. I was disappointed with it for quite some time, but now after really learning it good it is an awesome machine and I really love it. I have to admit that it was not the machine that was lacking but my own knowledge. Thank you for helping me and encouraging me to keep going.
It takes some time but my biggest advice to new people with the Manticore is not to boost sensitivity when you are trying to learn. In heavy trash I usually run between 18-20. Areas that are a bit quieter I boost it higher. Even at 22 I was hitting deep coins. Trust it’s powerful even at its default sensitivity.. it can false on iron a lot more when boosted.. but there is the stabilizer setting that can help quiet falsing down.
@@RelicDirtyhands I wanted to post an update to my Manticore experience. I just got the M8 coil and I am now becoming impressed. I am getting better at using the Manticore and learning what works for me and finally getting some better results. I was going to sell the Manticore and keep the Legend but now I am not so sure. One of the features that I still like more about Legend is that it pairs to $10 ear buds and I do not need those huge head phones but I do see a better performance with Manticore. I am pretty sure the Manticore will become my go to detector.
@@bennoah9780 I’m so happy to hear, it has a learning curve but well worth learning it! I can’t go back to my older units, not after seeing it’s full capabilities ☺️. It just keeps getting better 👍
Thanks Laurie, the more tutorials I watch from you, the better I can see how this machine is a contender for being the best out there. Really amazing features!

Awesome series, these have answered so many questions. I have seen those pesky aluminum pull tabs, that look so inviting in Multi-IQ mode. don't fare so well in the single-frequency modes. It stays on the center line but smears out due to the jumpy VDI numbers (unless it's on or close to the surface). The iron signals also may delay the beep as you swing over the center in both directions (like it signals a beep as you cross the far side halo area)
@@RelicDirtyhands I, unfortunately, do not own this machine yet, but I was watching a video that "Brass Medic" posted last Christmas called, "Minelab Manticore - Avoid Those Nails!". He demonstrated this phenomenon several times (4:10, 9:10). He compared it to something he learned from the CTX. Perhaps it was emphasized due to his settings. I'm curious if you can experience the same results.
@@danblankenship5744 the biggest problem I see is he wasn’t taking advantage of the ferrous indicator as he was using discrimination. In All metal he would have seen the red line ferrous indicator telling him that’s 100 percent ferrous. The shape on the ID screen, was telling me trash. I’ve seen many videos of people not using the machine correctly and calling it a bug. I’m curious how deep that first target was, items close to the surface give you that delay or double tap. It was hard as I couldn’t see his screen half the time. This is common with the Equinox and most detectors I’ve used when it comes to surface items. His swing rate was really slow, but I wish I saw the depth. I feel some TH-camrs are too much in a rush to create content before they know how to use a new machine. This creates miss information and frustration to many others. It sucks because when you use it right it’s incredible and so accurate. I didn’t watch it all, just the first bit ☺️
@@RelicDirtyhands Thanks for clearing that up. I hope you responded to his video to teach and promote your tutorial. I have been spreading the news and hopefully, you gain new subs.

The legend doesn’t even come close to what this beast can do! I’ve been detecting a long time and have friends that use one. You can’t compare a cat to a lion ☺️👍
@@RelicDirtyhands ummm i think that is very debatable. According to many who have and use both the legend and manticore there is only a slight advantage in depth and separation with manticore. Most seem to think the small advantage is not worth 3 times the price of the legend for the small difference. I dont have so i am only repeating what others say.
@@bennoah9780 please you haven’t mentioned performance, accuracy and the 2d Id screen. It drives me crazy to hear others spread rumours like this. There is a big difference between them. You don’t own one, nor have you tried it and you are making these claims. You get what you pay for.
