There’s so many things Subaru “should” have done to this car. However, if they polished it from factory that would leave us with not many fun little (and sometimes fairly inexpensive) mods to do. I personally loved installing stiffer bushings, better tranny/pitch mounts, and all the other odds and ends. It gave me experience working on cars and a good mod always puts a smile on my face after it’s completed. :)
Just got this yesterday from you guys... install was straight forward about 20mins. It arrived configured with 4 washers... car stalls and feels significantly sluggish...bone stock 2017 wrx. Going to try 5-6 washers...
Added five 5 washers its still hunting at idle, car would randomly stall when in neutral and still a significant loss of power under boost.... I re-installed with all washers that came with the kit (6 total)... car no longer stalls when shifting into neutral or clutching -in .... but still feels sluggish :( the overall sound is very very faint when lifting off throttle, there is also a slight gurgle and popping when lifting from throttle (which I can probably guess is fuel rich condition when bypass is venting) ill hook up a data logger later to see what is happening. ** overall I cannot recommend this product for completely stock 2015+ wrx’s as this video suggests. You will have a significant loss in performance and a rich running vehicle, even with all the washers in the kit installed, the valve it self is robust and seems well built but i feel this modification is for folks running higher psi’s and upgraded turbo systems.
2 month update..... there was a significant loss in power....ended up with 6 washers installed to just prevent stalling. Car gurgle and backfired slightly when lifting off throttle. Data logs on Afm also read super rich. DYnamic advance was effected and knock has been seeing -4 ish...non A/c system related. I have decided this was bad product and have removed it.... the out let pipe connecting the valve to the turbo unscrewed.... it isnt even a machined part.... its threaded with A cheap o-ring “to seal” the pipe with the valve body. Save your money folks this will be a disappointment and will do more damage to your vehicle with long term use. Dont get me wrong the sound is wonderful but the cons outweigh the good.
Thank you guys for the clarification. Really what I was looking for. My 15 forester xt has the same problem as well after 4 washers. I removed it and put the old one back on . Will probably put back if I get a accessport.
Overall consensus. This is a glorified noise maker. Same issues with car stalling with 4 washers... Put 6 washers like hachi roku suggested to stop it from stalling.. I had my car custom tuned locally when I went stage 2 (Accessport, big sf intake & downpipe) they did test pulls with the stock and then with this bov and noticed It caused significant losses, the lag was caused by the psi drop from venting to atmosphere 13hp loss. They recommended i utilize the stock or another aftermarket recirculating valve thats fully closed. I wish I would have read this before purchasing.....
I’m new also lol, but everyone has different says. Some say you do or it won’t be doing anything productive besides making sound and others say you don’t because it doesn’t make much of a difference regardless. That’s what I’ve read but idk tbh
Hello I got the same one but I do not know whether or not it is 50/50 or full. I don't think my mechanic did anything to it. We just installed it. I was going hard on my Sti about 2 weeks ago and a check engine light came on, but it went away after driving like a normal person lol. Should I be worried?
Hi SubiSpeed! I couldn't understand the last part where you use the additional hose and the "T" connector. On the connector, one connection goes to the new hose, the other to the existing hose, but what happens to the 3rd port of the connector? Do you leave it open? Do you connect it to another hose? I couldn't see it on the video. Thanks.
Why does everybody say that the full vent to atmosphere is bad? Is it really that bad? I have the HKS SSQV and its fully vented on my 2012 sti hatch and im on a stage 2 AP tune and i dont see any downsides to it. Although, I could make it recirc if i wanted to
Hello Subiespeed, last week I installed this bov that I purchased from you on my stock 2017 WRX. I installed it the way it came in the box. My car now feels like it is not pulling in the lower rpm range like it used to under normal driving and it won't boost over 10lbs at wide open throttle. Can you please help? Thanks in advance.
Hey guys. Purchased this recently for my 2015 WRX. Currently I have the COBB Stage 1 + BIG SF Intake tune so peak boost is usually around 16 - 18. How many washers should I use? 4 or 5?
so just to clarify this particular BOV does not cause any damage to turbo or cause car to run lean?. Because I was told all aftermarket BOVs were not good for 15+ WRXs. Just wanted to know honest answer before I go ahead and purchase one. Thanks
Hey i know u answered this question already about installing a bov with a complete stock you said their would be any problems do you happen to know how the mpg is effected for example i use mine to commute and my average is about 34 mpg and on long trips i can get up to 50 so i would like to keep it there with some what more of performance and i do love the sound. My concern was brought to me when a coworker told me he hadnt upgraded his bov on his evo due to having the stock turbo and he was told not to combine a stock turbo with a after market bov.
