Hiking through the woods in the mountains of Montana is a beautiful and intense experience. Chances are you'll be fine and won't run into an aggressive animal, but knowing there's that chance does something extraordinary to your senses
Especially when the 'appropriate' reaction to a Grizzly vs. a BBear is POLAR opposite. Forgive the unintentional pun, but... yeah. Imagine a common hiker surprised by a Black, and then he whispers: "Don't run, Phil! Make yourself look big, wave your arms and growl!!" 😳😳😳😳😳😳
I grew up in Montana and bears used to run through our yard in Bozeman. Occasionally, they are spotted in town usually on walking and biking trails such as the Galligator Trail. These are usually not grizzlies but I wouldn’t want to startle or anger any adult bear. If you want to learn about bears and you’re in the Bozeman area, visit Montana Grizzly Encounter. They care for a few grizzlies that can’t be released into the wild. You can do a lot to prevent a bear attack and they explain that in their talk.
There was no attack....Did you even listen to the whole fucking video lmao. It was an encounter. I encountered a pitbull yesterday, should I call it a pitbull attack?
Except I'd presume that a supposedly well known hunter would know that grizzly bears are not carnivores, they eat fleshy roots, fruits, berries, grasses and a lot of other things that aren't meat, shouldn't someone like this know that? Did he mean that they tend to eat more meat than black bears and just explained it poorly? I have no respect for anything this guy says about animals or hunting now, that's a pretty weird thing to be wrong about

As a female hunter who was lucky enough to be born into a family of very avid outdoorsman, I can honestly say that crossing paths with a grizzly is my worst fear. I don’t have anywhere near the experience as my father or grandfather, and I don’t get to hunt as much as I want to, but I do have more experience than most people I know and I feel so incredibly lucky for that. I have been hunting with my dad and brother and grandpa many many times and the one thing we ALWAYS have on us other than our rifle and sidearm, is bear-spray. And my grandpa will always chastise us if our spray is anywhere other than on our hip in a very accessible place. Never let your guard down in bear country 🐻
One thing I rarely hear people mention in bear encounter stories is how unbelievably bad bears in the wild smell. One guy said he shit his pants and it was nothing compared to how bad the bear smelled. He said it’s stink was overwhelming. Plus, shit your pants shit smells WAY worse, because it’s not ready to leave your body yet.
13 minutes of suspense and expectation... but the dude only saw a bear and his ego telling the story is bigger than the bear itself. I want my 12 minutes back, please!
First time Joe asks: oh probably 5 or 6 maybe 700 lbs. Second time: at least 7 or 800 lbs. Later on that night: it was 1600 lbs if it was an ounce and it breathed fire and had claws of pure steel..
I went hunting for Bear with my Father and his guide. He used the same guide for many years and he was a family friend too. I’ll never forget the first time I saw a Grizzly Bear in the wild. You’re never armed well enough lol. I’ve only hunted Black Bear in Pennsylvania and out in the northwest states but I’ve seen Grizzlies. Truly a sight that makes you realize where we fit in the food chain. Those were the best trips I’ve ever been on with my Father.
It's cuz we let those f*ckers live despite being too many out there. If we were to hunt them down to exterminate them they won't be that tough. A whole squad of heavily armed people should be good enough. What happens in the woods is 99% of the time a bear would encounter an unarmed human whereas a human always meets a bear that is ready to rip you apart. And the worse part is these suckers keep growing in numbers across all continents to the point you can't fucking go to the woods anymore.
I encountered a huge grizzly with my Grandfather in the northern part of Wyoming we were about 300-400 feet away on a cliff in full camouflage watching this beast of a bear looking and sniffing around in a creek. And all of a sudden he looks in our direction up on the cliff and I mean body pointing directly at us which to me and my grandpa felt like he was staring right at us but we knew it was most likely checking it’s surroundings, examining the cliff whatever. All of a sudden the bear turns it’s head behind him, looks back at us and started SPRINTING towards our direction… we hopped in the Jeep so fast and booked it! We talk about it all the time and have a running joke like “I should’ve left you there” kind of thing 😂 I’ll never forget it

