TH-cam has plethora of knowledge based content, lots of lectures, workshops, genuine people sharing their skills and ideas. Listen to podcasts, music, take virtual tours of places you`d probably never go to otherwise, learn how to cook, grow food etc. It is a great place for inspiration and also to some extend to build a community of shared interests. Of course, like everything in life, it needs to be used wisely. I only use FB for the interest groups or to support local entrepreneurs, artists, creators, farmers etc. There is place for everything, we just need to know how to use it. Now, after over a decade of the social media "products" we are getting more familiar with them and the dirt behind the scenes. We feed those companies with our time, data and money, so it only makes sense that we use the strength of our feedback to change their monopolies and hegemony before it is too late. As far as I remember they cannot exist without us, and the moment that flips we will be ruled by an "unaccountable algorithm."

I was the same, now I just watch educational documentaries and feel so much better with a ton of knowledge with what's actually happening around the world
Life without social media is less stressed, less comparitive and less concerned with getting instant validation. In my opinion, social media is the great evil of our time.
People don't call and ask a question - they type it in. People used to run inside and answer the ringing phone; now it's in their pocket and they might get back to it. Used to be if someone said they were going to do something, they usually did. Now it's really rare. Societies degenerate before they are conquered.
It's weird and extends to cell phones. We used to call each other on the phone. Now we're too bothered to do anything but text, and If I call people think I'm weird.
Even TH-cam seems to have similar effect. What I find is anything that has infinte stream of scrolling, combined with metric like # of views, like, comments etc contribute to the dopamine effect.
Bipul Das well. You can EASILY make it so TH-cam doesn’t have this dopamine effect. Have enough self control to switch off notifications and just get on to view videos that will better you.

I quit social media over 2 years ago. Now I'm hooked on TH-cam. Which is how I got here😂 I think the problem is having a screens on you at all times. Instead of being productive, when we get bored, we pull out our phones. Which kills creativity and imagination. we stop thinking about doing things to keep us occupied. Instead, we're scrolling for the dopamine fix. The more you feed, the more you need..
Right, that's why having a dumbphone is more enough than just deleting social media.. because you might scroll on your smartphone's gallery or just put your face in anything left not deleted in your smartphone. But dumbphone is just for phone calls and maybe text messages through sms
I've considered deleting Facebook many times, but I'm afraid I'm going to be in some town in the future and think I should contact someone I met there, and then remember that we just added each other on facebook and I have no way of reaching them. So I've tried to just avoid the news feed so I don't lose respect for people. I do still notice if I post something it's disappointing if it doesn't get much interaction, and to me that is the toxic part because as far as I can tell, Facebook doesn't show your content to many of your friends unless you're on there liking their stuff, too, which drags you back into browsing the timeline and spending more time staring at a feed of stuff you often shouldn't even know about them: Their childhood abuse stories, who they're sleeping with now, etc.

I've avoided all social media since the beginning, as I understood the negative implications at the time. And because of that, I've watched things change from a rare position. Over the last decade, the critical thinking capacity and subtle social etiquette skills of younger people has completely disintegrated. To sit down to dinner with a friend that you haven't seen in years, only to have them half-involved in catching up. People seem strangely pre-occupied with their phone and digital communications, and it's unbelievably rude. Yet somehow, they seem unaware of what's happening. Like an alcoholic who gets trashed at a wedding, and then wakes up the next day talking about what a great time they had. Something is seriously wrong when you're completely oblivious to the experience of all the other guests. There is a type of narcissism, related to social media exposure, and it's quickly and quietly spreading throughout society. People seem to feel so strongly about everything now, yet somehow they've lost the ability to think critically about anything. There should be louder alarm bells ringing, but everyone is addicted and manipulated by group-think an PC paranoia. I smell a (lab) Rat.
Yups, I cut FB almost 2 years. Was briefly back a few times, and I'm all, "Why am I on here?" But then again, I never been totally invested in social media. I wasted a lot of time on FB, but still had reservations. Didn't get really personal. I value my privacy and independence.

