I like to call today’s guest the Tekashi 69 of the gun world because has an incredible ability to court attention and get under people skin in the most entertaining way possible. Kevin Brittingham is probably one of the most infamous people in the gun industry. Over the years, Kevin and I have developed a friendship.
I love talking to him because he really doesn’t give a damn what people think. There are a lot of people in the industry who don’t like Kevin and honestly, I can see why they may not like him. As for me, I love Kevin, I think he’s what the industry needs.
He clearly knows his shit and I think he keeps a lot of gun companies honest and as you’ll see in this episode he tells it how it is and I love him for it.

Very true statement! Now I need to finally get on the bandwagon. But as someone who is frugal and I shoot about 2000 rounds per month, my wallet is still saying stay with 5.56! Haha

I was just making a point from a cost perspective. .300 blk, esp good, SP or HP, is a good bit more expensive than 5.56. so if one does choose to use a .300 blk, you can offset the cost of training by using a similarly built 5.56 gun.

In the USA, in most of Europe and AUS and NZ you can buy suppressors (or as they call them Silencers or Mufflers) over the counter and some regions REQUIRE them for hunting...safety ya'know.
The next firearm they design should be called the Murder Hornet.

I retired from the ARMY and was with the 160th SOAR (A). I was deployed to Afghanistan in 2010 and found out about the 300 blkout then and now I'm heavy invested into the 300 blkout. I use it for hunting, home defense, truck gun, and little gun to fight to my big gun. Kevin Brittingham you are my hero.

ever heard of jerry miculek? does a lot of record speed shooting stuff but on his youtube he hit a balloon at 1000 yards with a 9mm revolver with a red dot sight. it is pretty insane to say the least

Let’s talk about the real snake in the bag hearing protection let’s be real if someone breaks into your house in the middle of the night are you going to stop to grab your hearing protection before you grab your gun, oh and let’s not forget those eyes you gotta cover your eyes.Don’t get me wrong I understand the purpose when training And some of the rules of these stuck up Gun ranges. I can almost guarantee 99% of all gun fights happen without hearing protection or sound deadening devices
Hearing for practice is definitely needed so you dont ruin your ears over time.
That’s why you keep your ear protectors with your rifle..takes just a couple seconds to throw on..

Creative Films Also think about it like this in a live fire home defense situation, do we yell out eyes and ears !!! before engaging the target so the family can make sure to put there’s on too or are we the only ones to keep ear and eye protection on the nightstand 😂 😂 😆
@@popedeckard1090 this may sound silly to you but theres a set of Walkers in both my nightstand and my wife's. Its built into our security plan and we train with that in mind. If you take security seriously you would have early alert systems (Home Alarm, Various levels or layers of delay for the intruder) in conjunction with your firearms. If the alarm goes off she knows to grab the earpro, her G19 and her phone and prepare to follow me (while I have my 300 BLK pistol) to my daughters room where we hunker down until the police come. The Walkers allow hearing protection and enhance communication if needed.

This was my first time learning about Kevin Brittingham. Fascinating and very intriguing. His attitude actually sounds common to the majority of the gun world guys with our zero f**k attitudes.
Ill be honest, im probably buying a Honey Badger just because of the different games its been in. Its pretty great marketing if you ask me.

Not literally one, but yes I do carry a 10mm since it's an all rounder. Simplifies my ammo purchases. I like having the fewest amounts of upkeep and liability. Just the thought of having to clean, store and inventory ammo for two dozen different guns is stressful to even think about.

I'm team John when it comes to home defense. Most guys breaking in your house aren't looking for a gun fight. You let that thing start barking and sending down range, bad guy will either run or die. John admitted to some hearing lose after shooting MANY rounds without protection . The 5-20 rounds you'll fire are so unlikely to do any permanent damage. Furthermore, I like the aspect of alerting the neighbors.
I think Kevin's idea is a platoon raiding his house. Because until you open up, they still won't know your location till you shoot. And most break ins are 1 to 3 people.
There is a large difference in hearing damage based on whether you were expecting the sound or not. So think about this, you might be expecting it, but your wife, your child, even your dog are completely caught off guard.
By the way, there is almost never a case of a platoon raiding a house. That's 30-40 people. The likelihood of fratricide, even in highly trained individuals and units, is way too high. For a large house, it's likely going to be a squad. For a house with three or more stories they might send a second squad so they can leave men in each room to ensure nobody gets shot in the back.
And even if you have just a fire team (4 guys) in your house, that knows what they're doing, no silencer is going to save you or conceal your position.
You still know a gun is being fired even with suppressor and subs. Your still looking at 120 decibels or so.

I've got one of the "Q" Honey Badger barrels on my workbench waiting for me at hom. As soon as I get back from AFG it's getting built on an SLR upper/lower/handguard and an SB Tactical SBA3 brace. It probably deserves a Q suppressor at some point too. Great interview Collins, keep doing what you're doing Kevin!

The folks with the most money have a distinct advantage in the family courts! My wife lost custody with zero criminal record and zero domestic issues to a man who's now a registered sex offender and on his fourth wife!! The social worker openly lied on the stand!
Kevin makes some great points. I do have a multical suppressor that so far has been great on .22-.300blk. It's made by GSL, but rebranded to another company. Would a dedicated .22 suppressor be better? Probably. But it was on super clearance for $300 down from $1300 so it'll do for now.

I have a Question for Kevin.....given that for something like the Honey Badger, one of the loudest noises is the sound of the gun cycling, and given the advances in materials, has there been any experimental work on "rubberizing" the action such that this sound is reduced?
Heat-resistant polymers, or some other type of material, even just a thin coating on the parts that produce the most sound.......?

