Anything that can be done to this beautiful car is worth it to me. If I were still working and not retired, and about 20 years younger, I would want this car!

And one of the loveliest to drive. I used to own a 1972 2.8 back in the late 70s. The only problem is that they rot terribly on the body work under the car over the rear axle. Bob in the UK.

@@promerops No, don't put a Daimler grill or badge on a Jaguar. Firstly you won't have insurance because you changed the car brand and secondly, you won't have insurance because it doesn't match the spec of the car and thirdly, it won't be original!

On these, If you ever have fuel starvation issues and think it is the auto-drive....... STOP.....minute rust particles from the fuel tank are blocking the filter... It will be a mostly the fuel filter blocked, then filling again, but not looking blocked as it slowly refills the glass and keeps repeating the process... I learned the hard way back in 1973... I have worked on all Jaguars, Mrk 5s, Mrk 10s 420s 420 G Sjs right through the line, electric ignition every time on any classic Jag... Watch the carbs for blowback leaks of fuel hitting the exhaust pipe and setting fire to a beautiful restoration, yes I've had that happen too... Rear windows prone to leaking and creating holes in the rear metalwork... Make sure the throttle linkage is not prone to sticking or traping on some pipework, or you will have a runaway engine issue in traffic caused by trapped linkage!!! Yes, I have had that as well... BUT she is the best SJ and looks pretty good... Blue is the best colour, as it shows the shape and contours better... It's best to change the fuel lines out, as they rust internally and will block the carb injectors or mess the float system, place a see-through filter at the carburettors intake, I would also change out the entire brake pipes too...... Englishman out, and all the best.....

I remember as a kid in England in the 1970s this was a rich man's car, a notch above the Rovers, but below the Rolls and Bentleys, and very far above the Fords and Vauxhalls. Ah those were the days,

Could not agree more. Too much fakery, overpaid "stars" and agenda on TV these days. Plus nothing new, some old recycling since they invented the reality show. And soaps everywhere. A few documentaries are good. But can find similar on TH-cam made for a fraction of the cost. Not keen on having to pay the BBC licence fee, to be honest.

I love seeing this. I had a 1976 XJ12L with a Chevy engine conversion, which was a pretty common in these cars. It was a rusted and problematic car, but I absolutely loved it. I'm sure with a much more rigorous detail, this thing will look brand new. From the paint, to the chrome, to the leather and wood, I'm sure this would detail up spectacularly. It's in awesome shape. With some readily available auto parts store stuff, it still looks damn sharp. Like it.

P.S.+ Cleaning: You do it the hard way. Take all the seating out. Then remove the carpet. Clean cabin, put new carpet in, reinstall seating after it has been cleaned. If things aren't right, you can get very very sick inside the cars interior - especially the air ducting(heater-A/C). Every used car or truck I owned got thoruoghly disinfected.

Had one of these new in the early 70s. You had to drive with a remarkably disciplined right foot if you valued your drivers license! Cruising at 90mph was deceptively effortless. They're not Strombergs, they're Stranglebergs, as the US-spec car went from 2" SU's to 1.75" Stroms. You have to get a UK-spec manifold to do the swap, the US-spec manifold is rubbish.

Here in the UK older Jags have always had a reputation of being driven by 'rakish' character (read devil-may-care) - bankrupts and bank robbers as getaway cars. It's almost a shame to make this one concourse. Could always leave her as-is like it's been sitting outside the Old Bailey for a few months while its own is 'detained' at Her Majesty's pleasure.

Please remove the dreadful aftermarket leather cover on the steering wheel and replace the chrome surround on the front screen rubber
