Practical Psychology If its just me everytime. I need some information to be learned Practical Psychology is there. ❤(Love your Videos and Persistence on making this Videos)*Respect Gained* but this time, if its just me The narrative is a little too fast and try to be relaxed no pressure.... I just ended up reading the visualization (personal opinion). All in all the video is great, visualization, information, examples, and organization. *I do love a quote; That sums up the information.*
Practical Psychology you mentioned getting rid of triggers like going to lunch with friends, which was a good example, but also didn't tell what happens then. Should one avoid the triggers forever? That's quite sad
Ask anyone who is trying to lose weight: when the craving for sugar and unhealthy food hits you straight in the face, it’s hard to ignore. The trick here is to still respond to the craving, but with something other than eating something that is unhealthy. This is the golden rule of changing any habit: don’t resist the craving, redirect it. For instance if your craving is a sweet piece of cake, replace it with eating a delicious apple!
Hello there, Speaking from my experience with smoking and quitting it, the thing the helped me the most was to be curiously aware of the times I went to grab a smoke. As many habits, you can be on autopilot and not even realise the actions you are taking at the moment. It took me about a week of thinking to myself: "Man I'm smoking some really bad toxins right here" to actually stop smoking for good. I'm really excited about the habit science and I've been researching a lot about it for the mast few months, I love the new series about the habits. On another topic, I miss the background music, and speaking by what I've learned from 5 years of business school, some other people might look at the background music as one of your signature. I would recomend bringing it back. Keep up the good work brother, cheers from a Brazilian follower!!
I've managed to quit a few bad habits over the last 2-3 months. I quit drinking Carbonated drinks and Energy drinks. I quit drinking tea completely I used to drink it excessively about 7-12 pints of tea a day and if the caffeine wasn't enough to say that's a bad habit I used to put 3 sugars in it. I just drink water(sometimes with lemon in it) and smoothies now. I quit video games which I was insanely addicted too. I quit biting my nails. I don't drink alcohol, smoke or do drugs at all never have. I'm still addicted to sugary foods which I've cut down on but if I get like a pack of sweets I don't have the discipline to have just one I end up eating them all still. I have a bad habit of staying up late and constantly messing up my sleeping schedule and oversleeping which always makes me more tired like 11 hours a night if I have nothing to wake up for. Dunno if these would be considered habits but definitely things I want to change. Procrastinating. Laziness. Fear of change, even tho I really want it. Poor diet in general. Lack of focus, Motivation, and Discipline. Low energy.
I got something called Ramsey Hunt, it's basically like a facial stroke (I'm better now tho like 90% recovered) and it made me really question a lot of my choices and after that, I pretty much just went cold turkey on a lot of things. I'm not disciplined enough to play for just an hour so if I played at all it just consumed all my free time. Eventually, I got fed up canceled my subscription to my Xbox changed my steam password to something I can't remember so I can't just go on it instantly I would have needed to redeem password. I think when ever you get the urge for any addiction you're trying to quit. being present noticing that it's an urge and thinking about the benefits of not doing it and thinking about the long term benefits really helped me. So to sum it up 1)Emotional "life experience" (more like an Emotional Breakdown) 2)Consider the long term pros to Quitting every time you get an urge to play. 3)Take away instant access. 4) Counting the days since you've stopped I feel like this is enough to keep from relapsing once you get to like day 12 or 13 that urge to play hits not only do you consider the long term pros to Quitting you also think about having to start from day 0 again. I Quit on the 3rd of May and haven't played since. On top of that video games were my trigger for my caffeine addiction as well.
+Dylan Watson thinking about the benefits of not doing something is not good enough at least for me. To quit a bad habit is better if you change it. When you feel like you want to play a game, find the worst game possible and force yourself playing it. Or if you feel like eating chocolate, put some salt on it and eat it. It's hard at first, but it works.
bad habit number #1. stopping everything immediately, once there is a new video uploaded on a channel that I'm subscribed to. wish people would do that for my channel too.
love your channel. you helped me quit smoking back the end of feb. or beggining of march. it only lasted little over a month. but with more knowledge and more ideas next time hopefully it last longer. i haven't gave up yet.
The replacing thing really works wonders, and it doesn't necessarily need to be a "good" habit if you can't think of something right away, it can just be something harmless instead. I used to bite my nails... I realized I did that automatically whenever I was nervous and my hands were not doing anything, and that I was unable to just keep my hands still, so I switched to just touching my nails with the other fingers. It has the same calming effect, without destroying the nails and hurting my teeth.
