    My father died from brain cancer in 99' and we joined the action. Our own federal government knew the water was toxic for 30 plus years and allowed our families to continue using the water. Next time you think our government gives a darn about us. Just remember this suit and our vets who have done their duty and served with pride. And their own government killed them. I'm a tad upset that even the VA did nothing to help Marines like my father. The same VA our tax money funds. This isn't a left or right issue. It's our own government knowing there was Marines dying and neither side doing anything until now. Semper Fidelis (always faithful) unfortunately our government wasn't faithful to our Marines.

      Much sympathy for your loss. But, can't help but believe these "ambulance chaser" law firms really don't give a damn either as long as they see a good opportunity to get their 40%. All they really need is the "perception" that your cancer or stroke or Parkinson's or any other ailment can be eluded to be caused by some inexplicable contamination event. My opinion is basically they are scum preying on the most unfortunate of society.

      I lost my father to cancer in 1995 as well. I was 15 years old and my father was 39. He died just five months after he was diagnosed. Today, I am a Hospital Corpsman veteran, and I want the Government to be be accountable for what they do to our veterans in the past, present and future.

    I have received multiple agreements from attorneys with 1/3, 33 1/3 and 40% contingent fee clauses. The caveat emptor for me is, in addition to the contingency fees is the costs, interest and other fees with no maximum. WTF! we could end up with very little of nothing. READ AND UNDERSTAND THE AGREEMENT before you sign.

    • @woodslawyers

      While we can't speak for other law firms, we work on a contingency basis, meaning our clients pay nothing if we don’t win the case. If we win an appeal, we assess a fee of 20% of back pay awarded by the VA. Here’s some additional information about that: www.woodslawyers.com/much-veterans-disability-benefits-lawyer-cost/

      The less they get, the more the lawyers get and the American taxpayer gets to make up the loss. When it comes to stupid shit that our government does and has been guilty of doing to us for years we could sue ourselves into oblivion and no one except the lawyers will prosper. Let's not open that Pandora's Box of litigations.

    The offset provision might result in a loss for veterans depending on the amount, particularly since attorney fees, plus expenses (experts, investigation expenses and other "expenses" of litigation) may be considerable! Veterans: Beware!

    • @woodslawyers
      @woodslawyers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi David, we have heard similar concerns from veterans. There are several factors working in veterans' favor. One is presumption: The federal government has already established many health conditions presumptively associated with the toxic water at Camp Lejeune, meaning they concede the two are connected. The other is the standard of proof, which is at least as likely as not. We don't anticipate expenses for evidence gathering to be costly for veterans, because most veterans have records showing their time and place of service. We're happy to address any additional concerns or questions as they come up.

    Is it true that dependents living on the base, would only possibly be able to receive VA medical benefits but not other compensation? What about miscarriages? ( can those be considered a wrongful death claim?) Is this like a massive tort claim or class action?

    • @woodslawyers
      @woodslawyers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Camp Lejeune settlement is a mass tort claim, not a class action. The VA currently offers health care benefits for veterans and families of Camp Lejeune for certain conditions. Civilians and veterans who lived or worked at Camp Lejeune before 1987 are eligible for compensation from the U.S. government. Miscarriages are covered under this lawsuit. If you have any more questions about this, you can reach us at 800-544-2108, or you can request a free consultation here: www.woodslawyers.com/veterans-disability-lawyers/camp-lejeune-water-contamination-claims/?.com&CommentShare

    • @woodslawyers
      @woodslawyers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great question. You can receive VA benefits and join the Camp Lejeune lawsuit. Veterans who participate in the Camp Lejeune lawsuit will still be eligible to receive VA disability benefits and should see no change to their monthly payments. However, the amount of money you receive in a Camp Lejeune water contamination settlement would be offset (or reduced) by the amount you have already received in VA disability compensation for related health conditions.

    • @derricklockhart9650
      @derricklockhart9650 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      NOTE: The Camp Lejeune Justice Act covers that question in detail. In short: If the cancer was directly related to the water exposue, their will be an offset of any compensation you may receive. Please consult with an attorney, who specializes in Camp Lejeune water contamination exposure claims.

    Better to avoid ambulance chasers (remember in a class action lawsuit , the one who files the action initially recieves 25% of the total award and the remaining litigants recieve a portion of the remainder) So better to file individualy for higher return! And remember the first suits filed will contain facts discovered in the due diligence and discovery ! I suggest waiting a bit and follow the leaders! Retropay from the time of injury (unless Im misstaken is mentioned in the language of the act) . That is what I am looking for!