More utilitarian use for creation (recording, graphic design, writing code) and as a sidekick (no pun intended) to keep finances, times, dates, etc. all straightened out. I feel like I've been brought back to the idea of a personal Work Station. And so far, it really has been freeing with a new found appreciation. I feel like life has settled down quite a bit.

Oh my how true
The more social media we have, the more we think we're connecting, yet we are really disconnecting from each other.
People don't call and ask a question - they type it in.
People used to run inside and answer the ringing phone; now it's in their pocket and they might get back to it. Used to be if someone said they were going to do something, they usually did. Now it's really rare. Societies degenerate before they are conquered.
Exactly.
so true!
*On point.*
It's weird and extends to cell phones. We used to call each other on the phone. Now we're too bothered to do anything but text, and If I call people think I'm weird.

I've deleted my Facebook almost 3 years back I've never been happier and calmer as I am now.
Deleted mine about a year ago . I should have did it sooner lol
Oh good for you!
I'm not using mine for several month. Not missing it one bit
TH-cam is different though. Its less narcissistic and more educational. I mean i come here to watch live bands, audiobooks, debates, learn guitar, learn to cook, etc. You're bound to learn something from TH-cam compared to looking at people's selfies and tweets. I deleted all the video games on my phone n laptop too leaving me with only books/intellectual stuff, the gym i have at home and guitar which I'm quite happy with. Tony Robbins said that the problem is that people have useless habits and they excel at those useless habits and Marcus Aurelius advised to reduce the number of things you do(habits) and increase the quality of those things/habits/hobbies you do, and in my opinion they become jobs at a certain point. I take guitar, working out and the intellectual stuff (psychology, politics, literature etc) quite seriously and why not?
exactly, I havent been on Facebook for a month now but watching TH-cam all the time watching guitar lessons and educational videos! Why waste precious time on fb/Instagram when you can be on TH-cam learning guitar or new things.
Well the comment sections are often more toxic than chernobyl in 1986
chastemodest
Be careful, this infotainment is also deceiving, you will end up learning and planning that you won’t end up acting upon all that you know and plan.
WRONG! this site is loaded with b.s. content and most of it is garbage and disinfo. with the exception of checking out an occasional band, it's a waste of time most of the time.
TH-cam its like a father to me. If i have any questions i come here and get the answer
I did this already 2 years ago, don't miss it at all. I laugh at myself now thinking that I was busy with that nonsense. I only still watch TH-cam because of important informative videos like these.
I forced myself to uninstall every social media app except yt about 2 years ago to eliminate distractions from my life with the objective to crack one of the toughest exams in the world i.e UPSC ...I felt a longing for seeking attention and self gratification for weeks but over a period of time I started to achieve my targets with focus and dopamine was put to its original use as a reward hormone ....and today I feel very sharp, focussed and very close to achieving my objective!
It feels empowering in a very different sense.
Try quitting them and see for yourself.
.
Recently I read an article that said that every year 2 million people delete their facebook accounts.
I thought that that was awesome.
Good
Yea I deleted mine
.
So eventually, Facebook will become like Friendster and America Online.
Those were the days...
How many join though ?
@@housemaster1988 .
Millions of people still sign up but eventually the tides will turn.
I can admit I've found my concentration is getting slightly better, I've even taken up new hobbies and feel more driven. 🧘♂️
That's wonderful!
Excellent! I need to do the same
I play my guitar a lot more now
And also more sexy..
The irony is that TH-cam also is a social media. But I allways gonna use TH-cam for music and videos. I don't allways comment on videos tho..
I deleted Facebook and Instagram from my life several years ago (never was on Twitter or any of the others), and instantly---I kid you not---I felt so much less stressed and more positive. I also stopped watching or reading or listening to the news, and have felt even better.
I'm Nathan, and I am a Social Media addict. I have been clean 7 months now.
Guess you are no longer clean since you just posted on TH-cam.
Don’t think you did something, you shouldn’t have been addicted in the first place.
{Applause}
@Macline Merci
so what ?!you are know in social media !(TH-cam)😂
REAL LIFE = the original social network
Absolutely. Social is not on the internet.
I quit facebook about a year ago. It made me angry, depressed, anxious and a big ball of hate ...Nobody needs that crap in their lives! It's frightening just how much more narcissistic and anti-social people have become since facebook was invented.
I'm feeling the same way. I really need to delete FB.
Then delete them ppl and keep the ones you like
It's not social media thats the problem. It's ppls choice of circle
@@chrisstorey4781 people, pages, businesses, groups, news channels, ads etc the whole circle.
Yes, one has to be selective.
narcissistic and asocial**. Anti-social actually mean something different.
And please don't spread hate on me for correcting him. These two terminologies are important in the mental world and people need to start being aware of them.
Stated not dictated.
@@MoJo01 You're right it was a combination of all of that. Plus it being so addictive, when you're bored you automatically bring up facebook and scroll through. I was selective and just chose to get rid of it all together!
Social media was great allowing you to get back in touch with people you lost contact with decades ago right up until you remember why you lost contact with them to begin with.
I NUKED my facebook. I do feel better. I don't want to know what people are doing 24/7. Mystery is good.
Jess Willyard yea!
Well said
Mystery is very important. Maybe one of the most vital components of human existence, and here we are living in times where there is no space for mystery.
Jess Willyard Mystery is what makes for good stories and conversation, because now people have no idea what you have been up to.
As much as one can erase one's facebook, I did that. I chose the Nuclear option LOL@Mariah Kelli
I realized that Facebook just shows me there's no such thing as real friends and there's no such thing as real loyalty.. since deleting it, I really do feel a sense of peace and much happier n joy..👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾❤
Um.....there absolutely is such things as real friends and real loyalty. The point is that you will never find them on an online app.
That would be an Excellent Tshirt quote
There’s no such thing as friends. Just acquaintances.
H Vega I tell my 9 yr old little sister this all the time 🤣🤣 “are they your friends? No. Acquaintances? Yes” she’ll repeat it too! 🤣🤣
My mom always said, if it ain’t paying you! Why use it?
Lemme guess, you are jewish.
Turkish Punisher not even close.
That's how you was born
I think that your mother is a Diamond! 😎👍
Very smart words
I recently de-activated my Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn accounts. And LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!
"It is our job to experience ourselves without addictions." ~ Jaron Lanier
Who am I without my addictions?
I'm out. It's a huge psychological experiment and I felt increasingly like a lab rat.
Rex King well said!
Amen to that.
My rat has his own lab and his experiments are life changing.
Yups, I cut FB almost 2 years. Was briefly back a few times, and I'm all, "Why am I on here?" But then again, I never been totally invested in social media. I wasted a lot of time on FB, but still had reservations. Didn't get really personal. I value my privacy and independence.
I don’t always talk about how I quit social media and how bad they are.
But when I do, I do it in the comment section of a social media.
Yeah, but TH-cam isn't the hard stuff. It's the light beer of social media!
You’re interesting, man!
Love it! Someone who actually gets in!
tru dat hippocrites