You are awsm bro Just because U ACCEPT that u are lagging somewhere and u want to IMPROVE that .. so my best wishes ... hope to See you that old version of you who WAS so PASSIONATE..
Practical Psychology I've found something called guided access for all iOS devices that limits the time you can use your device. There's no need to download apps. Thx for the help.
I'd like to point out that what you are referring to as negative reinforcement is actually positive punishment, the goal of any reinforcement is to increase the likelihood of a specific behavior. Negative reinforcement is the removal of a stimuli in order to reinforce the targeted behavior. The goal of negative reinforcement when applied to a smoking habit is to increase the habit. The only logical real world example i can think of would be switching to all natural cigarettes in order to smoke more, the removal of an adverse stimuli (the bodily damage caused by additives) in order to reinforce a habit (smoking). Positive punishment is the introduction of a negative stimuli in order to decrease the habit. Its a common misconception that positive and negative refer to the stimuli in regards to these psychological theories, when in actuality positive and negative refer to either the introduction or removal of a stimuli, and reinforcement and punishment refer to either increasing or decreasing habitual behavior.
Bad habits I have - procrastinating on tasks that I want to do: lack of motivation, laziness. Solution: get inspiration, increase stamina through exercise, eat and drink well to be more active - speaking in a too soft voice, sometimes others can't hear me: shyness. Solution: practicing speaking in a mirror, forcing myself to socialize more. - Eating too junk food: boredom, like the taste. Solution: eat more healthy food that's also tasty, practice more self control - Drinking too much soda: to drown sorrow I guess, like to relax for a while. Solution: do it less often, two times per week at most
My bad habit is video games. I hardly ever play much honestly, but when I do I feel I've wasted time and could've been spending that time more effectively.....
dude i am from India and me and my friends really like to watch your video we will love to watch a video on wisdom or some thing dill with best life living tips. thankyou you are doing very good work love from India.
How I quit smoking (at least for a few couple of weeks now), get into a position where you cannot buy any tobacco/pack of cigs. When it happened it was after midnight and everything was closed. So I had to wait several hours to buy more tobacco, which I didn't. I went to sleep, then went to a friend where there wasn't a tobacco shop nearby either. Hey! Nice video. Nice that you are trying to make more videos. But you should study more about Behavior Analysis. It surely would help you understanding and framing you practical psychology tips. And there is actually one concept error in the video: what you are calling "negative reinforcement" is called "positive punishment" in Behavior Analysis. Good video! But I miss the background music like it was on your "older" videos. Anyway, I've got a question: Is procrastination a habit? I mean this is something that one does frequently. If so, I think that's my biggest bad habit. And do you have any videos on procrastination respectively have you planned to do some videos about that?
Miep procrastination is a bad habit, where the trigger is your unwillingness to perform a task. to combat this, you can set a reward for yourself or have someone reward you after the task has been completed.
I wouldn't recommend self negative reinforcement especially if you have low self respect because it can easily turn into self harm. Its much better to do positive reinforcement. But also make sure your "reward" doesn't go against your goals.
straight to the point- the concrete examples that you give are really useful, they offer a kind of better understanding of the actual method and its application also the mention of meditation could've been around in this video :D All togheter, all i see is a good video, keep ''practicing'' these are only getting better if you will to ^_^
I am constantly on my phone, even at work. This is one of my bad habits I need to get rid off. Negative reinforcement wouldn't be practical at work, do you have any suggestions? Thanks
I would not narrow addiction down to just smoking, drinking, and eating. There are probably tons of people addicted to harder stuff that clicked off of the video even tho it could have helped them
Practical Psychology my bad habit is cracking my fingers, back, neck, toes and elbows... What shall I do?! My guess what the trigger is: always when I stop doing an action... For example when I stop writing
I feel that for the "negative reinforcement" or positive punishment to work with me the punishment should be something like breaking a leg, banging my head on the wall or tearing a thousand dollars, because I've already tried all kinds of punishment for my bad habits and none of these helped at all =p
what about eating chocolate when u r feeling stress or super anxious. stress and anxiety being a trigger I guess. honestly wish to know. How do u deal with that kind of trigger?
I feel like I am kind of addicted to sugar so what I do is I try to make sure sweets aren't at home much so its harder to get. But if I do get sweets I'll get like hershey's kisses so I can just eat a few. Or put my chocolate in the freezer so when I get it I have to wait longer to eat it which makes it less appealing.
