      Totally agree!
      Love that moment when you are saying
      "Variety of people, especially for us being black"
      " You're black?"
      "Yeah, I'm black. You too."
      "Wooo"
      "That's another thing we have in common"
      That is the humour I love.
      And I'm in love!

    Regarding the relationships of languages, English is basically a mix of latin and germanic languages. Swedish is a germanic language. Both latin and germanic have a common ancestor in PIE (Proto Indo-European).

    French words do not come from English but some English words are taken from the French or say German language. These languages are older than English.

    • @havtor007
      @havtor007 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You are both right and also wrong English is part of the germanic language group so is all the scandianvian languages.
      However Because of the upper class in england comming from french speaking places alot of the french was adopted in to the language.(particularlly after the norman got in to rule) English is the melting pot of languages today thanks to taking words from different languages.
      French is in the romantic language group a group that is more from latin then the germanic one is.
      So no they are not older then english however the way english is spoken today is a mix of the posh and the normal people and that is why there are so many french words in the english language today.

    • @johntate6537
      @johntate6537 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually modern French has imported quite a number of words from English. There are those who don't like it, but those words still make their way in.

    • @carlhaeggman2378
      @carlhaeggman2378 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A ton of english words are actually based on scandinavian ones.

    • @YPO6
      @YPO6 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Tate maybe some of those words are recycled and modified through English.

    • @raapyna8544
      @raapyna8544 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      YPO6 There are a lot of French city slang words too that are basically just young people mixing English in incorrectly. :P That's what the French language gurus don't like. Then there are work place terms that have come through globalization, such as "brain storming".

      Finland was a Swedish colony for 500 years before russia took it and with communism revolution in Russsia in ww1 Finland became indipendent , Finland was a dumpingground for unwanted folk's and where they recruited half their soldiers.

    • @HansenSWE
      @HansenSWE 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Finland was completely integrated in the Swedish feudal system. A person from Helsinki was no less a citizen of the kingdom than a person from Stockholm. We didn't lose a colony, we lost half our kingdom. Our brothers and sisters. All we had left by then was the Scandinavian provinces, which led to the romanticism of the old norse vikings in order to focus and celebrate on what we had left. Art and lyrics of the viking age romanticism suddenly made vikings much cooler than they really were, like sublime old-school propaganda. This romantic imagery of our past has spread throughout the entire world even to this day.
      And from this romanticism springs scandinavianism, the endeavor to unite Scandinavia into one. It fails a couple of times, but from its ashes rises the Nordic Council which exists today as a vital political instrument in the entire Nordic region.
      This is not done over the loss of a colony. This is done over the loss of family. Of Finland.

    Nice video.
    Dont worry. You starting to speak english right away is not seen as offensive in any way here in Sweden.
    As for language, they generaly do not originate from english. Most european languages belong to the indo-european family, wich in turn are shared up in roman (such as italian, spanish and french), slavic (such as russian) and germanic languages. The germanic languages are then shared up in west and north germanic. Western germanic includes english and german, while north germanic is swedish, danish, norwegian, icelandic and whatever it is they spaek on the Faereo Islands.

    I'm obsessed with those braids! I think you hit the nail on the head all the way through. Very correct observation. The biggest cultural difference is in the larger cities, and a interesting thing is that the Southerners are generally taller than the Northerns and I think it has to do with the cold honestly because the North is colder. South has warmer degrees but wet cold so the cold bites your skin, North has lower temps but dryer air so it is easier to stay warm with the right clothes - in my personal opinion. The far North has midnight sun in the summer where the sun never sets, it just makes a U turn back up, and in the winter there is hardly any daylight in return for a few months. The far North has Northern Lights and dogsledding and if you ever want to experience dogsledding - do it! It's so special and a memory for life! They deal with tourists as a living and will take great care of you!
    Something else I love about Sweden is all the wild edible mushrooms and berries like blueberries that you can pick and eat all you want. Warning though, blueberry stains on your shoes and possibly socks will happen and it doesn't really come out. And Sweden has bears. And lynx. And 1 poisonous species of snake. You will most likely be safe if you, the reader, ever go out to pick berries but be aware. :) Bring someone that knows the area and you'll be fine. You might see some cute wild hedgehogs! And sometimes in the North when driving around you will see moose or reindeer. It's illegal to disturb the reindeer though so don't honk the horn. :) You might stand still for a while and enjoy the sight. :)

