"Roll On (18-Wheeler)", "If You're Gonna Play in Texas (You Gotta Have a Fiddle in the Band)", "The Closer You Get", "Mountain Music" are probably some of the highlights, but they do have 40+ #1 hits so that's gonna be a long list if you wanted to listen to just the #1s even. :)
We didn't have AC at home growing up. I don't think i knew anyone that had whole house AC. Just window units. Now it's fairly common and not too terribly expensive to add it.
I worked an overnight shift (back in the 80s) and my co-workers insisted on listening to the Alabama catalog as their music choice. I didn't like the tunes at first, but they got my toes tappin' and pretty soon I was on the Alabama bandwagon. We didn't have A/C either - I'd sleep over with friends that did.
And Dixieland delight of course! All of there songs are so great! I went and seen them last Sunday. They are older now but still legends.
Robot Elvis is an awesome addition to the bunker.
If I remember correctly often times especially smaller towns the movie theaters would be the first places with air conditioning. So having that on a sign used to be fairly common as it was a big selling point. Similar to how hotels and motels used to tout having cable television and then "premium channels" like HBO.
Mountain Music is a good Alabama song. Thanks for posting a video that is not a haunt.
Little Debbie Park is the sweetest park man have ever visited! What a yummy place to play!🍫
It's so awesome that they gave you the Elvis head. Now, Jen will have someone to talk to while you're gone!😂🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
elvis head looks creepy though.
That’s exactly what I was thinking !
"Take me to your leader" is a science-fiction cartoon catchphrase, said by an extraterrestrial alien who has just landed on Earth in a spacecraft to the first human they happen to meet. In cartoons, the theme is frequently varied for comic effect, such as a pun on the phrase to suit the setting, or the alien addressing an animal or object they assume is an earthling.
It is believed to have originated in a 1953 cartoon by Alex Graham in The New Yorker magazine. The cartoon depicted two aliens telling a horse "Kindly take us to your President!"
All of Alabama’s music is great.
Debbie is still alive. She just retired from the board of directors of McKee.
Elvis has left the building......😁
Nutty buddies and Swiss rolls are my favorite Debbie cakes
Do you just snarf the Swiss Roll end-to-end, or do you have a compulsion to nibble the chocolate off and then unroll the cake? (I'm not happy unless I unroll them.)
@@maryblaufuss7533 i dip mine in milk then eat them end to end
I am also 43 and remember the lack of AC. I grew up in Connecticut and the humidity was brutal. We all used those huge box fans with the fake wood trim. In the 90s my grandparents installed central air and on really hot days my parents would drive us over there so we could all sit in the AC at least for a few hours. Other than that we'd spend a lot of time jumping in the lake or long island sound to try to stay cool. 😂
Song of the South, or Roll on. Both great songs from Alabama
Warn Jen that there is going to be another man in the. House ❤!!!
He’s gotta buy that Elvis head for Jenn!
Thanks for coming to alabama. Finally someone doing a state that TH-camrs dont cover. I cant really understand why cause they are lots of crazy, fun and unexpected things and people here. I hope to see you doing more of alabama. ❤❤❤
I won’t go to Alabama, because my Xwife is there somewhere. And if you live in Alabama.. I suggest you run 😮
@@allensherrill850 why do you say run?? 😆 🤣 😂
“Song of the South” by Alabama. You won’t regret it💜
Whoa!! That was a great ending with Elvis, he will look great in your bunker!
Finally someone who appreciates A/C as much as me lol
My dad and my uncle LOVE Little Debbie’s cosmic brownies when they were kids. Hope you have a great day Jacob!
Jacob,I so agree when I was growing up i only had swamp coolers and open windows and sometimes going to bed miserable sweating horribly 😢😢😢thank goodness not anymore air-conditioning all the way 🎉🎉😂
I like Christmas in Dixie by Alabama. Also Dixieland Delight.
I'm 55 I was so happy when we got our first air conditioner
I will be 65 in May and I have never had air conditioning. I do have 2 fans and was given a very small window unit that doesn't do much if we put it in. I guess you get used to not having it because the heat doesnt bother my room mate and me.
