  • ”The building” - According to an invoice dated May 12th 1834, concerning work days, travelling and iron plates for the roof, this was the occasion when the belfry, on the other side of the road from the Älvkarleby church, was extended and got walls. The master nyckelharpa player Carl Ersson Boussard, "Byss-Calle” 1783-1847, happened to pass the belfry. They argued about who had the most difficult work, the construction workers or the party player. It ended with a bet: the workers would finish the work on the belfry and Byss-Calle would make two tunes. The winner would get a little barrel of liquor and 25 kronor, a big sum at the time. Of course Byss-Calle won with his new tunes Byggnan and Klockstapelsvalsen (the belfry waltz). August 2020 we held the 37th Byss-Calle stämma (fiddlers gathering) at the Älvkarleby homestead farm.
