I had the older model impala it did the same thing. I replaced three ignition coil and it fixed the problem. If your car is under warranty take it back if not, look into that first id say.
I remember in the older Impalas (05-13) if the key got stuck, you would have to take it to a mechanic and have them make a hole under the steering wheel n press a bypass switch. Idk about the newer fancier ones though.

My 2012 is same thing. Buy new battery and see it is fully charged. Install and start car. Charging the existing battery will only put a small charge on it , voltage will read high, but as soon as you go to start, it dies and key remains locked. Put in new battery and run car until fully charged. The electronics are meant to save the battery, but the result is you are surprised. Add a volt meter so you can watch . Idiot lights do not even work. The system is CRAP. It will also shut down unnecessary draws like radio if voltage gets low. I fought with mine for a week to get it to run and I kept a trickle charger on it when not in use.
It looks like the car didnt have enough fuel to start it up but how one person will push the car to the gas station. That would take 30-60 people to push the car's heavy weight to the gas station
Did you ever turn your steering wheel back and fourth while you turned the key? This happened to me in my Impala 9th gen and my moms Hyundai Sonata twice, unless your battery really went out.
I'd be interested to know if you give the battery wires a good pull if it changes anything. Seems like one or both of them could be loose. If not, its some other electric distribution problem, like maybe the fuse box wiring. Take it into chevy and see what they say, surely its still under warranty?
I’ve randomly had the same issue with my 2014 Impala. When it first started I replaced the battery. That was about a year ago and it’s happened twice since, yesterday being the most recent. Dealer doesn’t help because it doesn’t happen when there. Seems to me to be a theft deterrent/key fob issue? I’ve been able to get it started every time by disconnecting the negative battery cable for a couple minutes to reset computer.
My neighbor has a 2017 model and he constantly has problems with it, He has problems with the security system not starting the car and a lot of dead batteries with it Chevy's making poor quality stuff, I went with Toyota this time thank God, I have owned American cars for years and never again they always have problems, I played it smart this time investing my money smartly
Ryan Jones ok got you i had an issue with mines because changed to a led license plate bulb and come to find out it was slowly killing my battery dealership finally figured it out it was crazy and my body control module needed replacing so i traded that in and got a 16 Impala!

I can fix it if you have already x off the starter ignition switch key cylinder neutral safety switch oil good cables batteries fuses and relays check for oil leak and burnt wires u may have to take the entire wiring harness out to check if all that's ok check computer

Ron I actually its not the battery... this happened to me on my 2014 impala WITH a new battery... its the theft lock... simple fix: open hood... disconnect negative wire from battery for about 10 to 30 minutes... re attach wire... car starts right back up.. saves you thousands on towing and taking it to the dealer. 😁

My 13’ impala just did that...U gotta jumpstart it to get it out again bc the key mechanism locks in so when it dead there is no taking that key out.

Its not always the battery. Check the cables. Obviously its no contact.
