It's not a lack of passion or ambition. More an issue of depth at club level. Many of the boks players are playing internationally. And a lot of the guys just below bok level are playing internationally. This leaves us with inadequate depth to play rugby 12 months of the year at club level. We will get there but not yet.
I think there are 2 big factors causes these results - travel, and inexperience. The travel impact of SA team are still having a huge impact, which will become a lot more manageable in the next few year. They're currently flying 24 hr flights, in economy. Once those restrictions stop, more senior players will travel for those away games, providing a much higher skills level, but importantly, more leadership at these matches. Because let's face it, without key personal, the Bulls, Sharks, and Stormers have appeared mindless.
24/7 we must listen to Supersport and it's commentators on the vast depth of Western Province rugby with their schools and clubs. Then why didn't they even feature very high in the Currie Cup competition?
Interesting conversation, thanks. So you guys almost figured out how to solve our club depth issues but stopped short. The issue is depth of coaching not depth of players. Because of a year round rugby season we need 60 players at each of the top 4 clubs who are capable of test rugby. Then we need to rotate them so each player gets their 2 months off. Considering we have 1000 professional players 240 test level players should be attainable. But it will require a lot of skills development. Truth be told our coaches are not the best in building skills because we are spoilt for choice. Irish coaches are forced to develop weaker players and that coaching skill is what we need to buy in at scale. Those coaches need to be funded to support 2nd tier clubs , so we raise the baseline of skills across our professional pool. That will also allow our clubs to afford the players because the local pool will be big enough. Maybe have seperate core squads for currie cup, urc and investec cups. That gives you cohesion, rotation and depth development. Nick was talking about the poor skills and that's exactly what's going wrong. Our major clubs are attempting to play new bock rugby but they haven't done the foundation work the boks did in honing foundation skills. That's causing our teams to focus on execution instead of being able to focus on heads up tacticaly flexible rugby with execution as a given.
I disagree, there are only 4 or 5 teams with a realistic shot at winning the ICC the rest are just trying to cope with their regional comp. Of the SA teams the Sharks have an outside shot at best, even then your semi is away regardless. It's a very tough ask, for now anyway.
You're doomed -- were long ago. Barnes gifting you the last RWC title was SH rugby's swan song. As always, you rely on the kindness and money of the NH to even have teams. It would be nice of you to remember that when you spew the incredible amount of ignorant shite that 60 millions Saffas, and 5 million kiwis do all too often. Of course, shows like this don't help given you filll their heads with that same ignorant shite and not the reality of the situation.
Provocative comment lacking any merit in the substance. Southern hemisphere has won all but 1 of the world cups. You seem to think that a few years of Irish competence is a shift in the balance of power. Please keep on with these thoughts. We will see you in the quarter finals. Maybe you can get a referee to the finals.
I've got 4 great suggestions... 1) Make the Boks play an attacking attractive to watch style of rugby. 2) Make them respect Referees, and opposition teams, when they play Tests in SA. 3) Silence their ignorant crowd during the Haka. 4) Play good quality accurate renditions of the national anthems of opposing teams at Test matches
Nick is great. Awesome addition.
Nick always talks sense
It's Reassuring to know that South Africans actually do feel passionate about the Champions Cup. Let's hope they start to compete...and soon!

Interesting conversation !
I was one of the people that bought Nick's book
Was well worth the read!
the jokes on this show are the best on the internet
Is Jenkins at the sharks, is that him behind Hendrikse in the thumbnail?
Correct

PLEASE make Nick Mallett the Stormers coach... with Fleckie as assistant coach :)
You have my vote!!
Surely you need to focus on where you have greatest financial gain... so question is, what is the financial incentive of each tournament?
Good point! All SA domestic franchises had massive financial losses again this year!

SUUUUURELY there's enough damn talent in this country to do better. Like wtf.
With good referees, like in the last world cup.
No saving needed period!😊
NZ teams would win the champions cup easily. The blues would put 50 on the french 🥖🍟
They wouldn’t get past Leinster
No
Move TRC to the same timeframe as 6N, Cancel June/ July Tests .. Youre welcome

What on earth are you talking about? For every decision that goes in our favour there are also decisions which go against the Boks.
When your national team gets out of a WC quarter final we’ll start to take your comments seriously😂
The only ignorance is your ignorant comment. We can't take you drivel seriously

Hahahahahahahahaha are you trying to be stupid? Or were you just born that way?🤣🤣🤣🤣
Your suggestions are not great!! They are laughable! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Haka is barbarian war jig, hard to take seriously