    Omg I never knew Esther was your sister. I've been subscribed to her channel. ✨🤗. I haven't seen your videos in a while. TH-cam has this new concept where you have to click the bell twice. Now I know why I wasn't receiving the notifications.

      It's a small TH-cam World haha! Yes Esther is my sister. I haven't been uploading for a little while so that's why you haven't seen me recently. Notifications are best turned on for sure :) Funny how it works now but it's somehow a good idea so you don't miss uploads 😊

    One thing I can say after watching your videos is that you always put God and Church first. I like that. I have 3 young kids, boy and 2 girls....I would love them to be grounded like you two. I am Zimbabwean American and trying to raise my kids right. Good job guys.

      Thank you! I really appreciate you saying that. God comes first! And now more than ever I walk in that confidence. I am sure your kids will grow up grounded as long as you guide them with love a grace, but most importantly be the example 😊

    Everything was accurate in this video. One thing about the food quality, there are restaurants and other places that are not that good, but it is not because of the food quality but rather the place you go to. How they prepare the food, hygiene, the kitchen etc. Also the number one thing about Sweden is that we are in the top of the list for foreign country speaking English. You can get around here easy as almost everyone does speak and understand plain basic English, except for the real old people. Some do and some do not. Coming here for a holiday expect almost no English language barrier.

    • @TabithaLaker
      @TabithaLaker  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually agree with you. I think we just went to places that were average but still nice :) If we stayed longer or visited more often I'm sure we'd see a restaurant food standards from better perspective. & yes it's great to be able to get around in English :)

    • @dennisolof9994
      @dennisolof9994 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the reason for the food quality is actually down to regulation. Even if you sell street food you have to comply with strict guidelines and meet quality standards for hygiene etc. Anyway I would say the best part is the ability to get around on your own with the English language. It does make it much more easy and also interesting as you get a much more inclusive experience. Your friends hair was to just amazing, that was something else.
      Glad you liked Sweden, I have been to the U.K. many times. Not the same as living and working there so I only know the "tourist" type of experience. Thanks for your feedback to my comment. Take care.

    About the language. Lately a lot of countries have adopted English words. But from the beginning it was the opposite, the German Saxons brought a lot of words to England, same thing with the Vikings that brought 100's of words you use every day. Then the Norman French that brought a lot of words too. So English is a mix of countries that have invaded you in the past.

    Your pronunciations of the Swedish words and cities are spot on, and I can only speak for myself, but I get a little bit offended if someone asks me if I can speak English. Just go "Excuse me", continue with your question. 99% will speak back in English. Note though, far from everyone are used to speaking English, even if they are reading and hearing it daily.

    • @TabithaLaker
      @TabithaLaker  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Although a few have made a point to let me know Gothenburg is actually 'Göteborg' despite the official name change by the city council hehe. I usually phrase my request this way "Can we speak English?" - as opposed to asking if someone speaks English. & hopefully it doesn't sound just as bad if I use the right tone :)

    Most languages in Europe are derived from Proto-indoeuropean.
    The germanic languages, which include both english and swedish and others, are not related to latin until we go back to those proto-indoeuropean speakers. They are seperate branches of PIE altogether. But because a large portion of Europe was catholic at one point, latin was widespread as the language of the clergy, so there are some words that seeped into the native languages over time.
    As for french being similar to english; English is a germanic language and french is a romantic language, from latin, so the differences are quite big. But because the normans conquered England in 1066, they brought the french language to the british isles, which in turn influenced the english spoken to some degree and parts of it was adopted. Borrowed.