I worked for a guide service as a wrangler for elk hunts, just outside Yellowstone, in the Grand Tetons. One time I was quartering up an elk and Tandy, one of our pack mules, started dancing around all crazy and I went to walk over to see what the impatient bitches problem was.. then I looked in the direction she was looking in and just on top of the hill was a huge Griz sow and three near full grown cubs.. we all looked at each other for a second that felt like forever and then me and the guy I was with started yelling “hey bear fuck off, get your own!” And nothing happened. So we had to act, slowly walking towards them waving our arms and yelling. It takes a great deal to walk towards an animal that every part of you wants to run from. They decided to turn tail and run over the hill, needless to say we both had pistols drawn.. always pay attention to your pack animals and mounts.. Tandy smelled those bears before my dog did. @PowerfulJRE
He wasn't always rich. Having a background in martial arts aids in being in contact with your primal self, plus he's been hunting for decades now, he is more aware of what an encounter like this would bring out of a person than most of us. I've had a few encounters with black bears. You can scare them easily stretching out your arms and being loud. 2 encounters while living in Yosemite. one in the kitchen while taking out the trash (someone had left a door open!) and once when i was walking home (lived and worked there). Thankfully i never ever ever encountered a grizzley bear while living and working in Yellowstone , but i did have a literal run - in with a bison. I laugh my butt off about that one , but boy i tell you what , that was a scary moment.

Me and my brother were hiking Mount Yamnuska in Canmore, Alberta and on our way back down from the mountain, we got off the main trail and ended up coming down on a deer trail. I had a funny feeling in my gut so I had some lound music playing on my phone for noise as I didn't have anything else. As we came out of this one brush of trees into an open meadow, I look at this face with pitch black eyes just staring at me and to be honest, I just froze for a good couple of seconds as I couldn't believe that it was a grizzly about 80 ft. away from us. As I snapped back into my senses, i just lowered my gaze and we slowly backed off and as we were backing away, we noticed it was a mama bear with a cub so things could have turned real bad for us if anything went wrong. Definitely one of the scariest and unforgettable experiences of my life
As a 30 year resident of Banff AB, I can confidently say that you were VERY fortunate. I fly fish the Bow River between Banff and Canmore frequently and I’m on constant high alert! Not just listening, but watching for any hint of a bear at my feet. It’s trippy AF out in the bush in dead silence and you hear things or just imagine you hear things…
I live in Alberta. Encountered a few grizzlies. I know they are dangerous and all but this story of a bear 80 yards away, walking away from you??? Come on dude. I had a grizz come up 40 yards from me on the river bank look over at me and walk off in the opposite direction couldn’t care less. This guy is making them sound like the Baba Yaga haha
Well, they can't cover 80 yds in 2 seconds either, more like 5 seconds if you believe math, that is. Also, Black bears are more docile, but attack far more ppl per capita bc they are more in contact with people. As usual, lots of inaccurate info.

Growing up in Sitka, Alaska (Baranof Island), my family, friend's and I have had numerous encounters with Coastal Brown Bears, a.k.a. Coastal Grizzlies. More often than not, the bear leaves or ignores you. However, an angry or aggressive Grizzly is exceptionally dangerous, even if armed w/ bear spray and a large caliber firearm. I personally know people who have been attacked, mauled, have had their pets eaten, etc. Even with a massive, growing population of these bears on the ABC islands (Admiralty, Baranof and Chichagof Islands) so many local do-gooder's whine & bitch about these bears getting shot and killed from time to time, but if and/or when (God Forbid) one takes a child, I expect their tune will change! I stand with Rogan, on Team People.
Oh mann, thats crazy you say that, I live in south central and my cousins live in Sitka, the only time I've seen a Grizzly is when I went to visit them. I've never been big on carrying while hiking cause I usually only see black bear and they scare off easy enough, but ever since seeing a grizzly from 200 yards away, I never go into any Alaskan Bush without my Remmi 870 w/000, always ready for the worst case scenario of a Grizzly charging.
Totally agree. These crazies hate human beings even though humans often are incredibly selfless and do many things to help or save animals. Heaven forbid an animal is killed to save a human life. They are counter evolutionary morons.
@@rossdawgsbrokenspirit9038 I'm trying to respond to as many of these human hater posts as I can because this new attitude is a scourge and counter-evolutionary. I understand conservation and treating animals well, but this wacko attitude of kill all humans and leave the Earth to animals is disgusting.
Once while hiking down from Halfdome with my uncle, we ran into a mother black bear and her cubs coming towards us on a path. We were out of water so we were feelin the fatigue. Then we had to walk backwards probably about a half to 3/4s of a mile to get back to a fork in the trail that led to a rest stop. It was a weird section of trail where the ground became almost like sand. I was 13 at the time and it was one of the most insane experiences I can remember. It really was by the whim of that mother bear whether or not we went. Cause they got within 100 yards of us.
I grew up hiking in the Appalachian mountains, from the time I could barely walk…used to love it so much that I started going alone when I got older … That is until I encountered a black bear (on the large side for a black) miles from anyone .. Only time in my life I’ve felt that vulnerable, like I could die if something decides on a whim to do the deed. Decided to never go alone again or without protection…and probably wouldn’t be caught dead in Grizzly country…that phobia is just too intense for me now.
The story is actually not very interesting. A grizzly bear appeared about 80 yards in front of him when he expected to see an elk. It didn't interact with him in any way.
All of the expert analysis I've seen is that Black Bears attack because they want to eat you so they say if a Black Bear attacks, fight back because it is a predatory attack. They say most Grizzly attacks are defensive or because you startle them. They say to play dead if a Grizzly attacks you because they generally just want to neutralize what they perceive as a threat. Here, you guys describe it exactly the opposite. Perhaps try to clarify in the comments here for your viewers. Thank you
thats probably true, but the point is that a black bear is usually not hungry enough to want to eat a human. so you can scare it off with intimidation, because most likely its not a predatory attack. a grizzly on the other hand is a superior predator and has a higher chance to decide to eat and kill you. also its a lot bigger than a black bear so its less likely to be scared of you and aggression is a lot more than a black bear. which makes the grizzly no matter how you look at it the more dangerous of the two.
Yes Travis you are absolutely right! I was annoyed at this guy's ignorance about bears. Saying grizzlies are carnivores and black bears are omnivores. Both are omnivores and grizzly bears are far less likely to eat humans than black bears, but grizzlies are far more likely to attack (defensive reaction) than black bears also. Typically in late summer/Fall (mostly male) predatory black bear attacks can happen. They are usually trying to bulk up before hibernation. Be very wary of any black bear that stalks you or shows interest. They typically are not as aggressive as brown bears or polar bears, but they are no less dangerous or no less capable of killing people for food. I will add sometimes grizzly attacks are predatory in which case you're screwed as they usually will lay on top of you to use their weight to stop your moving as they eat you at their leisure. Pretty horrific to think about.
I have a long story about being charged by a 9.5’+ mountain griz near moose lake Alaska while hunting many years ago. Massive massive bear and in that valley they are all monsters. Shot him 3 times and he kept charging. Too long story to post here I’ll say this for anyone who has not experienced this. A black bear before bedding down that’s hungry will eat you alive. A Griz will kill you and in some cases wait days to make sure you are dead.

