Also, it’s important to note that if a baby is excelling in one category, they are often behind in the adjacent one. For instance, if they’re ahead in large motor movements (like rolling, lifting their head) they probably aren’t focusing on small motor movements (like pushing their binki in or moving fingers individually). This is normal and okay. As long as they don’t stop progressing in each area, no reason for concern.
You probably won't see this since it's been so long, but if there's a way you could continue this series (even w/o vids of Pax), it would be SO helpful. A lot of preschool teachers I've worked with said they were surprised that some of the parents they work with aren't always aware of what kinds of ways their baby should be developing/what's normal and to be expected. A series like this would be able to help a lot of new parents out.
I wish I came across this when it first went up. It feels like time flew by so fast. My LO is 14 months and running all over the place and I’m like when did you become a little girl 👧🏽 still my baby 👶🏽🤱🏾
I really thought I was doing something wrong because my baby still can’t hold up her head real high. Iv seen videos of other babies who hold up their head pretty high.. this was just so reassuring
Hi Mama Doctor Jones! I've been following your channel for some time now, and I think I've already watched all the videos you've posted in the past 2 years or more, but I've just stumbled across this one now and found it so interesting! I tried to look at your channel to find other videos on pregnancy and baby stages, but couldn't find a playlist... Do you have more videos like this? I imagine this might not be your primary audience, but it'd be so cool to learn more about those with you... Ps. Congrats on the recent 1M!!! You totally deserve it!!
This video calm me down, thank you! There’s another video in which they said that the baby should be able to pull his head 45 degrees high and Im like all upset.
This is really fun for me because I always wanted babies but it didn't happen for me. I've never been around a baby from birth to watch one grow either. So, thanks MDJ!
My son will be 3 months old on the 20th! Sad to see there’s no 3 month or beyond videos! He’s only 2 months adjusted so I’m trying to keep that in mind when looking up the milestones
-My 2-1/2 months by boy was guffawing! But, he was just extra happy that he could laugh at all without pain since having an inguinal and hydrocele hernia prenatally and until that point had prevented much of any happiness. Before the surgeries he laughed like a c-section patient in recovery (I would know, I was one). -On the other hand, at my house (as compared to his dad's), he didn't didn't self-sooth until after his toddler years. But, he was a good manipulator with me, too. My boy's neck was strong. I wasn't expecting that he would be able to hold head up at just a few weeks old.
I am a baby, & children's photographer. The noises I'd have to make crazy noises, & jumping around trying to get smiles, & laughs. It can be hard to not feel like an idiot.
I am too. It was overwhelming me at the time - since I’m not a pediatrician it was a lot of time and stress making sure I was sharing accurate info and at the time when he was so little I kinda got overwhelmed and gave up. 😭
I'm told I wasn't tracking objects when I should have been and had significant delays in my visual development. My eyesight caught up, but my facial recognition never did. I'd missed the window where I should have developed that and I grew up with face-blindness, and also struggle to read facial expressions or follow someone else's gaze.
I learned facial expressions out of survival - I can read subtle micro aggressions that Indicates I need to back off and what not .. also can see if someone is in a good mood .. it comes at a cost though - my feelings get hurt quite a bit .. when I read the spacing out and small amounts of annoyance from people closes to me .. and I get angry when unprovoked erratic subtle anger erupts .. very few people I can't read or hide their emotions successfully .. I think you just didn't have a need for it so it's often a feature that you don't have a need to develop.. I also was bullied and didn't have many freinds so I often watch and listened to people talking to experience being part of a group . I can read people , it's just socializing is very hard due to my family thinking children should be seen and not heard and me not having alot of freinds that stick around and socialize with.
Could there be something wrong with mg 8 month old baby if she's only a little last pax? She was 2 months behind and only weighs a whopping 13lbs. I'm so worried I do all the things you suggested but It keep s me up at night knowing I could do better. Could I??? I cry myself to sleep every night. As if PPD wasn't had enough.
Weirdly enough, I could hold my head up on my own when I was newborn. My mom said this, and the doctor grabbed my arms and pulled them out, stood me up, and I just lifted my head.
My son turns 2 months this Friday :) question though- would you do a video on what is normal/not normal for mother’s postpartum? I’m still bleeding steadily with no signs of stopping and though I called my doctor’s nurse (she dismissed my concerns by telling me it’s probably my period??), I still feel like something isn’t quite right.
jennifer Sisemore the same thing happened to me and my ob did an ultrasound to make sure there wasn’t anything still in there. It turned out I was fine but I think you should insist that they check you out to make sure!
Hello Doctor, my baby is 2months and his eyes are not fully opened yet. He is still looking through slits and it's worrying me. His eyes are okay, they look okay too. Just not wide open like other babies.
I’m due August 2019 with my second.... It has been a whooping 16 years since my first... Could you maybe do a video on how you felt afterwards? Like post delivery care for mom?
We are new parents and were never told to do tummy time early. I asked her pediatrician at her 2 month app when to start she said now. Is ot too late? My baby hates it and does not do much not sure if im doing it wrong
I know this is a super old video but maybe someone will see this comment who knows and can answer. If babies start to learn to self-soothe around this time, would you also see the beginning developments of stimming behaviors from autistic infants at this point? I know it may be hard to differentiate since stimming is a self-soothing behavior, but I was curious about this. I’m trying to track my own stimming through my childhood and I’ve been surprised to find that I’ve been doing it a lot longer than I thought I had.
Hi dear .my baby’s girl is 3.5 month old and her weight is 4.5 .im very much worried about her weight but dr said that it’s normal weight .no need to be worried.
Found you because of the merch and was happy to find an evidence based TH-camr to follow. Disappointed seeing the sleep space though. Swaddling and the video camera/cord.
Swaddling is safe and encouraged during sleep until babies start to show signs of rolling - usually 3-4 months. As for the cord, I’ll give MDJ the benefit of the doubt and assume it’s on the outside of the crib rail.
I JUST stopped swaddling my son at 13 weeks because he had no indication of rolling in his sleep until this week. Now he's sleeping well without his swaddle. It just requires diligence on the part of the parent.

Is it bad if a premature baby born 34 weeks hasnt reached these milestone's
No it isn’t bad, give or take a week for you and your baby. Don’t stress. There is no set time.
You just have to remember to count their milestones from their due date, not their birth date - that's what I've heard.

It depends on when baby is starting to roll. Stop swaddling arms in when you see that baby is rolling.
