    Knitting sleeves on my Chiaogoo mini set ( the 2" and 3" needles) has changed my life! Knitting sleeves is now my favorite part of making a sweater.

    I recently discovered this channel and have been binging on the older videos. My favorite part about this one was the philosophical question about whether a planned aftertought heel should be called a foretought heel instead (I think it should). That type of interesting questioning is why I keep coming back :)

    Watching my second of your podcasts. You know how to keep us interested. It’s like we’re having a conversation. Love it. I’m a native Virginian. Moved back to where I grew up in southern VA almost to NC after leaving the Shenandoah Valley where I lived about forty years. I am enjoying listening to you and hearing your experiences. @@tangerineknits I get it. I’m working on finding some knitting friends here. I bought yarn to make a beautiful little scarf for my oldest daughter in Portland, OR. I had an appointment in Greensboro so my sister and I went to two yarn shops. Lots of fun.

    I enjoyed your recap today. Re: 9 inch circular sock needles….I am trying them for the very first time on a self stripping sock yarn that was a Christmas Eve cast on and there is a learning curve. I’m making vanilla socks by the Crazy Sock Lady and she has a very good video for vanilla socks with a 9 inch circular. She says more than once…be gentle with the needles, don’t grip them too tightly and the first couple rounds of the ribbing is rather slow because you need to adjust stitches frequently. But once you start rolling along I like them. I bought two sets of 9 inch circulars so I can simultaneously knit two socks to avoid second sock syndrome! I learned how to knit socks on DPN, so this is a new journey. Happy knitting.

    • @tangerineknits
      @tangerineknits  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello and thank you! That's great to know that the 9 inch circulars get smoother once you start rolling along, I'll have to check out that video, I could use the reminder/encouragement haha. That's smart to work on two DIFFERENT socks at once!! Happy knitting to you as well :)

    Happy New Year! Great to see you again. It seems you are on fire, knitting two stranded colourwork projects at once. Your sweater is gorgeous and the socks, are really cute, well done! I started knitting colour work a couple of years ago, and have not yet done three colours at once. I am currently working on the Folly skirt, by Stephanie Earp. Seeing a colour work knit come to life on your needles is very addictive. I love that you integrated a bit of your Chinese heritage in this episode and hope you will do that more in the future.

      Hello and thank you so much!! Haha, at first I really struggled with my practice colorwork swatches but then was surprised at how fun it was after I get the hang of it! Three stranded was a bit of a struggle for me, but I did it for the sheep haha 🐑 - that pattern is so darn cute. I just looked up the Folly Skirt, holy cow, the colors look incredible! Happy knitting and I'm sure that will be an amazing knit!!

    I have small circular needles that I use to knit the sleeves on my sweater projects. I use standard circular needles before and I think the small ones are way more practical to manage ! I bought some 2.5 mm to try knitting socks, but as I am more of a "one project at a time" kind of person I am waiting for my sweater to be finished ☺️ I really appreciate your videos ! Can't wait for the next ones ♥️

    Hi Yiqi, LOVE your ovis socks!!!! The sheep across the top are the bomb, so adorable. I haven't tried colorworks knitting yet but I am going to get the ovis pattern because when I'm ready to try it this is the one that I know I would like to learn on. I recently finished my 1st set of socks and they turned out cute. Now knitting the next pair. Don't ever not want to have socks on the needle because they are so fun! I knit English style and would probably have the same type of problems you did if I tried to switch to continental knitting. I'm so uncoordinated!!!!!! Your projects are wonderful and I enjoy hearing about your experiences knitting them. Look forward to your next vlogcast!!!! Cheers, Carrie🐑

    Your Ingrid sweater is gorgeous! Personally, I enjoy 9 inch circulars for socks. Doing ribbed cuffs usually causes a bit of pain/strain in my hands, but the rest of the sock is smooth sailing! I think my hands are kind of small, so maybe that contributes to the ease of working with them, but I think they’re the least fiddly for sock making!

    • @tangerineknits
      @tangerineknits  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aw thank you! Ooh ok, maybe I can try the 9 inch circulars on the stockinette portion first instead of the cuff until I get better at it!

    I agree with@tjtj5732! I use either 9” circulars or 2 circular methods for small circumferences and find that the trick is not gripping them so tightly. Just think of them as delicate and “dainty”, and it may make them easier! Love your projects and podcasts! Keep up the good work! ❤️

    • @tangerineknits

    I love knitting sleeves on small circumference needles and have amassed a few sizes in 12" circulars. I found that the 9" circs were way to small for me to handle but the 12" circulars were perfect!