Just installed mine yesterday, currently running Cobb stage 1 93oct with a nameless Catback muffler delete. I was told my car is over boosting how many washers should I add?
Just installed this. Mine flutters when I let off the throttle at low boost (read: less than 5 psi), but had normal blow off under high boost(read:6 to 19 psi). Is this normal? Can hybrid blow off valves cause compressor surge with low boost?
I got the same one on my 2017 wrx but sensor got in the way but could be worked around..have no issues with stalling and idling or no boost drops.but over good bov for that sound when u want and when u don't
my friend wants to install a bov on his 2016 wrx but he doesn't want that one beat sound he wants the tumbling sound from and hks sqv racing bov. im guessing he is gonna need to buy a full intake system because i see no way possible for him to fit that in that tight area.
Bought this bob and installed it with out adding any washers. I have nameless axle back delete exhaust, no other mods. Do I have to go back in the bov and make sure it has 4 washers? I installed it how it came from the box when I opened it.
Definitely want to get this but wondering if I should get the Hybrid BOV first or the mishimoto intake?.. and I know everyone asks if there is a tune needed but just want to double make sure on that lol..
So I installed the blow back valve took it for a drive sounds great but my car keeps shutting off after i take up to 4000 rpms no check engine light came on if anyone no what’s going on plz hit me up thank you
Hi, SubiSpeed. What are the cons if any of installing one of these? Will the car lose power? I love the sound and want to install one on my stock 2015 wrx I just bought but I don't want to lose any power. Are there any prerequisite modifications, so to speak or can I just install one?
No Cons at all. There is no power loss, there is no check engine light, there are zero negative issues. It actually helps build boost a bit quicker as it closes faster after shifts. :)
How come you guys didn't go with the GFB TMS BOV so you could adjust how much you want to vent, I got that bov for my wrx and I love the fact I can put it to 100% recirculating or if you want to make it 100% vent every once in a while you can or in between, I ran my wrx on 100% venting with no tune for a little while and it runs like it did off the stock bypass valve but with sound, I have it to 50/50 now though and it's still nice but nothing like 100% venting.
The GFB unit is very hard to get right now. We have some headed in but we try and make videos for items which are easily accessible. The GFB unit there is 10 in the USA right now and headed our way. Besides the TubroXS is simple, cheap, and gets the job done for most people. It keeps things safe and simple on the stock tune. The GFB unit requires a bit more knowledge to put on a car with no tune and keep stock like drive-ability.
So, just ordered this and am wondering is it ready to go right out of the box or do i need to adjust washers? Thank you! New to the subie seen and just want to make some noise,
several people have asked already with no response so I'm going to give it another shot...I have a 2014 Forester XT, will this mod work the same on my car?? i dont see why not...same engine, same turbo.
You may want to check how many washers are installed in the bov and adjust if necessary. It is possible because when the air is released the car runs rich for a split second but check the washers and see if that alleviates it.
By itself on a stock car or one with mild bolt ons, you should not need a tune or run into issues. Worst case with these is you run a slightly rich during shifts.
Was thinking about this cause I'd like some sound outta my 2016 wrx after the work and pro tune my tuner told me not to go with aftermarket as the cars need to have that air recirculating back into the car to avoid cel. What your guys opinion. Do I need a retune after this or???
SubiSpeed I have been thinking about it since watching ur videos. There's a lot of stuff I wana get but my runner suggested not to do a lot of stuff I wana get since I don't really track the car yet.
Had this valve installed on 2015 WRX. In low rpm with hardly any acceleration, boost guage ramps up extremely quick (up to 23 Psi) but does not deliver any power.. Even high rpm, boost ramps up but is not pulling the car like it did with the stock BPV. Also getting a lot of flutter. Any suggestions would be great? Been in for less than a week and considering removing. Cheers.
SubiSpeed The car has an Invidia catted downpipe, an axle back and a mishimoto performance intake + tune. I currently have 4 washers in the BOV. If the bov is making the turbo flutter, wouldn't I remove washers if there is flutter? Could this be a boost leak? The first 2 days of driving, the bov did not seem to have any boost/power issues. Thank you for your reply!
You are running more boost than stock. You will want the BOV spring to have more pressure to hold that boost. I think what you are hearing is the BOV opening pre-maturely because there is not enough pressure keeping it closed.
Don't have any CEL and doesn't stall, I've heard of this issue as well that's why I was skeptical, luckily TURBOXS is local so I went to them to see their setups and recommendations. Been running the RFL for a couple weeks, other then running rich on throttle release don't have any issues. One thing though that TURBO XS doesn't tell you is to run 8 washers on the BOV maybe the guy with the issue isn't using that many?
Mine works fine but in neutral if I rev up to 4K when the rpm drops it doesn't catch at idle and just drops to 0 and car shuts off I currently have 9 washers. Any ideas?

