I was a Marine stationed at CL in the 80s. I have lesions on my skin, eyes, thyroid, and kidneys. My claim is over 8 years old. They hire SMEs to make up reasons to deny. They are not competent. Their denials are ridiculous . They want you die or lose your mind. I don’t know if the poisoning was worse or the treatment we receive in the disability claims process. I have tried to get help from organizations such as AMVETS and they have no clue and do nothing. We are treated so disrespectfully!
Go to American Legion and sign a Power Of Attorney (POA). They help but no matter what, appeal it to the Board of Veterans’s Affairs (BVA) where a judge can overrule the VA’s decision.
Make sure you file an appeal at least once a year to keep you original filing date live. If you let it lapse past a year and they later award you disability, they will not go back to the original diagnosis or filing if it expired. Can cost you $100s of thousands. I know, I received a 6 figure back pay because I kept my original filing date alive.
Thank you for your service. I'm so sorry you're being denied. This is horrible and I can't believe the government continues to treat veterans in such a manner. I hope all the SMEs realize what they're doing is wrong and they all quit or a judge comes forward and says SMEs are not allowed to handle claims.
I just came across this as my nephew is there now, this scares the heck out of me. Even if the water is clean, how far will they go to cover up a mess they made. As my nephew gives his all to this place, this is how they treated veterans.
My Dad's bestfriend he served with and stationed here, he suddenly got cancer and deteriorated quickly over about 6months and died. R.I.P. Kenny Curtis!! From the containment in the water 100%
Please the VA and United States Marine please give our veterans the justice that they deserve. My brother pass away in 2022 from throat cancer He was on that base in 1980 to 1984. His family got a lawyer went to court on August 1, 2024 his case was approved for the elective option and we are still waiting for his settlement! It’s sad that u fight and serve for ur country and get treated like u are nothing… 😮
I was a marine recruit at Lejeune in 1957. The USMC has a record of all stationed there, so why do we need lawyers. To prove our tenure on that base???
I get at least 10 e-mails a day regarding this, which makes this whole thing seem like a scam.....and did this government really not care about poisoning soldiers and their families for over 40 years. Plus dont the government have the names of everyone living and working there over the years....do the right thing and notify them and make it right, instead of the way its being done
That's why I stopped going to the VA hospital because they just don't know what they are doing. There's too many doctors and nurses who never served in the armed forces working in the VA health system. And it should be our own people in there people who really care about veterans.
I know this story all too well. My husband filed a claim in June of 2015, we are still waiting. We had mounds of test results, studies, 2 nexus letters from 2 neurologist, genetic testing (which proved his genes were normal), etc. We had a teleconference January of 2021. We still have no answer. About 5 years ago, he was assigned an SME to review his appeal. I looked her up via the medical board; she was a convicted felon! This person was going to decide my husbands future? I don’t think so. Yes, just wait long enough, they will die. A great way to treat the people that fought for our freedoms. 😡 Semper Fi…
December of 2015 and my case is on the BVA docket after a remand back to VA due to the failure of the VA to obtain my Social Security medical records but the VA waited so long to ask the records had been destroyed. Keep in mind the Board told the VA to request the records and not whether they had kept the records obtained in a prior claim and that would be a good reason why they had not requested the records for this claim so they did exactly what the Board told them to do. The VA also used information from 2012 to deny my claim instead of Information from the 2015 IOM Review of VA Clinical Guidance for Health Conditions ...which specifically contradicts 2012 information and as of 2019 my local VA clinic had never heard of Camp Lejeune and noted in my medical records they thought I was delusional for claiming I was exposed to contaminated water.
@@marcusyelton9027 I’m so sorry. I pray that you get your claim approved. My. Husband is just getting worse month by month. Crickets from the BVA. Beyond frustrating….7 years later. 😞
Yes, I am having the same experience at a VA in Chicago that just because I continue to complaint about my neck and back pain, the VA Pain Clinic labeled me delusional or suffering from mental illness.