      @tangerineknits  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ooh good to know, thanks for sharing! Maybe I'll need to give the 12" a try regardless of how the 9" experiment goes for me haha

    I wasn’t sure about the 9’ circulars when I first tried them either but I find them so valuable now. It just takes a bit to find a comfortable hand position and get into a rhythm with them. I hate knitting magic loop now because it’s so disruptive to the flow of knitting when you have to turn. However I think heels can be easier on magic loop because you have all the heel stitches on one needle. Another way you can do three colour stranded knitting is to hold one of the strands on your index finger. I’ve seen people doing that quite efficiently. I just hold all three on one finger and have gotten used to doing it that way but it took a while to get used to it. One tip I heard about tensioning yarn that really helped me is to let the unused yarn flow at the rate it wants to naturally as you knit with the other strand(s), you know how it gets a bit slack, then knit it when you get up to it without pulling it tighter at all.

    • @tangerineknits
      @tangerineknits  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's super encouraging! I tried the 9 inch circulars a second time and experienced some hand cramping but your comment is motivating me to give it another try! The idea of not having to move the stitches al the time (unlike magic loop) is definitely super appealing.
      And thanks for your tip for the 3-stranded colorwork! I've since worked on the second ovis sock and did find that the 3-color section went a bit smoother now that it's my second time working on it (I was still putting all 3 strands on one finger). I was still pretty slow (compared to the 2-stranded colorwork) due to managing all 3 strands and the tension, so I'll try to focus on making the unused strand flow naturally and see if that gets a bit smoother! Thanks so much for your suggestions!!

    You and I have similar knitting processes, so it feels like I’m chatting with a friend to hear you talk about your projects 😊 I’m not afraid to rip out a project to re knit it and make it what I want, and I prefer to be a monogamous knitter. The excitement of each project just keeps me riding high til it’s done! And then I get excited about the next project waiting in the wings. Love your Ingrid! I’m about 3/4 of the way through mine and so excited to cast of and wear it. I hope you enjoy wearing your Ingrid this winter and maybe you can fix the sleeve, if you really want to, during the summer.

    Hi, I also have 9 inch needles and always use it for cuffs , yes , it was difficult in the beginning but is much better now. Try holding needles loosely .For sleeves I just started using 12 inch needles and i LOVE it .I do not like magic loop and this is a game changer for me 🙂

      @tangerineknits  ปีที่แล้ว

    Gung Hay Fat Choy. I like the reds you have worked with and are working with. I always admire that red in some yarns but hesitate to buy that color because I don't know if I'll make use of it. Yay for getting into colorwork; I'm glad you found a method that works for you. I have done two-handed knitting for that and now use a Norwegian Knitting Thimble which holds the two colors apart and I can still knit Continental style. That colorwork yoke is gorgeous. If you have tips for knitting on 9" circulars Continental style then pls share. That length, even a 12" length, is difficult for me since the needles are so small. I know one knitter who knits like a pro on those for socks but she knits English style which I think is easier and works better for such small circulars. Good to see you again. Take care.

    • @tangerineknits
      @tangerineknits  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Stefanie! Oops sorry for the delayed response, I just realized I missed this comment! But thank you!!! Different shades of red can be a toss up for me too, I've gotten to see these specific reds in person so that was super helpful! I'm still trying to finagle a 9" circular comfortably, so it's a work in progress but I'll keep y'all posted if I figure out anything that makes it gets easier for me haha! I'm still a magic loop girl for now! Thank you and hope you take care too!

    Hey, I keep hand cutouts of my family's hands for sock measurements... Nothing wrong with a foot cutout. I would highly recommend reading Knitting Rules by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee (the Yarn Harlot). Ever since I took her Grok the Sock class, I haven't needed to measure or use a pattern for socks.
    I haven't been able to use the 9" needles because I tend to stabilize my needles with my pinkies and ring fingers. Those aren't long enough in the actual needle portion. For people who can hold and stabilize their needles with their forefingers find them easier. I can't do that. My joints aren't stable enough.

    • @tangerineknits
      @tangerineknits  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh thank you for the recommendation on Knitting Rules - I'll have to check it out! I didn't know that hand measurements can work for sock measurements, that sounds like such a neat trick!

    I love your podcast ! I am knitting the Ingrid Sweater as we speak and love it, but I think I may have misunderstood a chart. When she says to knit, for example, rows 19 and 20 a total of 12 times, does she mean 12 total? Or does she mean to knit each row 12 times for a total of 24? I have looked everywhere for this answer and here you are wearing your FO ❤

    • @tangerineknits
      @tangerineknits  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! Thank you for watching! I interpreted that as: (knit row 19, knit row 20), (knit row 19, knit row 20).... and do this for a total of 12 times, i.e. 24 rows. This is the ribbing section below the cross sections so based on the pictures you can kind of see how long that ribbed section should be! Hope this helps!