Hybrid supressors are good for bringing down the the bang
I remember playing a game called ArmaIII and seeing the honey badger not knowing it was an actual rifle and thinking it was nice to see a 300 blackout in a video game. Unfortunately I can't afford a real honey badger, but I did inspire me to buy a AR pistol in 300 blackout.
Suppressors are way over priced amd way over regulated as well I think that is why they can charge so much it’s like almost like a black market lol😊

Most people come to price. 300 blk vs. 223/556 is almost double the price and more in some cases. I wish I had the money you guys did, then I would shoot 300 blk. I like the round, but for target and range I'm stuck with 223
I hand load .300 as I couldn't find ammo when it first came out, I would recommend learning how to hand load your own ammo as it cuts your costs by 3/4 in normal times lol. Its also a great hobby on its own and so satisfying 8 ).
@@2dog1 I do handload as well. But bullets are still cheaper for 223 than 300. 308 is still pretty pricey. Being retired and on fixed income it's even getting hard to shoot 45.
Have you looked at m80 pulls? That's what I use for target practice and it's almost as cheap as new 5.56 projectiles.
@@frankjimenez5042 You can also chop down 556 brass and neck size them to 300 blackout to avoid having to buy 300 brass.

I have a AR15 in 7.62x39 in a 10.5 inch barrel. It uses C-Products 30rd mags and it works well.
7.62x39 is not the same as 300 BLK. And those guns are far from proven.

Makes me feel even better that I'm building a 300blk AR Pistol. My barrel is 10" though. I went shopping for a torque wrench the other day and told the guy helping me at the gun shop I was building in 300blk. He tried to trash my decision and asked why instead of 5.56. OK first I believe in having a dedicated silencer for each one of my guns( if possible)... but with the way things are with the ATF extended wait times $200 tax stamp it’s nearly impossible for your average citizen to get a hold of sound deadening devices I like suppressors plus all the bylaws an extra crap you have to go through just to own one is it really worth it?
Just got my sur300 suppressed mcx upper and yes, it was verrrry much worth it. Just my opinion tho.

He lost me at Sold AAC to Remington/Georgie Porgie Soros. Now it (AAC) may whither on the vine. Then my M4-2000 badass can will no longer be lifetime warranty, especially with understanding lifetime from a fresh, inventive guy who reinvented the culture of cans.
I have the Fix, mini fix, HoneyBadgerSD, erector22 and the Thunder Chicken and out of all of them the HBSD is beside my bed right now. I don’t know but was discussed here about the sugar weasel but I’d say save your money and buy they HoneyBadgerSD you won’t let it out of your sight. It’s sexy, light and accurate but most of all Quiet. Keep it up KB and Q. Nice conversation Colion.

I like the 300 aac, and have it for home defense, but I just cannot justify the additional cost and hassle of a silencer. I do not believe in asking the federal government for permission and having to pay them to own something for my comfort, that I cannot pass on to my children without the governments permission. I run Sierra 110 HP in the 300, because it works great in the 300.

Whys this guy against durable designs? They sell oil that “lasts longer” you’d think someone who owned a gun company and likes guns would know durability is huge; it would be like a car not being able to go past 100,000 miles, people buy Toyota’s just because they last long, same with flocks
I just wanna know what "compromises" you make by not having a lot of durability. Generally speaking, anything well-made is also durable.
Miguel G you're definitely right although a delicate piece of fine art can be delicate and still deemed well made. My main issue is with him being against testing guns with 100,000 rounds, saying most guns don't shoot 5,000 rounds; there are cars that have driven millions of miles to test their durability wouldn't you want the same for your guns, I think his only real complain is that type of testing is expensive . He says it's not required if the military doesn't need it, didn't know the corolla had military grade testing
Weight. You can save a noticeable amount of weight if you only need your weapon to guarantee your firearm for 10,000 rounds.
It IS a compromise.
The amount of redundant things you need to engineer into a gun to make it run way past its time, exceed the benefits you get from making a well built gun that doesn't have to chug sand and go through a three week salt spray to beat out the next guy by a few square millimeters of surface rust.
I'll give you a hint: unless your gun is exactly the one that won the military contract after all that testing, down to the last roll pin being manufactured by the same people, your gun's durability is up in the air.

I’m at about 6k rounds in M&P 9c. That’s casual practice in a year. Ruger American 9mm is just about 1100 in 3 months or so. Saying nobody puts 5k rounds in a gun is short sighted. Aside from that the 300 blackout purpose is interesting development.
Also regarding John Poet’s ideas about home engagement and silencers. Sure I supposed loud blaster could be a deterrent plus alert those around you something is wrong. That’s pretty much the best reason. Otherwise a silencer makes a ton of sense.
In regarding to you just shooting a short rifle around kids at home. Your going to do what you need to. Pick you gun of choice that simple really. Again your remarks on that are short sighted. Not everyone can just go to factory rack and grab the most useful gun. Most have to buy the tools they need. I’m just guessing of course you do t totally pay for your gear. You might, even if you do it’s not everyone’s pocket book to have an Arsenal.

Also, Flow thru silencers are not BS. OSS works on a multitude of weapons your cans would break or overgas.
Yep. The CGS Helios is another great multi-caliber can. I felt like I was listening to a freaking 1 1/2 hour infomercial about this guy's company and his products...
OSS does backpressure and signature reduction very well. They exist for guys on the commercial market with guns that either have gas issues suppressed or were never meant to be suppressed, but they're a military targeted can.
Q is selling to the commercial customer that wants sound reduction and light weight. Very different things.