I've only watched 3 of your videos and thought they were all very helpful and informative. Drawing those images (clip art or not) really helps me focus on what's being said, most people do slow slideshows or film themselves talking, which is distracting.
1 procrastinate too much 2 addiction to pmo 3 to eat without enough infor about nutrition ( I must take time to search a way to get protein without meat, and with an ecological mind) 4 violent talking 5 stay too much time alone with devices
Regular smokers become addicted to nicotine. This is not simply a bad habit, like bitting your fingernails, that can simply be overcome with "mindfulness". It's a very real and powerful PHYSICAL addiction that causes terrible WITHDRAWS when you try and quite. As a former smoker that has gone thru the terrible process, I can speak from experience. I see the positivity in this video but maybe don't confuse habits with addiction and then offer solutions when you really don't understand what you are speaking about.
If you're trying to stop a behavior, it's positive and negative punishment. It's the introduction of something or the taking away of something to stop a behavior. Reinforcement is to increase a behavior. How you define it is the opposite of what it is, which is the general misconception.
If you are addicted you do not need triggers in the first time of being abstinent. The lack of the substance is enough. Don't mash up bad habit and addiction.
Avoiding triggers is not the way to go. Go for a walk instead of drinking? Walk by 5 pubs in 7 minutes. There are always triggers and it is important to recognize them, but not to try to avoid them. It's not possible in many cases.
We will get into that with the next video of replacing habits, just do something different, but similar. Instead of smoking, eat twizzlers. Instead of drinking alcohol, drink water. Instead of playing on your phone, download Kindle and see how long it takes to read a book. Hope this helps :)

Abhinav Verma I would guess if the anger is directed at another person get that person beforehand to know if it does happen they are to not argue with you. I know I enjoy arguing sometimes and if the other person didn't engage it wouldn't be the same
I had read and applied Alan Carrs principles and they worked for a while. Many many attempts with many different techniques and an equal number of failures.. I know its similar to using methadone to fight a heroin habit and not ideal but sometimes harm reduction is a step forward even if its not the idea solution. Always learn something from your presentations. Thanks.
Gambling is a hard habit to get rid of, but most people like it because they either 1) want some type of risky adrenaline rush, or 2) they're looking for the fastest monetary gain. If 1, save up to go skydiving, scuba diving, or other rare "adventurous" event that gets your adrenaline pumping and look forward to it. If 2, understand that most gambling is rigged, and all of it is rigged against you, move away from casinos (to avoid being sucked in), pay for your gas at the pump (to avoid buying scratch offs), and anything else that may trigger your betting habit. Hope this helps :)
Thank you man , i really appreciate the tip . I love your channel and your videos , i've been watching all your videos for months . However , another problem that i think i have is that i'm confused with everything in my life . Like i cant really find my purpose or what to do in life like others . Some say that they have talent or they like something , but not me . The only think i like is money , dont get me wrong xD Sorry about my english tho , im still trying to make it perfect.
King Cali Most people don't know their purpose or change their purpose from time to time. Best way to go about it is to think about what you enjoy most in life and try delving deeper into that part of it. If you can't think of anything try out new things and see what sticks. Just don't be discouraged when trying something new and failing since thats what happens most of the time with something you are unfamiliar with. But don't forget this will take time and effort. Self improvement isn't something you finish. You do it till you die.
My god, the opposite of reward is punishment, not tax. Do you want your viewers to be kind of informed or informed. Don't even have the balls to say the right word! Anyway, the rest of the video was kind of ok. +1 like
The dark Dolphin there is a fungus in your intestines called candida which feeds off of high fructose corn syrup and processed sugar-- both of which are in all candies. candida will actually force you to eat more sugary foods, allowing it to spread into your bloodstream, which results in you getting yeast infections. just remind yourself with every candy you eat, you help that fungus propagate through your body.

I think when ever you get the urge for any addiction you're trying to quit. being present noticing that it's an urge and thinking about the benefits of not doing it and thinking about the long term benefits really helped me.

Delete the app, or install an extension that doesn't let you be on TH-cam for more than 15-30 minutes a day
Practical Psychology can you recommend any methods for phone?
Psicologia21 put a time switch to your wifi. program it to a goal. for instance max 2hours a day.

Practical Psychology I've found something called guided access for all iOS devices that limits the time you can use your device. There's no need to download apps. Thx for the help.
