A rewinding tape sounds like high pitched squealing, like a bunch of tiny fleas singing and talking. This sounds more like a tape jamming up in the mechanism. It was probally rewinding, but the deck was really struggling with the tape.

Mine had a high pitched moaning sound is heared twice while the "R" rating is on, then 10 seconds silence followed by extremely loud dog weasel that we humans can hear.
Mine had the black and white color bars and when they went colour, the pitch changed from a normal beep to a high pitched noise that really destroyed my ears!
I like both of them. Also the first one is so funny! Also the B/W Bar Screen of Death at the end of Family Jewels is even rarer than the Shuffling Color Bars at the end of most PolyGram Video tapes.

The second set of patterns look like they'd be very useful in conjunction with an oscilloscope connected to the video output to gauge recording quality/levels.

Then kid hears OEUWOOOWOOOWOOOUUWOOOWOOOUUUUUWOOO, and kid thinks Happy Funny Bunny is being murdered with a steamroller and then streched around inside a giant taffy machine courtesy of the villian Dr Sourpuss. Kid keeps parents awake all night with terrified screans and cries, and mommy and daddy have to pay huge therapy bills for their kid, thanks to Happy Funny Bunny.
Since you are remaking your old videos, you should probably remake this in particular! By the way, the 1st ending on Betty Boop VHS by 3G Productions was extremely weird unlike any other VHS tape I have owned!

I have two VHS tapes I bought from White Elephant (a local thrift store in my area) a few years ago that have very weird endings like these. The tapes I got are: 1. The 1985 VHS of The Wizard of Oz, where about an half an hour or so after the copyright screen and logo, it has a bunch of gibberish text appearing on the screen for a few seconds! 2. The Magnetic Video VHS of Anastasia (1956) from 1978/9, where a split second of a scene (which I believe is in the film) appeared like several minutes after the movie itself was over, and what's even stranger is that about an hour later, it has a tape recording of the ending to Chuck Jones' Mowgli's Brothers, which was recorded off of TV! (And it started when Mowgli gets a pot of fire from the village and goes off to face Shere Khan.)
