I visited Walsrode in 1977 with my wife and children when I was serving with the British Army Of The Rhine. The star of the show for me was the Shoebill - absolutely amazing. Thank you for the video.

I visited the Vogelpark in Walsrode once with my family when I was a child and got the chance to hold one of the Terathopius ecaudatus during a bird show. That video brought up some great memories!

Did you take down all the older videos? They were great. Your green mamba video was the best one on TH-cam. I referenced your old videos a lot and I hope you make them available again.

You know I was thinking if a reptile enclosure could be modified into a small tropical aviary? for example, if you took a euro style terrarium (like + 1x1 m) and covered all the sides with a background and replaced the glass doors with others made of metal mesh (to prevent the birds from hitting them), you could use a deep substrate bioactive with a great diversity of cleaners (isopods, millipedes, tropical cockroaches) to help clean and also supplement the birds' diet, the uppermost part of the substrate could be made removable to facilitate cleaning (since the birds they dirtier MUCH more than reptiles) but at the same time that communicates with the underlying layer where all the microfauna resides, I would decorate with branches and tubes of cork bark (to provide a refuge for the nests) and lots of tropical plants and mosses that are not toxic to animals.
However, only very small species could be included that can do well even with a lot of humidity, birds such as Chinese blue quails would spend their time foraging in the ground while finches and small parrots would stay at the highest levels, I think buy a rescue could also be taken how mistreated these animals are around it would be nice to give them a second chance in a vivarium which compared to a normal cage could give many more possibilities for enrichment.

I have seen this method used with more then reptiles. For instance mammels like monkeys and squirrels. Some birds.. but then substrates are deep (1M+) and birds will create a lot of waste and feast on all the microfauna. So I would imagine you need a low population density VS a very big enclosure.