Me too I have been experiencing medical malpractice at a Chicago VA Hospital at the pain clinic that also labeled me having mental issues just because I continue to complaint about neck and back pain.
I believe that, All Marines that were station at Camp Lejuene (CL) who were exposed to this dangerous toxic water should all receive the U.S. Highly Decorative Military Service"Medal Of Honor" and other Military Service Medals and Ribbons for the Big Sacrifice To the CL Toxic water.
1:32 “The U.S. Govt acknowledges, that from 1953 to 1987, nearly 1 million veterans and civilians at Camp LeJeune were potentially exposed to dangerous chemicals in the drinking water.”
I can tell you from experience... I am a Marine that was stationed at MCAS El Toro '78 to '82. Look up "toxic El Toro" . My case with appeals has been going on 10+ yrs! VA plays the waiting game. They sent me to a civilian OB/GYN for autoimmune disorders. Despite 3 nexus letters from 2 doctors & a California toxicologist, everything of evidence in my favor seems to be overlooked.
This is a travesty. My father and mover lived in on base housing from over 18 months in late 50s at Camp Lejeune. While stationed there she had miscarriage, and less than year later lost a kidney! A few years later I lost my sister to leukemia! My dad suffers from Parkinson attributed to Lejeune nut as of today has not received one payment for all the suffering they’ve endured for almost 60 years! Death of my sister and loss of my mothers kidneys set them back years financially after his honorable discharge from the USMC.
My wife died five years ago from her exposure, we were a part of the suite but after she died I haven't heard anything from anyone about our case . I would like to hear from one and let my wife and I tell our story.

I assist Veterans with submitting claims. Veteran’s that submit claims for water contamination are often times denied if the conditions are not on the presumptive list. I say still submit the claims, and put the claim in appeal if it’s denied. More importantly, get your own private medical evidence from a physician that could write a medical opinion linking the condition to the containments in the water.
It took 2 years for the VA to acknowledge our claim of Multiple Myeloma. Went to our family Dr. to pursue treatment. Could have died waiting for the VA!!!
Dependents and civilian employees who were affected may get health care ( if they're lucky) but not other forms of compensation. Look up " The Few, the Proud, the Forgotten."
It's the reason they hide in anonymity, they know they lie & are wrong at the VA " business " admin office. Karma will return for those crooked crony employees!!!

It bothers me MORE that they tried to cover it up. I was there from 77 to 81 with only 3 months away at Quantico. Had prostate cancer that the VA dragged their feet on so my brilliant wife suggested Obamacare. That rapid response saved my life. We've had 2 miscarriages and my sperm test came back with anomalies and low motility. I hope I find the right law firm for this. Any suggestions?
My dad, grandpa and uncle all drank water from there. They are now applying for consultation and my dad is going to apply for me to as I’m almost 21 and have cerebral palsy. He thinks the water could’ve contributed to that in a way
This is SAD…. We’re committed to serve our country with pride and the country turns their back on you. They want you to go to the hospital millions of time for evidence and they still denied your claim.. Now they are proposing new changes to even make it harder to claim tinnitus, mental health and sleep apnea. As per a source , they want to save money and decrease the benefit to the veterans.
Even with a nexus letter they will deny sleep apnea and unemployability (TDIU) and other such claims till the very last appeal. Then You spend years waiting for a hearing at the board of appeals. Their hope is for veterans to give up or die before they give up these benefits.
i have to agree that the way we handle va health care. i know of friends who served in WWII. To a bunch of friends who aerved they had pstd before it was discovered its is war shock. some of this was self treated by drinking alcohol until stone druink .

I had a va doctor state in my records that more likely than not my heath problems have been caused by the water at camp Lejeune. The SME general doctor disapproved my claim and dismissed the VA neurologist who has treated many veterans from Lejeune. Unreal man.
