This video is evidence that *Arrangement* > *Mixing* These days, people are too obsessed with mix and production techniques, but a good arrangement beats everything else.
@@DeezeNutsX These days, the approach seems to be about forcing everything to work through aggressive mixing/mastering. We seem to forget that the original Sound Stages were 100+ people, in one room, standing in the right place, playing a beautifully arranged song, live. This book on Mastering I read once sort of laid it out like "If you have a good arrangement/composition, the mixing will be much easier, and if you have a good mix, the mastering will be much easier." Exactly like what you're saying.
Mr. Katsunori, I love all your videos, but your "Track Making" videos are my favorite. You make it look so easy! Thank you for all the hard work. I'm amazed at your skill. You're a true shokunin.
It sounds really like from the 80's, e. piano, slap bass...... Glad that I grew up in the 80's to experience the great synth and all those 80's music. BTW, the original DX7 Mk1 can actually produce amazing string sounds even without layering or unison. 80年代のいい感じの音楽ですね。ユニゾン無しでも、オリジナルDX7はサンプラーやハイブリッドシンセにも負けない綺麗でリアルなストリング音を出せます。Long live the DX7!!
It's a sound developper, he created the soundbank from Motif ES, Korg and lot of Yamaha synthetizer ! This guy is legendary, he created a lot of famous preset on some synthetizer. When I was reading his biography I was not ready for that !
As a sound designer he has created sounds for many Yamaha synthesizers such as the DX, SY, QY, VL, EX, CS, and MOTIF series, as well as sounds for Arturia’s software synthesizers.
Absolutely FANTASTIC Ujiie! It was very cool to see Cubase in another language! I thought the DX STRINGS could have done with a little 'Level Scaling' in the treble, but otherwise that was a GREAT demo. PLEASE make some more with the DX7II/FD soon?
Hey there Ujiie, amazing demo. I own a DX7 IID myself, and I'd really love to know the name of the patches you used. At least, do you remember which cartridge they were featured on? Keep up the amazing work and thank you from Italy
That's a nice piano sound at the start of the video...........the DX 7 has earnt it's place in history whether you like those fm sounds or not....but is using a real DX 7 that much different to running an FM plugin?
I've noticed that when he does solos/leads he likes to bend the pitch wheel down. Which is interesting for me because when ever I do solos/leads I've always pitch-bended up. Maybe it's because I grew up watching a lot of live shows of guitarists like David Gilmour and Mark Knopfler who as guitarists have to bend the strings up when doing solos...and I guess I subconsciously picked it up when playing synths.
I had a Yamaha V-50, which went out after the DX-7, and played with it for 15 years (1 kilo per year return on investment ;) How fun are those sounds right? I don't know what I like better - your playing skills or the fact you're having FUN with sounds! Great inspiration and going back to basics! Arigato :)
Teacher Katsunori Ujiie, I like your music performance very much。From youtube ,I learn many class about synthesizer, Tis time, the Yamaha DX7ii Track making , I like the song very much ,especially the last solo track , the patch sounds great, would you please tell me about the patch much more information . thank you very much !
+Michael Bauers Oh yes; back in the day you had to have multiple synths and a mixer. Later would come some synths/samplers multi-capable with multi outputs. My setup in 91 was DX7, Korg M1 (multi, 4 outputs) E-mu Proteus 1 (multi, 6 outs), Atari 1040STE w. Cubase 2.0, Alesis Midiverb III, Yamaha FX 500 and a crappy 16ch mixer from Samick. We later got a Fostex 4 track with SMPTE-sync, but for that to happen, we had to sacrifice a track....
This man casually throws in an awesome solo to the end and doesn't even record it... I would wonder what awesomeness would they play that would be worthy of recording.
What is the software you're using? Also what type of interface & computer? Thanks for the video.Wish I understood your language…I love those funky sounds on the DX7II.
This video is evidence that *Arrangement* > *Mixing*
These days, people are too obsessed with mix and production techniques, but a good arrangement beats everything else.
If your arrangement is on point, you will have a WAY easier job mixing, half of your work is done with proper recording techniques and arrangement

not just a demo, but a genius at work!
Who is this guy??!? Some kind of old-school 80s-90s legendary composer?
Tommy Sasaki It looks like he's very popular. I bet his career is full of success.
It's a sound developper, he created the soundbank from Motif ES, Korg and lot of Yamaha synthetizer ! This guy is legendary, he created a lot of famous preset on some synthetizer. When I was reading his biography I was not ready for that !

Yep, look for K.Ujiie on arturia presets.
this guy is a legend

Wow. Talk about breathing new life into the DX7. This is funky!
Now I wanna see if I can make something with the FM synth plugins I got.

As much as I love the track, the intro to this video is one of the prettiest things I've heard!
Super good Harmonica solo!
Excellent! Love the music & the DX7!!

And this is why the music to Rondo's Annex in YS Origin is so amazing. Japanese Jazz is just awesome.

love this style, very 70s-80s melody and funkyfeel, enjoy your uploads very much.
Ha, this is really awesome!!! When I was a teenager back then I dreamed of having a DX7 II.
Absolutely FANTASTIC Ujiie! It was very cool to see Cubase in another language! I thought the DX STRINGS could have done with a little 'Level Scaling' in the treble, but otherwise that was a GREAT demo. PLEASE make some more with the DX7II/FD soon?
This is awesome. Love the DX7 so much.
Your hand timing is perfect. Wonderful.
Hey there Ujiie, amazing demo. I own a DX7 IID myself, and I'd really love to know the name of the patches you used. At least, do you remember which cartridge they were featured on? Keep up the amazing work and thank you from Italy

Japanese city pop!!
凄い。。そして心底楽しそう!
I'm a little surprised that Michael McDonald was not immediately summoned by this awesome song for an impromptu vocal.
You are a genius... This is said too much in life, but in your case it is applicable
なるほど、この「エレピ」の音色、聞いたことが有ります。DX7だったんですね。
his enthusiasm is infectious!
Very 80s indeed!
Where can one find the final track produced?
Awesome. Presumably one must do this with multi audio tracks as I don't think synths of this era did multi-timbral mode?
+Michael Bauers Oh yes; back in the day you had to have multiple synths and a mixer. Later would come some synths/samplers multi-capable with multi outputs.
