I've owned my beloved Juno-2 since new when I got it as a birthday present in 1986. It's never let me down. It definitely comes alive with outboard effects, and I've recently fallen in love with it all over again with the addition of a hardware-based editor, complete with sliders for every parameter, along with a bunch of other cool functions, including a random patch generator. Do a search for the MPG-50. It's the best!
I love watching this guy play! He plays all kinds of interesting and nice chords, and looks like he really loves playing and passionate about the tech too.
Ohh, my first synth ever!! I was 13 years old and I sold it later because my bike needed new exhausts! Now more than ever I regret that i didn’t keep it. Thanks for a trip down to memory lane. BTW, I love your reviews. You’re one of the few people out there who can really do a proper review!
musictrackjp Ujiie, you are the BEST! your passion and enthusiasm makes me want to play more and more keyboards (i am a drummer but also play keys). Thanks for all this videos! Would you make one of the original DX7? It sounds very different to the Dx7IID you reviewed.
Hey, thanks! Great reviews as usual! My experience with Alpha Juno is a little strange, since at first I didn't like the sound, coming from the headphones output. Dull and flat, somehow.... Then, listening it from a P.A. in concert, and with a little reverb, it was REALLY great!! So, dear friends, try to understand your beloved machines, before selling them. You could be surprised.... In a good way.
Yes, but not only by YMO. This song also was performed by Eric Klapton in 1986 for his album "August". yandex.ru/video/search?text=eric%20clapton%20behind%20the%20mask&path=wizard&parent-reqid=1486660966264272-1603573992819173931304160-sas1-1501&noreask=1&filmId=4791865410222528994
That synth sounds really good. Waiting for the hoover sound as I am listening! hehhee I like blue video fringe effect on the keys to these videos..........whether it is deliberate or not!
First of all, this is a great demo video. I found myself hating this synth from the start but quickly warming to it based solely on your playing. But also, it does a great job of highlighting something about synths in general: a great player can make even an underwhelming synth sound good (I think that's what is happening here). At the same time, playing a synth great doesn't necessarily highlight it's ability to create amazing sounds. No doubt someone truly adept at creating patches could come up with something much more interesting than the sounds here. And again, the playing is great, but it's all stock sounds which are never the absolute ideal. If anyone is curious as to what I mean, just search for videos from Jexus on this site and I think you'll get my point.
The Juno 2 is an INCREDIBLE synth, extremely huge and super fat. As far from an underwhelming synth as possible, aside from the lack of knob-per-function.
My dear friend from japan,, i have watched almost all your videos. I do have a Juno 60. It has a singel oscillator per voice and chorus for making thicker sounds. Does the Alpha Juno also have a singel oscillator per voice and chorus effect? By the way, this is a low budget synth but it sounds amazing.😃
This actually this synth has 2 oscillators plus you can turn on a sub octave for each of the 6 voices and yes, it does have chorus built in. I've had mine for 3+ years and because it has midi and touch sensitivity I've been using it at my main workstation. Also for everyday playing its much more reliable, stable and stays in tune better because everything is digitally controlled and especially if you play live, this synth is a way better choice over Juno 6 or 60 because its much smaller and SO MUCH LIGHTER and since you can program presets its much quicker for changing sounds. AND YOU CAN PICK ONE UP 300 BUCKS!
You can program everything from the front panel. There are around 36 parameters in a single layer menu which you bring up one at a time to edit. There are also four performance control buttons which allow you to change 2 or more parameters at once (e.g. "brilliance" changes filter cutoff and env amount).
I had one, very powerful engine with very crap programming interface. Use hardware or software programmers. Very warm and unobtrusive output with a lot of character, easy fit in any mix of instruments.
Tazty Kake this was created in the 80's my friend , the new Juno is digital, this is 6 voice analogue and is the second version, there was Also an alpha Juno 1 which had 4 octaves and no velocity keyboard- I own that version

Great video as always.. just bought an MKS-50 based on this video. Such a great sounding synth. Its like a smooth Juno 106.
love teh alpha juno.. sounds so warm!
just got one last week, cant wait to watch the video!
This guy could sell any synth to me
I had that...way back. It's a great keyboard. Just use a great reverb on it.
More classic synthesizers please! I love those videos!
Best of the Junos! ❤️

I didn't know that, but Behind the mask is from 1979, so Yellow Magic Orchestrahas the original version.
Yes, I agree. I heard this song from YMO live at Budokan first too. But then Clapton`s version is really surprised me =)
Think im going to buy one of theese next week,

This synth is exceptionaly good. Depending what style of music you prefer they can be one of your main synths in the studio.
Ujiie - a really nice demo! Thanks for sharing.
"super dial knob" Montage was first , roland second. Your move Korg !!!
Well said!
Yellow magic orchestra rift! 5:13
人気は106だけど、こっちのほうが音はいいね。デザインは今のツマミだらけのシンセより逆にかっこよくみえてきた。隠れた名器
im really suprised at the amount of recognisable realistic instruments this thing can do. obviously it sounds unrealistic, but its recognisable
great sound !!

Would you share the patches..?
really great demos like hallways!!
このシンセサイザーはとても面白いですね。このビデオを作ってくれてありがとうございます。じゃあ、またね。
You could make smashing a stick on a chair sound phenomenal. This is insane
Sounds like a JX-8P and a Juno 60 in one.
Michael Langley well, it has the same architecture as the other Junos and use the same filter chip as the jx8p :D
These are pretty cheap too.
Arnaud B Yeh shame this was a daul dco per voice. It wouls have been a killer . Nonetheless very sleek and cool sounding.
Get 2 Alpha Juno 2's midi them and detune one of them and you have some sort of a fat sounding synth.
Michael Langley Brilliant idea i might invest into mks50s and get rid of my poorly aj 2 😎. That would be madness im just imagining it now.

MIDIで繋げてユニゾンなんかしてました。
やっぱり氏家さんのデモは素晴らしい!
でもアナログシンセってリアルタイムでいじってなんぼだと思うので、機会があればPG-300付きのデモをしていただきたいです!
Can you specify TC processor model you use ? It sounds awesome
Yo Ujiie you forgot to demo the Hoover patch
much better then 106
😂😂😂
Dont forget the alpha envelopes aren't as snappy as 106 . Makes a difference on bass sounds .

did you write the mortal kombat theme tune on this synthesizer?

The filter almost sounds like an oberheim
This Analog Or Digital?!
The entire sound path is analog (osc, filter, amp, chorus and I believe envs and lfo) but under digital control.
Digitally Controlled Oscillators. Hence the term DCO. Also why it Sayed in tune all the time. :)