I server in Vietnam and I was exposed to Agent Orange and then I was based at Camp Lejeune from July of 1966 to March 30th of 1967. I like all American vets have to deal not only with cancer but a host of health problems. The Healthcare system for the VA is so bad now. I had to move my medication out of the VA. The Pharmacy is so bad that when you order a 30 days supply of medication, it takes 37+ days to receive that medication. The VA is hiring people who can't even count to 30. For example, You put in for a prescription let's say on O9/ 23, and that makes the refill you put in should be 10/23 for the refill to be refilled by that date. but it was put in the system as 11/04. Just do the math.
Just another reason why I'm glad I never served. I paid attention to how many vets have been and still are being treated badly by the VA along with PTSD and other injuries. It's a mess but I'm certain pretty much every military is this way.
I lost my husband. He was in the marines stationed at camp leguene. The VA denied our complaint advising it was not service connected. My husband had leukemia myleodyplastic syndrome and acute anemia. He passed away in June 2014. He finally got approved Nov 2017. 100 percent disabled and was service connected. We were fortunate enough to to meet the director of duke cancer institute. Every Thursday at the VA in Durham NC we would be their and that is the day that the director would come to the VA oncology unit and visit Drs and patients. The day my husband died he found out and called me and asked what he can do to prove these diseases come from benzene that was in the water. He wrote a letter to the VA and forwarded me a copy. In Nov 2017 the VA decoded that he was 100 percent disabled and it was service connected. This is a terrible system. Denied Till u die
Something incredibly promising is I got an AD on my phone for a lawsuit reaching out to the victims of the camp and I am hoping people get to see it and just like how my family benefited from the mesothelioma after someone from my family died from it I hope the victims from the camp are able to receive their money and are able to afford the cost of their injuries and not be forced into poverty
2.5 years ago I was on a video conference regarding this issue. Someone came on line from the VA claims department unaware that the video conference was open to "outsiders" and stated that they always reject claims even if they are on the Presumptive List. A VA Lawyer asked him to repeat what he had just said and he did. The conference was paused and when it came back on the guy was gone and we moved to a knew subject..... The really sad part was he knew the supposed Marine Corps Veterans Advocate Group was on the conference call and had no issue saying this out loud.
👀wait a damn minute now, I was on base as a baby but my mom said she gave me fluoride water ( baby water) my grandfather better be looking into this! He has Niropothy( I probably spelled wrong) no feeling in his feet, mostly, and his hands sometimes too.smdh he stays watching the news so I already know.
This is critical info that I really really am glad to know about. It reveals so much about how the government and it’s good intentions are always so trash and politically driven.
I was born at Camp LeJuene in March '59, my sister in October '57. By October of '61 we were at Jax, where my other sister was born. Of course, our Mother was at CampLe Juene longer. Out father who was in the military; died of a heart attack/disease from what I'm told? Two of us are on disability and have combo Neuro, bone and joint and auto immune issues. No cancer to speak of, though I have a basal cell skin cancer lesion at the moment. My eldest daughter died from full body, up into neck, down into hip and leg Cancer in January of 2019 after having had a previous mastectomy. They may not think our issues can be attributed to our exposure in vitro and as a young children? But our health is not what it should be though it's better than some. How do they know what that exposure did to us? I'm thinking of filing a claim anyway? Just for documentation purposes.
It looks every ambulance chaser I'd jumping on the band wagon. God bless our heroes for serving our great nation. I hope they get what they deserve. The VA thinks they bury this the problem will go away
..the VA doesn't have a unilateral view of claims. When I was in Virginia I got no assistance. When I came to New York it was the exact opposite. Now my sister did work at that VA during that time and she had a lot of friends there. I have no doubt this helped me tremendously. But I have went in front of one grader with the exact same issues as another. One said no, the other said yes. My sister actually used to date a guy that was stationed there when all of this came out. I should reach out to him and get his insight. I think this piece said everything that needs to be said though.
I can't stand their system. They want credit to serve those who have served. Yet someone that has no idea who you are that's reviewing your claim, and only knows you by paper is deciding "yes or no".