Okay Jacob Listen to Alabama’s Song of The South, I used to sing it to my daughter when she was a baby. I was pregnant with her she went with us to the Erie County Fair to see them. Unfortunately my daughter Paige passed away on March 1, 2008 of a massive seizure that stopped her heart, at 5 years old. I couldn’t listen to that song for the longest then one day had myself a good cry in the car and was able to listen to it. Yes we did visit the statues in Alabama of Alabama too! We also went to Old Car City in White, Georgia my sister has taken lots of photos there and her Fiancé grew up next door!
I love song of the south !! ❤️❤️
27:40 is one of my favorite Carpetbagger screenshots. Just sittin' there, taking a break, having a snack while sitting on a tasty treat on an absolutely gorgeous day!!!
Great video Jacob, I wish we had Attractions like that here safe travels my friend.
Grew up on a fruit farm in Michigan. We had no air conditioning or central heat. We heated the entire house with a fire in the fireplace that had registers in each room. It was a big farmhouse. I had my own room and we each had a box fan in our rooms. It was 70’s. And yes, it does get extremely hot here in Alabama. I would not have a clue what the last movie would have played there. Maybe Raiders of the Lost Ark lol ?
When you go to Helen, Georgia please go back to Babyland General in Cleveland and take Jenny Penny with you. She will love it there.
I'm not much older than you Jacob and I remember that my father would not buy an air conditioner, microwave, or drip coffee maker.
Not that these items were not available but just that my parents had no interest in buying them ... they used box fans in the windows, cooked all meals on the stovetop or in the oven, and my father woke every morning at 5am to percolate a full pot of coffee that was heated up all day long on the gas stove.
My glory day was moving out of my parents home and getting my own place.
Cool video Jacob. According to Wikipedia, both Milford and Sally's ashes are buried in the rock. So that plaque is his headstone.
You can’t always trust Wikipedia. They let anyone from the public edit articles. It’s good for random rabbit holes though
Little Debbie is still alive and on the board of directors of the Little Debbie company
Great video..lots of interesting stuff. One ofAlabamas songs .I enjoy is called Dixieeland delught..also Mountian music..Enjoy...Much love and respect from Maine🦞
I just had my first Christmas tree cake of the season wohooo
Ahhhh you’re in my neck of the woods now! Gadsden has some haunted buildings there in the city…there’s one business there that has regular ghostly occurrences. There was a segment about it on a tv show once. How exciting that you were here! Alabama’s first #1 song was Tennessee River. They are country/bluegrass.
That’s a fun idea to visit a few haunted buildings in Gadsden, Alabama. Just show us what they look like a a couple of stories. That would be interesting but not too scary. 👍
We did not have ac when I was growing up. I remember hanging my head out the window trying to breathe. It was horrible.
Angels among us 😊
Omg! That Elvis is awesome and a tad creepy. He’s perfect for the new house. 😂
Thank you for sharing this great video. I love the Elvis animatronic.
ooowwweeeee Little Debbie Little Debbie!! 😆 Southern Culture On The Skids - Camel Walk 🎶🐪
Cosmic brownies and strawberry short cake rolls fudge rounds my top 3👍
Air Conditioning!!! ❤ 🧊🐻❄️. Dont forget to wash / change the filters, AC fins.
We had one AC window unit in our living room, so my parents let us sleep there in the summer. We saw it as an adventure.
Oh goodness. My favorite snacks. Can u request they bring back BANANA TWINS ..I miss them terribly. I bought 4 boxes of my all time favorite holiday treat ---- the white chocolate covered CHRISTMAS TREES 🌲
What a lovely gift to be given to you..!!!! Nice friends... I hope you and Jenn are both keeping well. XXX
I'm Australian. We're heading into the warmer months here, and I have a brain condition that doesn't cope with the heat. So air conditioning is going to be my best friend. I have a small portable air-conditioner.
@-officialTheCarpetbagger-funny howthis is, you're not the official Carpetbagger. His tag doesn't have any - or the word official
I want more old man rants. So funny. 😂😂😂 I love leap day. A whole free day.
It is believed to have originated in a 1953 cartoon by Alex Graham in The New Yorker magazine. The cartoon depicted two aliens telling a horse "Kindly take us to your President!" By May 1957, when the Mr. Zero episode of the Adventures of Superman aired, the phrase was already a popular cliché.