I like how you used psychology research such as positive reinforcement. Science is our friend 🙂
Its a common misconception that positive and negative refer to the stimuli in regards to these psychological theories, when in actuality positive and negative refer to either the introduction or removal of a stimuli, and reinforcement and punishment refer to either increasing or decreasing habitual behavior.
That's what I thought too but it had been so long since I had a psychology class that maybe I had got it wrong.
Bad habits I have - procrastinating on tasks that I want to do: lack of motivation, laziness. Solution: get inspiration, increase stamina through exercise, eat and drink well to be more active
- speaking in a too soft voice, sometimes others can't hear me: shyness. Solution: practicing speaking in a mirror, forcing myself to socialize more.
- Eating too junk food: boredom, like the taste. Solution: eat more healthy food that's also tasty, practice more self control
- Drinking too much soda: to drown sorrow I guess, like to relax for a while. Solution: do it less often, two times per week
at most
Summarizing the video at the end is a good idea. Good video.
Thanks!
Wish your book was still in print, as I don't do kindle. Thank you for this video series!
First of all, I REALLY needed this vid - so thank you so much!
Hey practical psychology, I just want to say that I really love your videos and really enjoy watching them :)
Thanks man
My bad habit is video games. I hardly ever play much honestly, but when I do I feel I've wasted time and could've been spending that time more effectively.....
keep it going practical Psychology
dude i am from India and me and my friends really like to watch your video we will love to watch a video on wisdom or some thing dill with best life living tips. thankyou you are doing very good work love from India.
Great video! That's what Practical Psychology should be about, practical tips! Greetings from Poland ;)
Awesome Video as always !
They say the first three days are the hardest, I think.
So I got into a position where I didn't have easy access to tobacco.
Either because it was late in the night, or far from tobacco shops for 3+ days.
Right now I'm using gums to keep any urges at bay.
Lamborghini's don't have commercial because the people that can afford them aren't sitting around watching TV.
Hey! Nice video. Nice that you are trying to make more videos.
But you should study more about Behavior Analysis. It surely would help you understanding and framing you practical psychology tips. And there is actually one concept error in the video: what you are calling "negative reinforcement" is called "positive punishment" in Behavior Analysis. Getting those concepts straight will probably help you.
Love the vids. Very insightful. Keep it up the great work!
Thanks for the feedback!
Great video I'm watching this everyday
Never mind. I just got to the end of the vid and you already mention the rubber band negative reinforcement :)
Nice tips, thank you 🙌🏻
Thanks a lot, really helpful video
Good video! But I miss the background music like it was on your "older" videos.
Anyway, I've got a question: Is procrastination a habit? I mean this is something that one does frequently. If so, I think that's my biggest bad habit. And do you have any videos on procrastination respectively have you planned to do some videos about that?
Miep
procrastination is a bad habit, where the trigger is your unwillingness to perform a task. to combat this, you can set a reward for yourself or have someone reward you after the task has been completed.
ShadowIceFire Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try!
I wouldn't recommend self negative reinforcement especially if you have low self respect because it can easily turn into self harm. Its much better to do positive reinforcement. But also make sure your "reward" doesn't go against your goals.
if I make a list they will be ~1000 BH😱
BTH, great video, and info too
love your videos, thank you!
Glad you enjoy them!
straight to the point- the concrete examples that you give are really useful, they offer a kind of better understanding of the actual method and its application
also the mention of meditation could've been around in this video :D
All togheter, all i see is a good video, keep ''practicing'' these are only getting better if you will to ^_^
Yes, I agree with the meditation comment, thanks for the feedback!
Great video. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed!
Thank you for making this video
Bad habit No 1: going to the comments section reading comments and probably laughing at the moment.
You cannot destroy a trigger. You can only REPLACE the routine once the trigger starts the cue for the routine to begin.
I am constantly on my phone, even at work. This is one of my bad habits I need to get rid off. Negative reinforcement wouldn't be practical at work, do you have any suggestions? Thanks
I personally think you should add your old background music ,the content seems a bit dull without it
Thanks for the feedback, I might add it back in the last 5 videos of this course :)
I agree :)
Practical Psychology keep up the nice work
I would not narrow addiction down to just smoking, drinking, and eating. There are probably tons of people addicted to harder stuff that clicked off of the video even tho it could have helped them
I just bought the book
Awesome dude:) Im looking forward if you are going to share what you made without making any new content ;)
Glad to see you back!
Practical Psychology my bad habit is cracking my fingers, back, neck, toes and elbows... What shall I do?! My guess what the trigger is: always when I stop doing an action... For example when I stop writing
miner_sulegl
that isn't a bad habit at all.....
