3 years ago I got off of Twitter. I realized that transformed from me following Sports to dragging me into the depths of political battles. I did enjoy those political battles and I thought I did my part. But one weekend I knew I had to get off because my health was suffering from all this. I said goodbye to all my Twitter friends over a couple of days, very heartfelt sentiments because I did find some Brave political Fighters they're pushing back against woke and leftism. But I had to leave and life is different now I'm living it more in the world as opposed to through Twitter

When you said "twitter was a huge part of my psyche," that really shook me. I'm 31, and social media didn't even exist until I was about 15. Even then, it didn't exist in the capacity that it exists today until I was already in my 20's. It's frightening to imagine how the internet is shaping human interaction and empathy, especially with people starting at such a young age. Social media is absolute reality distorting poison. I honestly wish that every young person would try living the way we lived in the 90's as a social experiment, if only for like a month or so, at some point in their lives. Just exist with no distractions, and no connection to the digital world. You'll quickly see how that changes human interaction and general perception of life. There wasn't really any open hostility towards one another like today(moral puritanism was the minority). In some cases, you could have grown up with someone and known them for years, yet still didn't know their every opinion. And the beauty of it is that nobody really cared to know, unless things somehow came up organically in conversation, which was rare except in very close relationships! Friendships weren't contingent upon having the right opinions, but even if you did have a few shitty opinions, it was almost unheard of to be socially exiled for it. It's like the dehumanization of social media has eroded empathy to the extent that people don't think twice about severing decade long friendships. Idk, sorry to ramble! But I'm always happy to see a young person speaking about this. Can't wait tp see your channel blow up!

Social media existed before then. It existed in the form of places like LiveJournal, which was the true birthplace of the 'social justice warrior' mentality that moved to places like tumblr and Dreamwidth following LiveJournal's sale to a Russian company, which began to abide by Russian laws and Russian users over other demographics. Dreamwidth is still active today, but exists for people to roleplay and to fight about roleplaying. tumblr is really where this SJW mentality took hold, and after they became emboldened there, moved to Twitter.
LiveJournal, FYI, started in the 1990s.

@@nachgeben this was a great addition to a fascinating original post. I grew up in the '90's and remember taking the subway 3 hours just to spend 7 hours with my friends eating cheap Chinese food, playing video games and arguing about rap music. When we were in elementary school, we were taught that "we could change the world" and that "it was our duty to perpetually fight for justice." This created an entire generation of SJWs with no war or battles: we grew up with a black Supreme Court Justice, top black entertainers and athletes, black astronauts, and then we even got a black president. BUT, just as we were about to turn the corner to reach the top of the mountain top MLK told us he dreamed about, SJWs, race grifters and guilt riddled liberals dragged us all back to base camp so they could buy a few more homes in Calabasas.

It is so unhealthy how a tool has become this like addictive entity that consumes life. @@heidibriones - I find it interesting that society labels certain ideology as right or left. The extreme right, according to popular culture, is fascism. The extreme left, communism. But from my experience the extreme right are die-hard libertarian and the ones that are depicted as extreme right are actually die-hard lefties. The ideologies of fascism and communism are of the same accord and splitting them into right or left was done purposefully to reject populism as one of the moral virtues the left espouse. In so doing, the left can now adopt the virtue of "inclusion" for the purpose of larger voter blocks. I rejected the left's ideology (though it was quite appealing as a young person) when I saw the reality of those "virtues" played out. High crime, high unemployment, high inequality. The left's mantra of compassion, diversity, inclusion, acceptance is built on a framework of underhanded sociopolitical lies.

Hi Kimi, once again, your psychological analysis is super on point. I’m not formally educated in psychology, but I am following your explanations of how these various issues you have been discussing affect people’s psyche (even if I need to rewind and listen a couple of times, lol). I would like to hear your expanded thoughts on the part of this video where you talk about the 80/20 principle and how you believe you weren’t getting anything out of the time you invested in Twitter. I would suggest that perhaps you *were* getting something out of all that time, albeit nothing positive.

The app was never meant for the things it's being used for today. As you said, it was for bands, businesses and individuals to give short updates on what was going on. Attempting to cram meaningful discussion about political or philosophical topics into the character limit is completely counter-productive because anything you might want to say, you have to oversimplify. Then, you get attacked because of that with an oversimplified rebuttal and the cycle of negativity never ends.

I deleted my Facebook because I realized, after I got into a heated discussion with one of my friends over the cancellation of Dr. Seuss, that I didn't want to associate my friends with their politics anymore. Too many times I was silently hurt by some of the political posts that I would see in my feed, not because someone out there felt that way about me for the color of my skin but that these were the ideas of some of my closest and dearest friends, people I would consider family. I have never thought less of them because they are darker than me but now racism is "trending"

I'm of the "older" variety and I can remember when everyone I knew from church and school got on Facebook. It was the next Sunday at church looking at these people that I knew intimately and feeling like I didn't, in fact, know them at all. What was represented online was completely antithetical to who they were in person. I knew then, nearly 20 years ago, that social media was a lie and I began to hate it.

Just discovered your videos, they’re wonderful, you’re so different than others out there who get so outraged and angry by every real or perceived injustice. I’ve never had a Twitter account and don’t understand the point of it. Why do you have to let everyone know what you’re thinking or what your opinions are 24/7? I keep mine to myself unless asked and then have to be cautious nowadays because I lean conservative and that’s anathema nowadays. Then people get upset that they get so much backlash from their tweets (is that correct?) Just stay away from it, a waste of time IMO. I can’t imagine evening having a Twitter account, seems more trouble than it’s worth. Keep up the good work, Kimi!

I was on Twitter 2013-2019 (13yrs-19yrs) and actually had a substantial amount of followers. During this time the social justice warrior generation were being molded, myself included. I didn’t realize it at first but it drastically changed the way I thought about the world and felt about my life. I was so loud and so wrong about so many things and those toxic views were being amplified on the platform. Basically I was not in touch with reality. I decided to get off because that virtual reality or Twitter culture was spreading to my peers in real life and it freaked me out. It’s like looking into a mirror and seeing a distorted monstrous figure and then realizing it’s you. I deactivated my account and haven’t looked back since. I’m only 22 but these past 3 years have been crucial in my developmental process. I can’t imagine where I’d be if I still had Twitter

@@marymitchell4617 As someone who used to work in graphic design, I can tell you that you are reading too much into it. A logo/icon needs to be reproducible at various scales, and small details can suffer at small scales, especially on screens. Design is also often driven by fashion as much as necessity, and we have clearly seen a trend towards abstraction in the past decade. Just consider the switch from “skeuomorphic” to plain geometric, flat shapes and textures in the iPhone interface. Anyway, I agree with you somewhat on the actual problems with social media; I used to spend a lot of time on Facebook and later Twitter, but have stopped using both during the last year as things have become so politicised.