This is absolutely sickening I am also a veteran dealing with denial of appeals and countless appt to prove my status on a different situation and they just don’t give a damn even after clear proof. We can’t live a normal life and the only thing the va thinks we care about is money that technically we are owed! We decided to protect and serve and this is how they treat us it is so insane and sad

It's not just Camp Lejeune, Fort Devens Massachusetts is rated a 42/100 on toxicity and Camp Lejeune is rate a 33/100 on the superfund site. My husband passed on 3/3/21 from liver cancer which was caused by the drinking water on Fort Devens.
I have been contacted by several lawyers for this lawsuit. They want 40% of our settlement. The lawyers should be ashamed of themselves that they would take advantage of our poisoning. We are Heroes, we fought for our country, and the lawyers still want to rob us and our families when we have been given a slow death sentence. I have Kidney Cancer and my Heart was effected as well. I am a 100% DAV. Retired US Marine. Contact your Congressman and tell them to apply the Federal Tort Claims Act to the fees that lawyers can charge. Be careful Marines, lawyers are ripping us off.
My Duke doctors told me, in no uncertain terms, (being extremely adamant), to contact an atty and the VA would need and want to hear my story! Been sick, 17 surgeries, since only a few months at Tarawa Terrace, Camp LeJeune MCB
I have medical problems my sister has 3 miscarriages my brother and his wife never kids she had a daughter before meeting my brother we lived in New River part of Camp Lejuene but these lawyers have done nothing for us!
How many of you are hearing the year 1988 getting lower to 1985 which is lowering the number of people able to have a lawsuit due to health issues from being at Camp Lejeune!!!. That's not right at all!!!!!! The year changes in each commercial!!! What ever year start from to 1988 was the first commercial and if you watch the commercials on TH-cam vs. The Tv commercials the 1988 gets lower which lowers the number of people. ((Watch and listen))

Watch the 2011 documentary: “Semper Fi: always faithful”. Its about a Marine fighting about this camp. He did this due to his daughter passing away of leukemia, after living at Lejeune Camp.
The presumptive list contains conditions for people on their death bed with 3 to 5 years to live. No money can compensate you. How are you going to live on $3300 a month. Rent 1200, food 800, phone bills 120, clothing 120 utilities 200, transportation 240, health care 600.
I urge affected veterans to deal with the veterans administration directly - do not employ private lawyers as they will do nothing more than get you enrolled in the VA health system, which you can do on your own, and charge humongous fees. The VA will send you an application form and information about the documents you need to get you enrolled. It is a lengthy process but, once you file a claim, the benefits, if awarded, will be retroactive to the date of their receipt of your application. Good luck to all.

I hope all the SMEs realize what they're doing is wrong and they all quit or a judge comes forward and says SMEs are not allowed to handle claims.
Same here
I just came across this as my nephew is there now, this scares the heck out of me. Even if the water is clean, how far will they go to cover up a mess they made. As my nephew gives his all to this place, this is how they treated veterans.
My dad has pancreatitis and he was there in the 80’s. They always denied him.
I'm so sorry they had to deal with that. Keep pushing and don't give up.
My husband was stationed at CL in 80’s and died very young of a very rare cancer.
My Dad's bestfriend he served with and stationed here, he suddenly got cancer and deteriorated quickly over about 6months and died. R.I.P. Kenny Curtis!! From the containment in the water 100%

The Va system should be ashamed on how they take care of veterans! It's crazy how they get away with the stuff they pull...
Semper Fi brother. Hopefully you all get your just deserves.
So much for the government caring about Vets...
It was approximately 22 years later after I left CL, that it was in 2007 the VA sent me some CL survey letter to fill out and return?
I can tell you from experience... I am a Marine that was stationed at MCAS El Toro '78 to '82. Look up "toxic El Toro" . My case with appeals has been going on 10+ yrs! VA plays the waiting game. They sent me to a civilian OB/GYN for autoimmune disorders. Despite 3 nexus letters from 2 doctors & a California toxicologist, everything of evidence in my favor seems to be overlooked.
