Whoever made this pond did a great deed. There could be no better reward than watching our baby girls enjoying the cool water!!! Total peace and contentment!
Who would have thought that anything wallowing in mud could be so beautiful? I love how Misty is under the water as far as she can go, and pokes her snout out for air only. She so enjoys that.
How can one watch this and not smile and laugh? You can feel their delight, playfulness and joy, like little kids in a wading pool on a hot summer day. And their friendship? We should all be so lucky to have one as close, loving, and protective as these elephants get to one another. God bless The Tennessee Sanctuary.
Thank you, Elephant Sanctuary friends!!!! If I'm feeling down I just need to watch one of your videos and it always makes me feel better just feeling your love for these magnificent creatures of God. God bless!!!
Dulary had a swimming pool at the zoo which she favored, and it was because of her love of water and enjoyment of swimming that the Sanctuary dug a pond expressly for her.
THIS is the video I ask people to watch when they can't understand why life for an elephant in a zoo, alone, is unacceptable. Can't everyone see how happy these girls are? Ha! Wish I could join them!
I gues the poor things just didn't know what a water pool was, having been kept in obviously sadly inadequate conditions in whatever circus or zoo they came from. But now they're playing just like I saw the elephants in the Elephant Nature Park in Thailand play. How wonderful to see! Thank you for sharing this beautiful moment. Please keep up your good work, and I will help with donations when I can.
@TheLeilisa Not aware of any evidence or research in elephants that supports this. The elephants at the Sanctuary mostly wade and float in the water--many of the ponds they prefer to use are shallow enough to stand in. Tarra is the only elephant we have witnessed who has actually gone "swimming" in some of the deeper areas of the lake.
I wonder why it took so long for them to enjoy the pool? If I am reading this right a year before they went in the water? I absolutely love all these videos and God Bless you for doing this
Maybe Misty wanted to try out the "Side Stroke," that's why she lay down on her side submerged in the water. Dulary surely enjoyed splashing & blowing the water with her trunk!! However, this pond is too shallow & the water is too muddy to give any buoyancy for the heavy elephants to float/move any distance!!! Meanwhile, they both had lots of fun splashing & soaking in the mineral rich muddy water !!! Perhaps this liquid clay in the pond offers therapeutic value for their skin & relax them !!!
-It may also be simple physics; standing waist high in water, i am 50% my body weight. But in shoulder high water, i am only 20% - i am disabled, so the sense of freedom is pronounced between the 50-20%. I bet laying in that water like that felt so restful and easy!
God, I just love seeing them just be elephants!!!! Thank you Carol and Scott for doing what you do!!!!

All elephants should be this happy!
Misty laid down & was not getting up until she was good & ready. What a beautiful sight.

This is great! I love how Misty sticks her trunk up like a periscope to breathe while her head's underwater.
I love the way Misty just lays there with the tip of her trunk peeking up for air, while Dulary gets all the "good" mud!
I watch this almost every day. 2 very happy elephants. Misty is so funny laying there and sticking her trunk up for air is too precious.

Love that Misty sort of snorkeled her way around while Dulary waded and had fun. Elephant Heaven must be something like this.
Thank you, Sanctuary!
Now I've seen everything!! An elephant..ScubaDiving in a mudpond!!! Omg!
My heart breaks when I think about elephants in circuses. They all should be doing this!

Yay! Finally Dulary discovers her pond. How cool.

I adore Misty. She is such a fun loving sweet animal. I'm sure Lota is pleased she has found a friend in Dulary.
I miss you Dulary and Misty! R.I.P. my beloveds!
The chance to just be elephants! can't beat that :)
It's amazing! They are so happy and full of joy!

Only one more thing, freedom.
@freedatravel and i c she loves trying out her snorkel, she never gets up at all! they really love that pond.:)
Where is this elephant heaven? Where in Tennessee?
the reason,i suggest, for immersion in water is like a return to the womb experience