Hey subi speed, can you make a video on how to tune the RFL BOV type XS 100% atmosphere vent so I don't get any check engine lights? Also if there's anything else I need to buy besides the BOV itself!
I need some help. I have the turboXS hybrid bov and I've also installed a mishimoto charge pipe. So the problem I'm having is that my bov is only making the ppsssssshh sound at low psi (5 or lower). When it goes pass 5psi all I hear is air being blown out of the bov. Do you think I need to add more washers to my bov or is there something else that I'm not doing right? Does anyone know?
+Linh Do How many washers do you currently have in there? We are running 4 washers with the chargepipe & intercooler installed without any issues. If that's the case, you may need to add more washers.
The wrx should sound like this from the factory

Hey subispeed I'm just curious if this is compatible with my cvt transmission ? I've been curious and I'm debating purchasing one
Eric Kautz I think the only difference between the 6 and cvt is the transmission so the turbo layout should be unaffected.
Eric Kautz dont get CVT. please dont get CVT

Ok, fair enough please update if you ever do.
Jeremy Morgan I installed it last night on my 2016 forester xt. Went smoothly and was exactly the same as this video.
Sweet!! I'll have to do it then. I have AEM cold air intake, Invidia down-pipe, and Invidia N1 exhaust. With Cobb Ap of course 😈
Would it be a problem installing this blow out valve when I have a moshimoto intake without tune?
I don't get it. I have a 2020 STI and the BPV is up top near the engine. Is this for the older model?
I have 2020 wrx sti as well. Ours is up and wrx are down.
Is it normal to back fire a lot because my car has been back firing a bunch since I installed my bov (it's the same one as the video)
You may want to check how many washers are installed in the bov and adjust if necessary. It is possible because when the air is released the car runs rich for a split second but check the washers and see if that alleviates it.
If you get a check engine light on because of it, should I bring my car to the dealership? The light went away after 10-15 minutes of driving
TrumpTards if the light went away , then no need !

Hello SubiSpeed, I am considering to get this bpv and wonder how does the car run so far without a tune? Is there any problem?
No issues with it and been running it on the car for over a month :)
Cheers.
Is the car stock? I would suggest adding a couple more washers. In the video, our car was stock and running 4 washers.
SubiSpeed
The car has an Invidia catted downpipe, an axle back and a mishimoto performance intake + tune.
SubiSpeed
I will add 1 or 2 washers this evening and let you know how I go.
Cheers again =)
So, I added 2 washers (6 total) and the power seems to be better.. however, the valve now sounds like a HKS SSQV. Lol. Hmmm =/
This will be fine to put on an sti, correct?
@subiespeed i installed the bov why i cant hear it please advise i used 4 washers n now i have none in place i can bearly hear it
Im not to sure how many washers I should use. Did you ever find this out?
Do you get the blow off noise from the recirc bypass as well?
Hey guys do you know how this sounds with the mishimoto intake? Is it louder? I know the stock is loud as shit now with the mishimoto intake.
Maybe im just completely missing it.. but i just took mine out of the package and i see 2 washers. I thought there were supposed to be more?
How many were installed in the BOV itself? Maybe they installed them instead from the MFG?
does the car need to be tuned after installing this? or all its just plug and play? Im a new wrx owner.
Plug'n'play