I stopped using social media about 3 years ago. People assume that others want to know every move they make and we don't.
I deleted all my Social media at the beginning of 2020, Smartest thing i ever did.
youtube is sooooo addicting..........,,
what's the differences you noticed?
I've never had an FB account , this is the extent of my social media activity 👍
Life is good
But your commenting on TH-cam probably on your smartphone so what’s the difference. I bet you have TH-cam notifications on.
@@AmazingJayB51 big difference. TH-cam is an educational platform.
Absolutely. Bravo !
Just mustered the courage and deleted all my social media. It was honestly scary but I’m so glad I’m free from the bonds of addiction.
It's like crack.
@@kiasophia6869 exactly...facebook makes you wait 30 days of non use before they remove you from their system...JUST LIKE a drug.
You Tube IS social media...
You couldn't wait any longer to log onto social media(youtube), to make a comment. People really do have problem with social media
@@euqul good point. Thanks for letting me know how I’m a hypocrite and I’m failing, I appreciate it!
After getting rid of what social media I had (Facebook, and a Twitter account I never used) I found myself coming back to using my computer and phone as a tool again.
I didn’t use social media since 5 years. I only use TH-cam, which isn’t too “social”.
-But youtube is addictive as well.
100% i agree with you
TH-cam is our modern TV 📺 hehe