I feel that for the "negative reinforcement" or positive punishment to work with me the punishment should be something like breaking a leg, banging my head on the wall or tearing a thousand dollars, because I've already tried all kinds of punishment for my bad habits and none of these helped at all =p
You should make a few more videos on managing your money.
what about eating chocolate when u r feeling stress or super anxious. stress and anxiety being a trigger I guess. honestly wish to know.
Thanks to this video it makes 23 years that i don't smoke I just vape now
I am a day what I mean person. When frustrated I say to much. I need to stop telling everything and keep it to myself.
I've only watched 3 of your videos and thought they were all very helpful and informative. Drawing those images (clip art or not) really helps me focus on what's being said, most people do slow slideshows or film themselves talking, which is distracting.
Smoking in high school? Ha! I know that there are elementary kids smoking in my area! Beat that!
....Wait.
Taking pain meds daily without prescrption. I have BPD im aware of why but cant help it
Great material. I prefer shorter videos. (7 minutes is a good number.)
1 procrastinate too much
2 addiction to pmo
3 to eat without enough infor about nutrition ( I must take time to search a way to get protein without meat, and with an ecological mind)
4 violent talking
5 stay too much time alone with devices
Good Job
Wow!! I m your big fan.
Which software are using for this types of videos?
Regular smokers become addicted to nicotine. This is not simply a bad habit, like bitting your fingernails, that can simply be overcome with "mindfulness". It's a very real and powerful PHYSICAL addiction that causes terrible WITHDRAWS when you try and quite. As a former smoker that has gone thru the terrible process, I can speak from experience. I see the positivity in this video but maybe don't confuse habits with addiction and then offer solutions when you really don't understand what you are speaking about.
I have no bad habits cuz I am awesome :)
FUCK....rehabilitation process becomes very easy once you get systematic and have a plan.
I kinda like the background music
Thanks for the feedback, I'll test it on future videos :)
The definitions of positive and negative reinforcement are incorrect
If you're trying to stop a behavior, it's positive and negative punishment. It's the introduction of something or the taking away of something to stop a behavior. Reinforcement is to increase a behavior. How you define it is the opposite of what it is, which is the general misconception.
Yes, I fixed this in the book before I published, and wrote about it in the description, just couldn't fix it in the video in time
If you are addicted you do not need triggers in the first time of being abstinent.
It's not possible in many cases.
negative triggers also dont last if you ONCE got the reward you got before reframing the situation. But for the first days it might help.
What if the Trigger is being bored? You can't be not bored all the time. Im guessing pure negative reinforcement is the key then?
We will get into that with the next video of replacing habits, just do something different, but similar. Instead of smoking, eat twizzlers. Instead of drinking alcohol, drink water. Instead of playing on your phone, download Kindle and see how long it takes to read a book. Hope this helps :)
Practical Psychology fuckin genius! I guess I need to replace masturbation with sex tho.. kinda hard, but I'll work on my social life
Can laziness be considered a bad habit?
András Fáy id say that laziness goes deeper than that. It sure is bad...

How to get rid of sleeping too much and still feeling tired?
How do you negatively reinforce everytime you lose your temper?
Abhinav Verma I would guess if the anger is directed at another person get that person beforehand to know if it does happen they are to not argue with you. I know I enjoy arguing sometimes and if the other person didn't engage it wouldn't be the same
So I smoke but nearly all of my friends do too and I dont want to get rid of them
surfing on social media every day 6-8 hour's
If you wanna stop smoking and drinking then just stop smoking and drinking lol I quit easily! Been sober for about 1 year now!
Congratz! :D
great!
Is watching all your videos a bad habit??? Lol I have no bad habit other than eating too much sometimes
Nooooooo :D
I swapped smoking for vaping. There was no other way for me.
I'd agree, I wish I would've used this as an example in the next video on replacing habits!
Thanks.
Maje video on how to improve book reading
Need some examples of ur bad habits guys
My only habbit is betting , how can i get rid of that ?
0:10 Why's Toon Link in a suit?

I eat way to much candy but i dont want to stop it because CANDY IS FUCKING AMAZING am 15 btw
The dark Dolphin
there is a fungus in your intestines called candida which feeds off of high fructose corn syrup and processed sugar-- both of which are in all candies. candida will actually force you to eat more sugary foods, allowing it to spread into your bloodstream, which results in you getting yeast infections. just remind yourself with every candy you eat, you help that fungus propagate through your body.
