One of the best. The voice actor got his mannerisms and dry wit. Ron Pearlman and his voice work for the animated shorts were great. Wish somebody paid him to do audio comics.

Honestly, I'd rather have a director's vision, like Del Toro's. If I want Mignola's vision, I'll just, you know.... read the comics. Del Toro's movies may not be comic accurate, but they are solid films. He did something of his own with the character, and I like that a lot. It feels like the new movie is gonna be closer to the comics, but it also feels like the quality is going to be worse in general. To be fair, it is just the trailer, and maybe the final product will be better.

Also hellboys personality is a bit off since he comes off like a teenager when he had been around since ww2 and the movies take place in the early 2000s so he should be a lot more mature. you basically thought that way yourself and convinced yourself it was weird cause prolly cause you are weird and think about that stuff
nonetheless that exactly why it was changed cause the dynamic of a child being centered around demons and all this paranormal crap would've been harder to convince non Hellboy audiences.
once again just because someone read the comics doesn't mean it has to adapt to the comics.
its a great way to GET people to READ the comics because if the movie appeals to them in such a matter they can see it for themselves how different and awesome the source material itself is.
ever heard of the statement "Read the book cause its better"?
Most cases it is and quite true.. my best example is berserk.
Nothing has been properly adapted and may never will but we gotta accept that they have to find some middle ground to push people to understand the complex dark fucked up story that it is without just pushing it out and getting massively polarized by being as fucked up as it is.
Marketing was done wrong for this new Hellboy trailer absolutely and the music choice is dreadful.
hopefully they fix this and stick to the creators vision but so far even then this lower budget movie still comes off as another GB 2016 or Suicide Squad.

Sadly, I don't think you will get a more faithful adaptation from the rebooted Hellboy despite the apparent nod from Mike Mignola. Just to add though, Ron Perlman and Gillermo del Toro have been lobbying for Hellboy 3 since the release of the Golden Army. But the plot was entirely GDT' s and even more deviated from the comic book. I saw a recent Perlman interview and he seemed unenthusiastic about the new Hellboy.

We all love a funny dance tune once in awhile, but when the Art Direction is supposed to be a specific way...it was supposed to be a mix of recent Tv shows and movies these past years.... Evil Dead, Drag Me To Hell, Game of Thrones, Kong Skull Island, Hellboy 1, John Wick instead we get this travesty. A total ignoramus of what Hellboy was supposed to achieve on film..... It was supposed to be Game of Thrones meets ACDC meets Hellboy... Something that Guillermo DelToro could of handled correctly. Possible Hellboy 2 Sequel (Plague of Frogs, Hell On Earth, Hellboy in Hell) Only a story that Guillermo DelToro team can bring to life... Ron Perlman can be cast as Astaroth.... Doug Jones and Selma Blair must return as Abe Sapien and Liz Sherman.... Hellboy must smoke cigarette and drink beer.... Introduce secondary characters Ashley Strode, Roger, Johann...

Roger and Johann can be played by Nathan Jones and Seth MacFarlane...
Ted Howard's can be played by either Tom Hardy or Ed Skrein... I highly suggest Ed since his role as Ben Daimio was taken away...

One thing that ALWAYS annoyed me with cinema is how they think, just because something lives for 10.000 years, it has to be a teenager for AT LEAST 100 years.
If you have lived 100 years, you had 16 years to grow up, maybe SOME years more because your society is slower and your rebellion phase is a little longer, but you had PLENTY of time to get beaten up for your rushy-pushy side, you had time to get punshed in the face for being sassy to elders and you had time to experience loss and develop restraint.
If you are 100 years old, you have lived MORE THAN THE ENTIRE LIFESPAN OF A NORMAL HUMAN. That means, even if you don't have the ATTITUDE of an old man who is humbled by the loss of half of his abillities, you still had the time to accumulate the same WISDOM. You are not foolish anymore. You have made mistakes. Plenty of them.
Now many of those things vary by culture. And elf might have had more training in diverse things, but less experience so, because he was never allowed to leave his village. A different species, like demons, might have a lot more experience in fighting than a normal human, but hasn't accumulated any wealth in knowledge or material posessions due to the nature of hell. AND SO ON. But that doesn't mean they act like they have seen emotions for the first time ever...

Because there is public perception of character, i.e. if it's ain't Batman, or Punisher he *MUST* be telling jokes every other minute
And there is actual comics version.
Good luck with adapting Superman or Batman the way Siegel&Shuster or Kane&Finger meant them to be HAHAHAHAHA

I want to be excited for the new movie. There's many reasons to be excited. From what I can see we get to see Hellboy approach the sword in the stone which sides with the comics of Hellboy being the descendant of King Arthur. We also get to see clips of Hellboy being part of "the hunt" and his battle with trolls which was part of Hellboy's adventure to finding out who he truly is... as it was in the books. But I'm totally taken back by the greasy long hair and the horrible comic timing of him getting shot at as he's exiting a vehicle. I totally want the new movie to be fantastic but I'm severely nervous. I just keep telling myself..."at least Hellboy isn't going to be a father."

It was actually the darker more horror-ish tone one of the original trailers had that drew me into watching the movies, and now having read the first few stories in the Hellboy Omnibus Volume 1, I can definitely see the missteps the films made in terms of adaptation. As a long time fan from a time before Del Toro I can't help but agree. I also agree they are good movies, except the weird relationship with Liz and that useless agent Meyer side story which end up taking up half the flick I really like the first one, and the second too, because even if it doesn't follow canon you can always see were Del Toro got his inspiration from and its clear that he read every available story up to 2003, case in point Samael is clearly the cinematic version of the Frog men, he even reproduce as fast as those damn frog things! Even the golden army is inspired by the golden army, and even thou the original was formed by all kind of creatures it is again easy to pin point his source material. Now, I know that when you published this the reboot had yet to come out, but man, that really sucked big time, a huge clusterfuck of what should have been a straight forward story since it want to be the comics so much, but no, let's reinvent every single character and throw them in the story at random...and that Right Hand of Doom...it is square! Can't even comment on that.

I feel the same way about the Dark Knight trilogy. People always think I hate the movies, when I don't. I just don't look at them as particularly good representations of Batman. My main gripe is at the end of the day, Batman is a comic character and I expect comic things in them. This felt too real to the point where Batman didn't make sense in the setting of Nolan's "real life" atmosphere, it just feels off. I don't want real life when I watch these things, I want comic themes and archetypes of said characters. He should have just made a crime drama trilogy without Batman and his villains and it would have been more believable in a "real world" setting. All in all, great films though.