Clearly you havent listen to Joe in the last year...That's all it is, politics and how he's pretending to still be a left winger when he's very much a right winger.
I've heard the exact opposite--at least while in Alaska. I was told black bear are much more predatory. When a grizzly attacks a human, it's almost always because they feel threatened and/or surprised. When a black bear attacks a human, it's usually because they are looking for a meal that's easier to catch than a rabbit.
Grizzly are definitely more dangerous but I’ve heard black bears in certain areas ( I think BC) can be quite dangerous too. Some black bears are definitely predators.
@BeatniKkers Duh! Just like all carnivorous wild animals are predatory. But there's spectrum of predation in regards to humans. There's a difference between black bears and grizzly bears.

Forgive the unintentional pun, but... yeah. Imagine a common hiker surprised by a Black, and then he whispers:
"Don't run, Phil! Make yourself look big, wave your arms and growl!!"
😳😳😳😳😳😳
There is no way i would ever set my foot in the forest if we had bears in the part of my country where i live lol.
I grew up in Montana and bears used to run through our yard in Bozeman. Occasionally, they are
spotted in town usually on walking and biking trails such as the Galligator Trail.

Joe geeking from bear story and actually turning for a second to a grizzly bear was funny to me lol

@@marcogiardi3737 Yes especially Black Bears
It's cuz we let those f*ckers live despite being too many out there. If we were to hunt them down to exterminate them they won't be that tough. What happens in the woods is 99% of the time a bear would encounter an unarmed human whereas a human always meets a bear that is ready to rip you apart.

Joe is the only human being who would interrupt a guy with bear noises😂
3:50 Joe does cowardly lion from wizard of oz. lol

When Joe just randomly hit that angry bear sound, while the other guy was mid conversation, that shit was just random as fuck and hilarious 😂
Refreshing to hear anything other than Rittenhouse and politics.
Clearly you havent listen to Joe in the last year...That's all it is, politics and how he's pretending to still be a left winger when he's very much a right winger.
Rittenhouse killed the Grizzly in self defense
@@Plague_Doc22 quit saying winger
what about the JFK assassination and the link to the CIA, UFOs and aerospace he covered?
Well welcome to the youtube comment section! Plenty of random politic freaks here, dont you worry about that
I've heard the exact opposite--at least while in Alaska.
Joe at 3:50 straight killed me 😂😂 watched it 4-5 times over
Man wtf I watched the whole episode to see the “full story” and it turns out nothing even happened 😭