@@RelicDirtyhands as i said. I am just repeating what those who use both have reported their opinions. Not knocking manticore. But those who do have and use both say there is not the huge difference in overall performance. Is manticore better? Maybe. Way better? No, and as most claim certainly not $1000 better. As for my own experience, i have been detecting for over45 yrs. I own several detectors that range from $500 to $1300. I also own the legend. I am so impressed with its performance that i am selling all my other higher priced detectors and i do not feel i need a manticore. By the way. Great video👍
@@RelicDirtyhands Reality is, I do not own a manticore so I have no right to say if it is good or bad. Likewise, if you do not have a Legend then you also have no right to say that the manticore is far superior as you can not possibly know that. Just because the Legend is 1/3 the price does not mean it cannot perform close to the manticore. Maybe it does, maybe it does not. The manticore is said to have small advantages over Legend. But the Legend also has two advantages over manticore. One huge advantage is $1000 less expensive, and 2 is I do not have to spend hours watching videos on how to tell what the screen is telling me which by the way is only marginally accurate on shallow targets. Im not saying manticore is not good, for sure it is, but so is Legend
I just returned from another go with my Manticore with the Sens around 21. I detected the abandoned early 1800s church yard for about 1 1/2 - 2 hours in AT general, and then for a while in AT high conductors. I only got one diggable signal that rang about 13 round dot on center line, I was a little excited until I pulled up foil :(( . I would like to go back there with my Legend as I am pretty sure I will not come home empty handed. I am starting to loose hope with my Manticore. I am wondering if it is even working correctly since all it has been good at is finding shallow targets at 6 inches or less. I have found deeper targets with my Legend with the 6 inch coil. I wonder if anyone else is experiencing this same thing with their Manticore ?
Have you air or ground tested targets outdoors? Try a small silver, place it on the ground and keep raising the coil. It should hit it at a good depth. I haven’t heard of anyone else having this problem. You could call Minelab customer service and talk with someone there.
Yes I have tested it with various objects, thin silver ring I found with my Legend, small gold ear rings and larger gold rings and various coins and also pull tabs and old nails just to see how it responded and I recorded the number for later reference. Seems like it gets good depth in an air test , but I am not finding even junk at more than 6 inches, in fact about 70-80 % of my finds with my Manticore I can get with my pinpointer before digging. It just worries me that I am not getting any deeper targets. I have been running with ground tracking on, Do you recommend running in that mode ?
@@RelicDirtyhands Yes , I have tested it with a thin silver ring I found with my Legend and small gold ear rings and larger rings, various coins and pull tabs and old nails to see the response and recorded the results for future reference. I have not changed anything but the most basic of setting from the factory. It just worries me that I am not even getting junk and any respectful depth in dirt. I am running in Ground Tracking on. Do you think that could be causing an issue? And I wanted to thank you for taking the time to respond.
@@bennoah9780 Oh good, so it seems to be working properly. I would need to have more information on site conditions to correctly answer your question on Ground Tracking. The Minelab Manticore is really stable in mineralized ground and rarely needs to be used. Places I would recommend using Ground Tracking is in extreme conditions. Example saltwater beaches, gold prospecting areas and some freshwater beaches with high levels of black sand. You use it In areas where you need to ground balance often. If your conditions are not like this, then turn it off. It’s best not to use the tracking on unless you need to keep ground balancing every few feet. I ground balance when I notice a bit of ground noise, the detector feels edgy. I find a spot with no targets, ground balance and it quiets it down. Usually at most of my sites it’s a low number, but it makes a difference. After sometime using it, you start to know when you need to increase or decrease sensitivity, when to increase or decrease recovery and when to ground balance. The default settings have a great balance to start with but it’s sophisticated and needs to be tweaked for site conditions.
@@RelicDirtyhands Thank You for taking the time to help me. I will try playing around with some of the settings and I will try my next hunt with a simple GB and tracking off. I have tried to avoid changing many setting since without a deeper knowledge of them I would likely just make things worse. The ground I hunt in I would say is just average minerals, not real high or low, The numbers usually like to settle in the 30s. I am okay with not finding great targets, but I can not figure out why I do not find anything at all at even 8 or 10 inches and there are plenty of things in our ground. I have found several rings and ear rings , many old and new coins and also junk with my Legend, but Manticore so far has shown me only a few newer coins and plenty of junk. I really like the machine and I will keep trying but if this thing does not start performing better than my pin pointer pretty soon I think I will just get rid of it. Thanks for all your help and you make very nice videos.