Sweet music 😊
I know exactly how you feel The Carpetbagger, I've been working on not consuming any sugary drinks lately, specifically energy drinks since I do not want to get an upset stomach It's been a week now and I'm hoping to continue drinking water as I have been, but eventually my goal is to go completely sober from them too once I move to Alabama in the future with my family. Best of luck to you with cutting sugar out of your diet, it can be tough but I know it can be done
So I've seen a car in a building and a rock in a building. I love your "odds and ends" videos.
A/C still isn't common in homes in Europe. I've been there twice and my hotels didn't have A/C, nor did the public transportation. I was burn in the '60's and I remember we had one A/C. In mom and dad's room. The kids made due with a box fan between two rooms. lol
Dude for real? Alabama is legit. Just Spotify the greatest hits. Incredible
That air condition monument is cool. I love museums to.
AC is a most great invention EVERR. Since I am from Asia, things really hot down here and AC is a compulsory in store and restaurants. I know you really put some effort into the video when you buying the snack at the gas station only for visiting the park 😙😙 Also congratulations for hitting 480k subscribers
Fishing in the dark , truly any of there songs
Fiddle in the Band is my favorite song from Alabama.
Good for you for getting healthy. I started Ozempic in April. I'm diabetic. I lost 60 lbs. 150 lbs today. Goal is 135 lbs.
I really liked the Little Debbie Park. Thanks for visiting there.😊
I love interacting interesting people.
I love the hat and the sideburns and I definitely love little Debbie Snacks 😍 Cakes!
Always a good day when Jacob gets more things for the bunker.
Alabama - “I’m In A Hurry” - listen! 👍
Love Alabama. Great group. Listen to Tennessee River.
Hi Jacob I can not believe you do not know an Alabama song Play me some mountain music is one they are an awesome band. I worked foe Little Debbie for 37 years and drive by the park at least one time a week and yes Little Debbie is real person And very nice to meet!!!
With the country group Alabama you need to listen to ‘there are song Angels among us’, You’ll really appreciate it Jacob but I’m pretty sure you’ve heard of them before you just didn’t realize it but thank you for showing these type of videos because I’m not a Halloween person and because of that, I prefer not to partake in any kind of participation in it, not saying that others don’t appreciate it, but I truly prefer these type of videos that you’ve been showing, so thank you so much for showing these other videos that you have. I appreciate it. Keep up the good work and be safe❤🤠
Alabama music group are larger then life! They have been one of my favorites for a long, long time! Listen to Angel's Among Us! All of there songs are awsome!❤
Apparently, the origin of "Take me to your leader" was from a 1953 cartoon by Alex Graham in the New Yorker magazine, which features two aliens landing on Earth and asking a horse to "Kindly take us to your President!"
Nice research
On the topic of AC It's actually crazy my grandmother when I was a kid living in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Grandparents house had multiple window units in most of the rooms in the summer. Since the house was a brick build it would get really warm. Sometimes we will joke saying I sweat it off most of my weight who needed to go to the gym. Just sit in the house for an hour sweat it off lol
You should of stopped by the Little River Canyon...the waterfall is AWESOME!! Especially after a heavy rain!
OH the mammories...I I mean memories!! lol
Love Little Debbie nutty buddy bars!
Me toooo
I had no clue there was a Little Debbie park. I miss the Apple Flips the most!..... also the brownies with walnuts. My daughter has a Little Debbie Barbie! Thanks for the adventure!
Enjoyed that very much.
Like these videos where you just travel and discover reminds me of your earlier days really enjoy them.
Little Debbies are tasty but way too sweet! TY Jacob!
If you in collagedale ,tn any day but Saturday there is a little debbie store up the road. It is open Sunday thru Friday. Them big cosmic brownies are too much chocolate. The little Dibble store has Christmas tree cakes since July. Now the other store are getting them.
@-officialTheCarpetbagger- hey one day you to go down us 41 from chattanooga,tn to marietta,ga it is the old dixie hwy . it is 90 miles long. you went on the alternate route on your dixie hwy vlog.
"God has all ways been good to---" IT'S ALWAYS NOT ALL WAYS SIGN
Its cool he came to Chattanooga. I live just 10-15 minutes away in soddy daisy.