Inexcusable!
My brother has Parkinson’s due to this situation!! 56 years old and disabled. He was denied benefits many times before finally getting approved
Please share me your number i can help you
This is a travesty.
I've had cancer twice from that mess,in 2009 and 2017. And continue to have issues.
At least your vaccinated right? Decades of toxic water killing people but people are worried about forcing vaccines on others.
@@MM-qp4pd sure am. Can't take chances with the unknown. Had 3 shots and doing fine 🙂
@@aBc-123-XyZ I have natural immunity. No vaxx. Doing excellent. All immune systems are different. Different people need different medicines. But one thing for sure - we all need clean water to be healthy. That's nothing anyone should take a chance on.
Yes Thank You but easier said than done.
my grandfather was here, ex marine. he died 2 months ago from ALS. was an extremely healthy individual. unfortunately his life was cut short.
It took 2 years for the VA to acknowledge our claim of Multiple Myeloma. Went to our family Dr. to pursue treatment. Could have died waiting for the VA!!!
Everytime I see these VA doctors they always want me to draw blood. I did for a while but stopped.
Do you have any references who still suffering from cancer due to this issues just let me know we are happy to help them
Dependents and civilian employees who were affected may get health care ( if they're lucky) but not other forms of compensation. Look up " The Few, the Proud, the Forgotten."
Killed my father. Was shocked to be with him and see it written on wall of veterans facility.
It's the reason they hide in anonymity, they know they lie & are wrong at the VA " business " admin office. Karma will return for those crooked crony employees!!!
At least your vaccinated right? Decades of toxic water killing people but people are worried about forcing vaccines on others.
I worked around generators when I was in the Army. I have claimed Tennitus a few times now with no service connecton. The VA sucks!!!
I was in Camp Lejuene for two weeks training for deployment to Lebanon at age 53 I was Diagnosed with T2 Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer I had Surgery Did Seven weeks Chemo and Thirty seven days of Radiation treatments I filed a Claim in 2015 for disability The VA never responded back but did take away my !0 Percent disability from 1985 in which I never received a dime for.My biggest regret in life today is serving six years of my life to a country that treats their Veterans like garbage.Obama said thirty days is the exposure required he is not a doctor. You would have to be a nut job to serve these criminals The VA took that 2.6 Billion dollars and spent it on themselves.
Please share me your number i can help you
I was there in 1974-1975, I was apart of the Camp Le Jeune Water Study and I fully understand. I would not even attempt to file I saw the corruption.
Why wouldn’t you file?
@@janicemcallister84 Would you put you life in the hands of the VA??? I know how they treat Veterans hundreds of stories of what they did to our Veterans especially today.
@@cowtoyscbc I don’t think the VA would have any authority with your filing and compensation. Regardless, may I ask you about some of the things you experienced? Privately, if desired. I’m trying to gain more insight into the things people witnessed/experienced.
They should have wrongful death compensation when they die of their camp lejune diease from the water
Keep getting emails about CAMP LEJEUNE claim lawsuit and have never been there 🧐
Even with a nexus letter they will deny sleep apnea and unemployability (TDIU) and other such claims till the very last appeal. Then You spend years waiting for a hearing at the board of appeals. Their hope is for veterans to give up or die before they give up these benefits.
First true thing I've seen from CBS in a decade.
i have to agree that the way we handle va health care. i know of friends who served in WWII. To a bunch of friends who aerved they had pstd before it was discovered its is war shock. some of this was self treated by drinking alcohol until stone druink

Wow
So much for Generals looking after their own marines
It reveals so much about how the government and it’s good intentions are always so trash and politically driven.
my husband was at camp lejeune and recently passed from small cell lung cancer. has anyone had this happen? what do i do?
Okay, I'll ask my brother if any of his friends were there. Thanks for the video.
Lejeune's water and barracks and buildings are hazardous still. Yet no one is wanting to fix it because of funding and laziness
I can't stand their system. They want credit to serve those who have served. Yet someone that has no idea who you are that's reviewing your claim, and only knows you by paper is deciding "yes or no".