Did you tune it after install or no tune at all?
was this originally a premium model?
I just bought a Wrx 2016. Is this the same and if I would to do this would it void my warranty?
+jjm1991100 It is the same, but if you're worried about voiding your warranty we would suggest not modifying your car.
just ordered this and would like to know how many washers should I put in since I have the nameless axleback deletes? thanks
start with 4
Could I install this with out having a after market exhaust, would I need to tune the car, and would it affect my mpg
Yes, yes, no. You're better off spending 300 on an intake because you can hear the stock bov much louder with the intake. Stock bov/bpv is fine
This blow off value is towards the top of my list of things to add to my car. Just waiting on the dealer to deliver it.
Why not go with the full atmospheric? Just wondering. I ended up getting that one but just wanted to know your decision
it's not a good idea to run a full 100% VTA on a car with a MAF system. You can run rich each time the BOV vents and have erratic idling.
AzuluzA how are you logging how you're car is running? an Accessport?
No log, definitely dont want to get the AP until a full tune system is avail and TURBOXS did some trials.
As stated in the video, it is just a best of both worlds preference for us. Also, we did not want to tune for the full vent to atmosphere.f
@subiespeed does the 50/50 hybrid require a tune on the 2015 STI?
Can I run the hybrid version of the BOV if I am running only accessport and intake without running into issues?
***** Yes you shouldn't have any issues
For this video does the car have any other mod beside the bov?
Mine works fine but in neutral if I rev up to 4K when the rpm drops it doesn't catch at idle and just drops to 0 and car shuts off I currently have 9 washers. Any ideas?
Bro Ik your comment is 5 years old but my car just started to do that. How did you fix it?

Hey subi speed, can you make a video on how to tune the RFL BOV type XS 100% atmosphere vent so I don't get any check engine lights? Also if there's anything else I need to buy besides the BOV itself!
You cannot with that BOV. You need a Hybrid or a Full Re circulation BOV.
There is a sensor connected to my BOV do I disconnect that?
i just recived my turboxs hybrid bov. i have a 2016 wrx. its all stock do i need to use any washers? please reply subiespeed
+Edgar Moreno Start with 4 washers.

After 3 years, how is it now?
Just bought this.. How many washers are recommended for use?
Haven't tried to install this just yet, but how do you add washers to bov? Neither this vid nor the included instructions provides explanation
Hey I installed this, every time I go on boost and back to neutral my car stalls, do I need more washers? I have 4 rn
Fishbirdd did u fix the problem? And how?
will i be able to run the cobb stage 2 map with just a turboback and a hybrid blow off valve with no issues? @subispeed
+Mark Hoogendoorn You should not have any issues with that setup.
Is it a good idea to install this bov on the wrx cvt? Thanks
Do i require a tune with this hybrid bov and a cobb intake that i already have install on my wrx 2016?
The BOV does not require a tune, but the intake should.
i just installed it with no washers.. is it going to be okay?
how did it turn out?
how many washers did you use? i wanna know how many to put on stock 2015 wrx
4 washers used which is what is recommended for stock WRX :)
I have a 2015 wrx also I've been looking for a turbo but I can't find one where did u find your turbo
What?
RetiefGoosen lol
when you add washers does it allow more air out or does it recirculate
Did you ever find this answer out?
I need some help. I have the turboXS hybrid bov and I've also installed a mishimoto charge pipe. So the problem I'm having is that my bov is only making the ppsssssshh sound at low psi (5 or lower). When it goes pass 5psi all I hear is air being blown out of the bov. Do you think I need to add more washers to my bov or is there something else that I'm not doing right? Does anyone know?
+Linh Do How many washers do you currently have in there? We are running 4 washers with the chargepipe & intercooler installed without any issues. If that's the case, you may need to add more washers.
There's 4 washers in there. I'll add more and see what happen.
Where to get those. And what's price.
Hello there, SubiSpeed! Do you guys know if it would be okay to use this BOV on the 14'-15' Forester XT's FA20DIT?
John Slonaker yes, I installed it yesterday on my 2016. Exact same as this video.
Fantastic video. keep up the great work!
I did it from the top because I don't have a lift, and it deff requires a bit more work
I installed this on my 2017 WRX. it is a slightly different install as there is a new sensor.
+Capt working around it a little tight
+Capt just have to leave it connected and take the whole coupler off
did you have to tune after install
Do you need a tune for the 50/50 Hybrid? SubiSpeed
No tune required :)
Does it need a tune with accessport
Hi will this bov be fitted on 2014 forester xt?
What do you recommend for a 2018 Subaru wrx base?
Cobb bpv
Will this be compatible with 2019 wrx?
yes i need to know but they dont look at comments
hi how install hks bov in my wrx 2015 ? thanks
wont bovs make my wrx run leaner?
how? If your dumping air that means more fuel.
Tyler France no you will run a tad rich if anything but just between shifts
How many washers did you use inside the bov?
We are running 4 washers. This is the amount of washers that installed in the BOV out of the box.
Does this work with the 2016 WRX CVT ? (auto)
HAHA
Subaru Brah you’re not wrong