The phrase is an adaptation of this line in the Alex Graham cartoon published in New Yorker magazine in 1953: “Take me to your President” became “take me to your leader” and appeared in numerous other cartoons, movies, plays, and other popular media.
As someone who gave up sugar I can relate. Most commercial sweet treats are inedible.
I've definitely gotten less tolerant of sugar as I've gotten older. I can still eat and enjoy a lot of commercial candies, treats, and sodas but I can pretty much only have one before I'm completely sick of sugar for most of if not the entire day. I've tried some foreign sweets from various other countries and I'm amazed by how much less sugar most other countries use compared to us. I honestly wish they'd at least *offer* lower-sugar versions of a lot of those treats in the US - no government mandates necessary, you don't have to change the recipes completely, but the option would be nice. And I say lower sugar because a lot of sugarless versions of treats and sodas kinda suck to me. I'm unfortunately very sensitive to artificial sweeteners and they always seem to have an unpleasant aftertaste.
They’re called Christians Tree Cakes and as I was looking them up I see they are $2 a box. No wonder why Little Debbie’s rules the snack cake empire. Who can compete with that?
Hey Jacob, Great video once again! Congratulations on your new Elvis animatronic!!!🎉🎉🎉I also have to stop the sweets.
The Elvis needs to go by the front door of your house so when people walk in he can flirt with them!! Lmao!!
40 Hour Week, Angels Among Us, are just 2 of the songs you should listen to from Alabama
"Sweet home alabama" will always be my favs
OMG! I wish I had known you were in my hometown of Gadsden! Me and my 7 year old love you!
Thank you for doing a video everyday
Good Evening Jacob 🙋🏽
Great video as always Jacob. Ok the group Alabama is the best country music group ever, they are legends. They put on one heck of show, i saw them 3 or 4 times at the kansas state fair the saw them in wichita a couple times. Some of the biĝ hits were... Roll on, Mountain Music, Angel Among us. But just google them and pull their music up and you will love it. I was born in the 60s the house i grew up in had AC living in kansas in summer i am so thankful for that ac. But my mom would not allow that ac to be turned on til it got so hot, she believe in opening the windows BUT she did not like fans blowing so we had no fans. I love her to bits but oh was there some hot days in my youth lol. Then my elementary school we had ac excep for the old white blding that literally was an old school house with black chalk boards and wood floors, but we had big windows we were able to open to get the breeze. Yes i love little Debbie's, my grandmother always had some because she knew i like them and i was her favorite Little Debbie. Oh and please have some do Elvis's hair too.
BTW. Looking much healthier. I gotta follow your lead
Awesome video Jacob! HUzzah for AIR CONDITIONING!
"Christmas in Dixie" is by Alabama. Gets a lot of air time here at Christmas. 👍
They are called Christmas Tree Cakes. Those I can still eat and enjoy, but I agree about all the other snacks you tried.
Me, every time I watch one of Jacob's videos: "Hey... you... all... Carpetbagger here coming to you live..." if you ever change it I don't know what I will do lol
At 15:00, if you read the sign at the robots feet backwards, it says Dustin Dana April.
Next time you come to the area let’s meet up at the Alabama Museum! It’s not far from the statues. Would also love to see if we could get in to Sequoyah caverns! They have been closed to the public for 10 years but maybe someone would allow you in to document an abandoned cave?!??? Great video! Thanks for hanging out with us! Enjoy Elvis 😎
I live in Gasden! Was shocked to see you in my town. If I had known I would of LOVED to have met you! Wish you had stopped off at the falls! And you need to try Milo's!
E L V I R A - Best Alabama song. Ever.
Love the video! Come on down to the Coastal Carolina Fair here near Summerville, SC!!🙂
Happy Birthday Jacob ❣️🎉✌️💖😻 What a great early birthday present from Your wonderful friends 🙌🌟😺 Thank You, Thank You very much 🙏💝😹
Alabama song - the closer you get ,they sing country was extremely popular in the 80s, they were the first concert I went while in high school. ❤️
I’m 52. I grew up in Georgia and I didn’t have air conditioning until I was 32.
Lotta memories lotta sugar!