CBS only scratched the surface... decades of negligence!!!
Wow...deny...deny...deny until we die!!! At the throne of grace praying for all Veterans submitting their claims. We have to keep fighting 😇🇺🇲
No, Veterans should no longer fight. Veterans need to shut down the VA and boycott the VA and seek help in the private sector.
Thats scary 400x times the amount, they didn't even tell them
This is absolutely sickening I am also a veteran dealing with denial of appeals and countless appt to prove my status on a different situation and they just don’t give a damn even after clear proof. We can’t live a normal life and the only thing the va thinks we care about is money that technically we are owed! We decided to protect and serve and this is how they treat us it is so insane and sad
Congratulations! You said the whole true and nothing but the true. Excellente writing.
I lived at 957 E Peleliu Dr, in TT1
WITH THAT DRY CLEANER RIGHT IN MY BACKYARD
BUT HAD NOT MOVED IN UNTIL THE END OF THEIR CUT-OFF TIME...
AM I ELIGIBLE?
One of my friends died on a hike there 2 hr hike before chow open at 6am
But they can send 40 billion to ukraine , sickening
They don't care about you, they just use you, my Father retired as a CW5 Chief Warrant Officer in the military.
How the f did VA get to another 50% backlog??
The husband was at Camp Lejune
This is why I take a knee!
Such a tragic event
I grew up in Jacksonville, NC. This is not exactly the way I wanted my hometown to get recognition. 🤦🏼
My brother was in Camp Lejune in 19972 . He was diagnosed with cancer both kidney . He had two operation to remove the cancer . The cancer started spending to his spine and all over his body. I had to put him in hospice where he died in the month of August 24 , 2024
Yes, 40% plus and accrued expenses
@@Sept2cfm1953 be sure to contact your Congressman oand Senator. Thanks, James
Yes, I agree. The VA has to help all Marines, Navy, military family... ECT that were at CL at all times not only till 1987.
This is crazy my grandpa was there these men an women serve are country my grandpa jus got diagnosed with pancreatic cancer
My best friend served there in 1987 had prostate issues and developed non-cancerous brain tumor that was terminal... are Tumors showing up????
VA doctors are misdiagnosing CL Marine Veterans.
Smedley Butler "War is a Racket" (1933)
He said war is NOTHING BUT rich people getting richer at the public's expense.
War is literally good for nothing.
Watch the 2011 documentary:
“Semper Fi: always faithful”.
Yes, that is 110% correct. Forget lawyers. File a claim and pursue it threw the VA. Don't need lawyers.
Great to know! I’m supposed be continuing my training there on the 6th of september😃
The only thing worse than the exposure related illnesses is the saturation advertising by greedy law firms.
I Am Truly SICK of CAMP LEJEUNE, because I never heard of It, up Until a Couple of Months ago, but now I, Along with everyone else, am Sick of Hearing about It!!!
Again, does anyone know what service organization can be trusted to help CL Veterans with filing a claim about the contaminated water at Camp Lejuene?
Same thing happened with US Airforce Veterans that we’re stationed at KI Sawyer
TH-cam keeps asking me if I got cancer from this camp despite not even being born before 1988 lol.
I would never take money that doesn't belong to me or doesn't apply to me that would be stealing and lying and being mischievous I can't do that that goes against my values trying my best then I'll do that and things like that that pertain to being honest with myself. God bless you and all those involved
The same dangerous contamination happened at Ft. Leavenworth. And it is still contaminated. So is Ft. Lewis. And high levels of dangerous metals in the water at Ft. Jackson.
I was there from 1972-1976... H&S Co. Maint. Bt. With this new law that was passed you not need to have cancer to receive benefits now. The law firm that is taking my case help right the new laws. They don't get any money unless they win my case. I have always delt with depresstion and nerve damage. Older i get the worst i am. i would suggest contacting and finding out more. Semfer Fi. Good Luck
