Great video! I love your story and it reminds me of my own moving from the US to here in Sweden (Norrköping) to be with my girlfriend. I can definitely see what you mean getting use to the cold/dark days as this is my first winter here 😅

I remember visiting Norway, Oslo I think. I was at a history park and my daughter wanted an ice cream cone. I went to a stand and got into line. Of course, everyone in line was a local and was speaking as such. I thought "Uh-oh...what am I gonna do when it's my time to order?". I got to the front of the line and it was my turn. "Uh...I...would...like...an....ice...cream...cone....please". The girl behind the counter said: "Yeah..waddaya wan on it...rasberries or lingon berries?" In a PERFECT American accent.

Hello, Damian, This is the first time I have ever seen one of your videos. My husband and I are hoping to move to Sweden from the U.S., so maybe that's why it popped up in the suggested videos. Just wanted you to know that you did an excellent job in giving a lot of information, and I think your English is excellent! If you make more videos in English, I'll be sure to watch! Great job!

Damian I hope you see my comment. I spent so much time learning English at school and for some reasons i decided to change my life learning it by myself at home. Its been 7 - 8 months since i began and for me was something new to be able to express my ideas, my thoughts, you know... Now i feel so excited and confident about what i can do And i wanted to share with you that i realized you speaking so clearly that i could even see you speaking in Portuguese(I'm Brazilian). You transmitted me a confidence to keep on my journey The confidence that i'm on the right way cause i understood every single word that you spoken. See ya.

It's true that not all swedes are that reserved, it's actually mostly the unsecure middle class that are like that. I was born in Sweden but nevertheless often chat with strangers, even in the elevator(!). When I was young I even occasionally said thanks to the bus driver on my way to school. ;-)

    Your Eng is good :)
And yeah, we swedish ppl are quiet, I dunno why though....
Personally, I avoid talking to people I do not know because I´m autistic and I easily get misunderstood and because I lack filters, I often cross the line from being socially acceptable to being intrusive and too intensive....and I just don´t like small talk...
But I thing that the swedish ppl are a bit shy and that we don´t wanna intrude or disturb others.
BTW, everytime I´ve been to Gran Canaria, we have met a lot of ppl speaking swe :D
    Ten un buen día

Hi I'm from upstate New York your weather appears to be close to Anchorage Alaska's. I am close to retiring and maybe looking into relocating to Sweden, I don't need a job but would like to stay busy doing something to stay healthy. I think the festivals and April are kind of cool and I like the laid-back people as I have lived a fast-paced life for the last 30 years in the workforce. do you know anything about the fishing or the game preserves as I like nature and I like to play guitar, playing guitar and finding Gabriella Quevedo from Sweden perked my interest in the country. good luck on posting more videos thank you

Yes I found that Swedish are very reserved but once you break the ice so to speak after maybe asking them a question to get the conversation going they can be very pleasant, they are as curious about me as I am of them. After the initial shock of me speaking English to them as they were probably assuming I was Swedish (haha) they were very kind. I always tell people to don't be afraid to talk to strangers, if you talk to them then you won't be strangers anymore, the world would be a better place if more people would do that I think..
